LD38 — A Small World

GALAXEN by mrerdalural 2017-05-03T11:49:49Z

Rather nice art and mood in this one! The quotes were interesting and it was quite enjoyable to try and piece together a common message through them all.

I had a couple of issues however: some of the planets were too close together and their quotes were overriding each other, so I had to go and look at the quote list to read them properly. Also, because of the understandably large expanses, I found it more useful to just look at the map most of the time, instead of all the great space-art.

Great entry overall, enjoyed it quite a bit.

Imperative Righteousness Planetoid Domination Plan by Andrew Castillo 2017-05-03T11:00:09Z

@cyberstarlight, Thanks for the feedback, I can't believe we missed writing down the controls anywhere... I've updated the itch.io page with a list, and it will also tell you how to get started earning currency.

Incidental Dimension by wildmusketeer 2017-05-03T12:21:43Z

This was great! The graphics were really nice, and the weird planet-bending was particularly impressive. The audio was also good, it really put me on edge and enhanced the feel of ending up in another dimension.

I did find the puzzles confusing however, and managed to get a box stuck in a corner permanently. I'm not sure if that's because I'm terrible at puzzle games though...

Great entry overall, especially having been done in only 48 hours!

Shooty Shapes by Andrew Castillo 2018-12-04T03:18:47Z

@gao-ming uh, thanks! Static focus tested really well with our publisher.

@toast-toaster Windows version has no problems on my end. Are you running Windows 10? It could be an antivirus problem. You could also try checking for files in `C:\Users\[Your username]\AppData\LocalLow\While False Studios\Shooty Shapes`, there might be a output_log.txt or crash dump file there if you don't have a """proper""" antivirus.

However the only bamboozling here was the look on our publisher's face when he saw your comment. He reckons that *one* quick buck would be a terrible return on investment.

Shooty Shapes by Andrew Castillo 2018-12-04T04:23:17Z

@toast-toaster that's definitely unusual. It seems to be a bug with Unity from what I can tell, so there's not too much I can do help unfortunately. If only we had access to the engine source code like most game engines these days, we might be able to learn what's happening...

Shooty Shapes by Andrew Castillo 2018-12-04T04:26:56Z

@toast-toaster not even DA Games can afford a Unity source access license

@shieldgenerator7 were you playing on desktop or Android?

Shooty Shapes by Andrew Castillo 2018-12-04T06:18:33Z

@shieldgenerator7 the touch controls were designed for android specifically and I'd have no way of testing them on Windows. I wasn't even aware the Windows version of Unity supported touch actually. Sorry the game didn't work for you, this seems to be a Unity problem most likely.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Logicatory by zgragselus 2018-04-24T04:33:20Z

I'm getting really strong Half-Life vibes from this: the font and colour of the health, the force field straight from City 17 and the turrets. It's a pretty good game. The puzzles are a little simple but the presentation is really nice. The music is atmospheric and suits the game well and the graphics are pretty good for a 3 day game.

I did miss the second roller door you have to open and thought that the first turret room was the end, but I did eventually find the way to progress. Maybe putting another light in there would have helped distinguish it from when the door is down.

One last complaint: I have a 144Hz monitor, and the movement felt really jerky at this framerate. I'm pretty sure this is because you're using FixedUpdate() in Unity for the player. I'd recommend using the normal Update() for movement and only using FixedUpdate() to move physics objects around.

Good job overall!

Crowdsurf by Joe Cowman 2018-04-24T03:56:17Z

I don't think I've laughed so much playing a game in a while. This is great! My best lines were *'I want to fill out a form; please drug me with chloroform'*, and *'this is a tip; Please run python pip'*. Any game that gets me to say that off the top of my head deserves a good score in my mind.

Some of the rhyming detection seemed a bit off, but its understandably hard to make work well in text form, especially with different accents. Great idea and good execution!

Participating in a Drinking Game While Playing Soccer by ultrarat 2018-04-24T04:10:21Z

I like the concept a lot, but I think you could have done a bit more with it. Maybe make the player unable to walk straight if they get too drunk, or perhaps they feel sick if they jump too quickly. What you have is quite good though, I could see this being a fun couch/party game to play with friends.

@DrEvilBrain we didn't even know about the Ctrl-H thing! It seems to be something Unity just handles be default. About the music: let's just say that we need to learn to actually check the sources of our 'public domain music'. We've replaced it with something more suitable.

Citizenship++ by Andrew Castillo 2018-04-24T05:28:24Z

@kleinzach you should be able to run scripts from scripts, but they're sort of buggy so it might just not be working with what you wrote. The post processing effects definitely are a bit too much, especially the chromatic abberation. Thanks for playing!

@Darfeld antiviruses ruin all the fun.

Super Ice-Cream Roller Ultra by Probe31 2018-04-24T06:58:40Z

This is probably the prettiest game I've seen so far on here. Simple art direction can be so effective.

Gameplay-wise, I feel like the idea is great but the platforms are just a little too small for the imprecise keyboard controls. I feel like this could be far easier to control if it used a controller or tilt controls and the land areas were somewhat bigger. It *is* good for what you could do with just keyboard input. I like that the WASD keys actually move forward relative to the platforms rather than the camera, which makes the game much more controllable.

Good idea and good execution! I quite enjoyed this one, even if it is way too difficult for my liking.
