It Shakes the World Apart by lectvs 2017-04-25T18:37:43Z
@Avon Thanks for the feedback! I've pushed out a new patch that should fix the quality and audio problems.

@Avon Thanks for the feedback! I've pushed out a new patch that should fix the quality and audio problems.
Nice, chill game! I like how the tiles change shape; it makes the world feel much more dynamic.
Drama: 10/10 Action: 8/10 Romance: 10/10 Camera Zoom: 11/10 Phil Fish Nudes: 0/10, button is broken Overall a provocative critique of the world we live in. Truly a Ludum Dare masterpiece.
I finally beat it! 870 deaths total. **A few criticisms**: 1. A lot of the hitboxes were off. I died several hundred times purely because an obstacle "hit me" even though it didn't look like it was. 2. The wall jumping mechanics were kinda frustrating, and it really showed during two specific levels where you had to time them almost perfectly in order to succeed. I struggled a lot on those levels because I couldn't get the player to walljump when I told it to. 3. The art would look a lot better if it was all at the same pixel scale. Other than that, though, it was pretty well designed! Great entry!
It's a real period piece. 948.png
I actually liked the control scheme. It took me a long while to get used to it, but once I got good at it it felt really nice. Graphically, the game was crisp and smooth as well. Great job!
Really cool entry! Love the minigame-centric gameplay, and the art style and music fit well with each other.
Neat RPG-maker game! The art was great, and I like how many of the cutscenes auto-played some of the attacks as well. Solid entry!
Neat concept! Pretty challenging but fun once I got the hang of the controls. Love the art style and the music!
Simple game executed well with lots of polish and zero bugs (during my playthrough anyways). Everything you want to see from a jam game!
Neat incremental type game! The controls felt clean and smooth. One suggestion is to add something to the background to make it easier to visualize how the player is moving relative to the world.
Graphics were spot-on. Gameplay felt smooth, although I'm not sure how to lose? The guards didn't seem to do much aside from gasp when they saw me. Overall a solid entry!
Cool chess-like game! The controls were a bit difficult to understand at first (very little visual feedback) but it was fun nonetheless. I liked the dice rolling!
The controls felt floaty and imprecise, but I liked the concept! Was fun to play even by myself :)
Cool game! I don't have anyone to play with, but I found it actually manageable with just myself working both controls. Got a similar feel to the game Overcooked. Great job for your first entry!
Fun game! Some of the "upgrades" were a bit more annoying than challenging, but it's a unique concept. Good work!
Really liked the graphics and the gameplay felt smooth as well! I think the aiming mechanic was interesting, but would have preferred being able to move the cursor wherever I want on the screen. Neat entry!
I also had the same issues with keyboard input/canvas focus in my entry. This fixed it for me, maybe it'll help you too: https://github.com/itchio/itch.io/issues/388#issuecomment-371971451
Fun, crisp mechanics! Graphics were great too. Good stuff all around :)
Really cool concept! The interactions between the different animals lead to some creative solutions.
Great job for your first project!
Game was a tiny bit confusing due to having so many mechanisms in play, but I like the concept of it! Great job for your first jam.
As others mentioned, the trial-and-error was a bit frustrating. I thought the controls were nice and I liked the perspective, though!
This game is just as fun to play as it looks! Aesthetics are on-point in this game, and the music/sfx complemented the gameplay nicely. My only criticism is the "essence" or experience you get from enemies kinda looked like projectiles, and it took me a little bit to realize they weren't hurting me. Great seeing an upgrade system that adds new mechanics to the game aside from just "damage increase". All in all a well-made jam entry!
Wow, this was a really nice half-idle half-not game. Aesthetics were top-notch, and by the end of the game I ended up with a pretty cool-looking plant! Definitely one of my top jam entries this time around.
The mood of this game is incredible. The atmospheric sounds combined with a simple, repetitive gameplay loop made it feel like a genuine horror game. I thought something was going to jump out at me if I took too long or chopped down that particular tree in the middle. :o
The game lacks some features and content, but it's understandable given how late you pivoted away from your previous idea. One solid criticism I have is that the timed dialog made the ending especially slow. With no way to click through the dialog or speed it up, I got impatient and exited out early (I've read The Egg before so I'm pretty sure I know how it goes, but please tell me if you changed it!)
Solid entry, atmosphere was great. Would love to see this expanded with more content!
Well-done game! We had similar concepts of a diminishing light source :) Really enjoyed the platforming (especially the branching paths) and the hand-drawn style graphics were neat! A solid entry.
Neat little text game. Congrats on publishing your first game!
A fun, simple game with all the TD essentials. UI could be a little confusing to those who have not played many TD games, but to those who know the fundamentals it's probably a breath of relief to not be flooded with information. Solid entry!
Really like the draw-a-path movement setup! As others pointed out, the combat is a little confusing, but overall a cool entry.
Pretty neat game once I realized you could re-use objects. As others pointed out, checkpoints would be nice. Cool entry!
Cool entry, and interesting gameplay! I love the art style too.
Really liked the artwork in this one! I think the window size is too small on itch.io. The edges of the game are cut off.
Interesting concept. I liked some of the graphics effects, like the cape flowing behind the player. Somehow I glitched the robot into one of the boxes, and thought I was unstoppable until the game ran out of memory:
oom.png
Could use some shadows on the 3D models but I liked the art style!
Neat concept. Congrats on completing your first game jam!
Looks interesting, but I can't seem to get the game to run. It's stuck on the main menu with the music playing.
