LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Heart Of Stone by holgk 2017-12-05T03:29:31Z

I got stuck at the main menu. None of the buttons worked, except the quit button, which is exactly what I did. Super disappointed because the menu background panning animation made me really interested in playing it.

Holiday Parking Panic! by FormalCloud 2017-12-05T02:49:23Z

The drivers in this game are inexplicably rude. No space for people pulling out of parking

Alchegator by torcado 2017-12-05T03:15:38Z

I couldn't understand or figure out a bit of it, but it was very creative.

Infirmiter by poetryoffear 2017-12-05T04:17:04Z

It was ok. It wasn't very intuitive as to how shooting worked, and killing enemies didn't feel satisfying. The enemies should play an animation or a sound or both when they die to reinforce the fact that you destroyed them. Also, your rotation seemed rather arbitrary because of how your weapon works.

The music was good, but I didn't really enjoy playing it.

Piggle Puzzle by fractalsunrise 2017-12-05T04:46:41Z

Pretty good! The audio, sound effects, and music were all very good. The puzzle mechanics were interesting and unique. They really make you think about what would happen. I like that you can easily reset the game without any hassle.

Farmland Invasion by CoderK 2017-12-05T03:00:47Z

Nice graphics and cool concept. The controls felt really weird. It's really hard to control both aim direction and movement direction with the keyboard. I would have recommended moving with WASD and aiming with the mouse.

My Alien Life! by muromets 2017-12-05T03:37:45Z

Pretty funny concept, and definitely something for aliens to consider. The controls were a little buggy and it was too easy to get stuck on walls. The gameplay basically boiled down to how fast you could press X, which is a lazy mechanic IMO. Other kinds of minigames would work better in this situation if you had more time to develop it. My high score was 1.76985 * 10^7! That's the highest in any game I've ever played! The game felt fairly balanced.

Hero Human Man-Pirate by Iamsodarncool 2017-12-05T04:36:12Z

This was very cool! The first cutscene wetted my appetite for an epic adventure, and then it dumps me in this schmup-like ship collecting treasures and dodging wrecks. The gameplay felt very bland, but the story was inttriguing.

Oh and the voice acting! Who could forget that? That was the best part! The rare voice acting on the menu screen was absolutely hilarious and the cutscene VA was pure gold. Whoever did that you are a star.

BANANA BOI EVADING YA TRASH by Kubi Entz 2017-12-05T04:20:59Z

Haha this was pretty funny. I don't get the title but from the game I gather that I'm a bear fishing for fish that are jumping up river? That's the best that I could describe it. I like the highscore board that's a nice touch.

Buried by Books by PaperbackGorilla 2017-12-05T04:06:00Z

This is the best LD40 game I've played so far! It's absolutely hilarious, relatable, fun, and very entertaining! It's a little rough around the edges and it has a disappointing "ending" (I think you just ran out of time), so I hope you continue to develop it because I'd absolutely like to play more of it. The book mechanics and how the level keeps changing as you get more books is just absolutely brilliant.

If you were to update it, I'd definitely add more frames to your walking animation, and add more visual feedback, especially for when you activate a checkpoint, when you die and go back to a checkpoint, and when you go through a door (cutting directly to the next scene is sometimes a bit confusing). There's a few non-optimal things with the mechanics, as well: she stays in the climbing animation even when she's at the top, there is no jump forgiveness (which means letting the player jump off the ledge a little late, almost from midair), and other things that make the normal jumping not feel to great, maybe a bit of floatiness too?

IDK, but the overall idea of this game is absolutely brilliant and I hope you continue to develop it.

Weeb Runner by Natsu 2017-12-05T03:41:19Z

Funny concept and great implementation of it. I thought it was hilarious. It's also very punishing if you don't have bot-level input. It has no ledge forgiveness which makes it near impossible to complete, especially since it has lots of very difficult platforming sections right at the beginning.

Vrax by Rasm 2017-12-05T03:20:40Z

It opened up fullscreen but in the top left corner of my screen and I couldn't move it, resulting in me not being able to see the entire screen. The gameplay was ok but nothing unique. Honestly, the screensize issue prevented me from enjoying the game.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Space Safe by MrTroy 2018-12-13T21:27:12Z

great game, great concept!

i really like how the player has to decide whether to go fast or carry more people. very cool mechanic. the music really also sells the premise that you're trying to save as many people as possible before they get eaten by asteroids.

the only thing i really wish is an easier way to tell where everything is. like grid lines or something. it would also be easier to read the minimap if it showed you in the center.

overall, great game! very interesting twist on asteroids

Omelettes by stevenjmiller 2018-12-05T07:11:57Z

cute little puzzle game

i had to quit because it was really tiny on my screen (my resolution is really huge on a normal-sized screen) and I couldn't tell how high the platforms were in relation to each other.

overall i liked the concept but i wish it was easier to read the level design

Night's End by glimaleite 2018-12-04T08:14:40Z

SO COOL!! normally i find tower defense games boring, but the story and the mechanics, and the artwork just drew me right in. so intense!

unfortunately i had to quit half way through because it was being so glitchy it was unplayable. I'd be up in the sky and it'd just randomly teleport me directly below, to the house, or to any other random place. i dont know what caused it, but if it werent for that glitch, id have finished this game.

i have no reservations about giving this game 5 stars all across the board! bravo, sir, bravo!

