Keep them under control!!! by ArturasD 2017-12-04T22:00:25Z
Had fun playing it! :D A bit more polish and this would be even better! The gameplay is sound. However, money comes in a bit slow for fences and such later on in the game.

@mathiouza Because cats are needy bastards, haha! Thanks for the feedback :)
@meursault - That's one way of avoiding Kitty Genocide.
@elfippo I'm glad it kept you on your toes. That was the intention :D
@corc0 I tried to make it so you could only get by if you really paid close attention to which cats havent been fed in a while. In answer to your question. Each cat starts with 100 of each stat. These stats decrease at different rates. Hunger goes down 2 each second. Dirtiness goes down 1 each second. From what I remember happiness goes down 0.7 each second.
Thanks to all for the feedback :)
@nammflow It says in the tutorial that you earn money daily :) I'll make sure to be clearer about things in future. Thank you for the feedback
@serpentworks-games Thanks :D I'm glad you found it fun. I imagine a tablet would be a lot easier so I'd have to up the speed of stats decreasing to keep the challenge ;)
@arturasd Glad you enjoyed it. Might give it a bit more polish and perhaps I'll port it to mobile :D Thanks for the feedback!
@arputikos Thats a pretty good score :) Letting some cats go hungry and trying to ration your food in the early game can prolong your supply. As it was made for LD40 I couldn't get in as much play testing as I wanted to. I'll probably work on some balancing and stuff later :P
@kbf123 glad you liked it :D
@samuli Not a bad score! :P It's a post apocalyptic world where cats rule and humans are enslaved...or something.
@mr-madcat Glad you like my hastily slapped together doodles, haha! That balancing issue is pretty crucial too so thanks for pointing that out :)
@fangzhangmnm Do you mean contrast? Like the colour scheme being all over the place?
@ciderwrath Glad you liked it! I thought about never ending but then i'd have to increase the money paid daily and stuff and it ended up being more work than i was cut out for. There was originally meant to be 10 cats but I went for 8 instead. That's a good point! I'm considering getting rid of the 'pet' button entirely now. :) Adding alternate art for the cats that they can switch to when you pet them is a great idea.
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you all enjoyed the game :D
I love the concept. Most people focused on carrying and weight for this theme. This game is heavy on your soul. The message is nice too.
The hitboxes are broken and the axes arent right. However, the art style shows a lot of potential and the menu screen is simplistic yet professional. I'm sorry you didnt have enough time to fufill the whole project. Keep it up though guys :) The game looks great on ultra too.
Fun game! Got to about 60 points! :D Only criticisms: Some music and a slightly higher jump.
Great game though :)
Seems to crash immediately on startup for me :/
Great little game! Love the art style. The lil dude is cute too. One issue I had was that I am on a QWERTY keyboard as I am british. I believe the game is set up for french?(Sorry if i'm wrong). It didn't cause me too many issues as its only one key above where I would usually put my finger. I also felt like the controls were a little slow sometimes. I still enjoyed the game and played it through to the end.
Ps. I didn't play the post-jam version so these issues may have been fixed.
I really like the models of the buildings and the player character has a real 'Grizzled 70s Cop' look about him. However, the game was lacking a bit of life. I feel like the abscense of music or ambience drew me out of it a bit. Also for a busy city, I didn't feel like there was enough people. A bit of music and some busy street sounds (sirens, car horns, birds, people, etc) could really bring it to life. Overall, I still enjoyed the game for its humour and graphics. A bit more time and this could become something pretty brilliant. Keep it up
Cute art style. Good concept. The game could use a bit more polish though. I also spawned on a piece of space ship that was entirely separate to another. I couldn't reach it before my fuel ran out. Also I didn't know how to pick up the items and ended up pressing E which immediately killed me.
Great little game. Like a bitsize version of Elite:Dangerous. Fun to play around in and a wide variety of ores, animals food, etc. However, graphically the game is a bit lackluster. I would probably put that down to the large amount of time and effort that obviously went into the programming. Well done regardless!
@thechubbypanda I'm glad you like it! @loooneliest lol? @hailburns It isn't finished yet my friend. The itch page is set to private currently :)
@yukey0 The game isn't published yet
@densin I'll keep an eye out for your game when the jam finishes! Seems like a few people went for the same concept as us but everyone chose a different style! Glad you like the game!
@alpagakira Glad you like it :stuck_out_tongue:
@swini Thanks :) I thought the physics was one of its weaker points but I'm glad you like it.
@sdrrv You really think so? Thanks!!