RIP John Conway, he was a mathematics legend. :(
Interesting concept! Don't see many terminal-based games here. I found that some of the graphics get shifted around at different browser zoom levels.
Wow, this is a great entry! I love how each task requires different input to complete, and managing all your resources is challenging but fun. Art and sound were both nice and suited the game well. Overall great job!
Neat concept! I like the art style in this one, hearkens back to the good ol' days of flash. Fun entry!
Creative use of physics makes quite a challenge! I found that going slow helps avoid most damage. Managed to get myself stuck in this position and stopped being able to move at all. 10/10
stuck.png
Interesting concept! As others have pointed out, gets pretty challenging! Movement felt a little fast and imprecise to me, but otherwise a fun game!
Thanks for the comments everyone! I put out a small patch that should hopefully fix the crashing issues...
@life-lich Hey, thanks for the reminder! Totally forgot to go back and add the submission link after I published. I appreciate that you took the time to find the game here after coming from itch.io :)
@wongkongphooey Hey, glad you liked the art! The game engine I'm using for this, I wrote from scratch over the past year-ish. Uses pixi.js to render graphics. The engine is currently in a pretty bad, half-complete, and undocumented state, but if you want to take a look, the full source is included with my game's source code on itch.io! (the engine code is in the folder called "lectvs")
Really liked the art in this one, and the gameplay felt smooth too! Was kind of unclear when I could fire my laser (sometimes I pressed space and nothing happened despite having charge). As niterich said, the final boss could have more health. :) Great entry!
Cool concept, the gameplay felt pretty smooth and the music wasn't bad :) Some of the note combinations (like up+down) were very awkward to hit at the same time. And is it just me, or do you not actually have to hold down the key on sustained notes? Overall a pretty nice entry!
Cool idea, great execution! Graphics and sound complement the gameplay well.
Really liked the art style on this one, and an interesting concept too!
Cool entry. Complexity is hard to manage in these game jams :)
Cool twist on a common trope! The controls seem a bit fast and imprecise, but I don't have anyone to play with so I'm not sure how it would really turn out.
Really neat concept. You don't see multiplayer games in LD that often. One cheese I've found is to open up multiple tabs to get more wood faster :) Would love to see this reach a bunch of concurrent players at once.
**Updated review**: I have now seen this reach a bunch of concurrent players at once, and it's just as glorious as I imagined. Really cool to see people taking on specialized roles to keep the fire alive most efficiently!
I like how you move much faster than your soul, meaning the faster and more erratically you move, the more de-synced you get from your soul and the harder it is to control. Cool entry!
Cool concept, great execution! Art and music aren't bad either :) I think this has a lot of potential should you choose to extend it post-jam.
Now that you've opened the game, you have no choice. You must kill it. Think you can escape by closing your browser window? You would be erasing this poor creature's existence - the equivalent of murder. Want to restart your computer? That's not gonna fly. Every action you take will result in your new friend's death. All the while, the little bug is hitting its head on your hammer, practically begging you to kill it. Teasing you. Taunting you. It's torment, but you can't. Murder is never right. As agonizing as it is to watch him fly back and forth, over and over, you can't bring yourself to drop the hammer. This tab will remain open in your browser for all eternity, lest you paint your hands red with the suffering of an innocent creature.
This game is a trap. The only way you can remain clean is to not start the game to begin with. Don't make the same mistake I did. Don't play this game.
...10/10
As others have suggested, some instructions would be nice, but a neat concept! I liked the animations as you move around the room idly. Somehow reached NaN% on day 1:
nan.png
The CRT shader made the fancy text a little harder to read, but otherwise looked great and fit the style of the game perfectly. Neat concept and executed well!
Looks like we had similar ideas about keeping light levels up :) Thought the platforming controls were clean, and I had fun with the game!
This game looks like it's pretty fun in VR! Wish I still had my headset. The art style fits the game's mood perfectly.
Fun little game with simple but nice-looking graphics. I will say that hard platformers and RNG controls don't particularly mix well :) but I managed to beat it! I think decreasing the time from death to respawn would be an improvement. Nice entry!
Cool concept! I really liked the grid-based selection for where to aim the ball. It was a bit hard at times to gauge the depth of the ball for timing, but overall a fun game.
The game took a while to load for me, but the game was pretty fun! Very interesting art style, but I think it looks nice.
Neat entry! I've played a lot of "dodge the obstacle" games, but I like how in this game you're encouraged to move around and not stay in the same place even if it's safe. One suggestion I have is to associate the controls with the direction of movement (i.e. if you used up/down arrows to correspond to moving the beat up/down). Overall a nice, simple, fun game!
A nice entry with a lot of character! Enemies could be a bit more varied, but I like the different kinds of towers.
Wow, this game is freaking amazing. Beautiful graphics, great music, smooth gameplay, randomly-generated levels(?)... literally the only thing missing in this game is a death animation/transition to replay. Big Touhou vibes :) Hands-down my favorite entry so far. I hope you guys participate in future LDs because I want to play more of your games!
Interesting idea! I got stuck after a couple levels (the top guy wouldn't move) but had fun regardless! Great compo entry
Listened to 5 minutes of tutorial then immediately hit a random button and self-destructed. 10/10
Fellow Strudel enjoyer! :handshake: (just used it for the first time this jam and love it!)
This was a fun little entry! Love the idea of controlling multiple characters by noise
Woahh really cool idea! I played all the way through to the end just wanting to know more about the mystery! Also great art and voice acting :ok_hand: My favorite entry so far, great job!
