LD55 — Summoning

Infernal Conquest by bloodyaugust 2024-04-15T08:29:43Z

Honestly, a really cool game! I got totally overwhelmed at the start, but then I got the hang of it and rolling over those foolish rival demons was really fun. The different unit types are cool, and keeping battlefield awareness is definitely a challenge for the demon horde commander :D

In case you tinker more with this in the future: - I think if the resource value was more central, it's easier to keep an eye on it. - Make the countdown to the next summoning more dramatic as it gets close to completion: Gives the player a chance to scramble and maybe not miss the entire summon round ;) - Start the camera on the player's side: Being a central European, I assumed I am on the left side, troops moving right, which gave me a bit of a false start the first time around. - Add little tidbits I can influence on the central map: Maybe a held city can spend some resources for a boon and heal the next N demons, or something.

Runic Distractions by 1y1e 2024-04-15T10:23:01Z

Very cool idea and the mood and setup was all around perfect for me :D

Unfortunately, using my QWERTZ keyboard didn't quite work, even though I selected it. The Y and Z were switched and the - was also elsewhere.

Let's Cook Enough by aviktorov 2024-04-17T14:58:27Z

A really cool twist on the kitchen chaos game genre mixed with the summoning theme. I do wish there were a bit more structure to it, for example you end up summoning a lot of random creatures when all you want is a certain magic circle. The music if a nice counterpoint to the chaos that ensues, but it would definitely be even funnier if you were running to different corners of the map to get the stuff you need, while things are in the way and time is tight.

Also, please let me throw things and creatures in the lava! :D

Let's Cook Enough by aviktorov 2024-04-17T15:18:50Z

@TessKallet I see! Also, you can jump in yourself :D very cool. Also managed to get the lose screen now by repeatedly shoving uncooked creatures in the slot. Very nice details :)

Nexus by denvil 2024-04-18T15:33:28Z

I like the idea and it looks great! The world below, the obscure machines, the avatar: All very cool. The gameplay really falls down in the action department. The little messages do help and are quite funny sometimes, but while you're just making enough money to get more summons you have nothing to do and it takes very long. Maybe it would get better if everything was just really fast, so it has you kind of scrambling and prioritizing?

Anyway, a solid entry, I hope you had fun! :)

Runes Summoner by PatBGames 2024-04-15T10:48:08Z

This is addictive. The number of levels where you only have one skull to neutralize are perfect to get the feel for it, and then the real challenge begins, where you are really moving a bunch of columns. What worked well for me was to pick a symbol to focus on ASAP and then just plan the moves with the remaining time of the symbols visible. I did OK, but I'm definitely a bit tired for this :D

Mana Delve by Alex Mulkerrin 2024-04-17T09:26:43Z

Okay, this hurt my brain a bit, but it was kind of addictive. I enjoyed it, but definitely haven't mastered it! It's tricky to plan out your mana right at the moment, but it's just super satisfying to play around with. The sound for clicking crystals is very rewarding :D adds to the addictiveness, I think. Well done!

Depths of Hell by pres2300 2024-04-15T08:35:49Z

Very cool, welcome to Godot :D the game is tough! I though I had a really good handle on moving and shooting until the big guy downstairs showed up the first time. Never have I wanted a dodge more! This is a cool base: Build on it and experiement. Hope you enjoyed the process!

Nose Deep In A Book by Yorsh 2024-04-15T08:56:40Z

What an awesome game. No notes. Except maybe that the noises eventually led me to pity my amnesiac summoner a bit too much :D

Don't press the big red button by Rakowu 2024-04-15T10:03:24Z

Was a fun little game, though the title is very misleading ;D my little room was piling pretty high with frozen corpses, when I realized I don't just get potions, I also get score! Cool art and a great audio cue, letting the player know something is descending. Not that we need it. It's not like we'd press the button.

Summoning Ritual by velvetlobster 2024-04-18T15:22:50Z

A heartbreaking and heartwarming little title. I really like how it tells a story in pictures. The platforming is a bit incidental, but it definitely works to pace and deliver the story.

the call of the rats by coatline 2024-04-18T15:09:27Z

This is hilarious. Thanks for making this. No notes.

The Alumnus Of Darkness by mremmele 2024-04-15T09:37:47Z

I suck at this game xD I wish there was a bit more I could do to survive or influence the fight, but I appreciate the pure summoning vibe. Movement feels great, the game looks beautiful and I am really impressed by this being done in a custom game editor. I think I'm just a bit too tired after this weekend, to make it far in the level :D

Oil Creatures by krakadushka 2024-04-18T15:49:59Z

This is a really great game and feels very mature. Once I got that I could click and drag to place in an arc, I started making some real progress, too. The collectible oil was a little unclear sometimes, but really I would have had no complaints, if, in the heat of the end of the battle against the final stage, I had not accidentally clicked restart in the top right. I am truly heartbroken xP please add a confirmation dialogue, or put that in a menu behind ESC.

SLEEP PARALYSIS by Dinoraz 2024-04-15T09:46:12Z

Man, this game clicked with me: A lot of fun, crazy ramping up of attacks, and three significantly different options to build my defenses. Good stuff!

Tiny Terror: Cradle of Souls by byazzle 2024-04-15T08:16:11Z

Very fun, very tricky little game! Getting the bounce took me really off guard the first time, but the second run when I got one, it was immediately super useful and game changing. There seems to be a lot here, and it's very tough :D Rob is clearly an Elder God, or something.

