Cool. I am now disoriented and lost!

oeschmid 2021-04-26 19:20

I really like the art direction in this one! The color palette and pixel aesthetic are right up my alley, and the lights dimming is really spooky - it looks like they are moving further away, which actually gave me a bit of a scare! Really cool :)

vitor-figueredo 2021-04-26 19:24

It reminded me of anti-chamber, it's a bit disorienting but I thought the graphics were great and the music fit the purpose. I'd only make the respawn a bit quicker as it slows down your progress.

john-gabriel 2021-04-26 19:27

I think it's safe to say I didn't really get this one. The graphics were stunning, but it came at a cost of being able to see exactly what I was supposed to do...

prodigalson 2021-04-27 04:39

Challenging but also has this very unique style to it. At first I didn't realize you are essentially on a time to find the right path in this maze which makes sense given the goal is to not get lost in the darkness but I think it could've been made a little more clear. Then again this might be a limitation of the visual styles chosen for the game. I wish there some sort of a "pay close attention and I will give you a tiny hint" as to whether you are going on the right path or not because otherwise it is just a memory game filled with loads of trial and error which I'm not a big fan of. Something like my steps echo or sound different, and/or the lights flicker briefly when I first come into view (so if I missed the flickering welp them is the game). Maybe there is something like that and I just missed it :P

wuppos 2021-04-27 10:49

I really liked the atmosphere! The colorscheme, the pixel resolution, and the sound/music all blended perfectly. Also the room becoming darker was a great way to communicate to the player that they are running out of time, while also adding tension at the same time. At first I was very confused about what was happening though. I had no clue why I died, or what I was supposed to do. After a few tries I figured out there were multiple paths (I did not see the first branching path to the right for a while), so I understood it was a maze of sorts. It took me a really long time to figure out that I am also on a timer, and that those glowing orbs replenish my time. Perhaps it would have been good to space the first orbs further apart a bit more, so that it is more clear that the room becomes brighter when you pick them up. I must confess that I did not reach the end of the maze yet, but it was a really great experience. Thanks for making this! ^_^

threeli 2021-04-27 19:23

Brilliant. I loved figuring out what was going on, and then trying and failing a ton to find my way. Hilariously I didn't realize you could use the mouse to look around at first, so basically I played two different games, one that made sense and one where you had to no-look strafe down halls! There is so much potential with this project, I really hope you develop it further. (Also, the audio is exceptional... the mood in general is awesome).

negabyte 2021-04-27 22:28

Really nice presentation. The art style and the audio perfectly harmonise to create an atmosphere. It really reminds me of Return of the Obra Dinn.

wheffle 2021-04-27 22:35

The style is awesome, the ambient is awesome... I was just confused about how to play. I think I *kinda* started understanding that you needed to keep getting glowing orbs and take side passages, but I'm still not exactly sure what the heck was going on. The hallway ends that dropped you down somewhere I think were the most confusing parts. But it was a super unique and cool experience. Like I said, the style is amazing, and I honestly prefer being dropped into a game with no instructions and intuiting my way through it. If you can get that to work, that's the ideal.

pichuscute0 2021-04-27 23:51

A little bit confused on the goal of this one, I won't lie. It seems you fall at the ends of hallways, but as the art style (which is fantastic!) makes it difficult to tell if you're at the end or not, you can't really stop until it's too late. I don't know if there's more to the game if I do better or not, but I did get to a location that showed the title screen, which looked like the end. Considering how good this looks and sounds, I do kind of wish a bit more was going on.

In any case, great work on what was here. I didn't run into any issues or anything, either.

ezgoodnight 2021-04-28 01:30

I'm very confused about the gameplay on this one. It's a shame because it's one of the most gorgeous games I've played today. Sound is amazing too. I think if you had some playtesting and revision time you could have a real masterwork on your hands. Thank you for making such an interesting Jam game.

haztro 2021-04-28 02:17

Wow, this is definitely the atmospheric/moody game I've played so far. I really like the concept of having to race to solve the maze before you go blind - I didn't get very far haha. I think I'd be more inclined to keep trying if the respawn time was slightly shorter. The ambient music was awesome. Great submission - I really enjoyed it :)

nazorus 2021-04-28 10:40

I love it, the mood is just so strong. I'm a sucker for hazy cryptic games like that, with a striking aesthetic and color palette, and nebulous audio atmosphere. It made me want to keep trying and reach the end, which I finally did. I get the feeling that there is a message behind this game, perhaps the pursuit of short-lived spurs of joy throughout life, until you find your place of happiness, that you can enjoy while it lasts?

And yes, I did enjoy it while it lasted.

This might be my favourite entry so far, big kudos to you.

cogcomp 2021-04-28 18:52

Beautiful visuals but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. After a while I just relaxed and let the beautiful graphics flow by

samazki 2021-04-28 19:08

It's very pretty and haunting but I'm just not good enough to keep the lights on. The respawn time is also very frustrating. Overall very unique, great work.

johanhelsing 2021-04-28 19:55

This is super moody and and weird in a good way! I also really like the retro look and the audio fits really well.

It felt a little bit too hard, though? I was really curious as to what was down there, and how it would progress, but I simply couldn't do it (I tried for 10-15 minutes).

I also generally don't like the memorize and retry kind of setup, maybe it would have worked to make the spheres a bit randomly placed and just had the game be easier. That way it would be disorienting on every playthrough.