There was a bug, my mouse sensitivity kept resetting and was too fast for me :no_mouth: But great atmosphere! Really love the art style, it's simple but looks clean and polished. Great work!
Cool concept! I love the idea of having to guess what your moves will be in the future, but some things felt a little too hard - e.g. the lasers are random or offset in their timing? Makes it a long waiting game for the right pattern to show up. Anyways, great compo entry regardless
Fun game! Loved the graphics and music in this one. Was a lot easier when I figured out I could turn off inverted controls
A modern work of art!
There was a bit of a delay between sending each letter and it getting revealed up top, but it's a cool idea! Love the 3d environment and the music
Very hard but cool concept!!
Interesting idea! On PC I felt limited by having to draw each pattern separately (I imagine they're supposed to be drawn with both hands at the same time on mobile). But it was fun regardless! Great job!
Nice job on the visuals are art, I loved the game's atmosphere! As others pointed out already it's got a steep learning curve, but I had fun regardless!
Was a lot of fun once I got the hang of it! Trying to keep the patterns in my head while also scouting the right upgrades was quite the challenge! 2x stars is definitely the best powerup, and I'd argue the game might be even more fun when you don't have any abilities
Great job, would love to hear some audio if you have time for a postjam version
@gideongriebenow I totally missed the cover image, thanks for pointing that out! Glad you enjoyed the game
Didn't get too far into the story but I really liked the art and music!
Cool idea! Took me a while to understand that a "high" stat meant "too high" and I needed to balance them better
Neat, simple game with impressively constructed captcha puzzles!
I had a lot of fun with this one! Graphics and music were fantastic, and getting those high combos was satisfying as heck. Excellent job, guys!
This was a pretty fun shooter! Graphics and music were solid as well. Neat entry!
Really cute game! The art really brought everything together in this one, I loved the dialog between the characters. :) Would love to see more things to do and a proper ending (unless this is achieved by waiting until 6:00?)
Great job guys!
Fantastic art and music, one of the best overall experiences I've played so far this jam! Sometimes, the bag doesn't exactly follow the projected path when thrown, but that wasn't a big deal in the long run.
Excellent job, all of you guys!
Really like the art style on this! Super fun retro-like brawler game, good job
I thought the movement scheme was really creative, and I like the atmosphere! Pretty fun game, good job
This game cured my tinnitus.
Short and fun game! The mechanics felt smooth, and the aesthetic was really nice :) Would love to see this game continued, good job!
Damage queue was taking too long so I played healer. 10/10, least toxic party I've ever played with.
Simple, fun swimming game! Really liked the mechanic of needing to move left or right in order to go up. Would love to see more obstacles with unique behaviors, and in general a harder progression over time. Nice work, guys!
Great art, great music, great dialog! The controls were *just* sluggish enough that it felt like I was really playing as a big boss. Great work!
24000 :)
24000.png
Pretty fun entry, I really liked the cannon mechanics! Graphics and music were on-point, great job guys
A fun game made even more impressive by Pico-8! Love how the snowball blows up after you lose. Great compo entry!
My hand hurts... 10/10
Really cute graphics and fun, simple gameplay! Great job
@realkonstantin Glad you enjoyed it! No secret ending... yet. :smirk:
I did not think this game was going to be as deep as it was, but once I realized the point of the game was to loop multiple times and build up your deck, this turned into one of the most interesting games I've played so far! I think I'd like to see a bit slower of a fall, because it's a bit hard to focus on the cards as well, but I really enjoyed playing this! Excellent work, especially for a compo game!
Something caused my party to lose in the middle of one of the levels and I ended up losing most of my gold, but I had fun with this one otherwise! Graphics and music were fantastic, awesome job on this game
10:27, baby :sunglasses:
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1447714935
This is such a good game! The ramp-up on the enemies feels just right, and there's nothing more fun that blasting enemies' shots back at them.
Graphics were clear and solid, and the music fit well with it! Probably my favorite game of this jam so far. Excellent job, Boats!
Still playing this game a few times a day :flushed:
I got a 10:48!
1048.png
Really cool concept for a tutorial section before the boss battle! Graphics were superb as well. A little hard, but I enjoyed it!
Would love to see this expanded and a bit more challenging :)
You nailed the art style, great job!
Pretty difficult and slightly overwhelming at first, but once you work out a good strategy it becomes much easier. Damn good UI for an HTML game. Colt hoof used more horse puns.
How Hard Liege Was Trying/10
Neat entry! I like the idea of cards being weapons AND health.
Neat little game! It's a little hard to spam the space bar while using WASD. and it would have been nice to have some indication of how much health you have left.
Singleplayer is really easy. /s
Difficult game, but I had fun! I liked the music!
Fun game! I expected it to be lot harder to manage movement and card-picking, but I got the hang of it pretty fast.
Fun game, thanks for the web version!
What's good: It's polished and professional-looking. Graphics and audio were stellar, and the controls felt responsive and intuitive.
What could be better: A tutorial of some kind would be nice. It takes a while to get used to the flow of the game, with so much information being thrown at you and so little time to make strategic decisions.
The AI for 1P might be a *little* too good, but I think this would be more fun if I had another person to play with!
Neat game! I like the fact that you move around the obstacles to create new places to hide. I would have liked the pushing animation to be a little faster, it felt almost absurdly slow. Also, like you said, CTRL messes up stuff in the browser. Maybe use a different key for that (C is also a common key for crouching).
Nice entry! Music was great, but perhaps the gameplay could have a bit more depth. I found that a perfectly good strategy was to just stand at the bottom and spam your sword.