Viral Assault by Scribbl_Games 2024-04-15T10:36:18Z

Had a lot of fun and got quickly hooked, but I couldn't play for long because the overall effect was making me a bit woozy. That aside everything's there for a fun time. If you ever expand on it: More turrets would be cool, and since the turrets already target you, it would be cool to activate a mode where you draw their fire directly, since their prediction of an enemy's position isn't very good, to direct fire at a point of your choice.

Cool stuff!

Summon the Armada by Andreas Decker 2024-04-15T10:09:36Z

Thanks so much for playing!

I had left audio in because my exhausted brain thought it would be funny, since sound doesn't travel in space, but my foggy but less tired brain now says: You'd still hear sounds in your own vessel. Either way, I took it out of the ratings.

The velocity issue is not something I could fix at 2 AM last night, unfortunately, but I have several good ideas on how to tackle it now. I won't change stuff because of COMPO rules right now, but I will be releasing a new version on itch when I have it. If there are any new builds there, they will be marked "non-compo".

Commenting here after rating is a great way to get me to play and rate your games, by the way, to anyone reading this ;)

Summon the Armada by Andreas Decker 2024-04-15T10:37:48Z

@lakea @patbgames yeah, the collisions are an issue. Momentum is preserved, but shouldn't be. Couldn't quite get a wrap on that for the Compo deadline, but I'll definitely revisit this one in the future and round off some of those edges.

Summon the Armada by Andreas Decker 2024-04-15T10:50:27Z

@rakowu haha, yeah, in a way one follows that arrow automatically :D The maximum speed is a good idea! It's on my short list of stuff to do, because going too fast isn't ideal for physics, and I want to make levels with more open space.

Summon the Armada by Andreas Decker 2024-04-18T16:17:36Z

@krakadushka you mean a restart button for during the game? That's a good idea. I definitely want to have a menu. In your game I actually failed my almost victorious run by accidentally hitting the on-screen restart button :D

@denvil maybe you missed the Shift key activating the scanner. This zooms out and shows where enemies can see you, and it's color coded: Red will always see you, and yellow will only see you if you have not "gone dark".

@willhoit that was my thought, too. I have an expansion planned wherein you can choose a weapon from a loadout, but it would only contain one or two shots. I much prefer just being outgunned and having to get past by your wits alone, so I may leave the weapon out entirely.

@coatline @josion thanks for the feedback! I have to say I am very married to the idea of inertial movement, but I do plan to add a loadout selection, and one of them is a reverse booster, which will allow you to brake without turning. Maybe that'll help :D

Welcome to the club, @ooboob xD

Thanks so much to everyone for playing, and for the feedback! I try to play all games of the people who reviewed me and leave a review. If I haven't left one, it's probably because there was only a Windows build, and I currently don't have a Windows machine. If you add an HTML5 or Linux build, hit me up again here and I will catch it up!

Summoning for Dummies by Ilinx 2024-04-15T11:20:47Z

Thanks for the web upload. A very cool game! I really like the graphics, the silhouettes are a good idea for this. I'm slightly lacking the game's friction: Am I missing a timer or can something go wrong? Really like the speech bubbles, too :D

Grand Court Summons by Frib 2024-04-17T09:44:43Z

Amazing music, fun funky car handling, and unexpected verticality in the map! Visually my only complaint is that the vertical textures flickered a lot and it may have been fairly simple to give the little pill people a head, so you could have random "outfit" colors and random skin colors. Would maybe make your target distinguishable when they walk into a cluster :D

The game was really fun, I love that you can get some air, and it's a cool take on the theme. When I was looking for Fyodor the arrow apparently led me to a bunch of innocents before it led me to the target, which makes it seem a bit like I wasn't sure *which* Fyodor was meant, and had me killing all Fyodors in town for good measure. 3 unsanctioned kills and one sanctioned kill seems a fine ration, or not? ^^

Glorble Brawl by aou 2024-04-15T09:05:43Z

Trodorf! Noooooooo! If I get my hands on the Glorble that took out Trodorf, it won't be pretty.

Very fun game, no notes :D

Diemancer by WorldOfMush 2024-04-15T09:24:56Z

Really enjoyed playing this, I think the dice have a lot of potential, and was already fun to play with. I was initially annoyed that I HAD to pick a new dice face, even if I liked my die, but then I realized that it opened me up to a new strat and the game had to force me to do so. Very nice!

I think if you wanted to take this further: Being able to etch multiple different dice and then pick how many of each you want to roll could be really interesting. Also, more interaction between the dice could be cool, and maybe environmental effects (i.e. my undead dice won't be as strong here, better roll more of my demonic dice, or however I etched my dice).

Summon Swarm by Talopic 2024-04-15T08:41:25Z

I won! Being so focused on the left, effectively drawing runes, was interesting as the right slowly became more blue, but I didn't dare take my eyes off the summoning to check out the battle raging. Cool idea, cool game!

Endless Engagement by OobOob 2024-04-17T09:34:41Z

An interesting entry, I got a good start right away, but quickly stumbled on directing troops. I originally thought that I directed them with a second click right after choosing a summon, and I assumed there just wasn't a visual indication. Later, when my donut was being assaulted, I ended up realizing I can actually direct troops and workers! Definitely made for a different run, though directing didn't seem super reliable.

Perfectly usable programmer art, cool little soundtrack. A fun little game :)

Summoner's Song by NamespaceV 2024-04-15T10:30:36Z

I'm terrible at this :D would love a clearer indication of when a hit registers, but otherwise fun, challenging and quite intuitive.

Lil Lads Hit the Notes (Or fall into lava and they don't want that) by Josion 2024-04-18T15:27:41Z

Fun little game, it took me a moment to get what was happening, but it was fun finding out and even more fun when I knew what was happening. The musical element is really, really cool!
