LD46 — Keep it alive

Plantasia by DeathBySnail 2020-04-21T13:30:25Z

This plant has so much character the way the branches dangle down before growing strong enough to reach upwards. Really impressive L-System with varying branch thickness and leaf sizes, you even put in flowers too! :sunflower:

Soul Survivor by fakefrogsonly 2020-04-20T05:26:00Z

I really liked how simple and effective the controls were, only shooting in cardinal directions makes the action more exciting. Good feel on the shots with recoil and passing through enemies. The gems were a bit hard to pick up for me only managed about 3. The soul is a cute companion :ghost:

Bubby by dnp 2020-04-20T10:53:41Z

Bubby is such a cute :dog: (is he a dog?) and I enjoyed the Lemmings-esque gameplay. You did good in coming up with as many levels as you did, bravo

Help Mr Pinky by Robinerd 2020-04-21T12:50:44Z

What a charming little game  I thought it was really cool how the pathfinding gave a personality to Mr Pinky; they way he always bounces along merrily then pauses when he reaches a different obstacle. First level was a good tutorial and the second a reasonably paced challenge. Bravo!

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-20T06:52:07Z

Wonderfully innovative gameplay here, really liked the additional puzzle elements that get added in the levels. Lovely music and graphics as well, the polish is incredible for a compo entry

The Unicorn and the need for coffee..! by INCD021 2020-04-21T13:43:32Z

Amusing and very realistic Unicorn raising simulator

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T18:14:40Z

@sacrface thanks, that's a very nice tree you've grown there :)

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T18:34:02Z

@cateye thank you very much :D

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T18:56:18Z

@owl-skip did you make sure the temperature and light levels are listed as good? Also don't water or feed the plant too much. If a seed is difficult to grow you can always start again :)

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T19:52:48Z

@ethebakesmith Thank you! :smile:

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T21:06:42Z

@ssstormy It's mostly random growth patterns, very pretty.

@trko Thank you!

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T21:59:27Z

@causalpigeon thanks for the kind words :) The buttons would be better as icons and the stats as visual indicators. I wasn't too confident in my art skills to do so...

@majk-fl yeah, procedural generation is great :D

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T22:31:30Z

@soupsauce thanks you  the singing is the best/worst part :P did you try giving the plant a name?

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T23:21:33Z

Thank you @fakefrogsonly and @wilson-taylor for the kind words :)

@jonah that is indeed a great name for a tree :D

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-19T23:38:41Z

@oxlox oh hey you got it running in widescreen mode, I never tested to see if that worked, awesome.

@furfel thanks  make sure to treasure it whatever the name :P

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-20T00:05:03Z

@ciber-turtle glad to hear it. I always find procedurally generated things fun to play with.

@zimny11 thank you, hope the singing wasn't too offkey.

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-20T01:12:48Z

@wzqxrys @cannedveg @madbookstudios @dnp @marco-stagni @ch4oticau thank you all for the very kind words

@causalpigeon a tree to be proud of for sure :)

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-20T06:58:58Z

@dandala88 thank you very much  if you want feel free to have a look at the source code on itch.io to see how it works. Yeah more strategy would be nice to add, I had all kinds of ideas for more activities like pruning, weather effects and choosing different seeds.

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-20T10:24:54Z

@west as much of an effect as singing to your plants has in the real world :P

@furfel thank you for liking my very programmer art graphics  Sadly the only music I could make would be as bad as the singing

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-20T12:35:11Z

@pke1029 thanks  I'd be more than happy to explain how the whole thing works. The plant is made up of branches each with a leaf at its tip. When a branch matures it then has a chance to create up to two child branches from its leaf end.

Of course if your more interested in how the sim decides if the plant grows or not its really rather simple; some water and plant food but not too much, and good heat and light settings.

Please go ahead and read the source code, I hope you find it manageable :D

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-20T15:18:03Z

@ramo thanks, Electroplankton is new to me so I'll be sure to check it out. I'm glad the game strikes such a good balance of seriousness for you :D

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-20T16:03:14Z

@sarrixx yep you have to be judicious in your feeding and watering :)

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-21T07:54:36Z

@vawer Thank you  the growing animation is one of the best parts. Thanks for the tree too!

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-21T12:12:48Z

@incd021 thank you very much :) I had a look at L-Flowers and thought it was a neat application of L-Systems too.

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-21T16:23:39Z

@chloeofarroyo adorable <3

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-21T17:57:33Z

@rhiz thank you  pruning is something I thought about adding. I would need to work out a lot of collision boxes to do that, which would mean calculating a hitbox based on all the parent lengths and angles... Perhaps that can be a project for another time :P Ash looks lovely, really nice colours.

Ludum Dare 46 Entry: Tree Sim by Alex Mulkerrin 2020-04-24T18:33:44Z

@j-c-one-bit-studio @alkis yes the game would have benefited from having nicer feedback on plant state, as it stood it only had debug-like text. I would have preferred to have meters showing heat and light tolerance for example.

@jonaspk Lindsay is clearly a plant that grows by her own rules!

Cactus Care by west 2020-04-20T18:26:53Z

That cactus gets quite angry when its thirsty  Tried it a few times before realising I needed the sink to be on first, then when I tried to water it physics shenanigans happened. Good laughs were had :)

Feeding Mr Biggs by Marco Stagni 2020-04-20T11:17:03Z

Cute robot and nice artstyle. The game didn't run too well for me in the browser so I didn't play for very long. :robot: :hamburger:

Link to the Flame by Feferuco 2020-04-21T13:02:05Z

Good graphics and the effect of the flames blackening the ground was cool. I tried the first level a few times and found the fire difficult to spread from one effigy to another. I wouldn't say you overscoped too badly and have made a great proof of concept for a bigger game.

Cellular: Automata by Baturinsky 2020-04-20T05:03:51Z

Loved it, great use of the theme and the Game of Life. I really liked the presentation of the project with well laid out interface. I too find cellular automata fascinating and have made games exhibiting it in the past, a good memorial :)

Google: The Good Boy by Sarrixx 2020-04-20T18:04:12Z

How did you do all the water effects? They were most impressive. Wishing I could move the camera to see where Google is going off to in the far distance. Lovely virtual pet, would care for :fish:

Colony by Swen 2020-04-23T12:23:23Z

For the queen! :ant:

Grove Guardian by VivianMochi 2020-04-20T12:30:52Z

Fantastic game and even more impressive for being made in just 48 hours :O

I found spamming roots everywhere to work well and then build up lots of trees to acquire sunlight and storage. Only lost a few exploratory root networks before winning on day 16 with a battery of cacti :cactus:

Life by pke1029 2020-04-20T12:50:20Z

Hooray another game based on Conway's Game of Life! Really liked the collection of little patterns you had to explore (R-pentomino is a favourite of mine) and the spaceship mode was charming.

The TIC-80 looks like an interesting platform is it based on any kind of computer in particular?

In A Game Wherein by SSStormy 2020-04-19T22:21:45Z

Meta commentary for us all  I thought the choice of colour and presentation was nice.

Not Clowning Around! by Wilson Taylor 2020-04-20T05:37:07Z

Difficult game here, at least on easy you can win just by talking to him. I had problems getting the cannon to fire, the button seemed to be obscured by the buttons on the itch.io interface. Still I liked the sound design.

Keep Vlad Alive by zimny11 2020-04-20T07:09:54Z

A puzzler farming game, lovely :D I thought the animations were really neat and the concept of a vegetarian vampire amusing

Confluence by Dandala88 2020-04-21T13:14:29Z

Perfect moody atmosphere from the music and slowly floating enemies, felt a bit like a Metroid game. The mazes were an interesting challenge and the boss fight at the end a nice treat. I really liked the art for the main computer with all those wires snaking around. Solid work

Star Buffs by MAJK_FL 2020-04-19T22:30:08Z

Challenging game, reminded me of geometry wars. I really like the neon lighting the ships and the bullets have. I managed to kill 18 enemy ships but I suspect I was playing it wrong as I never switched.