Neat little game! Getting the towers up is absurdly hard, but I got a little better as I played.
Best game in the compo right here.
What's good: Great graphics. Great audio. Controls and mechanics were polished and intuitive! The dialog was a nice touch as well, it added a lot of character to the game!
What could use work: Since you don't lose any progress when you lose, an easy strategy is to just go all-in on every hand until you win.
Overall a great entry! I haven't played poker in a while, so I had fun with this.
Fun little game! It was difficult to focus on the screen and the notes at the same time, AND gauge reactions. Great job.
I don't have a friend to play with, so it was pretty difficult. Really liked the art, though! And the movement felt smooth and intuitive.
Eyyyyyy, great game! I don't see many FPS's in Ludum Dare, so props to you guys. The combat could use a little work, as it was mostly just clicking as fast as possible from far away. The characters added a lot to the game, though it admittedly took me a while before I realized you had to press E *on the text, not the character's sprite*. Overall a solid entry!
Neat little game! I liked the clean, minimal graphics. The game could be a little more responsive (sometimes you have to click something twice for it to register. maybe hitboxes are too small?) and as others have pointed out, the game froze after a few minutes of playing.
Took me a while to actually figure out how to play, but once I did it was pretty fun! Clearer instructions would have been nice. Nice entry!
Music was great! My character couldn't move faster than a crawl, though.
Really neat idea! The music is way too relaxing for the stress I'm experiencing! Haha. The aesthetics and humor were on point with this one though. Great job!
@doctorhummer Oh my god, this is amazing, I love this!
Really like the look and flow of this! The game played smoothly and the controls worked well. Would love to see more levels in this. Chose this randomly on my stream to play, and I'm glad I did! You can check out the VOD if you'd like :) https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766614151 (1:35:00)
This game was really hard at first, but after several runs I felt like I was getting pretty good at it! Graphics, music, atmosphere are top-notch as expected from the names in this collab. I played this for too long at the start of my stream. :D
Neat little game! The music was smooth and relaxing. :)
As others have said, this game is pretty difficult, but I felt like I was getting better the more I played. The music was pretty good, and I loved the voice acting! Didn't get to finish it on stream, but had fun regardless. You can check out the VOD if you'd like: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/763774333 (1:57:15)
My character moves soooooo slow, but I had a good time with this regardless. Cool concept! The background audio fit so perfectly.
Really like the concept of this game, and the art and music fit the style perfectly. I think the game is a little bit long and spread out, leading to 1) getting insta-killed and losing all progress, and 2) missing an egg early on and having no idea where it is at the end. Managed to get over half the eggs during my stream, and I had a good time! A solid entry. Here's the stream VOD if you want to check it out: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766614151 (1:03:27)
The music in this game is really good, and I liked the techno/retro vibes from the background as it changed with low-health. High score system was a nice touch, though it would be cool to see where I placed even if I didn't make the top 10. We'll see how long YOURNAME can reign supreme :)
This game is really good, I don't even know what to focus on. Gameplay, graphics, music, all fantastic for a jam game, and you guys even snuck in some humor as well! I played this on stream today if you want to check it out: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/762816555 (45:40) Solid jam entry!
Everything about this game is just so good! Started with a simple, funny concept, with solid gameplay execution, and topped with top-notch art and music. One of my favorite jam entries so far!
Wow, I love this entry! The art, music, and gameplay fit together so nicely. I also liked the "metroidvania" type feel to it - get items to gain access to new places and new items. Very well done!
I'm not convinced this game has an ending. Some people have posted images of the final screen, but I don't believe them. I'm stuck in paper hell for all eternity. 10/10 best teacher i love them please let me go
One of my favorite games in this LD! Art, music, game design were all top-notch and provided a clean, polished, and fun experience. My one gripe is that the game throws a lot at me at once when I'm just starting out, and it took me a bit to figure out what's going on and how to perform each action (like buying an item from the shop by dragging it down). All of this cleared up once I figured things out, and the game then became truly amazing. I can see this being polished up and released as a full game with some more content. Great job!
Now brb, I'm going to play more of this game.
This game was great, really made me think about everything I was doing. Don't shoot too fast or else the bullets will wrap around the screen and hit me. Don't shoot too slow or else the asteroids will wrap around the screen and pile up. But while I'm focusing on all this, I still need to collect fuel and power!
Graphics and audio were great as well. Solid jam entry!
Neat little game! Sometimes the physics were a bit wonky but I had a good time with it. Chose this one randomly on my stream to play, and I'm glad I did! You can check out the VOD if you'd like :) https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766614151 (1:45:25)
Neat little game! I really liked the wall-running mechanic and how it opened up each level to different approaches. The platforming wasn't bad either! Solid compo entry.
This game was pretty fun! I played a few levels on stream today if you wanna check it out: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/762816555 (1:08:00). Would like to see a few more obstacles aside from circles to fly around, but a solid entry nonetheless!
Really cool concept! Getting those multi-kills was pretty difficult but the loop mechanic was creative and fun. Some of the best music I've heard so far in this jam. As I said on stream, I think this would make a really cool stealth game. :)
Wow, I thought this game looked good at the start. Then the world started changing with each death and my mind was blown. Great concept, and you guys nailed the implementation!