Island of Gods by Kirill Nepomnyaschiy 2018-12-05T06:44:15Z

how does this not have any ratings?

it didnt work for me. no matter how many defenders or attackers i used, my guys always died. the art and animation was really good tho

dropboy by torcado 2018-12-04T03:19:20Z

so cool! such a cool concept for a puzzle game! and well polished too!

dropboy by torcado 2018-12-04T08:43:21Z

Is this puzzle possible to solve?

dropboy.png I dont want to know the solution just yet, just wanted to check to make sure it's possible

EDIT: nvm i figured it out

The Omicron Fleet by cerno-b 2018-12-30T20:53:37Z

I watched @jupiter-hadley play it but didnt play it myself.

I think it's a cool game with a cool concept. art is a bit lackluster, but the puzzles are the main thing of interest here. i say well done!

No Brakes on the Train of Life by squaredev 2018-12-05T07:03:28Z

very fun and unique concept.

critiques: 1. it didnt give me time to survey a new level before switching on. it would have been better if the train didnt show up until i started moving. 2. the hitboxes on the switches weren't very clear. I think they should be a bit bigger.

the graphics and music and audio were great and definitely gave the game a unique feel. over all a great entry

Rude Bear Responsibility by alexrose 2018-12-04T03:35:43Z

i cant play your game :( it gives me this error: "Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress."

Rude Bear Responsibility by alexrose 2018-12-05T04:15:00Z

finally its up! im looking forward to playing it, and i dont even know what its about!

EDIT: ok, i was expecting a platformer... but still, the art style was great, and its impressive you were able to make that many art assets in only 3 days! voice acting was cool, dont see that in many games

Ludum Dare: The Game by pantoufle 2018-12-04T07:53:51Z

dude what have you been doing, spying on me?! how did you know this was what i was doing this whole weekend?

Make the trip by Dancinoman 2018-12-04T05:24:21Z

overall a nice game, the graphics really sell it. a tad boring tho.

Last Train Home by loadsofmana 2018-12-04T04:59:16Z

very cool game!

critique: its really hard to tell which character does what just by their name, because i forgot who my shuut and smurt characters were. i really like the scenarios and the sprite selections, its really fun to have meaningful choices.

Shooty Shapes by Andrew Castillo 2018-12-04T05:44:04Z

the controls didnt work for me :[ but the music and graphics were nice

Shooty Shapes by Andrew Castillo 2018-12-04T06:02:34Z

@andrew-castillo I was playing on Windows. It didn't respond to mouse or keyboard at all, except for menu controls. Luckily, my laptop is touch screen so I could use that, but the controls didn't make any sense to me. I was holding down both fingers and the ship seemed to move and shoot in a random direction.

My Little Cultist - Sacrifice is Magic - Babby's First Eldritch Ritual edition by homeworld 2018-12-13T21:18:23Z

looks pretty but i couldn't tell what was going on because i couldnt zoom in close enough

also it has nothing to do with ponies :(

Bloodgold: Sunken Treasure by BinarySpark 2018-12-05T06:01:17Z

pretty good game! sacrificing gold was a meaningful decision and the mechancis were really cool. i think my favorite part was at the end of the first level when half my screen was covered in coins and my bag was really big. really made you feel like you were encumbered by all the gold you were carrying; that effect was weigh more effective than just having a number counter or saying "encumbered" on the screen like in Skyrim XD

didnt complete it because the mobs got too hard for me, but the bit i did play was engaging and fun!

Keyboard Twister by Papercookies 2018-12-13T21:05:20Z

cool game! i like how it says "for educational use only" at the bottom XD i used both hands. there was no way to beat it with just one lol

Z-Trail by oxrock 2018-12-04T07:40:03Z

whoa the amount of detail in the simulation is astounding!

Transit Terror by SlimothyJ 2018-12-19T20:17:40Z

cool game, very atmospheric.

if its one thing ld43 taught me, its that i rather enjoy road trip make-decisions-as-you-go games. And this game was no exception. the moving scenery and the bouncing bus were just very entertaining to watch.

the buttons on the bottom weren't very understandable in that it wasn't clear how they effected the other stats. Like, how do you up your combat percentage? Upgrading the bus? And what's the pink mushy stat on the far right?

Other than the missing information, this game was cool and fun to play

Fast Fast Fire by Tay 2018-12-04T07:57:32Z

High Score: 3060/1845

cool little game, cute art style. dont really like the cooldown on the weapon very much. music is nice

Ho Ho Hold Up by SeanW 2018-12-05T05:04:12Z

ok i guess. the art, music, and sound were great. the concept had potential but i dont think you delivered well on it. Collecting x amount of elves isnt very interesting to me and the game felt like a grind because there were no meaningful decisions to make.

Aetherspirit by gwinnell 2018-12-19T19:11:30Z

I didn't play it myself but I watched @jupiter-hadley play it and this game looks fantastic! Definitely something that you could expand into a full game IMO!