@apples-mmmmmmmm Glad you like it! Its my first time making a games music myself so I'm glad you like it.
@loooneliest Oh haha glad you like it
@croze You have no idea how happy it made me to read that. Glad my game could fill the void for you. Amazed you enjoyed it that much.
@johan-vischer Damn! How did I not consider that? I'll add it if I ever pick this game up again. The cooldown is 2 seconds in case you wanna time it in your head ;)
Thanks to you both for the feedback!
@rainysolar If you can translate my sloppy programming the source code is included on the itch and ludum pages :) Glad you find it interesting
@team-on What difficulty are you playing on? Orbits and rocket launches are faster on higher difficulties. As mentioned in-game, you can also use the left mouse button which I would suggest on higher difficulties as it decreases travel distance on the button press and can be more precise.
@mshopf glad you like it!
@gettingrekt Glad you liked it! I'll have to give yours a go to see how you did it :) Thanks for the feeback.
@alobker Glad you liked it!
@sekwah41 Praise Be! Yes haha! I was really sick when I took the picture and I thought it was funny.
@iamsodarncool Wow! Thanks for the in-depth review! I'm glad you liked the music. It was my first time making music for a jam. As for the moon thing. I completely know what you mean. The problem I had was that when calculating the speed of a satellite based on it's distance to from the planet. The formulae would typically require the cicumference of the planet. I didn't know how to calculate that within unity so I used the distance between the moon and the earth as a subsitute. This meant that I needed to give the moon a base speed so that it too actually moved. This lead to the issue of satellites at the same height catching up with it and hitting it when in real life they wouldn't (at least not until a long time). So I completely agree with your criticism and intend to fix this issue if I ever pick the game up and continue development. Thank you. This was a brilliant bit of feedback. As for the windows version, I noticed that with a lot of jam games that use the web player I tend to have issues with loading games sometimes. This only tends to be on chrome though. Switching to Edge seems to fix the issue. Perhaps one of my extensions or something disagrees with it. Glad you were able to play the game without any problems. I'll be sure to email you if I need anybody to break webbuilds in the future! :)
@martintristan @grizeldi glad you both liked the game!
@acuriosity Great feedback! There seems to be a lot of demand for some sort of indicator. I'll be sure to implement that if I ever pick the project up again. Thanks
Great game! nice art style and a fun concept. It does slow down a considerable amount when you hit the 4th island, however.
Great game! The concept was great. I liked programming my rockets like a roomba. However, I feel like being able to fine tune the rockets a bit more or perhaps having some more integers to play with instead of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 2,etc. Like having a slider or a number box to enter in how long you want something to go on for. The game is cahllenging and picks up in difficulty fast while still being simple enough to get the hang of quickly. Brillant game. Well done my dude.
Your gamejolt page is currently forbidden friend
@bigjigglyproductions not a problem! I'll give it a go now
I love the concept and the art style presents the game really well. I especially love the spacedust particle that appears and the procedural solar system generation is done brilliantly. However, it took me a short while to work out what to do as there isn't really an in-depth tutorial. Given more time, this game could become something fantastic.
Nice little game. Unique, simplistic art style and good message.Pacing felt a little slow and it could use some sort of background ambience or music. Great game regardless
I got the hang of the game pretty quickly and was getting consistent wins after a few minutes. Perhaps some sort of difficulty scaling could be implemented to keep the challenge going? Also the colour scheme could use some spicing up. However, the sounds are good and the gameplay is sound (albeit a little slow in the beginning). Keep working on it and tweaking it and it could become somethign great!
Would have loved to play but whenever I tried to extract it would crash my WinRAR. Probably just something on my end though :/
I love the music and the concept. It fits the theme and the art is pretty good. However, it could deal with a bit more 'depth' (see what i did there?), Perhaps some more mechanics or some story :)
Great game! Graphics, art style and character design are great. Tongue physics could be a bit buggy some times but I think thats just unity. Gameplay is intense and challenging and had me tensing like a mad man. Managed to stay alive long enough. Loved the use of physics. Brilliant job
Cute character design! Loved the cheesy movie talk in the background. Good voice acting. The quick time event with the talking didn't really seem to vary much. I think I started memorising it by the time I stopped playing. Great game, still.
Hey! I'm from elysias stream. Got to about 700 points. Is that good? My eyes started hurting after a while. It's pretty bright but still fun. A good proof of concept!