This is a top-tier programming game - and it's so polished I could honestly see it being a full-release game with just some more levels! The puzzles were engaging and didn't feel random - I felt like my planning and strategy actually paid off. Had to play the rest of it after I finished my stream. My favorite level is 3-4, where I just popped in a few commands and watched my dude run around the whole level until somehow reaching the goal. Also, I noticed there are two level 4-2s :)
Neat little game! The cartoony characters were cute and it had a nice soundtrack to it. Solid jam entry!
I DID IT I FINALLY DID IT
Oh man, I didn't get to finish this on my stream, but I had to go back and play the rest of the levels afterward. I've been stuck on level 15 for about an hour now, and I finally maneuvered my way into this solution! :D ([spoilers](https://imgur.com/a/udYkagK)). Really liked the ending too. My life has [meaning](https://imgur.com/a/XZLNzoV) now!
Okay actually though, this is brutally hard, but finding the solution to some of these puzzles was just so satisfying. For such a simple game this had some really complex, clever solutions. Definitely one of the best LD puzzle games I've played.
Really like the art on this one, and it was pretty fun throughout. My main criticisms are that the mini-bosses and bosses should have patterns to what elements they select, and there's also a bit of a long trek from spawn to the final boss. A great entry nonetheless!
Wow, this game is probably my favorite jam entry thus far! Every aspect of this- the music, the retro-techno aesthetics, the radio commentary playing in the background, the tight controls, everything meshed really well together. Props on you guys for making a 12-person team work so well :)
Admittedly I just watched you play this on stream so the puzzles were kinda spoiled :) but I really liked the atmosphere and the story and all the details put into this! The art really fit the mood too. Great jam entry!
This was a neat little puzzle game! The amount of stuff on-screen was a bit overwhelming at the start, but as I played the game and got used to it, I really liked the layered, mirrored level layout. Great compo entry!
Really like the aesthetics and the music! No complaints that others haven't already mentioned, except maybe it would be nice indication of health - I didn't know if I was being damaged by the enemies or not until I died to one. All around pretty smooth and chill platforming, though, great compo entry!
The acapella was just incredible, and I love the hand-drawn art too! Managed to get myself soft-locked when I rotated to the next screen, but the player stayed within the bounds of the previous screen. For some reason I couldn't get back on screen. Anyways, replaying it was worth it for the ending!
Some of the best music I've ever heard in a jam game. Graphics were great as well, and the gameplay was smooth, simple, and fun! Great jam entry!
Don't have anyone to play this with so I can't rate some of the categories, but I think this has potential!
Clustertruck 2 is looking great!
Smooth graphics, and the music and sound effects fit the game well. My only criticism is that once you get better gear, the first several events become almost meaningless, but you still have to click through to get to the more challenging events. A solid entry overall!
Neat little game! I love the intermix between story and minigames, and the challenge mode was a great addition to provide more replayability. Art was pretty good, and the audio fit the retro gameplay perfectly. Would love to see this expanded on with more story and more minigames.
I really like the top-down jumping mechanics, and the game felt smooth and polished to play. There are a few game-breaking bugs, mainly losing your current item when picking up another, but after trial and error to avoid those, I had a lot of fun!
Man, the atmosphere in this is fantastic! Relatively simple but fun :white_check_mark: mechanics and art/sound that get the job done. Great entry!
Fun swinging mechanic, and the art and sound were great as well! It was hard to figure out where I could and couldn't go without dying (invisible killboxes, maybe?) but I found my way to end regardless. Great entry guys! :mushroom:
This was pretty cool! Graphics were simple but they worked. My only complaint is how long it takes to get back to camp after venturing into the woods. Really like how the game visually indicates your time left with both the player sprite and the moon. A solid compo entry!
Neat, fun little game with all the bells and whistles you would expect from an idle game. Congrats on making it in just one day, too!
The atmosphere is fantastic, and I loved the little things like switching between light/dark backgrounds. I felt like the sheer amount of text was a bit much given that many of the pages only had one choice to progress, but I think that may just be because I was streaming and reading it aloud at the time :) Cool entry overall!
Neat game! A little trippy for those with motion sickness, but I had fun with it!
Really nice aesthetic, and the music was haunting and mysterious! I love the mechanic of the camera following your torch wherever you throw it. Sublevel 7 was a little annoying to me due to the random movement of the ghosts, but it's not too much of an issue. Great entry overall!
Great little hacking game, I really liked digging through files and networks to find clues. Nothing really felt too hard to solve despite all the text. Some convenience functionality would be great, like navigating through past commands and autoscrolling, but it's understandable given the time constraints. A solid entry!
The atmosphere in this is so good. The minimalistic art style looks great, and the sound effects are top notch :ok_hand: 10/10 would swim with the meatballs again
The atmosphere really sells this one, and I liked the exploration and building aspects as well. Pretty solid for a first LD entry, good job!
@minibobbo Thanks for the feedback! And thanks a ton for sending your error message after the crash. I've put out a small patch to fix it.
Thanks for the error report @skoobydoo! It looks like your web browser doesn't support WebGL. That can happen if you have hardware acceleration disabled, for example. You can also try a different browser if you're so inclined. :)
Sup rextgun! This is a cool little demo, I can see this being really fun as a fast-paced FPS or roguelike or such. Once I tried out the spell combinations and learned what they all were, I was flying around the map with ease! Neat entry, would love to see it expanded on.
The platforming mechanics need a bit of polish and consistency, but I had fun with the game!
Absolutely hilarious! The voice acting and other sound effects were just too good. Also like that you can still continue on even if the guy dies. Solid first entry, guys!
Love the concept of a boss fight game! I personally do not like rapidly clicking mouse buttons, so limiting the fire rate to one consistent speed would be nice. Neat entry overall, though, good job!
