LD55 — Summoning

Summoner Chess by seurimas 2024-04-16T03:33:40Z

That was a fun auto-battler! It got a little glitchy when doing the fast-forward, but still worked! It would've been fun to battle others immediately instead of having to get to the end again. Like an "arena" mode.

Also the idea of using rune text to share is a really clever idea, especially for a jam game

My final runes ᛃᛏᚠᚷᛏᚠᚱᚠᛉᛁᚠᚦᛏᚠᚡᚾᚱᛏᚠᛁᚠᚠᚱᚠᚱᚦᚢᚦᛏᚠᚡᚾᚷᚡᚠᚦᛏᚠᚱᚠᛉᛖᚠᚠᛏᚠᛏᚺᚢᚠᚠᚦᛏᚾᚢᚢᚱᚡᚢᚠᛏᚠᛇᛁᚷᚠᚠᚦᛏᚾᚣᚠᚢᚺᚠᚺᚱᚨᚺᚠᚢᛏᛗᛚᚠᚨᛚᚠᚦᚺᚠᚧᛚᚦᚱᚠᚢᚡᛚᛇᛏᚠᚱᚠᛗᚤᚢᚦᛏᚠᛇᛁᚷᛏᚠᚦᚠᚹᚩᚠᚦᚺᚠᚧᚱᚷᛚᚠᚢᛏᚠᚦᚠᚱᚲᚠᚢᚺᚠᚷᚲᚠᚺᚠᚢᚠᛖᚠᚠᚠᚱᚠᛗᚦᚠᚦᛏᚠᛇᛁᛉᚡᚢᚷᛏᚠᚱᚠᚾᛖᚢᚠᛏᚠᛇᛁᚲᚺᚠᚦᛏᚱᛈᚠᚠᚺᚠᚷᛜᚦᚠᚠᚢᚡᛚᚺᛏᚠᚱᚠᚾᚦᚢᚠᛏᚠᛇᛁᛚᚠᚢᚷᛏᚠᚱᚠᛇᚤᚠᚱᛏᚠᚱᚾᚱᛏᚠᚦᛏᚱᚾᚠᚦᚺᚠᛖᚱᛃᚠᚢᚱᛏᚠᚦᚠᚹᚣᚠᚦᚺᚠᚧᚱᚦᚱᚠᚢᚠᛗᚱᚠᚢᚱᚠᛉᚤᚠᚱᛏᚠᚡᚾᚲᛏᚠᚦᚠᚹᛈᚠᚢᚺᚠᚧᛚᚦᚱᚠᚢᛏᛗᛏᚢᚨᚱᚠᚦᚺᚠᛚᚱᚢᚱᚠᚢᚡᛚᚷᛏᚠᚱᚠᛇᛁᚠᚦᛏᚠᛇᛁᚨᛏᚠᚦᚠᚲᚾᚠᚦᚺᚠᛚᚱᛈᚧᚠᚢᛏᚠᚦᚠᚲᚾᚠᚢᚺᚠᚷᛜᚢᚱᚠᚢᚠᛗᚺᚠᚢᚱᚠᛁᚤᚠᚱᛏᚠᚺᚾᚱᚺᚠᚦᛏᚾᚾᚠᚦᚺᚠᛚᚱᛊᚠ

Spring Must Come by muriel 2024-04-16T03:51:17Z

That was really fun! The first few levels felt a bit too easy but once it got later on (especially the equilibrium level and the few after it) were very challenging but in a good way!

It would be really cool to polish this up! Could be a fun puzzle game to release

Runes Summoner by PatBGames 2024-04-20T16:02:45Z

That was a fun puzzle game! The difficulty ramped up a little too slowly in my opinion, but some of the later levels got really tough especially when I would accidentally slide a piece to get the skull in the right position.

Mana Delve by Alex Mulkerrin 2024-04-15T21:39:49Z

I got really confused at first and mined out the whole level only to run out of other mana. It would maybe be helpful to have a little info about what each tower generated? Like I know what a certain tower costs but I didn't know how much it generated so I would guess and place too many / too few and run out of many.

That said this feels like it could be a really fun little puzzler game! The concept of balancing a bunch of different resources is really solid and even though it was a little tough this was a quality entry!