Glow It Alone by egawag 2018-12-04T05:33:47Z

nice game guys! the mechanic of your dead guys becoming platforms and barriers was really cool.

if you expand on it, id recommend adding some kind of checkpoint system, where once you get past an obstacle, you don't have to keep jumping past it with each of your glowblobs

Bloodless by Wojciech Bruski 2018-12-19T19:40:56Z

cool game.

my only complaint is i cant tell which number to press for each ability, and i cant tell if certain abilities are being used. Like critical hit, i cant tell if its active or not, or if its on cooldown.

concept was cool

also the cutscene and the voice acting was a huge bonus

Fritten Madness Extreme - Dungeon Edition by FredR121 2018-12-04T05:51:37Z

cool little platformer, very tight controls it seems there was a cooldown on the gun that wasn't made very obvious (or maybe i was firing at my feet?) that twist ending really got me, like surely i can make that jump.... but NOPE that was the point!! what the hay?! overall a fun little adventure

Head Over Hooves: My Heart Bleats For You by Blarfnip 2018-12-04T07:22:56Z

NOOOOOOO!!! it was just getting good, and she had to go!! :sob:

the mastermind puzzles weren't well explained, but i knew them already so it was a fun refreshing break from the average match 3 dating sim minigame

played on the post-jam version and there was an occasional glitch where a mastermind square was supposed to be green but it was red instead.

Coming Home by Robin49 2018-12-19T19:09:08Z

I pressed random buttons and won the game somehow. I don't even understand what I did. This concept has potential, but the mechanics have to be properly introduced in-game.

Alms Crown by toboggan 2018-12-04T18:48:38Z

very clever puzzle game! has the hallmarks of a great puzzler, including those puzzles you think are impossible but really aren't once you stop and think about them. Well done!

my only real complaint is that the art style sometimes makes it difficult to see the level layout and how far/ how high certain blocks are. but the overall gameplay and puzzle design is really cool!

Path of the Programmer by themadprogramer 2018-12-05T06:00:30Z

pretty good game! sacrificing gold was a meaningful decision and the mechancis were really cool. i think my favorite part was at the end of the first level when half my screen was covered in coins and my bag was really big. really made you feel like you were encumbered by all the gold you were carrying; that effect was weigh more effective than just having a number counter or saying "encumbered" on the screen like in Skyrim XD

didnt complete it because the mobs got too hard for me, but the bit i did play was engaging and fun!

EDIT: Sorry I posted on the wrong game

Path of the Programmer by themadprogramer 2018-12-05T06:20:08Z

it looks like you didnt put much time into this. it was boring and uninteresting. the sound and character graphics were ok. i didnt finish the game.

Heres a few critiques I have: 1. Going through the menus was absolutely the worst. It would have been better if you had custom menu options here instead. I think RPG Maker may have been a hindrance in this regard. 2. There needed to be a way to tell what your focuses currently were. I had to default to setting focuses every month because I forgot what they were set to. 3. It wasn't clear which month the exams were going to be in. If the calendar said "December: Exams", it wasn't clear if that was going to happen before or after I chose focuses for December 4. Even if 1 through 3 were resolved, the game's concept is still uninteresting. Playing as a student trying to balance programming with school work is interesting and can be done in an interesting way, but your implementation of it was just terrible

I hope you get more time to do a proper game next time around.

Horde of the Demon Lord by PaperbackGorilla 2018-12-04T03:21:17Z

wheres the download button on itch.io? dont forget you have to set access to "everyone" by clicking down the list until it becomes available

Most Important Person by Kobrar 2018-12-05T05:30:10Z

this game was really frustrating to play. the people died after being thrown even if they didnt get hit by a monster, and it was difficult to throw them down from a ledge. some checkpoints left you without people because they had to come down from the top.

the graphics were ok, the music was great, and the sound effects were immersive. i liked the bounce effects when the people jumped

overall a creative idea

Plushie Piler by shieldgenerator7 2018-12-04T06:36:26Z

@oxrock thanks, im glad you enjoyed it ^_^ yeah sound was something i forgot to do. haha next time!

Plushie Piler by shieldgenerator7 2018-12-04T07:44:44Z

@jequed i'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^ yeah sorry about the stickiness of it, i didnt get to do a full test playthrough until after the submissions was closed, so i didnt even know if it was possible to beat

Plushie Piler by shieldgenerator7 2018-12-04T07:46:12Z

@mrpiedpiper im glad you enjoyed it ^_^ oh those are nice names the plushies! which one did you end up keeping?

Plushie Piler by shieldgenerator7 2018-12-04T17:23:12Z

@ragnta what the hay how did you do that?? haha well im glad you enjoyed it :3

Plushie Piler by shieldgenerator7 2018-12-04T17:24:24Z

@mrpiedpiper thanks :D yeah if I had time for sound effects and visual effects I would have made it much more obvious when you're sacrificing your plushies

Plushie Piler by shieldgenerator7 2018-12-05T06:35:08Z

@sam-minh glad you enjoyed it ^_^. yeah the physics puzzles were hard to do and i didnt have enough time to test out all the puzzles before throwing them into the game. turns out a lot of them didnt work as well as I had hoped they would *shrugs* maybe i'll make a post-jam version with all the kinks worked out. glad you liked the puzzles!

@themadprogramer yeah im sorry i dont do mac games :(

@xphere what? you made it to the end and didn't tweet? :'( how am i going to know what plushie you picked now?