Rewilding: The Story of Wolfhead Valley by ChloeOfArroyo 2020-04-21T16:37:43Z

Really nice ecology game with interesting choices in strategy to make. The hand drawn artstyle is very nice. My best attempt I went a little overboard with rabbit colonies :P Rewilding rabbits.png

Space Station Alpha by kjscott 2020-04-21T16:58:48Z

Impressed at how much detail there is in this for a Pico-8 game. I didn't get very far but enjoyed what gameplay I saw. The ambience was excellent especially the slow reveal of the map. Glad that alien monsters can't go through doors!

Plant (Panic) by ETheBakeSmith 2020-04-20T11:31:39Z

I've never seen a PixelVision8 game before, reminds me of the gameboy advance

The music changing for the bug attack was neat and I liked the dinky pixel art used for everything. Simple but elegant :leaves:

Shy Talker - Keep the Conversation Alive by TrKo 2020-04-19T22:19:00Z

Good use of the theme, I liked that you had a running score of correct guesses so that making mistakes wasn't automatically a failure. Challenging game, much like real life D:

EICON TOWN by Sacrface 2020-04-20T07:47:12Z

Wow this game is complex for a compo entry, congrats! :o Really like that there is a little town to run around in, the graphic style is simple and stylish. Took a while to work out how the economy worked but once I did I was running to a fro like a busy little bee. I hope you continue to iterate on this game once the competition is over, I think it could become a full fledged title :D

Carry the Fire by Ciber_Turtle 2020-04-20T11:12:23Z

Quite a tricky little platformer. The pixel art flame effects were lovely. I managed to get to the point where you have to throw the torch but didn't get further. Was there meant to be music playing? web version seemed silent.

Again quality pixel art

LifeLine - Music Pattern Obstacle Dodge by WZQXRYS 2020-04-20T10:40:21Z

How did you make such nice music with procedural generation, amazing! :D

The music is phenomenal, still listening to the guitar on the gameover screen as I type. The graphics are a nice Tron-like synthesizer style. It was neat listening to the procedural song as you play, only issue I had was stepping on too many green spikes and speeding up to an unmanageable amount.

Save Ivee by Furfel 2020-04-20T07:24:02Z

The tutorial was very good, glad the game had that to get used to the controls. I found the game to be quite difficult as I wasn't sure how to get to the colours of the crystals with the colours provided. Art was nice and the sound effect was good :)

Be a Good Friend by oxlox 2020-04-20T11:37:01Z

Cute game with cute pets :dog: :cactus:

Gibi Committee for Shadok Preservation by Ramo 2020-04-20T18:14:56Z

Having a demo video is a brilliant idea, allows everyone regardless of OS to see what your game is like  I really enjoyed the intro and the slow realisation that the Shadoks won't sit still. Good cartoony style characters and space physics

TweeTree by Rhiz 2020-04-21T12:33:40Z

Amazing to think such a neat L-system fits within a single tweet. Very cool

The Game of our Lives by Owl_Skip 2020-04-19T19:02:38Z

Beautiful game there. I really liked that you decided to add a voice-over to add to the experience. Just like Conway's game of life little clusters of cells do the best. I still liked making as many as I could in close confines for the nice particle effects.

campfire by jonah 2020-04-19T18:53:26Z

A Pico-8 game, very impressive! I really like the colour scheme you went for and the music changing depending on the state of the game. Very stylish minimalism all round :)

I had a look at the source code, I didn't realise Pico-8 was scripted in Lua, neat! Love the way the graphics and sound are encoded right there in the same file too.

Keep Your Rage Alive! by cateye 2020-04-19T18:43:09Z

Awesome game you've made, congrats! There were lots of neat things in the levels I played (I got to the second one with green barrels) The animation of the opening text was nice, the explosion sounds v. realistic :P and the TNT and gun turrets were lots of fun to mess around with.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Down to the Wire by Mieeh 2022-04-09T15:48:38Z

Super stylish puzzle game. I liked how new mechanics were introduced with levels that allowed experimentation. The music and sound effects were well suited to a puzzle game and I liked they way each puzzle fell away upon completion :)

Eternal Crisis by cerno-b 2022-04-11T11:08:40Z

This is a great spin of Warning Forever and very impressive for a Compo game!

The graphics and music very really nice especially the starfield in the back. Procedurally generated bosses are such fun with lots of turrets to dodge and blow up one by one. I enjoyed the enemy variety, one might spam loads of missiles, another lasers. I even had one which had all the weaponry on the left side and none on the right.

The time penalty mechanic worked well and let you keep going after a tough match. I also appreciated that the timer paused until the next boss was fully onscreen.

How complex was the procedural generation of the bosses? I recall that Warning Forever adapted the weaponry of the bosses to what it managed to hit you with the most. Was there anything like that going on here?

Excellent that you already have a post mortem and a time-lapse up. Will definitely check them out :D

Post Solis by Nikolay Zapolnov 2022-04-09T14:14:14Z

This is a super cool game concept and impressively executed for just a game jam :D I appreciated the in depth tutorial text about everything in the game and the care that went into making a fully featured interface. The concept is great and the building things with drones from a massive mothership put me in mind of the Frames from the Perimeter rts games.

Impressed that you are already working on postjam improvements and looking forward to seeing what this idea might become!

CRAB IS INEVITABLE! by luthwyhn 2022-04-11T10:40:37Z

The graphics are cute and I enjoyed that the upgrades changed the design of your crab. I upgraded the weapons to max but then the sea urchin stopped showing up :(

My happy weedy farm by Marin0104 2022-04-09T15:09:29Z

The graphics are as everyone else has said are lovely :) I appreciated the context sensitive actions all mapped to a single button which makes things very intuitive. Such a nice relaxing island to farm :3

Priestess of Larak by Alex Mulkerrin 2022-04-04T19:43:31Z

@sdelay Thank you  Yeah the amount of text is a bit much. If I had more time I would have worked most of the stats in the top left into visual bars on the interface.

@games-by-tom Thanks, I enjoyed putting in reasons for the variable harvests. Personally all my games have some kind of simulation element to them :P

Concerning strategy I didn't have time to implement a check to calculate whether your current supplies would last. It's something I would definitely add to a more polished version. Sometimes you will not be able to sow 100% of your fields if you don't have enough labourers or you might want to use less grain as seed in order to have enough to feed people. Maybe in the future there could be multiple tasks your limited pool of labourers could work on?

Priestess of Larak by Alex Mulkerrin 2022-04-06T08:17:49Z

@cover-club-media and @feesh thanks for the kind words  the simulation is really pretty simple under the hood but I'd definitely like to add more to it.

@stasgrach, @corporation and @emberushi yeah it could be explained a lot better  I did add a bit of text explaining the situation to the game description on the itch page but it would be better if it were incorporated into the game.

I'm definitely going to add an intro screen with explanation of the game mechanics and overhaul the representation of stats :)

Priestess of Larak by Alex Mulkerrin 2022-04-09T13:51:34Z

@zimny11 Thanks, economy based games are pretty uncommon so I quite enjoy making my own :) Good suggestions for ways to make the crop growing mechanic more complex. It'd be neat to have crops that grew quicker or slower and had different returns.

@cievers it's lucky to be living in the 21st century rather than thousands of years BC. Not very many game developers back then! :P

@janku I'm glad you enjoyed it :D yeah there is a lot of text and I'd like to make the information be presented in a more visual style with bars and animations.

@pepnou Yeah at the moment there isn't much reason to harvest less, better tactic to sell off land when you need more food. Haha yeah those rats are crazy, they can currently eat up to half(!) your stored food :o I could add some sound, probably just basic beeps and boops though...