This is one of my favorite compo games so far! Graphics and music were on point and the gameplay felt fluid and polished. The layering system is a neat implementation of the theme, and it was cool to the see the boss in the background before you get to fight him. My only complaint here is that the boss has a little too much health given his ability to insta-kill you, and I found it a bit hard to move around the arena. Still, having a boss fight in a compo game to begin with is an accomplishment, so props to you! Great job on this!
Really liked this one, as I'm a huge fan of metroidvanias. The combat was a little difficult to control, I found myself avoiding enemies more than fighting them because of that. Stumbling into that secret area was one of my favorite moments on stream yesterday. Great job on your first(?) LD jam!
Cool entry! Moving around by clicking the nodes is a bit weird, but the dialog made it well worth it. Ended up playing this on stream if you want to check it out  https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1004512553?t=00h53m00s
This game looks and plays so well for a compo game! Definitely gonna need more than 3 levels for this in post-jam :grinning:
Gameplay was a bit basic, but the atmosphere and voice acting made it well worth playing. Cool little game!
Short and fun. I really like the art style and the storytelling through atmosphere and visuals. Great job!
This one was really cool! Graphics and sounds were solid, and while the rules of the game (what the different resources do) took a while to become clear, I had fun with it. Great job guys!
Cool idea here! It took a while to figure out what actually produced good recipes, and I wasn't sure if I completed it once I reached 100%, but I had fun! Love the hammer swing animation. I played this for a bit on stream if you want to check out the VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1005643301?t=01h16m10s
Neat, short entry! I really like the art-style, big fan of pixel art with the shading of a 3D environment. Gameplay was short and basic, but I had fun with it!
Played this on my stream yesterday if you want to check out the VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1005643301?t=00h03m00s
I didn't find love, love found me. And I lost my damn mind.
Short, but fun! I think there could be a speed limit to prevent moving too fast, but I did have a blast zooming around the map and flying on top of my coffins. :)
Neat entry with a simple mechanic! I did get a little confused about the instructions and forgot that A) I need X pickaxes to mine a tile with X pebbles, and 2) I need 3 attacks to attack. Aside from that, I thought the Yahtzee mechanic was really fun, and both the graphics and audio complimented the gameplay perfectly. A solid jam entry!
Mood and atmosphere are through the roof in this game! The gameplay was simple but conveyed your message effectively. Really liked the questions at the start.
I believe my LiquorDisease% speedrun is still uncontested. :smirk:
Neat, simple game! Would love to see either 1) a victory condition, or 2) much higher difficulty so it doesn't feel like it goes on forever. Given the time constraints though, I liked it!
Died in real life after dying in game. 10/10 would try again. Silksong will come eventually brother, stay strong! (p.s. very interesting movement mechanic for a platformer. i see a lot of potential!)
Pretty hard, but I love the graphics! The voice acting for Jerry was on point. :ok_hand:
A fun and addicting little game. I felt the loot distribution and difficulty were heavily influenced by RNG, but it's enjoyable nonetheless! I really like the concept of bailing in the middle of the run to save your loot.
Yo this game is dope. Love the old Windows aesthetic, and the gameplay reminds me a bit of Dicey Dungeons. Love the mix of realtime/pause strategy mechanics. Great entry overall!
Insane visual quality, and the audio was great if not a tiny bit annoying after restarting so many times. Main gripe with this game is that it's mostly trial and error, and you have to keep playing the same sections over and over again to make any progress. I had fun while playing it, though, good job!
This game is like a puppy; small and cute. But seriously, I had a great time with this, given the simple mechanics! Love the touch of being able to name your similes before selling them. A suggestion for future development would be to add more conditions and bonuses so the player has a bit more focus in what they should write. Neat entry overall!
One of my favorite entries from this jam! I played it for about 30 minutes and enjoyed every second of it, although I AM a sucker for any kind of Motherloadlike game. (can that be a new genre??) Love the upgrade system, I really appreciate when games make you feel substantially more powerful after each upgrade, and you nailed it with this! My only complaint is that in the later stages of the game, I spent a lot of time just digging through dirt to get to the bottom (because it's more efficient than quickly following your old paths). Fantastic entry man, would love to see it expanded on!
This game takes the concept of "just text" and turns it into something unique and engaging. The tense atmosphere is top-notch, and at the same time, some of the combinations you can get yourself into are downright hilarious. For how simple it is, this is one of my favorite entries so far! :knife:
This was a fantastic golf game, I loved it! The physics were solid and predictable, and it was always fun to retry after a miss. The boss battle at the end blew me away. Very solid, polished game! I ended up playing it on stream if you want to check it out  https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1004512553?t=00h02m14s
Very fun game! I blew up the entire trash heap and filled the screen with coins :smirk_cat: 10/10
Fun little game! It was a bit slow at the start and a bit fast at the end  but honestly I'd rather play a game that gets difficult quickly than one that goes on indefinitely! Awesome job for a compo game
Fun little game! I love the mechanic of only being able to see the map every once in a while!
@dnivie Thank you! ~~Looks like the official game links aren't showing up here for some reason, so the link is in the description now. :)~~
@fae-pdf Thank you so much for the incredible words!! People like you are who drive me to better myself and improve my games every time.
Really fun! The combos were such a nice flair too. Excellent art and music, I think it could only be improved by using smooth level terrain instead of a tilemap. Awesome work guys!