Would love if you gave my game a try too :)
A fun puzzle game with nice music and a simple art style. Slight difficulty spike around the 4th level but im bad at puzzle games. Very quick concept to grasp however. Brilliant game :)
Interesting mechanic. Suits the theme well. I like the art style and music. However, the controls feel a bit floaty and unresponsive. Great entry
Interesting use of the theme. Loved the art style and the platforming controls felt smooth and responsive. Incredibly challenging. Enjoyed it :)
Interesting art style and brilliant sound effects on the characters. However, the game could use some music and some of the aggressive cows seem to hit really hard
I love the sounds and the concept fits the theme brilliantly. Would have preffered a little more camera controls and maybe some different enemy variants. I also really like the music. Overall a very solid and funny entry :)
Hits the concept right on the head! Brilliantly challenging and beautiful! The art style is amazing! Made me feel like I was playing Nuclear Throne or Enter the Gungeon (Though I'm sure that's already been said) Honestly, great work. Love how you handled the theme. :)
@rolly Lol thanks. The character art is by far my weakest art in the game but it beats the stick men i was using as a placeholder. Glad you like it :D
@sargonius This project encouraged me to start up a similar project, fixing the issues that came with this game and adding a lot more gameplay features while maintaining a similar theme and art style. Will definitely take that onboard! Glad you enjoyed the game :D
@sockyman What sort of bugs were you experiencing? Also, that sometimes happens on the lowest settings and extremely high fps counts. What graphics option did you pick?
Happy, you still enjoyed.
@popdaddygames It's not my best work but I definitely enjoyed making it! Learnt a lot more about rng and random numbers
@morg Thanks man. That bug blindsided me completely. Tried fixing it but it broke a bunch of other stuff. Game is pretty much a write off at this point haha. Not my best work but I guess I learnt to remember FixedUpdate() instead of Update(). Thanks for taking the time to play and review my game on-stream anyway. Appreciate your patience and understanding as a fellow dev :)
@sockyman I agree with that. Should have played a sound effect or something in hind-sight. Thanks for playing. Defninitely not my strongest submission.
@gamefive Glad you liked it.
@geckoo1337 Sound criticism. Definitely not my best work. Just gonna put it behind me and keep moving forward lol. Thanks
@call-me-nutty Whoah! Best comment yet. Thanks for the feedback. It's really nice to know you were actively thinking for my game. I agree with all your points. It was terrible sloppy coding. I sort of made up the whole game on the go. Building layer after layer of spaghetti code and messy crap. It was a stupid rookie mistake to translate my bus on an update function. In fact. Why I chose to put every game update based on whether or not my bus hit a trigger on a road piece is beyond me. Before this ludum I hadn't even touched unity or C# since the last one (In my opinion, my best entry) and it shows. This entry has encouraged me to keep developing and improving my skills outside of jams and compos. Thanks again for your brilliant feedback and programming help.
@shieldgenerator7 Glad you like it :D Thanks. Combat Bonus can be increased by having an abundance of supplies and passengers to fight and be equiped. Bus upgrades also increase it. :) It says that in the tutorial but to be honest nobody ever reads those lol.
@kamekai Wow! This is far from my best work but it has definitely received some of the best feedback I have ever gotten on a game. You bring up some very key points.
1. You are entirely right! Damn... I should have made it a lot clearer what choices did what. I never thought about that since I was the one that programmed it so I always knew. Very good criticism.
2. I feel partly that the slim window to manage resources was due to the massive error of putting the whole game on and Update() function instead of FixedUpdate() which caused the game to run varying on your FPS. Lower fps = slower bus and therefore more time between events.
I completely agree with all your points and will 100% act on them if i ever work on the game again. Thanks for playing and I'm glad you had fun :)
@kamekai The problem was that I didn't plan anything at all. I just sort of made it up as I went along. If I ever went back to working on the game I would basically reprogram everything from the ground up
@jevgeni-orehhov Thanks so much! I'm not expecting much from it. As I have said, it is definitely my weakest entry so far.
@joror Yeh lol. Its roughly 80% luck I'd say. Glad you liked the game! I also do the strat where you eat most of your guys at the beginning lol. Less people lowers your chance at winning combat encounters though so be careful ;) 71 Miles is pretty damn good :D
Loved this one! Fit the theme great and had a nice art style to boot. Only managed to get a few hits on the boss before it killed me on my first attempt but did a lot better on my second. Still couldn't kill it though. Guess I'm just bad haha. Great game :)
I really like the music in this game :) its simple but sweet and compliments the art style well. One problem would be that the gameplay seems a little slow. Other than that, great submission.
