Nice work! Impressive that you were able to put this together in 48 hours.

d-omino 2025-10-05 23:14

Cool idea, plenty of space to develop and i really like sounds. but sorry i don't get an end of game or I just didn't get how to finish it

maytch 2025-10-05 23:17

@d-omino Thanks! I didn't get time to put in a proper end to it, but there's a % completed above the collection window. It's not the clearest of winning conditions, but if you collect one of each monster type you see, it'll reach 100%

bad-fetus 2025-10-06 01:26

Had a good time with this, always fun to play a monster collector. The only thing I didn't like was the "big mush" - got stuck there for a long time because I didn't realise it was a separate monster to the "mush". Only a minor issue though, still had fun.

Very impressed with the graphics - how did you achieve the "scrolling" effect? Is it all 2D with custom calculations or is it actually a 3D scene with sprites? Looks very cool in either case!

The art combined with the perspective is somehow satisfying. Reminds be of Octopath Traveller.

There is a lot to like here. Quite a feat to get this done for a Compo!

dhim 2025-10-06 07:20

Whaou, that's a super polished entry!

- I love the aesthetic, the low-angle camera is really nice, and the 2d sprites work really well. - movement is butter smooth - the UI is way too small on my screen, I can't read anything.

Nice to see you have used GitHub during the development process of the game. I have collected a few tricks to make the repos shinier

maytch 2025-10-06 08:10

@bad-fetus Thanks! It's a 3D scene where the sprites look at the camera. It's a bit quicker than a 2D effect! And yeah good point about the mushrooms, hadn't thought about that.

@dhim Thanks for the help with the github repo! I tried to keep it restricted to the smaller size but when you resize it, they do get too small! The smallest is 12px font size.

dhim 2025-10-06 09:40

"Click keys to Re-bind" is fine in terms of size, but "the summon..." is too small. 11pt, which is 15px, I think, is the minimum recommended. For reference the "Combat" is 16px.

Also, super cool feature to being able to remap on the fly!

maytch 2025-10-06 09:52

@dhim Ohh interesting, they're closer in size on mine! I wonder why that is. Still smaller than the 16px, but it does say 12px in game.

Hmmm, I had some issues with pixel density in a previous game jam... maybe that is the issue. I am on a macbook/chrome, in the console: devicePixelRatio -> 2

alex-mulkerrin 2025-10-06 12:20

This is a nice little monster collecting game. The shadows from 2D sprites effect is very nice and the minimal animations go well with it. I liked the chiptune sound effects and having an open procedural world is cool. Being able to click the buttons with the mouse would have been good.

ueighti 2025-10-06 17:26

The idea is very interesting. I feel that adjusting the camera to have less zoom could improve the experience.

mdotedot 2025-10-06 17:58

Looks good overall but does fit a different theme better. Nice mechanic though!

tim-eriksen 2025-10-06 22:39

Great idea, just reading the description made me smile :) I liked the graphics! And the way the combat works was really nice. Using the scroll wheel to change MidMon was a challenge on a trackpad though, but that's on me... Good job making a cool game!

maytch 2025-10-06 22:43

@tim-eriksen Thanks! The funny thing is... I hadn't considered just adding the ablity to click the collection list to select your summon . I bet all of it was a bit difficult for a track pad.

I overrode the default scroll bar behaviour that comes with the engine trying to get the scroll to select creatures and then also scroll the window down when you're at the bottom of the list, wasting time when I could've just used the default scroll and then clicked them!

kit-gorn 2025-10-06 23:59

Ha, a new version of Pokemon :)

johncast123 2025-10-07 00:45

wow such a polished entry for something made in 48 hours that's so awesome! The landscape is the most impressive thing for me.

rhewid 2025-10-07 12:21

Nintendos lawyers want to know your location :D Cool game, also big fan of your Ragnarok-esque project! Cute art, the billboard approach works really well on this. Fun gameplay! Good entry overall!

I would like to see more types of creatures, bosses, and for summoned creatures to not disappear but follow the player) Nice work!

vikfx 2025-10-08 02:00

A Pokémon-like game is a good try for matching the theme, and the aesthetics, although quite simple, give a very polished look for a game made in 48 hours. Great job!

ira-baciu 2025-10-08 10:41

I really, really like the art style <3

baluj 2025-10-08 11:22

I liked the idea and found it enjoyable. I wish the creatures could follow you. It's a very good game.

kupnu4 2025-10-08 12:23

This is a very cool game, indeed! The mechanics are simple, but for some reason, half an hour has gone by. It feels like a good thing! The art, by the way, is great. Wonderful submission!

linus-lindberg 2025-10-08 12:37

This was a fun one! Very polished. Managed to capture them all

petitlu 2025-10-08 13:41

Great game, graphics are simple but effective, overall it feels really well polished. That level 8 dino killed half my creatures, had to go collect others again to complete the 100%. I didn't find if there is a way to call back our creatures sooner than the 8s cooldown. Sometimes they walk off and start fighting other creatures while you don't want them to.

runningopenloop 2025-10-08 22:20

Good game! i was confused by the capturing at first, but i figured it out. it would be nice if it had a win animation. -J

soleil 2025-10-09 08:21

Really cool game! I loved the concept and how simple yet addictive the mechanics are. The art style is charming and polished, especially for a 48h jam :)

re-markable 2025-10-09 12:41

Very cute game! The perspective worked really well for this! I was a bit sad I couldn't go into the caves, but this is of course still a gamejam hahaha, awesome job!

naru 2025-10-09 20:07

Well polished and fun to play ^^

yvanor 2025-10-11 14:07

Wow, very fun and nice looking game ! I was too optimistic at first, and my MidMons where swiped by the plant-like creature. I was more careful after that and it went better. I would love to be able to level up them, but I guess that would have been hell to balance so it's fine as it is.

Side note: I took a look at your project, found it funny how many of us start our game by naming it "level1", to finally only have time for one level

Very nice game, well done !

kazuren 2025-10-12 12:33

Really fun to play, I loved all the monsters and the fighting was cool, I didn't realize how strong the dino was and he nearly killed all my monsters the first time I fought it. Also the infinite generation is intriguing to me. Well done!

fusionnist 2025-10-15 19:27

Super cool entry! I managed to collect them all without much issue :) Procedural gen is very nice to see in a jam, it worked well here too!

lunardust 2025-10-20 10:05

fun little game! simple but very addicting game loop! really had fun exploring the world and capturing new monsters! good job!

apdt 2025-10-22 15:57

Wow, I catch 'em all! Take a look at my collection)2025-10-22_22-53-35.png