Fiend-Zone by gord10ahmet 2024-04-18T03:01:28Z

That was pretty fun! A few of the fiends were a little annoying to deal with since I would run into something which would slow me down and then I'd get stuck which felt pretty frustrating. It kinda felt like the enemies were "sticky"

It seemed intentional but was still annoying. That said, the concept was really cool! I liked the idea of fiends doing things that wasn't necessarily harmful to the player directly but still hampered my progress.

Arise, QWERT! by niterich 2024-04-19T03:30:59Z

That was a pretty cool survivors-like! It felt a little easy once I found out a good summon, so maybe a way to weaken or discourage spamming one demon would help with variety?

Sminer by LightningST 2024-04-18T02:15:21Z

The digging animation and effects are so satisfying! I really struggled to plan out where/how to dig and also pay attention to the top right. That said the digging was fun enough to keep me interested!

High School of Conjuration by fumybulb 2024-04-18T03:28:28Z

wow that last level was intense! Had a really good feeling of "just one more try" each time I almost beat the level.

The controls really felt a bit too stiff to be satisfying though. I did like the idea of forcing you to stop and summon the copies though, that made a lot of situations really stressful in a good way!

Cthulhu Defense by Flying Dog Fish 2024-04-16T00:23:54Z

Fun TD! when it got going fast I was worried I was gonna lose but managed to get to the win screen! I really liked the idea of "locking in" your tower choice. It made me prioritize upgrading certain towers after I realized which ones were placed in the best spots.

Parts of the audio was a bit too difficult to listen to for me being so repetitive, a volume slider would be helpful to turn some down

12 Vengeful Ghosts by DecadeDecaf 2024-04-18T02:35:32Z

Awesome submission! I got stuck on level 8, I just couldn't beat those side-to-side patterns. It was so fun though! I loved the art.

Also thank you a ton for including a volume slider! I love being able to listen to the music in jam submissions but it's usually so loud at 100%. Thanks to that slider I could appreciate the great music

Graveyard Kerfuffle by Lone_Wolf 2024-04-20T02:47:22Z

That was pretty fun! It felt like a really polished and complete game loop. Also thank you a ton for including a volume slider!

The inclusion of customization was super unexpected and fun. I also thought the indirect summoning was a funny inclusion and made for some frustrating (in a good way) situations trying to get the zombies to move around just right. It maybe could've been a little bit more difficult

Graveyard Kerfuffle by Lone_Wolf 2024-04-20T15:55:14Z

@lone-wolf no, I didn't see anyone else's zombies or names. I did get a console error saying that "blocking mode is not supported for the web platform" and I did indeed play on the web version. Playing on Firefox. Happens every time I open the game but other than no names visible, everything else works totally fine for me

Athention, Please! by fnelix 2024-04-19T02:29:49Z

That was super fun! That was a really clever idea and right when I thought "eh this is a little too easy" it got real complicated with the 3-set rules! I only got to level 5 before messing up a vote by 1.

Some of the rules around hair color were a bit hard for me though, especially brown vs black hair. Maybe if they had different hairstyles that could help a bit!

Capture the King by ZEN 2024-04-19T01:57:41Z

Super cool concept! It felt a little easy when I tried stacking rooks and found they they would pretty quickly shoot to the backlines and take out the king. However even then sometimes the piece AI would be a bit troublesome and not choose the optimal move, which I thought added to the tension and kept it fun!

Really quality idea and great execution on it!

Devilish Delivery by ABRDs 2024-04-16T02:48:36Z

Always love a game with a goofy cursor mechanic.

That was a fun game! I was staring at the crystal hoping it would pop right before the timer went off so many times. so satisfying dropping the last one with a few seconds left. It would be fun to have something to do to help speed up the crystal or portal to give you a little more control over things

A Conversation with My Crush by frances 2024-04-15T18:19:04Z

That was super clever! I like the interpretation of the theme. Very unique idea!

The "slingshot" part of the game felt a little too simple but the fun dialog and theme made up for it

Necrocraft by Moonblast 2024-04-15T18:55:49Z

Fun game! I really like the idea of placing down the various pieces to create attributes for the summoned monsters. The art on the menus and characters was also really good!

It would be nice to have an in-game way to mute the audio. It was quite loud for me and I had to mute the whole tab.