Priestess of Larak by Alex Mulkerrin 2022-04-11T10:25:36Z

@luthwyhn I'm so happy that someone else knows of the game I took inspiration from :D

Hamurabi is great, not only for being one of the first city management games but also because it was shared with other people back in the day when game programs were simple enough that the source code (in Basic) was printed in it's entirety in a computing magazine! A shame that was well before my time but you can still find scans of the magazine [online](https://www.atariarchives.org/basicgames/showpage.php?page=78)

@nyxkn @harmadillo and @rustywolf Yeah the amount of information presented to the user is pretty overwhelming and cluttered. It's more like a full debug display rather than an ingame one :/

I'm planning on completely revamping the display of information to only show the most important details with the others available on mouse over. It would be nice if the game told you if there was insufficient food to last till the next harvest too...

Priestess of Larak by Alex Mulkerrin 2022-04-20T10:45:35Z

@ksimaster next release might take some time but I'm happy to know you're looking forward to it :D

@theblitz the logic for plagues is very basic at the moment and I'd like to totally revamp it. Ideally a plague will only be possible once you've reached enough population and the effect will be based on how healthy your people are. Also I think there should be a mega disaster that eventually happens that all but guarantees your failure >:D

@notime4games heh I see someone hit upon the idea of always using half rations (which never actually cause any negative effects at the moment...) I've always liked having after game stats to look through too. Sadly what I managed to make for the Compo were very basic, as can be seen by those graphs going off the top of the chart :P

Orbles by Rongo Matane 2022-04-05T19:17:58Z

Been looking forward to seeing this entry ever since I saw the in progress screenshots on the website feed :D

Fantastic work everywhere for such a fitting game for the theme. That your team was able to get everything done in such a short time is testament to your organisational skills, congrats!

Thanks for doing a twitch stream of playing the game too. It was very cool to see the game played all the way through. There was even some live bug fixing and the game kept running after being frozen. Is this the power of Godot? Wow :O

Isn't-Land by Villfuk02 2022-04-08T09:47:38Z

This is a fantastic game for a compo entry! :D

I really enjoyed the interplay of all the resources and that everything required multiple resources to maintain. The sound effects were nice and a good way to depict the loss of buildings to rising sea levels. Good job :)

Really suitable game genre for the theme and there are lots of interesting additions that could be made. I hope you get the chance to work on it some more.

The deadline by BasselMks 2022-04-09T14:20:10Z

Congrats on making a game from scratch in a complex language like C++ (I just make games in JavaScript which is much simpler :P ) The music is great and I really like that you've made a gameplay example video :)

SOS Earth by poisondart00 2022-04-09T14:57:56Z

This is a really well made end of the world simulator. The 3D planets are delightful with the swirling clouds and points of light on the night-time side of the earth and the moon spinning round. The effect of the sun getting ever closer until it looms massively in the sky is great :D

This project shows a lot of promise and I hope you continue to add to it. I only managed to get half of the tech tree done before the earth was destroyed and it would be cool if there was a hidden tech to either save or escape the planet.

Again very cool compo entry!

Rising wind Island by ShivArt 2022-04-08T16:54:41Z

This is a delightful little game. It's really fun watching your little peons going back and forth. Lovely pixel art and the gunshot particle effects look great.

Like @rongo-matane I made it to the vast whiteness above. I wish the floating island inhabitants good luck in their new journey outside the bounds of reality.

Estrella by Xiris 2022-04-09T08:01:59Z

Making a typing game for the Compo is really impressive. I loved the graphical style and the effects were punchy.

SandCastle by sdelay 2022-04-04T19:57:58Z

That is one cute crab :crab: Really nice use of the theme and I enjoyed the construction choices and wave mechanics.

Persist Ant by rynsy 2022-04-11T10:49:27Z

The artstyle is very nice and having an opening cutscene was neat. The jump and dash were difficult to use together as pressing ctrl too often would stop the game from running. Perhaps put dash on shift and make it toggle on for a few seconds?

The Splat! Zone by PostPostScript 2022-04-09T15:30:58Z

Really inventive game idea. I liked the interesting challenge of directing the bugs by marking a route with sauce. The interface is well made and I liked that you could use the mouse scroll wheel to go through the buttons. This is a strong concept for a more developed project, well done :D

Hydropy by lantto 2022-04-09T07:48:22Z

That zoom out effect is very nice and watching the lava propagate while being blocked by water is cool :D

LD55 — Summoning

Summoning Thing by JCMonkey 2024-04-15T15:22:03Z

Cool a cellular automata :D

Infernal Conquest by bloodyaugust 2024-04-15T15:40:20Z

Nice artstyle having demons on what appears to be an alien world. Good mix of unit types seem key to winning.

Runic Distractions by 1y1e 2024-04-15T14:49:01Z

Keyboard mashing as a mechanic is certainly novel!

I enjoyed the aesthetic of this and the humour that came through in the text. Nice lighting effects too with the candles that must remain lit so you can see the runes.

Magical Summoner in Fishing Vacation by AcsiD 2024-04-15T14:27:08Z

Nice music and art on the main menu. I guess someone was hoping for a particular theme to come up :P

Mana Tactics by argensis 2024-04-16T13:58:07Z

Really impressive to be able to make a tactics game for the compo. The units are varied and the artwork simple but effective.

Mana Delve by Alex Mulkerrin 2024-04-17T18:46:20Z

@the-lame-brain @jcmonkey @sigmoiddev @theyflower @sirjupitron @bloodyaugust @m0zrat @pres2300 @lyamgtt @camd67 @ilari @owtuvammo @alanbrook @argensis @goodwincek @andreas-decker @rubikon

Thank you all for taking the time to play my game and take the effort to give me feedback. I feel a lot better for making it now than I did on submitting it when I was quite unhappy with the quality of it.

I'm impressed that people took the time to complete it when I was worried that it was far too opaque and difficult for anyone other than myself to understand. I completely agree with the feedback that more information needs to be shared with the player about what the different buildings do and the economy.

Originally the economy was going to be for a factory building game but I switched it to mana to better fit the theme. I think this got rid of a lot of intuitiveness eg. purple was electricity, red and green were metal and electronics. If I go back to this concept I'll probably return to the factory framing.

I'm glad people were able to enjoy playing this and am again thankful that you took the time to leave feedback :)

Depths of Hell by pres2300 2024-04-15T14:54:39Z

Good job on a first entry, the core gameplay mechanics worked well. The gun is plenty powerful and I liked the collecting bones to summon the boss mechanic.

The Klent by sirJupitron 2024-04-15T15:09:41Z

Cool oldschool graphics and sound effects. Dino looks so happy to be there.

Sminer by LightningST 2024-04-15T14:08:04Z

Really polished entry with great art and sound! The digging felt really nice with the little hat spin up and a bit of strategy in where to dig and what resources to go for. Little ghosts seemed to be the best thing to beeline for, always need more of them.

The tutorial at the beginning was very nice and went over all the mechanics well.

Only issue I saw was that the version embedded on the Ludum Dare website itself doesn't work, giving the following error "Failed to read the 'serviceWorker' property from 'Navigator': Service worker is disabled because the context is sandboxed and lacks the 'allow-same-origin' flag."

Other than that, perfect!

Sminer by LightningST 2024-04-15T15:50:10Z

@lightningst Windows 11 and using google chrome.

Honorius by BitLuderRb7804Fr 2024-04-15T13:56:10Z

I really liked the art for this one, especially the title card. Effects of the symbols spinning round were good too. I didn't get to far but seemed like a good execution of a simple concept :)

Graveyard Shift: Skeleton Dad Simulator by mrVentures 2024-04-15T14:37:35Z

Really funny visual novel sections and nice art, the moving scales were neat.

Accio! by alanbrook 2024-04-17T18:57:07Z

Very novel puzzle concept which works well to make challenging levels. The monastic singing really sets the mood and having a level editor built in is impressive for a compo game. Great!

Summongrel by James_7777 2024-04-15T15:28:41Z

Nice monkeyball vibe from the gameplay and an inventive mechanic of building things in the levels and then playing them. The music and chunky resolution made me think of games for the original playstation, neat.

