Impressive for the working of a RPG framework, especialy the dialogue bubble express many mood and make the game vivid. Finally I find "Pa", this is the end of game right?
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD55 → the call of the rats

Found Pa, fun little story!
I loved the clouds shadows floating across the ground, the dialog transition and screen, and text styling, oh and the rat eating animation. Quite a bit of detail and juice has gone into this for a short jam.
Shooting mechanics felt good. Having to physically turn to aim felt a bit awkward at first but I got used to it pretty quick, and then I quite like the more deliberate approach of having to line up instead of just spinning my mouse around to aim.
@justuspan That is the end, thanks for playing!
@magnusfurcifer Thanks for playing! I felt that the least number of controls necessary would make for a more pleasant experience.
You actually came up with a pretty interesting story game with cut-scenes and everything. Very impressive! I thought the animations of the little guy with his hat and the one that took off his glasses to show them was a nice touch. Also, eating rats raw is just wrong, so you should have had a fire for the poor little guy to at least cook them over. Other than that it was a fun experience!
Not a very long story but quite satisfying. I think the rat killing could've been a bit more of challenge a bit of a stopper so that not everyone can make it to the end :laughing: That a side, nice game!
Solid entry for the compo. Having a full little story that is complete is nice.
The combat with rats could be a little bit longer, I wanted more! Gathering rats holding space instead of pressing space for every one of them would be nicer.
@coatline You have the beginnings of a very nice RPG game. You could probably cut down on all of the conversation, but other than that it was good.
Movement felt nice, gun felt impactful. Gameplay was pretty short and simplistic. I loved how polished the dialogue felt though. Overall great entry!
You have a knack for writing. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Also the dialogue system was cool!
This is hilarious. Thanks for making this. No notes.
Nice game. I liked the art, and the wavy dialogues!
I loved every second of this game! It was completely full of character. The various text effects baked into the dialog system and the various sounds and poses the characters would make were great touches. Congrats on making this for the compo!
Managed to find Pa! The plot twist at the end was great.
Anyway, awesome game! All the little animations and sound effects were so cool, really made the world feel alive even with the very simplistic art style. I loved the writing here too! I don't really have any feedback, it was just a nice and very polished experience with a surprising amount of content. Overall, amazing entry!
Great humor and punchline at the end. If only we all could be so civic minded
Fun little story, I really liked the little sounds in the game, had some nice jokes. There felt like sometimes I could skip/fast forward text but sometimes I couldn't, do wish that was more consistent as I just started skipping text
@recursor you've never tried raw rat. it's not bad.
@cogcomp I agree I probably spent a little too much time on the shotgun just to use it a single time. (and I think rat hords would be pretty fun too)
@daniboygg I agree, more interaction between the rats and the player would have for sure been more engaging (not to mention that you only use the shotgun once). Here's a secret: you don't even have to kill any of the rats at the end to win the competition.. (I didn't have time to add that I just assumed the player would kill them). But I agree, picking them up seemed right and it was annoying to have to spam the interact key.
@beebster-games Thanks for the kind words. It is certainly a bit wordy at times, agreed.
@quinnster Thanks! The dialogue system was my main innovation for this jam.
@bradur Glad you liked it!
@andreas-decker Thanks :laughing: @thomas-bringer Thanks, the built in BBCodes for RichText in Godot made the wavy text easy!
@decadedecaf Haha thank you for the kind words!
@frogman Thanks for playing to the end - I'm glad you liked it! Giving the game personality/life was my main challenge especially after I committed to the low-res top-down style.
@imbajoe That's what I'm saying! :laughing:
@bitlytic Thanks for playing! Yes, I agree with you, good point. I flagged too many as unskippable, especially for a jam game.
Cool entry! Definitely had a lot of personality, especially with the text effects. The shotgun felt good to use, just wish there was a few more opportunities to use it. It would've been nice if you could speak to the NPCs multiple times to repeat their dialogue, just in case you accidentally skipped what they were saying. Really enjoyed it overall, great job!
I loved the text effects in the dialogue
- Very ascetically pleasing, fun experience - I was a bit weird to aim with keyboard and shoot with mouse, I think kit would be better to have aiming and shooting on the same device. - The rats could be a bit slower and stop closer to the player for a better illusion. - A faster walk, smaller walking distance or a sprint could be nice. The distances weren't too big and it wasn't too bad, but I did feel like I wished I got to where I was going a second faster, since there wasn't anything interesting on the way.
Very nice polished game. It's got all the elements of a full fledged Zelda style adventure game, with great attention to detail. It would be nice to have more challenging puzzles. Having to press both the left and right button to shoot feels a bit pointless, especially since it doesn't work on my touchpad. Sometimes I could skip dialogue turns, sometimes not, is that a bug? I found the speech sounds a little annoying sometimes.
I got flashbacks to Startropics. :smile:
Such nice text effects!