Plushie Piler by shieldgenerator7 2018-12-19T19:17:53Z

@popdaddygames you did what you had to do

@rytannic thanks! im glad you enjoyed it :3 Thanks for the bug report, if I ever expand this game I'll make sure to fix that.

@arthur-baars thansk! Im glad you enjoyed it :D

@awix which puzzle was your favorite?

@krx271 thanks for playing :)

@tom-kurcz im glad you liked it ^^

@beardmage i havent done my job if its not a good surprise haha

@guy-withivy thanks for the encouragement. I probably will get back to this at some point but right now Im working on a long term game project that takes up all my time.

Plushie Piler by shieldgenerator7 2018-12-31T05:34:11Z

@cerebral-bore the cat and the bat! excellent choice. RIP other plushies

@jupiter-hadley thanks for playing my game! i like that you think the plushies are cute ^^

@acaral idk man it must be something in my water. its been tasting rather funny lately

It's your life, dude by Guy Withivy 2018-12-19T19:57:35Z

mechanics weren't well explained

...and i dont really have a lot of good things to say, so i'll just shut up now

Catrifices by MrPiedPiper 2018-12-04T08:36:33Z

surprisingly well-animated for a gamejam game. music and audio are very nice as well!

however, the game was very confusing. as a rule, i play the game before i read its ludum dare entry page. i was so confused as to what the controls were, even after reading the instructions. it didnt help that the drop off zones were only on one side of the map, and they weren't the white circles (i dont even know what the white circles were). The white circles were easier to spot and easier to identify as an interactable game object

overall, not too bad for a first game!

Checkpoint by JLV 2018-12-04T06:49:46Z

very subversive! hahaha i had a good laugh out of it!

#rememberthebonfire

Pyme's Genocide by HermesEs 2018-12-13T21:12:26Z

cool game i didnt understand how to play and the jumping felt buggy. I couldnt figure out why the monsters stopped spawning or why i couldnt get to some platforms. Very cool concept has potential if you put more time into it

Tendie Revengie by Jequed 2018-12-04T18:34:49Z

pretty cool game, but there's just one problem: YOU MADE ME THROW OUT THE PONY!!! :'(

haha srsly tho, this was a pretty cool and creative game! the art style was really unique, and how you had to strafe the corners was something I'd never seen before. it was also just downright hilarious XD

Birds in Space by PopDaddyGames 2018-12-19T20:10:36Z

very polished game. even had in-game video quality settings!

i found it a bit hard to control and hard to tell what the seeds were at first. Also, what do all of the stats do? Shields didnt seem to do anything it feels.

nice graphics nice concept

Noah's mARK II by Arthur Baars 2018-12-19T19:54:19Z

haha funny concept man

dialogue was hilarious

ship was hard to control and i didnt have time to jettison people before being hit by a huge asteroid.

but alas, I still got some score:

noahsmark high score.png

also the title pun is a gem +1

Offering Dungeon by Shambles 2018-12-04T03:50:24Z

needs some polish, but a workable concept

Sacrifice Society by SirMichel 2018-12-04T03:33:48Z

great concept! very unique mechanic, using towns people as lives. really puts a sense of urgency into the game. are you going to develop this concept further?

Accept this Offering by xPheRe 2018-12-05T06:29:13Z

cool game! i didnt understand any of the mechanics but i liked the text story and how the puzzles related to it. the art and sound were good.

The Sacrificial Adventurer by Lexyvil 2018-12-05T05:37:55Z

cool concept and i liked how you introduced the mechanics. it suffers from a lack of meaningful choices, as you have to sacrifice jump height in order to get past the first ceiling spikes in the second level. having variable jump height would have solved this issue (have the jump not go as high if you let up on the key sooner)

overall great concept

Dark Villagers by AwiX 2018-12-19T19:45:48Z

my guys didnt do anything and got utterly slaughered by the first wave of enemies. Nobody responded to any of my inputs. this game left me confused and dismayed

Dark Villagers by AwiX 2018-12-19T20:19:31Z

@mavne im using Windows 10 and was playing in Google Chrome

Lanternal : A Mage’s Sacrifice by Liz Cooper-G4G 2018-12-04T06:32:50Z

this is unbelievable! are you sure you made this in only 72 hours?!

also my high score is 27

Ranch of the Gods by Vodish 2018-12-04T06:56:21Z

High Score: 886 funny game, i like how he picks up the cows movement speed was a bit too slow, a run button would have been nice i like how each god dos something different when they get mad

Sacrificial Sam by TinyMushroom 2018-12-04T07:27:38Z

didnt work for me :[ i ran the exe on windows, it gave me a blank black rectangle for a split second then disappeared, never to be heard from again

Sacrificial Sam by TinyMushroom 2018-12-13T20:58:12Z

Cool game! Despite all the problems I ran into, I ended up enjoying it once I got past the frustrating parts. There were some parts where it required too much of a precise jump and the instructions didn't properly convey that you had to already be pressing the arrow keys when you pressed Z.

Also, the Web GL build doesn't show the whole level for me: sacrificial sam stuck level.png

Overall very fun and I like that you have a set ability that gets lost each time because it's easier to guarantee the player will be able to continue the rest of the game.

