Terminal/console lover here, you got 5/5, no more, no less..

hadik 2018-04-23 20:56

I like hacking simulator and this one is very minimalistic but neat :) Gameplay for JAM is little bit slow, but still I play it for 40 minutes :) Some better scripting manual will be great. :)

deltanutmeg 2018-04-24 00:18

A scripting manual would be a good idea, thank you for your honest feedback! @Hadik

connell 2018-04-24 00:46

I really like the command line feel. You should see our text graphics game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/platscii it's quite different

mathiouza 2018-04-24 00:56

Cool game, but the starting is too slow I think. I really like the displaying and the sounds.

Cool overall game, keep coding :)

listonos 2018-04-24 00:58

As much as I love terminal games, it just way too slow. Maybe I got unlucky but 80% IPs I have connected to were Beta. Props for having arrow history a man pages, helps a lot, but I think you would need one more functionality and that's tab auto-complete for ips in order for the game to be fun at least from start. I will say fantastic visuals and feel to it. If you happen to add auto-complete or make a post-jam version with better scaling I would love to explore the scripting engine part.

slimothyj 2018-04-24 02:27

I love the theme! The whole orwellian sort of thing going on i suppose. The sound effects were great too. You have a nice keyboard my friend.

drevilbrain 2018-04-24 03:08

Easily my favorite so far. 50 credits for you comrade!

The text editor was pretty neat. I suspect that Vim style shortcuts were planned due to how Ctrl-H works. Also, whats up with using Horst-Wessel-Lied with the sickle and hammer?

andrew-castillo 2018-04-24 03:28

@DrEvilBrain we didn't even know about the Ctrl-H thing! It seems to be something Unity just handles be default. About the music: let's just say that we need to learn to actually check the sources of our 'public domain music'. We've replaced it with something more suitable.

kleinzach 2018-04-24 05:22

It did feel a little slow at the beginning, but once I got that scripting engine, oh boy. The revolution came fast. I don't know if it was a bug, but I could repeatedly steal from the same guy, so hard coding in their ip meant that I could just do script exec win.exe repeatedly. Kinda felt like I was finding exploits in the game itself which seemed fitting. Very cool, and well done. A little bit of streamlining at the beginning would be great and I felt that the use of Unity's post processing got perhaps a little too intense, especially when I'm looking at the bottom left of the screen 90% of the timer where it is most intense. Chromatic aberration is really cool, but it can hurt my eyes after a while.

PS. I was a little disappointed when I couldn't run scripts from scripts, but I suppose that makes sense. Loops could break the game real hard. Perhaps run a certain number of calculations per frame and allow a keyboard command to cancel the script would be good?

andrew-castillo 2018-04-24 05:28

@kleinzach you should be able to run scripts from scripts, but they're sort of buggy so it might just not be working with what you wrote. The post processing effects definitely are a bit too much, especially the chromatic abberation. Thanks for playing!

kleinzach 2018-04-24 05:36

@andrew-castillo yeah, maybe I was just typing something wrong. I ended up just launching an external application and generating the code and pasting it back in. I did like how all of the main functions worked with it. It was a great feat of programming for a weekend, great job once again.

dimaswift 2018-04-24 06:17

This was the most satisfying console I've ever written on. Great idea well executed, well done

togis 2018-04-24 10:11

The console feeling and sound are amazing! The best console I typed in since a long time, you should release a version of your UI and pipe the input to the command line :)

The start is really, really slow though. It took me so much connect scan disconnect list to find enough alpha.. I think you should speed up the beginning of the game by making the initial shop buy cheaper.

gaming-night 2018-04-24 11:39

Graphically perfect, really impressive and with a sound design that fits perfectly :) Really nice game !!

k1mpp4 2018-04-24 11:43

Really loved the game! Blasting from my headphones those mechanical buttons really did the trick! Awesome work both on the audio design and graphical style!

deltanutmeg 2018-04-24 13:19

@Togis Thanks for your feedback! The sounds were recorded from Andrew's (@andrew-castillo) mechanical keyboard with a mic, and we use it for just about any game that requires key pressing sounds.

We've had a few comments describing how the start was slow - perhaps we'll lower the initial entry price for beta/charlie manuals to allow players to get to the scripting system faster.

joe-cowman 2018-04-24 15:37

Fantastic game! The terminal was designed beautifully, and the keypress sound effects were really sweet. I think the concept was really unique as well. My only suggestion is to find some way to reduce the amount of times the player connects to an IP they can't unlock. Maybe on the "list" command it could show each lock type next to the IP? Or it might to be fun to come up with a subtle clue, like IPs starting with two numbers are Beta, etc. Great job though!

dmanzano101 2018-04-24 15:48

I loved your game! I had fun even in the first and slower part because it made me feel the pleasure of hacking. Great job

darfeld 2018-04-24 20:23

I can't play the game... My antivirus is definitely against the idea >_<

karin-strljic 2018-04-24 20:28

My favourite game in this game jam by far. I intended to check out few more games today but played this one for the whole evening instead. It's just so satisfying. Great job!

andrew-castillo 2018-04-25 00:41

@Darfeld antiviruses ruin all the fun.

ultrarat 2018-04-25 03:30

I like the idea, but I also kept getting unlucky and the first alpha lock I found only got me 3 currency and they felt really rare. Good job being super intuitive when I was ready to quit I just typed "exit" out of habit without thinking and it worked.

trulyspinach 2018-04-25 04:00

Very funny. I love the terminal graphics a lot. Everything is so detailed I can't even believe this is made in 78 hours. One thing that really surprise me is when I tried to type 'exit' the game actually exited. You can put a joke when people type in "ls", "cd" and etc. then haha.