Ecaroh's Mecharoh by goodwincek 2024-04-16T14:04:50Z

Really impressive compo entry. I thought the graphics were top notch especially the shadow effects on destroying an enemy. It was good to have a tutorial at the beginning too.

Summon the Armada by Andreas Decker 2024-04-15T15:34:31Z

Nice clean and simple graphics. It's good to see momentum respected in a game set in space :)

Lonely Hearts Demonology Club by The Lame Brain 2024-04-15T13:48:53Z

I liked the music and the intermissions were cute.

It was a difficult battle of attrition once the demon showed up and I'm not sure how I was meant to fill up nodes enough to win at that point.

Wrath of Wrathmus by Fredrik Andersson 2024-04-15T15:02:14Z

Very high quality entry! I thought the artstyle was very nice and liked getting to assemble the monster from parts. The voiced(!) dialogue was neat too. Really interesting game concept.

Battle of the Serifs by CamD67 2024-04-16T13:49:49Z

The animations were really good for the characters just being letters. A really novel idea executed well.

Imp Master by Owtuvammo 2024-04-15T14:32:20Z

Nice pixel art and I thought the game fit the theme really well.

Super Pal Summoner! by Meepster 2024-04-15T15:18:09Z

Really well polished entry with an addictive core gameplay loop. I thought the introduction of new pals was well done and could see this being really fun to rack up a high score in.

Devilish Dates by PilotTK 2024-04-15T14:13:44Z

The music is lovely and I liked the art style.

Sadly when I played I couldn't progress after the first dialogue choice.

Jury Summons - When Duty Calls by Warren Fisher 2024-04-15T14:21:52Z

I liked the surreal vibe of the music and visuals, so many weird and wonderful jurors.

The vibe continued with the possible question categories and answers, very imaginative!

LD58 — Collector

Overdraft Charles by Yvanor 2025-10-11T17:57:01Z

This was a pretty neat game! I liked the art, lots of big pixels. The tutorial was very well done. It was nice how the house varied a little each time you went through it. I got to the end by mostly collecting big items and you did a nice ending. Very impressive for a compo entry.

CrateSpin by manabreak 2025-10-06T15:32:34Z

Nice little shoot 'em up. It is suprisingly fully featured for a compo entry. I managed to collect the crates but was destroyed by the boss. Really nice artstyle and the music is impressively complex. Very good :)

Gemwright by Jimbly 2025-10-06T12:06:31Z

The interface is well presented and the icons are nice. I did like the sound effects and the increasing complexity of actions felt good.

Cellmate by thejackimonster 2025-10-07T17:18:32Z

The music and prison graphics give it a nice moody atmosphere. The burning card effect was cool as well. Implementing the whole of solitaire is impressive.

Star fleet Telescop by VikFX 2025-10-06T15:02:04Z

A very original idea for a collection game. I liked how fully featured the interface was and the drawings of the planets were neat. Clearly a lot of thought went into the different filters and star classes. A promising start :)

Clean Line by Jesús González 2025-10-06T16:51:32Z

Impressive functionality for a compo entry. I liked the art style and the little tune that played when the train was moving. Interesting gameplay mechanic to have you change the track whilst the train is moving. I did find one bug where if you go back through the tunnel you start the first level from you end up stuck in a rock. Otherwise great entry!

Normal Parts by Linus Lindberg 2025-10-06T14:35:47Z

Very creepy aesthetic (good). I do have to wonder a bit about the scoring metric, I never found any arms but legs did fine in that slot. In fact I got a pretty good score from having a leg instead of an eyeball! The physics of tumbling around as an assortment of parts was neat.

Sherd by xlambein 2025-10-06T14:13:18Z

167s to get all the sheep in the pen :)

The idea is great and the flocking behaviour was very nice. The minimal animations worked well and it was nice to have a game that can be controlled simply by moving the mouse. If there were more levels it would be great.

Forest of the magic mushrooms by jojocanard 2025-10-07T13:42:24Z

Really enjoyed this one. The art and music are top notch and I enjoyed getting to know the abilities of all the mushrooms. I even managed to get back to town without being transformed into something :) Great entry and impressive how much you managed to do.

Idle Badger by lectvs 2025-10-12T14:47:03Z

The way the game opened up was really cool. I'm glad the badger made an appearance, very nostalgic. Very well put together entry and I feel like the idle game could have been extended into a full one.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-06T14:03:37Z

@maytch Thanks! I do like going for retro art as it's easier to do in the timeframe. I'm glad the game was clear to play.

@benjamin-gare Thank you, I felt like a timer would add a bit of challenge to it, I'm interested to see what the average time is and how fast it can be completed.

@zubspace Thanks, I enjoyed doing all the dialog. It's the first game I've done a game with npcs in it. I'm glad you found it relaxing. Good time, I wonder if anyone will get faster than that :)

@madr I'm glad you found it nostalgic as I was aiming for something you'd see on a retro console. Thanks.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-06T15:51:56Z

@emojimaster good time, your collection skills are mighty indeed :)

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-06T16:26:00Z

@pincushion Thank you, I did want the game to have as simple a control scheme as possible. I did want there to be an element of exploration and finding new tools to open new areas.

Deforestation eh? The king won't like that :P

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-06T17:59:02Z

@indigowolf Thanks, I was going for something like a gameboy movement mechanic.

@mdotedot MSX is a new console for me, I'll have to look into it :)

@ehtd I didn't do anything special for getting multiple keypresses for a held down button so that is probably why it feels weird. It would have been better if I had kept track of keys down independently.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-06T19:13:13Z

@vikfx Thank you, I was going for a gameboy, zelda-like kind of game.

Also thank you for taking the time to look at the source code. I always appreciate constructive criticism like that. Yes it was getting to the size where splitting into different files would have made sense. I kind of have classes already due to using prototypes but I can see the reasoning about using the explicit syntax.

If you have any ideas for improving the conditional logic I'm all ears. I knew it looked gnarly when I wrote it but I couldn't think of a better way to implement checking for various conditions.

Again thanks for the helpful feedback! :D

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-06T19:36:25Z

@threeli Yeah polling over time would be the better way to do it. I guess I was thinking the way key events naturally fire once and then constant fire over time would be useful. An easy fix for the post compo version :)

Thank you for enjoying the character writing as it was a new thing for me to do. I usually make procedural things so to have a fixed world was a new experience too. Part of me wants to make it so you get a new map each time you play... Thanks for the feedback!

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-07T12:06:58Z

@threeli Thanks for the follow :D I'll definitely think about more things to add in terms of collectibles and new maps.

@rhewid I'm glad you enjoyed it. Not having another button to interact was a nice coincidence in terms of not getting around to adding extra input methods. I can see you were an avid collector going off of that full inventory.

@tim-eriksen Thank you. The boat was something of a last minute addition which I'm pleased at getting working the way I wanted. If only I had given the map more water to explore.

@pres2300 Thank you, I'm glad people are liking the dialog as I hadn't done any before. Some music would have been nice but a bit beyond my abilities. Someday I'll go back to working out how to play more complex melodies using pure JavaScript.

@vikfx Ah right an array would be good if you populated it as flags are set. I'll have a look for machine state, thanks. Perhaps I should have called the flag hasBeenGivenAxe but you're right at the moment it is a duplicate. Thanks again for this feedback :)

@jose-bonilla Thank you very much! I was going for a simple artstyle and ease of use. I can see myself adding lots of other vehicles to use.

@noodlestorm Yes having the ability to hold down the walk keys would be a good edition, especially if I make a larger map, thanks.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-07T13:16:23Z

@hoeleboele yep a quick game that everyone can beat :) I've been iterating on the same structure of a game engine for quite some time so it was nice to add new elements to it this time. I still have lots to learn though.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-07T16:25:54Z

@tommeh Yep it's not a long experience but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've started working on changes to a post compo version and yes making you not skip dialog is something I'm working on.