Sacrificial Sam by TinyMushroom 2018-12-19T19:02:56Z

@tinymushroom no i didnt run it in fullscreen. I'm using chrome. And that dash description makes more sense now

Burn-Out by Tom Kurcz 2018-12-19T19:28:41Z

technically simple but the execution was phenomenal. i cried at the end T_T im crying right now as i write this post. this game really struck a chord with me.

critique: the word effects were a big part of thee effect of this game. the way they blurred when you were tired, shook when you were rattled, and jumped when you were on edge. Just phenomenal. And the tiny little self doubts popping up after each decision were the cherry on top.

overall a great interactive experience. one of the best of ldjam 43

Chiiip by LuCecyl 2018-12-30T20:54:46Z

I watched @jupiter-hadley play it and didn't play it myself.

man this game is hilarious. the phone is a bit distracting the way it works but its super funny to see what they say when you throw a sheep over the fence XD

Last Man In Space by izi 2018-12-04T06:14:41Z

the music told me someone was getting some action but no one got any

Last Man In Space by izi 2018-12-04T18:25:04Z

@izi ok i got to the end, but... what about purple and pink planet?

Last Man In Space by izi 2018-12-04T19:52:26Z

@izi well in that case, i'd really like it if the teleporting goombas told you what was at its warp point, especially if you've gone to that warp point before, in case you forget where everything is at looking forward to seeing a longer version

Bow-wow Before God by Papabirb 2018-12-05T06:40:12Z

what the hay did i just play

srsly i didnt understand anything. i just waited around until i had to press bless.

the graphics were cool and i stayed for the puns, but i didnt understand the controls and im done

Total Party Kill by adventureislands 2018-12-05T07:38:22Z

the best game ever!! so much fun! i have os much to say about this game!

the graphics, art, music, sound effects, animations, etc. were epic

the best part is the mechanics. not only do you have to sacrifice your friends, but each friend has a unique attack and you have to use them to solve unique situations this is the only dungeon game i know where you have weapons that you only use on your allies XD

oh! but srsly! this was so good!

my only real complaint was the lack of WASD and a selection number for each character (1-3 instead of next and prev). but other than that, this game is fantastic! 5 stars all around!

EDIT: My fav part was playing back-and-forth catch with the frozen knight between the mage and the archer XD

Lastcrifices by Cerebral Bore 2018-12-30T20:51:28Z

cool game. i liked how its a schmup without any shooting, just dodging.

its kind of evil tho how the dialogue pops up right when you need to manuever around a wall, distracting you into hitting it

the random character references are cool.

the limited number of lives is a lame mechanic from an archaic era.

overall its a cool concept done well

Detached by Toast Toaster 2018-12-04T07:04:05Z

so funny! i liked how you got arms and legs by killing enemies, and it also served as your health bar. really clever mechanic!

Foothold by Vinay Rao 2018-12-05T06:51:45Z

really cool concept!

I also liked that it was understandable enough for me to get the gist of the game without reading any of your tutorial text.

destroying platforms as a way of killing enemies, absolute genius! I liked cheesing it by destroying almost all the platforms and just making the enemies walk into pits XD

i could totally seeing this becoming a full fledged game

my high score:

Sacrifice Simulation: GOAT FARM by phanxgames 2018-12-04T03:07:52Z

I sacrificed 54 goats. *stretches arms nonchalantly* Yep, I only got a high score of 5350. Nothing major or anything.

I played on a touch screen, and that made it a lot easier.

Machine Godz by Beardmage 2018-12-19T20:25:42Z

really cool game!

the art style, the music, the gameplay!

the robot designs are also really cool, and i like how the choices between rooms are also given to you by unique-looking robots. I didn't understand what each did, but I understand that they were different choices.

very cool, i think this could be a full game

a Journey and a Blank slate by glimaleite 2019-10-08T04:32:41Z

a found a bug: the 'Resolve" tooltip is the same as the "Flee" tooltip in the combat screen also, after fleeing, the move highlighter doesnt update to your new position. you have to click "move" again to see your new move options

a Journey and a Blank slate by glimaleite 2019-10-08T04:46:21Z

cool game! i absolutely hated the controls. id have preferred to just click the tiles i want to move to without having to click the "move" button every turn. the concept was simple and engaging. the controls put me off at the beginning, but the rest of the game was very interesting and engrossing. it felt like it ended too soon

Ping Pong by Iak 2019-10-11T08:16:25Z

remind me to play this game later

Ping Pong by Iak 2019-10-11T22:58:11Z

im so glad you reminded me to play your game!

this is hilarious and awesome! i never expected this twist at all. im going to think of this game everytime i play pong now

the unique levels and play styles were also really cool! the only game ive seen so far that pulls it off

(and to think i almost passed up on this game because it didnt have an itchio page)

overall a really fun game. i wish it had an itchio page so i could add it to my favorites collection

Ping Pong by Iak 2019-10-12T07:24:30Z

@iak thanks! i added it to my favorites!

World Collector by Joe Williamson 2019-10-08T07:47:24Z

what the crap how is this game so good?!?!

you had enough time in 48 hours to animate all that, make the audio and soundtrack, and program the mechanics? that's amazing!