So rare to see good indie FPS games in general let alone jams, but you knocked it out of the park! This game was pretty hard, but the movement and shooting was fun! When you run out of time, respawning at the last checkpoint instead of the beginning of the level would be nice  Solid entry overall!
Very cool! Love the loop mechanic. I think I'm supposed to say frog?? :frog:
Incredible work y'all, I don't think I've ever seen this level of environment design in a jam game before! The camera movement and transitions were smooth as heck, and shooting a bunch of guys with one bullet is so satisfying!
I personally got stuck on one of the shots on the third level, since needing to replay the entire level for each attempt is pretty punishing.
Overall, a fantastic entry, great job!
Nice take on the theme! That dang chair in the middle of the room I keep tripping on... I hate it but I love it  Great job!
Saw some updates for this on Twitter and thought this was one of your main games! Seriously impressive entry. Love where you put extra effort into things like the pre-stream and in-game credits to make the atmosphere really pop!
Also, I accidentally discovered a cheat key while trying to open a map...
collards.png
Very nice atmosphere and mood! The music cut out and stopped looping after a bit, but that's the only issue I experienced. Solid entry!
Fun little game! I like how you have to balance stuffing sushi in your mouth with smacking it off the belt. :smiling_imp:
Fun game, nice job! It felt just challenging enough without being hard, perfect for a jam game!
Neat little ship management game! I forgot I was about to play a Bleg game until I heard the acapella soundtrack. :smirk:
Neat little slingshot game! The LD game player doesn't do it justice, as there's not much room to pull back the slingshot. Great job, though, I liked it!
Incredible writing! There's not a lot of time in these jams, I'm impressed with how much you fit in! I felt the story was just the perfect length on my first playthrough, and I just had to go through again to get a different ending!
The art and music did wonders to build up the atmosphere - the viewscapes that cycle through from the window brought out that sense of the emptiness and void of space, and the music was mysterious and anxiety-inducing (in the good way!)
I don't know how things were implemented under the hood, but I noticed some of my choices impacted things throughout the entire story. When I told a joke at the start of the game, my character kept the light-hearted persona going forward... and when I chose not to tell the joke, the rest of the jokes disappeared from the story as well. I love this kind of attention to detail in games!
Well done, you guys really knocked this out of the park!
Fun game! I think the hitboxes could be a bit more generous (sometimes a bullet hit me when I think it shouldn't, sometimes my character just went through an enemy without slashing him). I had a lot of fun with this, though! Love that every level features something new and exciting, and a boss battle to finish it all off! Great work
Very fun game! Adorable graphics, energetic music, and a good ol bullet hell! Always love to see jam games tell a story throughout. If I can offer one criticism, I'd say add a little bit of lenience to things like timing and hitboxes. Overall very solid entry, and impressive for 48h!
Was a little laggy for me, but I love the concept of helping out a character you don't control. The randomly-generated names were a great touch too. Solid entry!
Cool concept! Took me one round to internalize the rules of the game, but after that I had a great time balancing which resources to take and use for summoning, and continually dragging the creatures back onto the circle when they run away. The art, music, and gameplay come together very nicely. Great job guys!
Simple but weirdly addicting! The RNG can be pretty brutal so I found a good strategy is to rush for the big number in the middle then avoid all of the modifiers for the rest of the game. Would be cool if you could interact with your opponent in some way if you get close enough. Great job!
Very cool! Love the idea of upgrading and preparing during the first stage, then fighting a boss when you're ready. Art is super cute and the music goes great with the theme of the game! Great job
Really digging the aesthetics on this game! Art and music are on point. I only think the summoning chant is a little loud, but that's a minor complaint. Would love to see the chain pull mechanic fleshed out and combined with more challenging obstacles. Great job overall!
Really cool, love the acapella sound effects and first person hands. Overall was really fun though the sensitivity was a bit high for my preference. Great job!
@blaise-ebuth Wow, that's incredible! This is the farthest I've seen anyone get π€― Really glad you liked it!
Very fun game! Like others I had trouble with the mouse controls on PC but it worked great on mobile! One suggestion I have is to make your spells always aim toward where you're touching. Found the easter egg in the source code *π«‘*
Fun entry! Had a great time working out the mathematically best way to place everything around the world. I really like how you can leave the summoning area and find random items around to help you. Great stuff!
Interesting game! Love how you made the player move around the platforms even though they're made of square tiles. Like others said this could use a little polish, but overall a neat entry. Love the art in the cutscene as well. Great job!
Took me a little while to figure out what the controls meant (especially that I could only summon and direct from the one room) but after that I had a lot of fun with this one! The art and music are on point as well. I know who I'm gonna call! (or am I the one being called...?)
Rich atmosphere and nice old-style aesthetics! It's not often you see a first person game made for LD but you did a great job! Congrats on your first LD, I'd love to see more from you guys
Incredible art design, and the music choice fits well too. Love the idea of an exploration / experimentation based sorcery game that starts simple and expands as you discover new recipes. Great job guys!
10/10 could snip hair all day
The character art is so cute and goofy and I love it. Great compo entry!
Loved it! Reminds me of some of the plug-and-play games I had as a kid. Hopping on a dino and flying around is surprisingly very fun! My only criticism is that I went left at the start, missed the staff, and got confused when the game told me to shoot it - I thought my controls were broken for a moment. Solid compo entry, great job!
Fun game! Love the art and music  It was a little frustrating that the enemies move quickly and turn around randomly instead of when bumping into a wall for example, and sometimes I took damage from an enemy when I jumped on it. But solid entry overall, great job!