@nekowei Thanks :) I was going for a nostalgic feeling and it was the first time I experimented with quest chains.

@thejackimonster I'm glad you found it intuitive as I didn't want to make an entry too complicated to understand. I do like bips and beeps. Thanks!

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-08T15:26:13Z

@arkicade Thank you! I did take the theme as an excuse to write lots of fetch quests. I'm glad you found it easy to find out what to do next too, I didn't want to make the main quest too difficult.

@robert18 Thanks, a true grand collector would indeed collect every log in the realm :)

@baluj I'm glad people can enjoy a little game like this, thanks.

@liquid Thank you, simplicity is a good reason for keeping things minimal. At one point everything was just coloured squares but I thought that would be too simple.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-08T16:42:23Z

@artificer Thank you :) It is meant to evoke that kind of old school rpg style. I'm happy someone enjoyed zooming around and you put it to good use to get a time like that!

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-09T15:11:49Z

@holysparks I'm happy you enjoyed your silly quests :) That's a good time there I ought to be keeping track to see who can complete it the fastest.

@jscommander Thank you. It's something a bit new for me in a Ludum Dare to make something without mouse controls.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-11T17:35:43Z

@yvanor Thanks :) Yeah I guess it is pretty common for players to collect everything they can as soon as possible so blocking more resources would be good.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-12T14:26:48Z

@lectvs Wow impressive! That's even faster than I can complete it in. Thanks for giving it a spin :D

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-12T14:56:30Z

@andriybyelikov Thank you, the king does pay attention after all. Yeah the control scheme is a bit too basic and I would love to learn how to make 8-bit music as well.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-14T18:10:19Z

@sudocoffee Thanks! The fog makes exploration much more rewarding. Early versions of the game had all the map revealed from the beginning which was much less interesting. Perhaps in a future version I could make it check if you really cut down everything or not.

Grand Collector by Alex Mulkerrin 2025-10-20T17:46:29Z

@xpoho Thank you, it could have been a text adventure game I guess. Writing the dialog was fun.

@lunardust Thanks, I'm just glad I managed to make something even if it was simple

Letter Collector by lunarDust 2025-10-20T18:31:24Z

Great game idea of turning scrabble into a collecting game. The artwork was very nice and I enjoyed the animations in the interface, although the summing up your score did take awhile. I managed to complete it but only by beating up that poor bat again and again. With some more art and sounds this could be a very good standalone game. Very cool!

Tiles Collector by dhim 2025-10-07T13:58:35Z

This is a brilliantly realised puzzle game with excellent presentation. I'm amazed you were able to create something that looks so professional in just 48hrs. The mechanic is novel and I think it's great that you were able to implement daily challenges. I can definitely see this as a New York Times game :)

Dragon Hoard by pres2300 2025-10-06T16:09:10Z

Cool game! Really gets you into the mindset of a dragon beset by pesky hobbits.

The sound effects were nice and the bouncing physics of the coins made frantically trying to recollect your horde fun. I only got to wave 10 but a sharp shooter could get much further.

Mushroom! by Tim Eriksen 2025-10-06T17:01:45Z

It was very nice to wander around completing my collection of mushrooms in perfect condition. The aesthetics of pico-8 were well used in this entry.

Sugar Crash Clair by epb9000 2025-10-07T12:59:23Z

Love the papercraft aesthetic and the music was well done. It is a simple game idea executed well and collecting speed is a great interpretation of the theme.

Shape Collector by rhewid 2025-10-07T12:49:05Z

SImple idea but executed well. I liked all the animations on the menus and shapes. I could see this becoming quite addicting as you keep piling bonuses atop each other. The music felt appropriate too.

The Crossing by IndigoWolf 2025-10-06T13:39:52Z

Nice game concept and cool spin on frogger games. The ghosts look good and I like the idea of having to multitask the process of sending off multiple boats. I'd be interested in seeing if you add to this idea.

Clear Skies by Nash 2025-10-06T13:56:02Z

Really original idea for a game. The music suited the experience and I liked the in-game book on constellations. Impressive to pull this off with the limitations of pico-8.

Mid-Sized Monsters by Maytch 2025-10-06T12:20:07Z

This is a nice little monster collecting game. The shadows from 2D sprites effect is very nice and the minimal animations go well with it. I liked the chiptune sound effects and having an open procedural world is cool. Being able to click the buttons with the mouse would have been good.

Attic Thrifter by Sthor726 2025-10-06T13:47:30Z

Really well executed puzzle idea. The art style fits the nostalgic vibes. I found the rat an interesting addition to a block pusher, why it wants to eat those things we'll never know. I could see this being extended into a full fledged game, excellent!

Quickollect by zubspace 2025-10-06T13:05:38Z

The art style is just perfect for a game you might show a young child. Well executed concept and I really like that you included a time lapse of development.

Trade Up! by Pincushion 2025-10-06T15:11:55Z

I thought the presentation of the game was done very well and the thorough in-game instructions were good. The music was appropriate and there were good sound effects. I would be very interested to know if anyone can beat the hardest difficulty.

Flight Terminal Assistant by Benjamin Gare 2025-10-06T12:27:25Z

I did not expect to be playing a recreation of flight check-in from 1990, very novel. The sound effects were very accurate and I expect the UI on the computer is too. Of course I gave everyone seats in first class. Nice credits page too.

Petals by AppoxGames 2025-10-06T12:56:16Z

Really impressive meditative game. The aesthetics of the music and animations are great. The mechanics are interesting and are a bit tetris-like in terms of squeezing in pieces. I only got a score of 434 as I was mostly looking for spots where any shape could go down. Still, great entry!

Greedy Collector by José Bonilla 2025-10-07T12:22:02Z

Having achievements in a compo entry is cool. Well polished presentation and I found the roll move useful for getting around. Sadly I didn't get very far before encountering an error when picking up one of screen clearers (this was in the itch version)

###### ERROR in action number 1 of create Event for object obj_Wall_UpperLeft: DoSub :1: undefined value at gml_Script_anon@4355@animation_start@animation ###### gml_Script_anon@4355@animation_start@animation (line -1)

Still I could see it being a fun game as the number of enemies increases more and more.

Cave Packer by Tommeh 2025-10-07T17:11:37Z

Really good flow state to the game as you swap between mining and playing backpack tetris. The game seemed well fleshed out and the graphics and sound are very suitable. My favourite upgrade was the jump height one as you just sail through the underground. Good job!

Gotta Cat 'em All by HolySparks 2025-10-09T15:26:20Z

This was a nice and relaxing game. I liked the little puzzles each of the cats were and exploring the environment to find key items. The pixel art is nice, especially the scene of the apartment which has been well loved by cats. Saxophone is the best instrument for comfy vibes. Lovely :)

Hammer & Horde by Paroxysmal 2025-10-06T15:50:34Z

Very nice idea for a game mechanic. I had fun hopping around the level even if there wasn't anything to do with the loot found. The art style and sound effects were very reminiscent of a gameboy game which was cool. A fuller version of this could have a puzzle platformer element to it

Pollen Pusher by Quail Weaver 2025-10-06T16:36:07Z

Great novelty in doing a sokoban game on a hexagonal grid. The presentation is delightful, especially the tiles. Not sure why the music stops when the bee goes for a swim, it is going to get out, right? D: Anyway making a fully featured level editor is very cool.

snake-collector by nekowei 2025-10-06T14:24:34Z

Having powerups change the gameplay was cool and I like the concept of controlling multiple snakes in a game. The hand drawn illustrations on the cubes was cute.

Can you give me a hand gesture? by She Wrote 2025-10-06T16:14:28Z

Really inventive idea for a game. I liked the colours and animation effects.