(1) animation was great

(2) intro hooked me right in right away. amazing

(3) main mechanic was pretty cool. could be a full game, level-based or open-world IMO

(4) i want to be able to scroll around while zoomed out so i can go way down or way up

(5) having SPACE as the zoom out button threw me off. that's my main jump button man! i died once because of it!

(6) speaking of dying, losing all your piece placement and status seems like a big punishment. I was thinking it would just start me off at the beginning of the piece i died at

(7) the rectangle piece is rather boring, but i get it you had limited time to make interesting pieces

(8) music man, wow, fit the game to a tee.

dude, when you make this a full game, let me know. ill buy and make a youtube video about it

also, no spoilers, but, i really liked the ending. that was cool

whoa i cant believe this but this game takes the cake for #1 from two other really cool games. amazing work, man!

lotor by torcado 2019-10-08T05:39:30Z

a really cool idea!

(1) it needs to have some way to reset the level entirely, because you could fill the entire level up with blocks / hazards and have no chance of completing it. in the first level it's not a big deal, but in later levels it's a hassle to have to redo the entire game because you placed random hazards in a way that was unwinnable.

(2) it would be nice to know what the next thing you're placing is, but i understand if the surprise is part of the game design.

(3) i really like this idea but it definitely needs some form of in-game tutorial. like make a first level that gives you the star, the cat, and a few blocks, and have it display the "enter" key on screen to let players know they need to press it.

overall really cool. if you fix the bug where i can't reset the entire level, i'll give you more stars

lotor by torcado 2019-10-08T08:34:14Z

@torcado oh. i didnt see that, i read the "Playing" section and thought the rest was download links / download instructions. thanks for the tip

Trelet ~ The Land of Words by Ovidios 2019-10-08T07:01:26Z

this is a really cool concept

(1) it's a real hassle to have to press the up and down buttons to select the letter. it'd be easier if i could hold it down to continue selecting or select it with my mouse.

(2) it would be handy to be able to see further ahead

(3) i felt like i never had enough letters to continue. and it felt like making longer words really wasn't worth it.

(4) i think it's a cool concept but the first level needs to be shorter or just accept that it's going to be an open-world kind of game

(5) it felt like it wasn't worth it trying to build up back to the wizard guy, who gives you hardly anything for all the words it took to get back to him

(6) an in-game tutorial would be nice

(7) this is basically Scrabble: The 2D Platformer, and it's awesome!

NothingMan by Arity 2019-10-11T06:47:42Z

couldnt get past the first level :/ sorry not going to bother trying to get farther

EDIT: sorry, posted on wrong game. i will update this comment when I play this game

EDIT2: ok i played the game.

(1) not being able to see the platforms is frustrating. id say it works better as a level gimmick than a whole game concept

(2) the abilities were cool

(3) I wish Zenyatta had this guy's left shift ability

(4) when you hold a diretion and jump, he gets stuck on the wall instead of jumping to his full height. this stopped me up quite a bit before i found my eyes

(5) I use WASD and the wall stick ability didnt work for the W key

(6) it was cool that the sprite updated everytime you got a new ability

(7) +1 for custom audio and music

Rude Bear Refurbished by alexrose 2019-10-08T04:56:41Z

everything keeps disappearing into a wall :/

there's too many bugs for me to find it enjoyable. the buttons are not configurable and they're in a place that's hard for me to reach comfortably. its really hard to move the character around corners and through door ways. objects sometimes go behind walls when you place them, disappearing forever. having to go through the opening cutscene every time you die is a drag. no music and the sound effects are rather annoying because of how loud they are.

this game is hilarious tho. you have no furniture so you steal it from your neighbors XD its my head canon that this is a prequel to your Ludum Dare 43 entry. itd be really cool if you spruced them all up and put them all together in one game and each ludum dare entry is a chapter. that would be cool

Rude Bear Refurbished by alexrose 2019-10-08T07:53:21Z

@alexrose ahaha i called it! i sense a strong possibility of a chapter-driven compilation game coming on!

yeah i noticed the radios and the clocks, that's a nice touch, except that the radio only plays when you're near, and the clock isn't much good hidden behind a wall :/

it makes me wonder if you planned this way back when and you just get lucky that the jam themes line up with your story arc, or if you're a master adapter and created all these cool chapters based on the theme and it happened to work out. either way, i think its pretty cool

VELOCE by torfi 2019-10-08T06:16:03Z

by far the best game ive played so far in the jam

the music is upbeat and really adds to the action atmosphere of the game.

it's really to get into the zone and dodge all the enemy projectiles, especially since the color coding and sprite differences make it really easy to tell which particles are good and which are bad.

i really cool game i want to play on my phone when im bored

Nüllptr by egordorichev 2019-10-08T08:05:35Z

I HATE THIS GAME

this is the first game tonight that made me rage quit. congrats!

[sarcasm] i just love that the power ups move at the same speed my ship does, so if they ever get below me I have 0% chance of catching up to them [/sarcasm]

overall, it is a very nice polished game. +1

things i hate about it:

(1) arrow keys only with no option for reconfiguration. come on, man, WASD!

(2) i would have much preferred WASD + space

(3) i wasnt really sure what all the power ups did

(4) the powerups often hid behind enemy fire, meaning collecting it was going to be useless

i have to give you props for

(5) mario-like health system where power ups give you extra life

(6) a red line indicating the current record. that was pretty cool!