Really had fun with this one. I like the art style and you fit the theme well. A few small problems: Some of the sprites were on the wrong layers. The barn for instance. I can walk under it. Also the gameplay felt a bit slow due to the movement speed the music was also a little repetitive. I still enjoyed it though :D Great work
One of my favourites so far! Love the character design and the concept fit the theme great. However a few small issues. Since your sacrifices carry across the days, the first few days are a bit easy. And because the game buffs you at the end of each day, making it even easier, it takes a while for the amount of souls satan wants to actually start being a challenge. Also, I focused speed for my first run and after a while the character controller started to jitter a little. Besides that, great game. Really enjoyed playing :)
Very responsive controls and tons of fun. The background could have used a bit of variation and I had to turn down the game once I had a wall of bullets destroying my headset. The drones also felt a little OP but thats probably the point. However, very satisfying to play :)
Love the concept and the art is adorable! :) Felt a little bad when I stacked up 3 plushies under a falling door lol. Had a few small bugs with the rigidbodies turning sideways and appearing invisible but still a great game. Well done :)
I enjoyed the game. Art style was cute and the concept is sound. One problem I had was that it felt like the camera moves too slowly. I also didn't really know what my end goal was. Perhaps if there were some missions or something to work against...
All in all, great work! :)
Hi! The game plays well and is definitely my kind of game. It was tense and fit the theme well. However, it took me a little while to get working. This is likely the a fault of unity but when I tried playing in chrome I had this issue https://imgur.com/a/DlxJ28K . Again, this is likely a fault with unity or chrome because I sometimes have this issue with webbuilds. Perhaps include a download link as well? Still enjoyed though :)
I like this one. I love that you mixed it up with sacrifices to the flying spaghetti monster instead of satan or some mayan sun god like a lot of the submissions (Not that they are bad). It was a nice comedic touch.
As for gameplay, the graphics are nice and the art style is simple. One issue I have is that the play character seems to move a little bit slow. But i suppose this makes sense since they are sneaking. The game could have also used a little music. Still, great game :)
Link is broken for me :/
@Holofire Not a problem! Just happy I told you about it early on. Played the game! Loved the music and art style. The gameplay was fast-paced and I could feel the pressure when I really needed a particular card. Sadly it felt a bit unfair or perhaps too random? Perhaps I'm just bad though haha. In general, definitely one of the best I've played so far
Oh my god! Best thing I've played tonight! I love it. Are all these songs custom made for the game? If so who by? Great soundtrack. Great concept! Great theme! I love it. Honestly 5s all round. I found that even after i died I'd end up sitting there on the death screen nodding my head to the music. That last song was my favourite! Who is it by? I must know. I looked forward to each new level simply for the song. The concept was brilliant. I mean it. best one tonight so far.
@johnryanaudio Honestly that last track gave me shivers. The zombie themed lyrics and brilliant instrumental had me getting too into the music to focus. I tip my hat to you sir. 4 brilliant tracks in less time than it takes some big artists to write one semi-decent one!
This is brilliant! I usually type like a champ but this game ruined me. The art is brilliant and the music is great too. If I had one criticism it would be that the fighting sounds dont sound very impactful. More like a light slap. Perhaps give them more "oomf". Overall great game. One of the best I've played tonight :)
It's a great time killer! You should port it onto mobile. i would play the hell out of it
@kamekai Something to do while you wait for reviews ;)
I love the theme! The whole orwellian sort of thing going on i suppose. The sound effects were great too. You have a nice keyboard my friend.
Love the art style :) Had a small bug where my combo wouldn't get off my screen. The game feels fun to play and I like how they pop back up like speedbags
@RodrigoNietiedt These kinds of things are expected in such a short development time. It wasnt exactly gamebreaking so dont worry :)
@DeltaNutmeg Thanks for playing :) I appreciate the feedback. The medkits (Green Pickups) will heal you for 50Hp
@pRoFiT Even I take a few attempts at the first stage. i guess I had the difficulty curve a bit backwards since the boss is easier than the first level from what I've seen. Difficulty was always intended however ;) appreciate the feedback
@mahalis Thanks! Seems like a lot of people are having some problems getting past the first level to be honest. My biggest regret is using a modified Standard Asset FPS Controller. I should have bit the bullet and programmed one from the ground up. Ended up with janky first person movement and weird jump stacking. Ah well. Thanks for playing :)
@GregK Didn't realise I'd put in puzzles haha. I get what you mean. Thank you for the feedback, really :)
@Dekobii Thanks! Was gonna spend the last day polishing up and perhaps adding a few models but college and life sort of got in the way. I'm glad people are seeing it as minimalistic. Entirely intentional I assure you ;)
@Shelvid @Bongard22 Both great points! :) Thank you very much.