Others have said this already but this is one of the most creative games I've played so far! I love how the building is quick and intuitive (e.g. to make a bridge I can just aim where I want to go and spam click). I could see this being a full-release puzzle game with some polish and more content. Great job!
Plays just a co-op board game! The general atmosphere of the game is incredible, feels haunting and dangerous. I like how when you rest, there's an increasing chance of a bad event happening. Great entry!
I'm not great at strategy games like these but I liked it! Even though the graphics are simple, it actually looks pretty good since you were consistent in your art style. This is seriously impressive for your first jam, great job!
how many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man??
What's this, a battle royale for ants? I would prefer standard directional movement, but I had fun nonetheless! (as long as you can find a weapon quickly...) Love that you can get right back into the game immediately after you die. Great entry overall!
Seriously impressive that you made the game engine, procedural graphics, sound effects, pretty much everything at this point entirely from scratch. :flushed: I love the movement and animations, particularly the tentacle thing you bring the orbs to, it looks so erratic yet intelligent. And your SFX generator sounds way better than the ones usually recommended for jams, I'm gonna have to snag it from you when it's finished!
I'm assuming the fish(bone) segments also act as a health bar, which is a nice touch. Great entry as usual, I always look forward to seeing what you come up with next!
Wow this is actually very cool! Love the art, and I honestly wish it was longer
I don't play a lot of tactics games but this was cool! You're the tactics king  The character art and action animations add so much life to the game. Great job!
Would love to see obstacles/enemies/etc. for some challenge, but it was a cute game regardless. Love the artwork. Great job!
Very cool idea! I like a good puzzle
Very fun concept! I'm a fan of any game that lets you bunnyhop  It's quite unforgiving though, I would have liked to see some checkpoints. But I think this has a lot of potential, great job!
Love this concept, LOL. The controls were just crazy enough to be silly but not frustrating! You should definitely expand on this with more content. Great job
Ran into the same issues other people were facing, but it had good atmosphere! Nice job! (P.S. the rules allow you to fix game-breaking bugs after the deadline, so consider doing that if it's an easy fix )
Well polished for a jam game, and the puzzles were clever too! Love the open design of the dungeon. I *think* I cheesed a couple of the puzzles, but that's how I like it. Great job!
Cool concept and quite well polished too! The WASD controls were a bit imprecise for me, I think I would have played better with mouse controls. But it was still fun! I love the little details you put into the animations and level design. Great job!
Cool concept! I don't know why, but the button to make a new ant didn't work, even if I had enough food.
Charming concept and great implementation! My one gripe is that I couldn't see the prices of anything in the store. But otherwise excellent entry! One of my favorites so far!
Awww this game is so cute! Literally my only complaint is that the character is really tiny or just close to the ground, but the grass made it hard to see. Otherwise super fun and chill, great job!
Fun game and great music!! Only complaint I have is that the boss should have a tell before he's about to dash. Otherwise great stuff!
Fun game! I love the artwork, next time I'd like to see some animations and visual feedback when the player does things like attack, etc. Great first game, hope to see more from you guys!
trash game tbh
/s actually everything in this game was put together so well! I love flipping and drifting around in my garbage truck. And the BGM is just :ok_hand: :ok_hand: :ok_hand: Great job!
I only got half the sheep but it was fun! Shout out to the animals for great SFX!!
yooooo Windows Solitaire just got a kickass update! Very smooth implementation of solitaire, and the upgrades can be pretty cool when I remember to use them
Cool concept! Would love to see some automation and more progression in the future, but great job!
Fun little game! I played it a few times and did it in under a minute
collector.png
Fun and clever take on the slide puzzle, great job! I'd love to play a mobile version of this with more levels
Fun little game! Love the creative start screen, great stuff
@Danik I'll add arrow key support and mess around with air friction. However, with the way we coded the level (including the void) it would be a lot of rewriting and experimenting for something that probably wouldn't work. The game would get easy if you could just outrun the void. We ran into that problem as well, so we settled on that so we'd have enough room for error, while not being able to see a lot of the upcoming level provides a bit more challenge.
Anyway, thanks for the nice comment and some constructive criticism, I'll definitely play around with the gameplay to see what works best!
@wally2069 What do you mean by "slippery"? And the bricks aren't supposed to give you powerups, the colored ones are.
@Rudy Due to a bug that's been fixed after the compo, you must have an audio device plugged in.
@Rudy I'm not sure if I can update the actual compo entry, but you can get the most recent version (includes the audio fix and arrow key support) at http://vectorzero.net/ld48/roundman
Don't worry, everybody! Next LD's game will be made in Java, so all the crashing and installer issues will be gone!
@marudziik We've tried just taking the files, without the installer, but the game doesn't run when we do that.
We are definitely going to add more info-based stuff (help page, point pop-ups, etc), but unfortunately, as this was our first LD entry, ran out of time, and had to publish as-is. For now, though, your color indicates which powerup you have:
Orange - None
Yellow - Faster Speed
Green - Double jump
Blue - Dash in midair
Purple - Low gravity
Red - Multiple small jumps
Yes, the powerups seem overpowered at first, but once you've advanced quite a bit into the game, you'll realize just how easy it is to die.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback!
This is one of the best games I've played this LD! I certainly have not ever seen that kind of game. Very nice job!
@samusetroid Apparently people think the theme was streched enough :/ Putting circles in would hurt that more.
Everything looks like it fits together! However, I found that it was impossible to maintain my hunger, and died after only a few screens. It might be intentional, but it made the game quite short!
