What an awesome game! One of the most engaging that I've played so far! There are still a lot of bugs though. There were lots of times that I died after dropping a very short distance from a ledge, I think the game thought I had been falling that time? I would love to play some more of this once you've tacked some of the bugs!
Very nice! I'm a big fan of the movement system, animations and death sound :) I'm unfortunately stuck! I'm not sure if I'm able to descend to the yellow ores, or if I need upgrades... two fall distance upgrades didn't do it, and trying to grab the ledge with the spikes only kills me :( Would 100% return to this if I get a clue! Cheers!

Dang this is really unforgiving! I think that the beginning area should be a bit easier. Especially that first really long rope is very difficult to get past. Also, the movement is maybe a bit floaty for my liking. I also think that when you die, you should keep your money, even if the shop doesn't appear. Other than that, I think it's overall a pretty polished experience. I love the ropes; I wish there were more. I really like the sound effects though; they add a lot of character! I also really like the shop; I think it adds a lot and makes me want to continue playing. Perhaps you could add some kind of acceleration or handling upgrade. Somehow, I was able to buy the lantern for only $44, but I'm not complaining. Solid entry!

@coatline Thanks for the feedback. Not keeping the money when you die was a bug, as was being able to buy the lantern. These two bugs have since been fixed. I also agree with your other critiques but cannot currently fix them since they are technically not bugs, so I'll have to wait on those until after the jam judging concludes.
A really hard one, but i like the hanging-stamina mechanic. But for me the controls were feeling a bit weird and not made for my fingers i guess. What i really like are the noises the character makes. :D
I like the mechanics, even if they are hard at the beginning. I love the pixel-art graphics, especially the ropes style. Another good point is that you included the shop system. Overall, I like it! Good job!!

The ropes are so good. I want a game full of crazy rope jumps! haha. Graphics and sounds were good for compo, though I wish there was music or ambient noise (I did see you have sliders for that in the menus). Super impressed that the game actually has a save system! That is very rare for a compo game.
I think a bit of coyote time on the jumps would have made the game feel a bit more fair, especially with the curved edges of the platforms (they seem square hitboxed, but the player feels like they are capsule shaped maybe? there is a bit of give at the very edge).
Overall great game. I kept playing just to swing on the ropes. More Ropes! Definitely gonna go look at your code to see how you did them. So cool.

It's hard to play with a keyboard other than qwerty, but the game is nice.

@phlip45 Yeah I thought about adding coyote time for the jumps, but there always seemed to be something more pressing to deal with. I do plan to revisit some of the mechanics though after the jam. The ropes are done using verlet integration, and it formed the core of what I wanted to play with the LD regardless what the theme was. Thanks for thefeeback.
I like the wall hanging mechanics, the movement, running on slopes, etc. Wish I had more reasons to want to mine, or that mining was quicker, pressing several times in a row while just standing there isn't fun. The art looked cohesive, the physics were set up well. I think the game wants a little tweaking on momentum and acceleration when starting running, it feels a little sluggish but with this sort of game it would feel fun to have a bit more oomph in our steps.
This movement system is amazing. If you're having fun just y jumping and moving around, you know you have something great. Please keep working on this. It shows a lot of promise.

Very interesting mechanism! Pixel figures are very humorous. I seem to have seen a game like 'If it's too high, you'll fall to death', you can go and find it, it's very interesting!
Fun concept, but I found the controls a bit finicky (like the character took too long to accelerate and the jumps felt a bit floaty). I also had a lot of trouble with the ropes, it wasn't super obvious how bit the hitbox was for the end of the rope and so I had trouble aiming and timing the jumps. I did like the way the stamina meter was represented on the character--it was intuitive to look at and I liked the aesthetic.
Jump being on Z and not on space is killing me :sob: I use the same finger for Z as I do to move left with A, so I can't easily do both at the same time.
Even with that though, I think your mechanics are well put together. The jumping and hanging feel great. The ropes were super fun to swing on once you got the hang of the hitbox. I didn't make it very far though because restarting from the beginning felt a little demoralizing, I could've used checkpoints, maybe one you can buy.
Overall very solid, great work

Very fun concept! I'm a fan of any game that lets you bunnyhop  It's quite unforgiving though, I would have liked to see some checkpoints. But I think this has a lot of potential, great job!

Caught flashbacks of Prince of Persia 1989))))
The game is frustrating because of how unforgiving it is. During my first few playthroughs I didn't know what mining was for, and I was about to give a lower score, but then I saw people's comments about a shop, which I never even saw because I never bothered to mine enough, as the game doesn't really explain how to get the shop to open (get at least $10 and die, which I only discovered by digging through the source code, which can't even be opened with Godot because the project.godot file is missing and I don't even know which nodes are autoloaded). Anyways. Even with the shop, you need to farm so much to get enough fall damage tolerance and in the end it's not even worth it because you die mostly by falling not on hard ground but on spikes. The main problem are the controls, that they are too floaty. Also, there is no point in pressing X 5 f'in times to dig out $2. :sob: I think that insta-mining would be better in this case, as if collecting a coin. Also I don't see much point in the shop, at least as it is currently balanced.
Now, after all this roasting of your game, I will say that I like the mechanics, and I think that it could be a good base for a platformer game (or even a Metroidvania, since you have the shop), and that the man screaming sound effect is goofy aah type funny. Oh, this has been mentioned already, but the game really does kinda give off retro Prince of Persia vibes.
Good work!
@recursor Oh and I forgot to mention this, but I finally gave up playing this game for 2 hours when my character got fall-animation-stuck on a ledge.

The game refelcts the theme pretty well. Despite the clunky controls, the animation is pretty smooth.

Neat game! I wished that there I didn't have to start at the beginning every time, but it stuck with the theme really well. Well done!

Good game with good and funny player animation. I have an AZERTY keyboard so to jump it's not the Z key but W ;)

I'm really bad at platformers but this felt pretty smooth. Nice work on all the different mechanics, I really like how the character turns red as the stamina gets used. Well done!