But as I said the mood is sooo strong in this one, and the graphics and audio are really well done :) Good job!

extar 2021-04-28 20:05

Really cool art style and sound design in this, it's got a fantastic mood to it, but I really struggled to understand what I was supposed to be doing. I tried running a few different routes but didn't seem to be getting anywhere. I can see how some more hints or hand-holding for the player would spoil the minimalist aesthetic you were going for, but it's kind of frustrating to play at the moment when you don't understand what you're supposed to do. :)

solah 2021-04-29 06:40

The atmosphere of your game is crazy, the graphics and sound design are awesome. I have to admit I did not see the deepest depths because I got lost ^^"

sacredbacon 2021-04-29 20:29

Beautiful game, music lends itself nicely to the visual style. Awesome idea, great execution.

squidly 2021-04-30 02:57

Gorgeous game with a great sense of audio, but I have literally no idea what's going. Still VERY impressive.

blue-pin-studio 2021-04-30 08:24

This game looks absolutely incredible! The gameplay was a bit confusing and i ended up just falling a dozen times, but somehow i enjoyed it :D

j0ye 2021-04-30 10:24

My name is Joye and i am a chromaholic. It all started with the 48 ldjam and i have been addicted ever since.

This is clearly a game that wants to highlight the sound and art the design and most of the time i like these more then any other entry. The game is pleasant to look at and the sound makes it very atmospheric. What the gameplay loop lacks in comfort features and structure is replaced (and even enhanced) by the graphics and the atmosphere. You really feel like you are there. Where ever there is.

brian-mayberry 2021-04-30 14:17

Hauntingly beautiful, and HARD. I loved the sound and music, the mood and graphics are just so cool. The game itself is just a bit too hard, I understood the concept of slowing your fading light after a few runs, but it was just a bit too fast for me to be able to finish the game.

lectvs 2021-04-30 20:21

Insane visual quality, and the audio was great if not a tiny bit annoying after restarting so many times. Main gripe with this game is that it's mostly trial and error, and you have to keep playing the same sections over and over again to make any progress. I had fun while playing it, though, good job!

feralpoodles 2021-05-01 06:54

Really gorgeous graphics, loved the super trippy/cryptic vibe!! I do wish that maybe the floor/walls were a little more visible, but I get it if that's not what you were going for. Took me a couple tries to really figure out what I was doing (first I thought it was a maze, then I realized it was time based, THEN i realized the lights reset the timer, lol), but it's a super cool concept, nice job!! :)

tanis 2021-05-01 16:45

This feels like a trip! I wonder how you come up with the idea :)

tezza48 2021-05-01 16:47

It Looks and sounds fantastic, sadly i'm not really sure what's going on and why i keep getting a dead end of falling immediately.

ninsky 2021-05-01 17:08

Absolutely gorgeous in terms of mood and art! I think that having to figure out what you're trying to do ties into this very well. Didn't finish yet, but I'm going to keep trying! :)

trexxak 2021-05-01 22:11

Gotta be honest, I have no clue how far I made it, but I did fall a lot, so I guess I was in deep?

As everyone else said: Amazing aesthetics! It's worth playing it for that alone!

maniulo 2021-05-01 22:29

Couldn't play unfortunately, I think it's built on an older version of Unity that has incompatibilities with some network software. Looks cool though, please let me know if you rebuild it on newer Unity by any chance.

garys 2021-05-03 01:19

Excellent entry. I was sucked in for a good while, trying to find a pathway through. I failed, in the end... but I loved the sense I got from the experience - it was genuinely unnerving to have the orbs get dimmer when I'd gone the wrong way... after falling. I think that was a great design choice - the deed was done and I would have to start again, but making me walk toward ever dimming orbs a few times to do it, felt like my life force and/or my _hope_ ebbing away. Brutal.

cameron-paxton 2021-05-03 01:22

The visuals are very unique and beautiful. However the gameplay wasn't engaging enough to try to figure out what I was supposed to be trying to accomplish. Once I read through some of the comments here, it made more sense, but some sort of instruction like "collect the orbs before the darkness swallows you" or something would've helped with engagement at the beginning.

That said, the presentation is super unique and the sound design added to the atmosphere nicely!

whysguy52 2021-05-03 02:32

Nice! took me a minute to figure out the game play but I got it eventually. Can't see the floor and sometimes got stuck in a loop where, no matter what, I immediately went into a pit and couldn't reach the next orb but pretty cool and visually awesome!

rubixnoob13 2021-05-03 05:11

I agree with essentially everything Cameron Paxton said above me. Game looks amazing, had NO idea what I was supposed to be doing. Even after reading some comments, it seemed like no matter what I was doing, I'd eventually just fall through the floor and hear what I assume is the "death" noise, then get sent back to the start after a kinda long respawn time. Still, it's very beautiful, just not so sure what the heck I'm trying to do lol

bongard22 2021-05-05 16:19

Looks pretty cool, and an interesting idea, but definitely hard to figure out. Here's the link to the vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1004493783?t=1h20m33s

sentmoraap 2021-05-09 14:56

I did not rate this game because I don't know what I am supposed to do, expect go to the next light as fast as possible. Quickly I can't find where is the next one which isn't a trap. However it has good esthetics and a good music.