(7) the music and the art style went along really well with the gameplay

(8) easy-access cheat menu. still didn't calm my rage tho

overall a great game but the controls and some mechanics made me rage quit

Sword Of Nothing by Birdlay 2019-10-11T06:49:14Z

couldnt get past the first level :/ sorry not going to bother trying to get farther

Chad's Revenge by loadsofmana 2019-10-08T05:28:06Z

i died and i didnt feel like trying again

(1) its interesting that you tie jump height to the RPG mechanics. i dont know many games that do that, and that could be an interesting way to gate off high-level areas.

(2) the movement was slow and felt really janky, mostly because the run animation didn't fit his movement speed.

(3) it was really grindy. it took me like 7 levels just to be able to 1-shot the first slime enemies.

(4) the enemies spawn way too many at a time. the nidoran enemies had an entire flock by the time i got to them, and i was too overwhelmed to be able to figure out their movesets completely.

(5) I forgot what strength and dexterity did. a tooltip would have been nice

(6) the slimes looked cute and cuddly :3

(7) i hated having to fetch my XP, especially when they fall into the nidoran pit below. automatically granting XP upon killing an enemy would have been much preferred

Overall, had potential, but I think the execution could use a lot of improvements.

Three Little Pigs by Anne Ogborn 2019-10-11T07:54:51Z

i got real excited for this, but i was disappointed

(1) the audio is horrible. its too loud and its very grating. im surprised my ears didnt bleed.

(2) i liked trying to draw houses, but my drawings keep disappearing and nothing else happens. for a pig that needs houses you'd think hed be a little less picky (also i expected him to say something when a house wasnt good enough)

(3) the concept is cool but i didnt have fun with the current implementation

(4) itd be really cool if it used your drawings to make the house, and distorted your house image to match the user's drawing XD (i know i know, you probably wouldnt have time for that in a jam)

(5) also, this happened while drawing with a touchpad: ld45-three-little-pigs-line-bug.png XD

overall i think its a cool idea, with a bit more work you could have a solid mobile game on your hands (id probably play this on my phone when im bored waiting in lines)

Not My Hoarder by Tommyflower 2019-10-11T08:18:20Z

@tommyflower oh it is? i didnt see a link to it on your itchio page

Build Yourself by lilkrit 2019-10-08T07:17:00Z

first game ive seen so far made in blender. youre an absolute madlad, making your game in blender. hats off to you

my fav part was using the ramp in the first level to ride the wall and completely skip the purple section. it made me feel clever

(1) pressing ESC exits the level and takes you to the main menu screen, losing all your progress. i quit playing after discovering that.

(2) i dont get the scrap mechanic but i enjoyed finding the new abilities and oddly enough, trying to steer the car along the narrow bridges was actually pretty fun

good job!

Nothing by JoelLikesPigs 2019-10-09T07:25:51Z

this game was so clever!

reminded me a lot of DLC quest, but this game felt unique enough with its own style of humor.

i recognized the elevator music! "the girl from iponema" or something

the only thing i didnt like was the blind pit jumps you had to make. srsly man, im not psychic!

the permanent squeaky shoes had me laughing out loud. most hilarious "upgrade" I've ever seen in a game!

congrats on first ludum dare!

Bob the Brawler by itsdanidre 2019-10-11T08:00:59Z

SUPER SATISFYING

high score: 14838

(1) at first i thought Q was punch because the game told me to press that at the beginning. I would have liked a button to show up on screen at the start to give me a hint. that would avoid the moment of confusion of not knowing the controls

(2) its super satisfying to beat up the masked guys

(3) animation is really cool and music fits really well

(4) i dont know what the potion or the box do but im glad it shows how much time is left to collect it

overall really cool game, just needs more content

Lonely Planet by shieldgenerator7 2019-10-08T21:00:19Z

@jakemchugh1 glad you liked it :D yeah its one of those things you figure out through playing the game

@human-writes-code exactly! agar.io and tetris, and kinda one of those bubble games too. unfortunately we didnt have time to make music

@vincentvincent thanks man!

@jupiter-hadley thanks for playing my game! im glad you got to see everything in the game in that minute

Lonely Planet by shieldgenerator7 2019-10-11T23:07:15Z

@cdunham glad you enjoyed the challenge. what was your high score?

@xakkar yeah im planning on making a mobile build sometime

@drtizzle thanks man! yeah i might actually release this. rotate controls would be nice, but im not sure how the controls would on mobile. what was your high score?

@megalink glad you liked it! yeah i was going to put in sound effects and debris but i ran out of time. when i release this for real i'll definitely add that

@alicecrd thanks! the graphics were done by Szymon Furjan, you should check out his work. he makes tons of desktop-background-worthy vector arts

@iak thanks for the reminder! your game was awesome :D what was your highscore in my game?

@itsdanidre thanks! im glad you enjoyed it

link's broke :/

Evolve! by Allan Urique 2019-10-11T07:19:14Z

I didnt enjoy this game.

(1) I died while reading the tutorial text. It would have been better for the game to be paused (or for you to be invincible) while the tutorial was taking up 33% of the screen.