Steel Showdown by nicorm 2024-04-20T02:34:57Z

That was a great submission! It felt fun to play! I thought the tank + tons of ranged units felt a bit too overpowered, but it was fun to do stuff like drop in a tiny unit right as a bomb unit was about to attack a tower.

The art looked super good too!

The Blinding of Isaac by Cymusi 2024-04-20T16:23:56Z

That was a really tough game but had some really clever designs in it. At first I was pretty confused what to do. I thought the idea of hiding the recipes was really cool in theory, but I could see it being really frustrating if you didn't know to look for that. Maybe a scripted event of like a lightbulb coming on to illuminate the area could help point players in the right direction?

Once I got to all 3 things to play as my brain was struggling to move everything at the same time (in a fun way imo). Having each thing contribute a different skill to the puzzle solving was really cool! Really quality puzzle game created in a short time!

Summoner's Dilemma by sudocoffee 2024-04-16T00:37:06Z

Dang that was tough, but I made it to floor 3 for about 2 seconds before running out of mana.

Really interesting game though! It was fun to try and think up ways to live longer each time. I settled on quickly surrounding two pots with all the sprouts to try and get at least two flowers per floor. I also didn't really understand how the clock and orb worked, like was it number of clocks/orbs on the floor or ones I stood next too? Would've been helpful to have something to the side saying like "Currently -50% mana drain" or some other indicator to explain that

Battle of the Serifs by CamD67 2024-04-19T16:59:37Z

Thanks everyone for the great feedback everyone! I appreciate everyone taking the time to play my first LD entry. It really does mean a lot to me to see all the kind words

The balance was for sure in the players favor. Turns out that making sufficiently smart AI takes a lot more time than I had in the compo with everything else happening.

Boneworks by Imbajoe 2024-04-15T18:40:36Z

Really fun but really hard game. It would be nice to have a quick restart button in like a pause menu since once the enemy starts to overtake your resources it's gameover with not a lot you can do about it. Or a way to comeback from that situation!

Diemancer by WorldOfMush 2024-04-15T19:28:40Z

Super fun game! Agreed with others, a "Skip" button in the shop would be nice.

I got a 1275 but I feel like I could've gotten more. stuck with gargoyles and frankensteins which felt good but I didn't feel like I saw better ones in the shop.

ExorSketch by Benjamin Jaeger 2024-04-16T00:14:41Z

Really cool idea! The drawing mechanic was fun and easy to use once I started using the 1-5 keys frequently to show me the patterns. I did find myself starting more at the pentagram to focus on drawing rather than looking up at the battlefield. Maybe it would be nice to have the drawing be done at the summoning area?

I got around to score 1000 before I stopped summoning, then around 1400 the enemies started glitching around the screen.

Also thank you for including a volume slider! I wish every game jam included that.

Great first jam entry!

Summoner´s ritual by josang1567 2024-04-16T03:57:53Z

That was a cool creature generator! It would've been nice to do something with them after like watch them roam around a world together doing things.

The song was really fun to listen to!

The Wizard Games by nickCherns 2024-04-15T19:06:54Z

Fun simple game! I thought it was really fun and the announcement audio at the start was so great.

It would be cool to increase the attack of the enemies though, it never felt like I was in "danger" and more just mashing combos as quick as I could (which was still fun) Also high score of 1900

Summon & Chill by Flogram 2024-04-19T01:46:42Z

So chill, and it feels like a pretty complete experience! I really liked how if you got a bunch of words lined up you got a big accent sound. That was super satisfying.

I do think a little visual / effect flair would be nice as the summoning progressed. Like some sort of gradual background gradient shift from black -> red.

Jury Summons - When Duty Calls by Warren Fisher 2024-04-16T00:02:37Z

That was a really enjoyable time! The goofy music and wacky art worked really well together to make a really funny and good-feeling game. I for sure forgot some of the facts on the client which lead to some difficulty in narrowing down clients, but in a good way!

For sure one of the most unique interpretations of the theme I've seen which is awesome!

Jelly Rush by joniv 2024-04-15T19:40:25Z

That was a super fun game, I really liked how the "tutorial" was well integrated into the game. felt like I really understood the mechanics despite no long wall of text explaining it!

The ending was super cute too
