Clever puzzles! The mechanics are intuitive and layer on top of each other well
This is a good idling game! I really liked the general mood and vibes while playing - everything from the sound/music to the intro text haha.
The audio control gimmick is a lot of fun. I also liked the pig avatar!!! When pigs fly indeed ;)
You were right when you said hard! But it's very rewarding too. And good use of the theme - it worked really well, having a platformer where the goal is to go down, rather than up or to the side.
Fun mining game! I really like how you maintain momentum as you fall, makes it fun to fall down :)
Your writing is nice. I also liked the combat system! Good job :)
Nice one touch controls! The slowdown before each obstacle is helpful:)
The controls took a little bit to get used to, but once I came to really appreciate how the ship handled! It was fun having to both aim my ship to hit the enemies and consider my momentum so I don't crash. This is a fun one!
The art for the submarine is fantastic :) going around catching fish was fun!
Your music is a lot of fun! Weirdly somber and spooky, but enjoyable. Fun and quick game!
Fun game! Some nice feel when I place towers or win a level. Great job!
I made sure to scam the baby everytime, even if he did remember people's birthdays. Fun game! Each minigame was enjoyable, and it had some pretty good humor. Nice work!
Simple, but fun game. Could see myself sitting and playing for long stretches of time.
Very funny game :)
Penguins might not be able to fly, but this guy sure is pretty durable! Lots of fun, and the art is great!
This is like a better QWOP, at least from my perspective. The swimming mechanics are weird but fun, and make sense after a little bit of trying, and being able to mess up but not restart helps eliminate any frustration. The music and SFX were also really good. I did notice one bug - when I click out of the tab, the music continues to play but stutters. I'll probably come back to play this one more later! Great job :)
@backurio I've been hearing that WebGL has been causing a lot of the participants problems this year, that's unfortunate It's a real battle to get past 50m for me - I'll let you know when I get to the bottom :P
I really liked the sound! The music and voice acting were great :)
God that music is fantastic. I really enjoyed this one - the changing face got me hooked to see what look the blob fish would have next. Great work!
@hestrateja I think it's a mix of that and the instrumentation. Keep it up!
I really liked this one. Reminded me of a few of my favorite flash games as a kid.
Fun card game! It was an interesting mechanic, it felt very much like a combo-oriented game. It would be fun to flesh it out with more cards.
Surprisingly hard, but a lot of fun! Great job :)
The art and music are great, and I really liked the controls. Lot of fun! Seeing the anglerfish come up filled me with dread - but then seeing that he was the long lost friend made me laugh out loud! Great job all :)
The sound and lighting really set the mood :) sometimes the hook would flop around a bit when I got stuck in a small cranny - but I really enjoyed having to angle it right to catch the correct object and drop the wrong one. Great job!
The platforming in this is really fun! The jetpack is great in my opinion, I like that it can be used to correct your jumps just a little bit, but isn't too strong. I'd be excited to see more levels!
@joelchrono12 you should ask in the discord! I think you can make small changes like that, but this is my first jam so I'm not 100% certain.
@joelchrono12 thank you!!
Fun game! the rain slowing you down was a little scary even :O
Simple but fun game! I enjoyed the music, keep it up!
Fun game! Reminds me a bit of Downwell. I could see myself playing this for a while.
Fun game! The mood and pixel art are really good. I liked that falling off the edge would send you down a level of the game too - that was a clever way to integrate with the theme more completely.
Some nice puzzles! I got stuck on lvl 5, but I'll be coming back to it later. Also valuable to learn about this other puzzlescript fork.
The only thing I'd suggest is implementing a way to use the mouse to backtrack. There were a few times where I felt I was close to the solution, but messed up early. If I had been able to mouse a root backwards, and not have to restart the level, that would have been convenient.
The core mechanic is really solid though. I'd play through a full-length game of these levels.
I unfortunately did not collect the golden berries in time :( The pixel art was really good - particularly the UI/HUD. Great job!
Gross, but necessary.
I liked these puzzle mechanics! The momentum from moving blocks reminds me of Celeste, and was a lot of fun. The sound effects and general sound design is also really good. Great work! (also small note, but glad to see my favorite color represented so well :P)
Really liked this one! The music and art were great - and the mechanics were intuitive. I saw that you made the explicit decision to go no shooting only platforming, which I think was the right move for this kind of game. Only critique is that it was not intuitive how to get to the second level once I got the key - otherwise, I liked how easy it was to pickup and learn the mechanics without being told.
Really inspiring game - gave me lots of ideas!