Friendly by xpoho 2025-10-20T17:57:50Z

The sound effects were nice, especially the blergh sound. I thought the simple graphics and music really expressed a school environment. I got two endings and it really seemed up to chance what happens. Neat :)

Predincament by Threeli 2025-10-06T17:12:02Z

All parts of this are very charming from the graphics to the inane comments by the passengers. You did a great job of realising a place with the train movement and sounds. It really does feel like a location in a much bigger game :D

Stealth Hobo by Thoastbot 2025-10-06T13:20:52Z

Neat game which very much fits the theme. I liked the scenes if you did or didn't collect enough trash. It's cool to see another JavaScript developer and I appreciate having the source code to learn from.

Only feedback which others haven't already given is that a fullscreen button might be nice. The default canvas size is a bit too tall for my screen resolution.

CLEAN UP THE TOWN! by Elfb0y 2025-10-06T12:42:05Z

A nice little game to get a high score in. I got 90 on my first attempt. Love the music, a lot of effort must have went into it. The way the trashcan follows you around by a string was neat.

My Little Castle by WouterK12 2025-10-07T13:30:17Z

The mechanics of filling up the pot with money and putting down new rooms was fun. I liked the medieval style that you were going for in the pixel art and music. I'm not sure what the best thing to do with the pot is. I just took it everywhere with me. Cool concept for a score attack game :)

Clean That Garbage! by robert18 2025-10-08T16:01:14Z

This is well put together with nice pixel art and gameloop. I did like the messages on all the memory bits and their different attributes. Those ints are nasty.

Collecting Dust by jacobwinters 2025-10-06T15:20:19Z

The concept and writing are amusing. I liked the minimalist pixel art, especially the cats on roombas. I wasn't certain what strategy there was as the roombas go in all directions. Still very nice for a compo entry.

The Glasses Shop by sudocoffee 2025-10-14T18:26:48Z

A very mysterious experience. I really liked the experience of unlocking vision of the level as you collect items. Also having to fall off the world to get one of the cubes was a neat touch. I feel like having objects be visible through each other could lead to some cool puzzles in further development of this idea. The ending was neat too, suddenly the world actually shifts on picking one up :D

Wavelength Collector by andriybyelikov 2025-10-12T15:26:20Z

Making a raytracer in pure JavaScript is very cool, you get some nice effects when you shine all three lights at the dome in the middle. I'll have to look at the code to work out what you did with the shaders.

Cats King by av_shustov 2025-10-06T14:47:15Z

Neat idea for an automation game. I did like watching the chains of cats flop around, the physics must've been a challenge. The artstyle is very minimalist and functional. Faster level progression would be nice for getting all the fishing spots.

Sticky Turtles! by Sevansevan 2025-10-06T14:53:36Z

This is a nice simple puzzle game idea. I like how minimalist the graphics are.

Interstellar Collector by Baluj 2025-10-08T16:11:49Z

I liked the mood you conjured up with the starry sky and meditative music. The abduction put me in mind of the space stage of Spore. It was fun exploring the solar system and hoovering up everything that lived there. I feel silly for trying to land on the great big yellow planet though :P

Collector's Coast by Liquid 2025-10-08T16:33:52Z

Oh awesome a city builder :D I really enjoyed the process of collecting resources to build a town. It put me in mind of the Anno series. The music was relaxing and I was impressed at the day/night cycle. The final artifact is a nice one. Only thing I found missing was some indication that you didn't have the resources necessary to build a building, otherwise well done!

Crane World by PilotTK 2025-10-06T15:42:29Z

A nice little quirky game. The claw is as fickle as a real life one would be and I liked the music getting slightly discordant. There are all kinds of things to find if you keep going to the edges of the world, I even found a legendary item :D

Fluff 'n Roll by CamComDuck 2025-10-06T17:18:53Z

Those are certainly some of the most normal sheep I have ever come across. Nice aesthetic with all the shape primitives. I do feel sorry for the sheep I got trapped on the edge of the map as it started bleating constantly. Fun!

Gamedud by Prunus Padis 2025-10-06T12:37:20Z

Interesting idea of what to collect, you did well to make so many different games within a game. The gameboy style graphics and sounds were very nice and nostalgic.

Afterlife Debt Collector by jscommander 2025-10-09T15:46:36Z

This is a really inventive idea for gameplay. The art was nice and I enjoyed the sound effects. The AI was pretty proficient so you had to duck and weave. Really well put together entry. I'm not sure but I might have cheesed the final level, am I meant to just run past the boss? :P Still excellent work.

KeyboardCollector by NoodleStorm 2025-10-07T12:35:29Z

Really nice idea of unlocking physical buttons on your keyboard as you progress. The music was very relaxing.

The Grande Concoction by Artificer 2025-10-08T16:58:01Z

The artstyle is really nice, I really like that low poly aesthetic with flat shading. The movement was fun and the spiral staircases made a nice level for running up and down. It was good when the pot spat out items to send them flying after all that effort to get them in in the first place.

Patent Troll by arkicade 2025-10-08T15:40:18Z

This is a great entry. I found the whole thing to be polished and well presented. The main gameplay mechanic is really original and I enjoyed the mad dash to claim similar pixels. Congratulations on managing to do all this within the 48hrs, you must've had a very good scope of what to include. Only other thing to say is that spamming down on every tile you could seemed to result in winning too easily. Otherwise congrats :D

Sewernir by plastus 2025-10-07T13:13:59Z

Cool idea for a gameplay mechanic. I liked the thorough tutorial and the dialog. The music was nice too, if a bit loud.

LD 58: Loot Collector by tweekus 2025-10-06T15:59:40Z

Good first entry, I see you are already adding gacha mechanics to your games :) I could see this becoming quite fun if you knew what could drop from different rarities of ball and had to gain a complete collection. The physics were good and you can make quite the pile of balls, neat!

LD59 — Signal

Misplaced by manabreak 2026-04-21T14:41:16Z

The introduction to the game is done really well with introducing the mechanics. The lighting up effect is really well done I have to wonder how you pulled it off. I did like the commentary the guy gives especially when you do silly things. The music is excellent and puts me in mind of some of the gameboy games. The platforming is a little bit to precise for my abilities but otherwise very cool :)

Drone Supervisor II Online by Jimbly 2026-04-20T08:47:02Z

Very technically impressive to make a multiplayer cooperative game that keeps running without the player. The tutorial was useful for learning the unique control elements. The interface was well laid out and I appreciate all the tooltips. There are cute musical beeps from the robots.

Game progression is slow making it something you check back on after a while. I can see that there is a very interesting crafting tree but I haven't gotten onto it yet. I'd love to see what a team of players are capable of given time.

Cool entry with a great aesthetic. I'll definitely have to check out the source code :)

Echo by japes 2026-04-21T13:28:13Z

Really cool effect with the sound wave reflecting off objects in the scene. It's challenging to identify a cross from a circle but it is possible. It's nice that it has an endless mode at the end of it. Very suitable execution of the theme :)

Twisted Pair by pfeyffer 2026-04-20T15:28:11Z

Awesome use of the tile patterns from Tsuro, I didn't think you could make a single player version of it :D The presentation is really nice with the tiles snapping into place and there being effects when a signal gets lost. The music and sound effects seem suitable and the instructions clear. Maybe have a level select screen but with only three puzzles it's not really needed.

Personally I'm very happy to see a project in vanilla JavaScript as it means there is much I can learn from the source code. Thanks for sharing this neat entry!

In the Crib by ruthiepee 2026-05-02T13:10:14Z

The art and sound design on this is just adorable. I especially liked the creative colouring in of the shapes. Good amount of assets for only 12 hours of work. While I didn't quite get 100% I did slowly work out what was desired, perhaps being able to click to delete items would have been helpful. Still a great way to introduce game development at an early age :)

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-20T08:59:38Z

@absolute-garbage Thanks, the levels are only in a rough order and you can jump around them. Thanks for checking out my itch page too I've got lots of little projects on it that I'm meaning to get back to :P

@msipp27 Ah that one is probably one of my favourites in terms of difficulty, thanks for playing up to that point!