Am yet to find someone who can beat it (Besides my friend with some guidance. Literally overhauled my wall of text Tutorial for him with pictures and stuff)
@isopoly Glad you liked it :) I wanted to keep movement snappy for dodging and such.
@ZuhairGhias I'm so happy you found it fun! I'm glad you liked the aesthetic of my game! Controls seem like a big issue. Some people like the snappyness. Some people want it more fluid :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
@OmnipotentIndie Your health is the green number in the lower right corner  (Perhaps it might have scaled wrong. I didn't play the game in any resolution besides 1920x1080. Perhaps try running the game in that resolution.
@Holofire Hello there! Congrats on beating the game! I was beginning to think I had made it too challenging There's a lot of games to get through and I was scared people wouldnt want to put in the time to get the hang of it so thats a releif.
Thanks to all of you for playing. I hope you enjoyed!
@megamasterx Your comment made me so happy! It's nice knowing that people are hardcore enough to put in the time to get the hang of my janky controls and confusing level design. Thank you, honestly. Loved your type-fighting game too.
@rainysolar Thats exactly what I went for! :) Both genres smashed together. Glad you liked it
@Richard N Silva I'll take that onboard if i ever pick the project back up. Probably onto bigger and better things for me now however. Thanks for the great feedback! I'll give your game a crack.
@Jrpl Glad you liked it! I got a CS Bhopping vibe, myself to be honest. Hitting space at the right moment bypasses the weird jump stacking you get from spamming it (Not an intentional thing). I probably should have included a section in the tutorial about health pickups to be honest. Thanks for the feedback! :)
@Yack Sebblen I'm glad that you think the music and graphics compliment eachother. Yeh a few people seem to have trouble getting the hang of the sloppy controls while some like them and think its snappy. Guess you cant please everyone ;) I love that "Perfect game" comment. Made me feel great haha. Thanks for playing
@gonz0 The music was the only thing I didn't make. (Bad at music lol) Thanks for your feedback though!
@pixelproductions I would love to but I didn't really have much vision for it outside of "Something I can put effort into programming that isn't too ambitious" In hindsight I wish I'd put more effort into the art style but it seems to have worked out in my favour. Thanks!
@veilastrum I tried to go for something that was easy to get the hang of after a few tries while still maintaining challenge. I tried adding tips and things on where to go but it was hard to work out how to do it without spoiling the exploration element. Ended up just writing how to beat the game, from start to finish, in the the tutorial lol. Thanks for the feedback! As for the two genres, the game is an FPS / Bullethell crossover :)
@mowztouch Thanks! It was supposed to be challenging and I'm glad you liked the graphics despite them being the thing I put the least effort into lol.
Great game! Awesome soundtrack. Super Challenging. One problem is that I wish checkpoints were optional. Getting put in a harder part of the song with 0 score is kind of a bummer if you want top place
Nice game! :) I loved the character design and graphics. A few issues I had: I wish that the map in the corner was rotated like -90 degrees so that it lined up with the camera. It was still super helpful. Another would be that sometimes when I pressed E to switch to the cannon (nice explosion effect by the way) it just wouldnt switch.
I really liked the character and art though :)
Really liked the music and the art style! I got fairly panicked when I couldn't remember an order and had to rush back to check. Overall decent game :)
Very fast paced! Half expected to start humming Pumped Up Kicks loved the music and art style
Loved it! Great use of the theme. I got pulverized by your AI but the gameplay was too addictive to care. The art style and sound effects are great too! I feel like this is the sort of game pro CSGO players would use to warm up or train their aim.
I really like that you implemented multiplayer. Tempted to get a few friends on to see if it works ;) After successfully killing a triceratops, I proceeded to climb out of the map. All in all it was fun! Don't quite get what 2 genres it combines but I loved the models and the animations were great. I didn't like the rainforest noises blasting into my left ear the whole time though.
Really liked the gameplay and character design :) The music can get a bit repetitive though considering each fight can take a few minutes. Maybe add some more variation to the music.
Out of curiosity. Are the 'moves' random or are they the same every time?
@Ripter itch.io hosts downloads. What were you expecting?
No piece of art is ever finished :) I really liked the art style and the music. You also played to the theme of 2 genres brilliantly. Don't beat yourself up about it. I wouldn't call my game finished either.
Super cute art style, brilliant concept! Only problem I had was the score slightly disappearing off the top of the screen (Very High 1920x1080).