I know it's just a prototype but I did try speedrunning it :) My PB is 2.751, and since I'm the first poster, I'm assuming it's also WR ;)wr_ld48_offlical.PNG
great use of the theme! I like the concept a lot :)
I really enjoyed the simulation :) dropped me right in, but I quickly got the hang of it. Good job!
Nice puzzles! The polish on this game is really impressive, the music and graphics both fit each other and the theme very well. Someone said this would work well as a mobile puzzler and I really agree!
Fun game! Great pixel art
@hestrateja heyo, good catch. That's a bug that I was going to turn into a feature, but never got around to developing a level around it. I thought I got rid of all instances that that could happen.
@noel-widmer very valid critique - puzzlescript limits you to 5x5 pixels, and my artistic decision to further limit myself to a 8 color palette didn't help. In the future I'll probably spend more time thinking about clarity of game objects.
@eboatwright it is kind of like bitsy! In the same way bitsy is designed mostly for small topdown narrative games, puzzlescript is designed for sokoban-style puzzle games. I highly recommend it!
@secret-magic-404 Your comment really made me happy, thank you! Seeing the feedback in the comments gave me some ideas on how to refine and add to the game, so maybe there will be a more fleshed out Into the Abyss 2! :)
Also, to anyone who left or leaves a comment that I don't respond to, thanks so much for the feedback! I've read every comment, and it's all been both so very encouraging and so very helpful! Thank you again :)
@felixmreeve Good point on the pacing. Given more time, and if it wasn't Compo, I would have maybe gotten some playtesters in to test my puzzles. These puzzles were constantly in the back of my mind for about for 48 hrs, so I didn't realize how hard they may be! It seems like Level 9 in particular is kind of a spike in difficulty for a lot of people, which surprised me. Thanks for the feedback! Very insightful.
@lamamour That's a very generous comparison! Thank you :)
@minotalen Thanks for your feedback! You're probably right about the claustrophobia. I actually remember, for Level 6 especially, I was really trying to cut down the size of the level and number of walkable tiles to the bare minimum - a little breathing room might have been nice. I've also joined the discord, thanks so much!
And you should be proud of your project! I really meant what I said :)
The fun factor in this one is really high! My only critique is the camera is a bit close and sometimes spins a bit fast for my taste - otherwise a solid game. The voice acting was very funny, and I liked the music!
I really liked the controls, and the graphics. This is one of those games that you could sit and play for a long time.
Fantastic sound design! Lots of fun, and great use of the theme!
This would be a fun party game, but even with the AI I had fun! I was able to win a few rounds ;) good job!
I've played this sort of game plenty of times on my own, but adding specific levels and the UI on top really does add a lot to it. Nice work!
The art and music are great! I love the cat :) but also the stuff like the pufferfish exploding are fantastic! Especially when you get a chain reaction going. Really well put together, fun arcade game :)
That was a lot of fun. Kept me surprised, and found ways to keep things interesting by changing the location and the gameplay. The adventurers and their dialogue were really cute!
The writing is really good! I really liked your puzzles. I'm a big fan of horror, and more surreal things. It's really crazy how much this text adventure was right up my ally. Great work!
I really liked the zoomed out perspective of this game. The jumping was really satisfying, being able to leap over multiple obstacles was a lot of fun.
I liked the slow down mechanic- and the fact that the music slowed down too was cool!
I like the concept! The spinning of the platforms was fun and interesting. I could see this being expanded with several more songs!
This is a fun game. I've seen the paint the platforms mechanic before, but I've never been able to shoot the paint, which was a lot of fun. One suggestion I have is to keep the paint around after death, and/or maybe limiting the amount I can shoot paint. Because I could fire paint infinitely, and because it would all go away when I died, I ended up going really slow and firing all around me. It was still a lot of fun even going slow though! Great work.
Plantasia was a good choice for the soundtrack :P One of my favorite albums and well suited for the game. This is one of the more interesting games I've played in the jam. The jam's theme works well to give the player a goal without telling us anything. I felt like the game as a whole comes together (with the soundtrack) really well as an art piece, with something to say. Going back after I had collected each note and the treasure and looking at my roots and the decisions I had made was really nice :) I tried to collect all the seeds and flowers too, but sadly I softlocked myself behind my own root system :( Really cannot emphasize how much I enjoyed this one!
P.S. I also made my entry in puzzlescript. I thought there was a hard limit on sprite size at 5x5. Now I know that is not the case! haha
The art direction is really nice! I like the retro feel.
I really like the art direction in this one! The color palette and pixel aesthetic are right up my alley, and the lights dimming is really spooky - it looks like they are moving further away, which actually gave me a bit of a scare! Really cool :)