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-20T11:20:45Z

@bambutcher Oh dear, we all have our off days :P still you managed to clear a whole lot of levels. Level 3 is a bit tricky considering how little space you have, perhaps I should have made that grid bigger. Thanks for playing :)

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-20T15:14:28Z

@pfeyffer Ah the good old 90s when computers were real computers and ran on coal :P

@glitchproduction Thank you for finding the difficulty level right. I did worry at how well explained each piece would be so I tried to introduce as many combinations as I could think of. Good luck on finishing it as the last few puzzles might(?) be possible. Do have a look at the sandbox mode though :)

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-20T17:55:46Z

@pres2300 Thanks I hope it was educational! I think the gameplay area might have been a bit on the small side for some of the puzzles as there is less room to turn wires to connect them. An undo feature would be very cool to have, it would take quite some coding though.

@wormkingboo Thank you I kind of leaned into the aesthetic with bright primary colours to the components. Someday I'd like to make an interface just like the one in early Windows.

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-21T12:57:05Z

@lcstark That's a commendable effort on the adder problem! I think I messed up implementing it as like you say there isn't a third bit to act as a carry flag. Whilst I did manage to complete it myself it was with an incomplete circuit, the tests don't check for overflow to a third bit.

Yeah in retrospect I could have done better by having a 1 bit half adder and then a full adder before the 2 bit one. I was rather flying by the seat of my pants in terms of implementing logic gates I knew about, with more time I would have come up with better ones.

The last few puzzles are, well, erm not very good. Pulser is a simple property of the update rules and then counter I'm not sure if can be implemented in the space available. Same goes for clock, you're better of making it in the sandbox mode.

I'm pretty pleased with the presentation thanks :) I would have loved to have some ambient music but I *still* haven't gotten into music composition, it's on the todo list!

Thanks for spending so much time with my entry, I'm happy to know there are people out there fascinated with logic gates like me :)

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-21T12:58:50Z

@tasakasama Thank you! I'm pleased with how the presentation came out even if it is very programmer art.

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-22T14:33:06Z

@bober Thank you, it's very much like the Zachtronics games where you are given tasks to complete as you see fit with modular building blocks. Yes more guidance on the harder levels would be good idea along with more intermediate puzzles. I'm glad you liked the melody :)

@deng Heh thank you for your support :D

@andriybyelikov Yes! these gates are the other kind of gate you can build everything out of which is very neat. I read a cool textbook called NAND to Tetris which built up a working computer from logic gates, my dream would be to make a game/sim where you can do the same.

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-22T17:58:26Z

@rafa-fiedo Glad you like it! I'm not sure why I went for white text on the start screen, I guess my thinking was the white highlighted it. I'll definitely look into changing that in the future.

@gubo Thanks, educational games are fun :)

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-22T19:15:28Z

@benskca having a readout of the test inputs and expected outputs was something I wanted to have but didn't have the time or screen space to add. I definitely want to add it in the future along with truth tables for more complex compound circuits. Nothing wrong with googling things as you still need to convert it into the right gates. Perhaps using a complex name was a mistake there. Thanks!

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-23T19:16:28Z

@cogcomp I'm glad it was easy to pick up. There is a lot of potential to the concept that I barely scratched the surface of. You could have all sorts of circuits as puzzles.

@avhatar Thanks for sticking with it. I find it helps a lot to actually see signals pass through gates to understand how they work. The best kind of puzzle games are those that can teach you something :D

@captaindreamcast Thanks! Those levels seem to be the most reasonable difficulty level as the later puzzles weren't really well thought out and I'll probably revamp them.

Ah you noticed that the levels get saved, excellent. I was very pleased to get that working and it lets you go back and see all your accomplishments. The live testing nature was really inspired by the Zachtronics games that do the same where you go through tests in turn with the suspense of whether they'll work or not.

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-28T13:02:42Z

@pimeko Thanks I was aiming to make it kind of educational. Some of the tools are a bit more complex so could do with a short intro text box yeah.

@criatura-nocturna Yep it goes through each permutation of the truth table :) If I had had more time I would have shown the truth tables on screen too.

Neat palette I could see myself using that in the future.

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-04-30T12:35:26Z

@jimbly Thank you, with more time I would have made the levels unlock in chunks as you're not the only one who was confused about the order. The splitter and crossing have some weird behaviour if put next to themselves or each other because they broadcast a signal to all neighbours. Gates not showing a connection to a splitter is a bug. The wire tool takes a bit of getting used to yeah, a little gif of how it acts would be nice to have. It would be better if there was a table showing what the expected outputs would be. Adder sounds like it was too confusing, it would have been better if I had swapped the positions of the low and high bits. Thanks for such detailed feedback and I'm glad you liked the animation of the circuits. Lots of stats to optimise would be cool and make it a proper Zack-like :D

@mikan Thanks! Oh dear I can only wonder what you thought of level 11 as the 3rd one... Congratulations on completing level 13, that is quite the achievement :D

Signal Circuits by Alex Mulkerrin 2026-05-02T12:54:25Z

@mikan Awesome :D Really nice to see how you solved the final puzzle with setting up a delayed gate to trim the input signal. First time someone has recorded a video of a game I made, thanks!

@ruthiepee Thank you, I did my best to introduce the elements one at a time and am happy to see people were able to puzzle it out. If I had more time I would have added more intermediate level puzzles as the last ones seem to have challenged lots of people.

Sound Signals by pres2300 2026-04-20T10:45:08Z

The idea of hunting sounds is novel and I like all the audio use in this game. The main character looking left and right in search as an idle animation is neat. Those red eyes on level 3 sure are spooky! I understand that the lack of landmarks is to make the search more difficult but having some would make exploring more interesting. I did enjoy the song at the end.

For what it's worth I didn't use headphones so might have been missing out on the directional cues. Still a neat game :)

Expanding Horizons by TermiGht 2026-04-21T14:08:42Z

There is a whole lot in this for a compo entry, very impressive. I really liked the aesthetics with the spacey music and planets orbiting around in the dark of space. It was neat to see planetary orbit alignment come up and made it something of a timing game. Incremental games are always nice, especially with a speedup button, if only there was a buy max button for factories and relays. The camera following was nice although it didn't stick around when you stopped focusing on a planet.

All in all a charming entry which fits the theme well :)

Highest in the world by CaptainDreamcast 2026-04-21T14:26:32Z

The voiceover was good as always and the artstyle was charming. I did find the controls very floaty on keyboard with No Hot Chicks Heaven being especially tough. Cool to know it could run on a Dreamcast too!

Signal Operator by TasakaSama 2026-04-21T13:17:08Z

The trains are nice and blocky which makes it fun to crash them >:D The second level has so many trains crossing that the best way to get through them seemed to be to send multiple trains at once and hope the first one cleared the way which is interesting to say the least!

The web version is set to use a smaller viewport size so that the edges of the screen with the destination totals are cut off. It's fine in the Windows build.

Valiant Stars by LCStark 2026-04-20T15:58:09Z

Oh neat a space RTS, my favourite :) The sprites and soundtrack are very nice and the units move about and fight in a satisfying way. The gameplay is quite subtle where you want to get into the enemies back line but to do so you expose yourself to attack in turn. The menus are decent and stylish.

If this was more than a compo entry I expect there would be more ship types and perhaps multiple signals. Still very impressive for a weekend's work and it is inspiring me to work on my own space RTS.

TURN SIGNALS by Sthor726 2026-04-20T07:47:05Z

A neat take on the likes of Subway Surfers with an added element of responding to moving obstacles. The music and visuals harken back to the PS1 in a very nice way although the scanline effect is a bit much. The controls being so intuitive and with you starting already on the road was very good.