(2) There's no way to skip the tutorial text. You have to click 4 times each time you start from the main menu

(3) It's really hard to tell if you're going to collide with smaller cells. I missed quite a few that looked like they were going to hit me but didn't. Some kind of indication that I'm on the same Y plane as an oncoming cell would be nice

i like that the cell moves more when it gets larger, thats cool

Stolen Goods by DrRozza 2019-10-11T08:09:16Z

really cool idea. the implementation had kinks tho

(1) the robber guy was hard to control because he collided with everything. i dont think his head should collide with the walls, and his feet should not collide with the top of a plant

(2) he moved annoyingly slow but i understand that was for gameplay reasons

(3) the music was really sneaky i loved it

(4) it was really easy to find the items, just getting them all was really hard

(5) the home owners could see you just outside of their range

(6) itd be cool if there were places to hide

(7) the art style made visual communication much easier

overall really cool game just has a few implementation details that could be addressed to make it even more fun

Planet Z33 by LanaLux 2019-10-08T06:33:57Z

definitely felt creepy and like there was impending danger

unfortunately i didnt get too far into it

looks like it was probably going to be a cool game, but i died at night at it was still light out and i couldn't be arsed to walk all the way back to the base from the beginning again

Boss Battle Royale by Gold5Games 2019-10-11T07:44:42Z

cool game

(1) haha nice. he has a beard to cover up his naked parts

(2) it took me a couple runs before i figured out how to pick stuff up. i didnt realize i had to mouse over an item to be able to use E. I thought I could just stand next to it like in RPGs

(3) cover to hide behind in an shoot 'em up boss battle! thats new!

(4) pretty clever the boss has an attack to get me to come out from behind cover

(5) i found dodging to be really difficult

(6) im kinda disappointed there's not more items, but I get it, theres only so much you can do in a weekend

(7) IDK what you're talking about man, the dragon attack sound effects were spot on

(8) its evil that you can get trapped in a room and forced to take damage from the fire to get out

overall pretty cool. i rage quit so im not playing it again. but if you polish it up a bit I think itd be a pretty cool game

REWRITER by johjoh 2019-10-08T07:27:04Z

really cool game!

#2 best game ive played so far today.

i dont really have any complaints about this game, it ran smoothly, it was fun to play, the controls were tight and my death was fair. the only thing i could think of was that I couldn't easily tell how much health i still had, and some of the pickups weren't clear. but overall it was very fun and engaging

and having the enemies hit you with walls, such genius! well played, sir, well played

A Walk From Nothing by A French-Canadian Studios 2019-10-11T07:03:46Z

(1) wow you modeled all those assets in under 48 hours? thats amazing

(2) the narrator audio quality was pretty bad. im not sure how to fix it but im sure it has to do with the setup. the delivery of the lines was ok tho

(3) also, SHIFT to sprint also works. i was really happy to see that

this is one of those games that gets people debating about what a game actually is

Rude Bear Restart by alexrose 2022-04-06T05:57:58Z

its amazing you got this much done in game jam time

Akubi by Almax 2022-04-06T06:23:58Z

this is a really cool game. felt really fluid and easy to control. all the mechanics were easy to understand even without any explicit tutorials. very well done.

only thing i didnt like was that sometimes you couldn't jump while holding "right" up against a wall.

The Time Between by RemiCraft 2022-04-06T03:04:23Z

this game is so cool! one of my favorites so far!

Time Lab by Srynetix 2022-04-06T06:21:41Z

really good game, well polished, and really hard to beat

but i honestly couldnt trust the player character because she felt hard to control. when i let go of the buttons, she kept moving, which made it difficult to align her with the tight gaps she had to jump through. Her jump height is really low, meaning she has to double jump to get anywhere, which adds unnecessary complexity to the controls. I'd recommend making her stop quicker and increasing her jump height, then this game would be solid.

overall great game, especially for a jam

Time Lab by Srynetix 2022-04-06T23:50:01Z

@srynetix oh yeah, the variable jump height is good and intuitive, its just that she doesnt jump high enough with a single jump IMO. im making a video on it, will post here when i have uploaded it

Climate Crisis by Wilko 2022-04-06T03:37:31Z

Solid game!

It was really cool

Some things bothered me tho. The alerts seem to be continent-specific, but it doesn't tell you which continent you need to build a hospital/firestation/policestation on. I lost the game because I had two police stations, but the alert said I had 0.

The globe was REALLY hard to control. If you make a postjam version, definitely make the globe stop spinning once you let go of the mouse.

Itd be cool if there was a way to tell how much money you're gaining per day in total, and how much each of the meters are going up (or going down).

pretty solid gameplay, very engaging

PS: your itchio page doesn't link to your ludum dare page

Snøball by Thooom 2022-04-06T06:11:52Z

no restart, no tutorials, i couldnt get past the first gap, and had to reload the page to try again. also no itchio build. this looks like a cool game, but theres too many obstacles for me to enjoy the game as it currently is

This Is Sketchy by Danial Jumagaliyev 2022-04-06T06:19:01Z

Winter strikes back! by Biba-sama 2022-04-06T06:35:05Z

really hard to control, but the idea is good. i just want a bit more air control, and it's not obvious you have to hold the space bar to jump higher. i thought i just had to time the space properly with the landing. anyway cool game, i liked the music and sound effects
