LD55 — Summoning

Let's Cook Enough by aviktorov 2024-04-19T20:20:45Z

Nice game. I really liked the art style and the overall mood. I found it quite difficult to interact with the portals sometimes as they kept spawning close together or near other interactables. Nice take on the theme. Good job :)

Turret Queen by leparlon 2024-04-18T22:25:39Z

I had fun with it. I liked the idea of creating the turrets with the different powerups, although I wasn't too sure what each did, or how they worked when combining multiple types, but that didn't get in the way of it being fun.

Perhaps being hit could destroy a single turret instead of having to start over, and instead of having multiple lives, the turrets could act as health?

I found it super interesting reading about how you developed the game and can imagine it being fun playing around with creating the different waves. Nice to hear that you achieved your personal goals with it. Good job!

Welcome to the Summoner's Shop by citsua 2024-04-20T13:26:41Z

Excellent entry! Nailed the theme and the atmosphere. The book felt very polished, but I do think it would have been nice to be able to pin the ingredients / ritual instructions to the UI.

Mixing was a fun mechanic, although I think it would be better to click the ingredient tab to open it, rather than it automatically opening when you hover over it. There were a few times I accidentally clicked the top ingredient because of this.

Having a few more items to pick up would help make exploration feel more worthwhile. Currently it feels like it's only really there to avoid softlock. Otherwise, sleeping and checking the shop the next day always felt like the better option.

The camera felt a bit jittery, although that could just be the web version.

I really liked the characters, all the customers and demons had unique personalities. The character interactions had a lot of charm to them.

I enjoyed the summoning rituals too. Getting feedback for each step helped both the atmosphere of the game and the player quality of life.

Overall I'm very impressed, all my critiques are minor quality of life suggestions. I enjoyed playing it enough to finish the game. I think there's a lot of potential here, great job! :)

the call of the rats by coatline 2024-04-19T21:21:48Z

Cool entry! Definitely had a lot of personality, especially with the text effects. The shotgun felt good to use, just wish there was a few more opportunities to use it. It would've been nice if you could speak to the NPCs multiple times to repeat their dialogue, just in case you accidentally skipped what they were saying. Really enjoyed it overall, great job!

The Summoners by digital bacon 2024-04-20T10:54:44Z

Nice entry. I'm a fan of Slay the Spire and am impressed with what you've made within the timeframe. It seems most of my critiques are things you're already aware of and are working on (health bug, balance). I also noticed the new game button doesn't work after beating the final boss (on the web version at least). Overall a really solid entry and I would definitely play a post-jam version. Great job!

Necrocraft by Moonblast 2024-04-19T22:08:02Z

Really cool entry! Interesting battle system, nice mix of puzzle and strategy. My main critique would be to add a bit of feedback for when the player gets hit, and to add some feedback for when you run out of mana. It took me a while to figure out why I couldn't place any runes. Other than that, really fun game once I'd worked everything out. Great job!

Ancestor Rain by ELLISBUG 2024-04-19T19:31:36Z

Really enjoyed playing this. Interesting take on the theme and felt rather atmospheric. I liked that there were multiple difficulties, but as others have said, would have liked the notes to follow the pitch of the flute a bit, as well as the rhythm.

I accidentally stumbled across the music select screen, which was a really nice touch. The message on that screen disappeared a bit too quickly so I wasn't sure of the controls. (That's a very minor nitpick though) Overall great job!

Hole-ly Shift by wo_ri_gou_le 2024-04-19T20:52:10Z

Cute sprites, I liked the little animation when you pick them up. There's definitely potential here for a cute little game. Huge respect for going in solo and seeing it through to the end, despite it not going to plan :)

Campo by Braulio_JG 2024-04-19T22:48:42Z

Nice entry. Planting/harvesting the seeds to gain abilities was an interesting take on the theme. I made it to the end with only using the pumpkins as you can just jump over all the enemies, so maybe tweaking the jump height or enemy height would make using the abilities more essential?

One other thing I noticed is the UI sometimes covers the platforms you're jumping to. Perhaps making it slightly translucent would help?

Regardless, I enjoyed playing it and can see good potential in the mechanics. Great job!

Summoner's Speakeasy by HollowBearGames 2024-04-19T18:43:06Z

Echoing the other comments here. Very nice aesthetic and cool soundtrack, but the gameplay was quite confusing. As others have stated, a tutorial and more feedback would have greatly helped. I do like the premise, focusing on the victims of the summons was an interesting take on the theme. Nice entry :)