I found that playing it safe and remaining in the middle lane unless passing and not trying to get all the coins was a solid strategy. I got 120 before crashing. Great entry, I could see this becoming a full fledged game with more features and ramping difficulty :)

Aye Aye, Can't See! by Avhatar 2026-04-23T19:48:08Z

Your experience really shines through in this as all the elements are top notch. The flickering on the screen is a cool effect and the ponderous nature of the ships really makes it standout. It was good to put in a video as it shows just how much content you put into the game. With more weapons and levels this really could be a fully fledged game. Always nice to see a setting inspired by 40K lore too :)

Antwork by Thoastbot 2026-04-20T08:20:11Z

Fantastic submission, truly impressive what you managed to accomplish with a weekend and only JavaScript!

Really happy to see someone is making an RTS like game which is very chill and about building up a network. The tutorial is good although I didn't realise the three ants together in the nest were an interactive button at first, perhaps having them a different colour from the inactive buttons could have helped.

The layered music is very nice and gave a reason to unlock all the ant types. The signalling mechanic is neat with you having to adapt your network for each additional ant colour unless you are lucky and get an ant of a single colour. Actually once you've branched off one colour pheromone ants with only one band of that colour are useful.

The mouse zoom was executed perfectly and there are just so many ants on screen with no slowdown. It might have been nice to have a minimap or more variation in the terrain to make it easier to tell where the camera was. The stat page is very indepth and could be used to get highscores.

Again it is amazing that this was made in such a short amount of time and is so fully featured, congrats :D

Broken Jukebox by Pimeko 2026-04-22T18:24:21Z

Very fun demonstration of the kinds of audio tweaking which is possible. It was fun having a moment when the song goes from unrecognizable to recognizable. I managed to get 30 people on the dance floor which is the same as everyone else so the difficult might be a bit too easy. Still fantastic work!

V.P.N. by torte478 2026-04-20T10:55:41Z

The vibes here are peak. The progression of the music with the gameplay is really well done and I enjoyed the explosion of new button alerts. The signal passing mechanic seems really neat and just wiring up the towers is engaging. The enemies make things a lot more frantic although once I had enough towers and connections I could ignore them and accrue points.

Perfect fit for the theme and completable in a good amount of time, very good :D

Finsternis by Jo Bettaque 2026-04-22T14:49:43Z

The artstyle is nice and I enjoyed the story from the AI assistant. Sadly on the browser based version I was getting a weird bug where the sound would stop playing when using wasd only to start up again but crackling when you stop pressing the keys.

Funnel World by andriybyelikov 2026-04-22T15:15:32Z

Having a raytracer and being able to dynamically adjust the resolution of it is very cool. Sadly I also couldn't make my way out of the first room even with people's spoilers.

Out of Signal RTS by quasilyte 2026-04-22T19:12:22Z

It's always a joy to see someone attempt something as challenging as an RTS in the compo and you've pulled it off so well. I really liked the idea of focusing on buildings and having units assigned to command centers. That and the constructions requiring resources to be sent over to them really put me in mind of the Perimeter games.

The art and music are excellent adding to a desolate feel. I don't know what kind of post processing effect you had on the screen but it was cool to see.

In my playthrough I found gold to be the most sought after resource as a single cyborg factory would use up nearly all your supply. Of course with that many cyborgs you could then steamroller everything :P

It was a bit slow to move the camera around so a clickable minimap would have helped or perhaps smaller grid squares. The buildings did seem to have a lot of space around them.

All in all one of the most impressive entries I've ever seen in the compo. If you ever change your mind about making a commercial RTS I would definitely play it :)

Downtown Signal by Absolute Garbage 2026-04-20T09:23:58Z

This is really well polished. I especially like the way the radio worked with signals popping up depending on time and date. I was managing alright until I heard of a boat at Staten Island, went to get on it and got killed by zombies...

The background hum was a bit annoying but that might have been the point. The voiceovers were very nice, impressive for AI audio generation.

Very good entry for keeping to the theme and the scene is very well put together with info and interactives, neat!

L.P.F. by elykx 2026-04-20T10:14:24Z

The presentation is really well done with all the hallmarks of early 3D engines. Inventive use of large animated sprites for the hands. The sound design is excellent in terms of being very unsettling to hear.

Beat the Signal by Fassenberg 2026-04-20T10:35:02Z

Good tutorial ingame which is always nice to see. The music is snappy and I like how the game elements move with it. The coins have a neat spinning animation and make nice tones on being picked up. Even though I'm not very good at dodging I still managed to stay alive a while, until I fell of the map that is.

Reflectogram by Mikan 2026-04-30T13:43:11Z

Really nice puzzle game, I felt the level's difficulty was just right with how new elements were introduced. I hadn't seen there be '?' clues in a game like this before which were interesting. I did like the extra element the different mirrors gave to the puzzles and the last level where you combine both were great. I feel like the limitations of the TIC-80 added character to this what with the chunky resolution and colour palette, very nice. Only thing I would want to add would be for levels to save what you put in them when you navigate to another, oh and more levels of course :D

Smoke Signals by WormKingBoo 2026-04-20T10:07:05Z

The pixel art and palette are really nice. Took forever to smoke a cigarette, I must be doing it wrong. I like how much coughing is going on and the other person just looks at you suspiciously.

Boba’s Love Story by ble 2026-04-20T09:35:49Z

Really striking artstyle with the low poly animals with no shading, Makes me think of Katamari. The drawing 'signals' is very intuitive although the star shape is a bit difficult to pull off. I really like how the story is expressed through music and actions not words. The bonus has a great shift in tone with the music :D

All in all a stellar entry and I could easily see it being extended into a bigger game with more environments and marks.

swpr by criatura_nocturna 2026-04-20T10:00:45Z

I really like what you did with the low resolution combined with the true to the source material colour palette and design. It is a novel remix of Minesweeper rules which works rather well. I didn't realise you had to click on the flags to neutralise them which seems like an extra step. You can set the field to be nothing but mines save a single square which is fun :P

Now I wish I had gone for the exact same colour scheme and window design, the nostalgia...

Social Signal by Yueyao Wang 2026-04-20T10:27:57Z

That is a really catchy tune and it suits the vibes of trying (and failing) to communicate. I liked how many different reactions to the wrong combinations there were. Hardest one was the second level as I didn't notice the teardrop at first. Really promising concept that was creatively used in the levels. I always like to see a game with simple intuitive controls :)

Signal Box! by Deng 2026-04-22T15:03:32Z

This is very good for a first time entry. The signal delay feature is a nice puzzle element and the graphics, although basic, do clearly show what is going on. I think the battle mechanic could be really fun if fleshed out.

Cell Clicker by Floonace 2026-04-20T09:48:43Z

The little animated cells are very nice. It requires a lot of clicking not to die and the energy requirements increase with the number of cells so I found myself stuck with lots of cells appearing and dying.

The concept is interesting and could be developed further with some balance. Sound effects were nice. I also had the game start to lag after awhile.

i love you, too by tolviere 2026-04-21T13:52:25Z

The dials were a really fun way to engage with the mechanics. I did struggle with getting the speed right as the wave stops moving whilst you turn it. It was cool to see such a fully featured oscilloscope and the sound cues worked well.

Dignal by Rafa Fiedo 2026-04-22T18:09:51Z

This is an excellently realised little gem of a game. The sound effects and graphics are charming and the gameplay is very easy to get into. The progression of voice lines was great to hear the first time. While the time limit is short I found that meant I easily wanted to play again. I thought the music was so nice I downloaded the repository to see how much longer it plays for :p A really good entry!

Buller than Bull by gubo 2026-04-21T14:12:13Z

Really short and sweet. The artwork is really well done and the timing is just right.

Inside a Sun by bonedaddy 2026-04-21T13:41:14Z

The sun boring mechanic was very unique and well done. I've never come across a game with a proximity detector in 3D so the extra dimension added a fun twist to triangulating it. Interesting story, I wonder why humans are so determined not to interact with aliens, seems a shame. It was amusing how close to the surface the stars core was for me. The looping sound effect was a bit weird but all in all a great entry :)
