Great little game. Like a bitsize version of Elite:Dangerous. Fun to play around in and a wide variety of ores, animals food, etc. However, graphically the game is a bit lackluster. I would probably put that down to the large amount of time and effort that obviously went into the programming. Well done regardless!

@rytannic Thanks for playing, I appreciate the feedback!

Fun game, and quite intense with the fuel always ticking down. It seems like there are so many goods that the chances of finding a planet to sell them are pretty low, so I wound up wasting a lot of fuel just flying around with unwanted cargo. My best run was 4400. Is there any color coding of the planets to let you know what kind of goods they have or want? I think that would be useful if there isn't already.

very interesting concept and neat minimalist graphics

@missalpha Thanks for the feedback!

@mrjorts Thanks for playing! Unfortunately, goods generated for each planet right now don't have color (or any other attribute) association. Currently they randomly select five items to buy, and five items to sell at random from a list of 27 items (9 in each category, split by thirds into each quality). Items that are bought, or sold, are then replaced with a randomly selected item once again. Since I didn't have the time to flesh out a more complex system, it's completely possible for a planet to be both selling an item, and buying the same item (or even multiples or said item). It's also possible, though very unlikely, that no planets will be buying a specific item. I didn't want players to be discouraged by longer load times, so I kept the planet generation down to around 90 planets and then world wraps (or galaxy wraps in this case). So, while you might get unlucky right with the current setup, it's quite unlikely that you wouldn't be able to accomplish anything given the initial fuel reserves. While the game loop certainly isn't optimal, I'm glad you found it fun nonetheless.

This was pretty cool! I had a few run throughs with different strategies and realized that usually it's not worth picking up the smaller cheaper items. I love the game progression and there was always the thrill of finding something to sell for 4K :)

Now I did find some interesting thing. It seems that everything is generated on the fly, and sometimes within the same planet you can buy and sell the same item and make free money out of it. I ended up making quite a bit by being a bit lucky.

I wish this game went a bit further in keeping track of what planets offer and demand to create a real space economy. This could be really awesome!

Great job

@karlipoppins Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I certainly would like to create more complex systems but simply didn't have the time to while working on the jam.

I love space trading games! I was hoping to find a way to purchase fuel but either didn't make it to the right planet or it wasn't an option. Nice game and good atmosphere!

apples-mmmmmmmm 2018-08-15 02:47

@matt-tuttle Thanks for the feedback!

Buying fuel is not an option with the current version of the game. If I had the time, I intended on adding fuel/upgrade stations that allow you to increase speed, and fuel capacity (which would then start as a much smaller capacity) by changing the parts on your ship as well as refuel at these stations. To make these feel meaningful, I also wanted to check against what planets have been visited so you could see their goods from a distance if you had already been there, slowly exploring the galaxy and upgrading your ship while earning credits. Obviously I didn't have the time to implement these, so I decided to go a bit more arcade-y with an eventual loss state that was focused around gaining credits.

Liked the music, gameplay reminded me of the classic elite, except it plays way less clunky!

jared-york 2018-08-15 03:57

Good game! I like space trading games. As some have mentioned, buying fuel would have been nice, but I understand you didn't have the time, that's fine. Sometimes when I went to buy or sell something, it would click on the planet instead of the button the sidebar. Overall I enjoyed it though. Keep it up! :)

apples-mmmmmmmm 2018-08-15 04:09

@shp Thanks for playing, and for the feedback! @jared-york Thanks for playing and the feedback! That bug has already been logged, just not fixed yet, but thanks for letting me know regardless!

welliton 2018-08-15 04:17

For me it was very hard to sell any good higher than 2x :/ Or i buy some expensive good, or live in poor with a lot of small ones. But i liked it. i was hoping for some window appears and "oh, thats an achievement" go for it o/ o/ o/

Cool game concept! Looks like a good start to something better! Thanks for bringing it by the stream!

@erebus Thanks for playing, I appreciate the feedback on your stream!

lavinski 2018-08-15 09:39

I like how one planet i landed on had me buy gold ore for 2k and let me sell it back to them for 4k :dog:

smithy 2018-08-15 09:47

Pretty simple game. Music was really good!

raccoon-js 2018-08-15 20:45

Better than the first version of No Man's Sky.

@raccoon-js Lol, thanks for playing! @lavinski @smithy Thanks for playing!

raiponz 2018-08-17 18:19

Nice Concept, that was fun to play. unfortunatly i haven't found any fuel station :cry: . the UI is a bit confusing, maybe it could be improved. and a multiplayer mode would be great :wink:

@raiponz Thanks for the feedback!

I'm not much for trading games but well done. Simple graphics make it easy to focus on trading. However, I noticed there was not a good trade link system going. I went 40 planets without finding another that would buy my cargo. What would be nice is being able to sell cargo at a loss on any planet. That way you don't get stuck with zero credits due to a bad buy.

As well UI could use improvement. It was hard to tell the difference between sections at a quick glance. Using just simple colors would massively help. As well it would be cool if items were color coded by type.

Final thing would be hints at trade potential. Maybe either by default or through interaction with NPCs. This would also be cool if combined with AI ships fly between planets. That way a player can visually see trade interaction possibilities.

apples-mmmmmmmm 2018-08-18 02:54

@darkguardsman Thanks for playing and the feedback! Could you elaborate a bit on the section colors suggestion? For example, would you just want colored background panels behind the ship section and the planets section, behind each good section, or something else?

darkguardsman 2018-08-18 02:56

More of sections in the cargo UI to be colorized. This would make it easier to visually navigate the UI.

Kudos on House Soundtrack! :thumbsup: I'm quite surprised it takes a while to load..

Optional Suggestion: - For Buy/Sell Cargo, color-code items: green (you have in stock and for sale/profitable), red/dark-grey (you don't have them available in stock) - Zoom in/out planet-system (eg. Ascendancy) - Option for player to control-time (eg. SimCity): Freeze, Slow..Fast - Each ship orbit may change the planet's trade-able demands - I've read from comments that refuel wasn't possible.. looking forward to see a post-jam release.

For its time constraints, a nice minimal-esque space trader :dizzy:

@acronaut Thanks for playing and the feedback!

I enjoyed it, especially the mood created by the space setting with the unusual cargo names and a nice bgm track amplifying it. I see other comments already mentioning some UI improvements, that's basically the only thing I'd change - most of the time I was just spamming through all the sell-able items in case I had any of them. But of course it didn't have any negative impact on my experience anyways, just my 5c to avoid being entirely useless with no suggestions and just praise. :P I think this is a good base for a space trader version of FTL or something similar, would gladly play something like that someday should you continue working on the project. And I haven't even noticed that it's a compo initially, so additional props for making such a game in just 2 days. Well done!
