Crate breaker by KerelOlivier 2018-09-03T19:18:08Z
Very nice game, audio and graphics were good. Mechanics were simple enough and enjoyable. Only problem with the game was the controls. As it was hard to slot next to a crate at higher speeds.

Very nice game, audio and graphics were good. Mechanics were simple enough and enjoyable. Only problem with the game was the controls. As it was hard to slot next to a crate at higher speeds.
Great game, love the jokes and gameplay.
Nice game, like the simple controls but could use more work. The audio was a bit lacking and needed some indication of damage outside of audio. As well there seems to be no real goal outside not dying. I think it could use a way to block the slime spawners or have some kind of progress. Maybe even just a kill counter if anything. Over all decent game :)
Fun game, nice mix of new and old.
Great game, could use a little balance work but that is about it.
Very interesting combination of two game styles. Only thing this needs is a high scale resolution and maybe have the r key rotate the blocks.
Interesting concept, but like others have pointed it out it needs some kind of feedback mechanic. It could also use some stats to show how many items are products, stores, and are being sold over time. This way I can tell if I need to buy more buildings of each type. Assuming there is an imbalance between buildings. If not then an imbalance would be cool to force players to make more of each type rather than 1:1:1. Over all the game is good and a great start for a little economy game
Doesn't seem to want to load. The window pops up and closes right away.
Some details: Windows 10 Home 64 bit, AMD FX-8350, GTX 980, 16GB of ram, java 1.8.0_121-b13.
Let me know if you have it compiled on different/unique java version as I can set it up to load with any version. I keep several versions on hand due to work so can easily switch.
Got the game running, had to fire it up via CMD. Also noticed it keeps erroring out trying to find a res/save.txt. A few retries seems to get it running, might be useful to include a batch file to launch the jar. As well something to dump errors to a log file.
Outside of that issue fun little game, love the jokes added to give the missions a story.
Odd but amusing game. Retry button doesn't work but the game... is something.
Fun game, graphics are good, audio was good, and mechanics were easy to use. Over all a great game :)
Very solid game, love the graphics and humor. Only problems were no invulnerability when respawning. As well download is not windows but web based. Outside of that very very nice :)
Visually the game looks good, love the pixel art style and the nice mood lighting. The character is really cool and animates well for movement. Controls are ok, would like some WASD controls but that wasn't a problem. Found it really nice the character could climb up walls. However, I got stuck in holes often without a good way out. Feel like jump could use a bit more range. Maybe even just a nice double jump if anything.
Over all its a decent start for an unfinished project. Screenshot 2018-08-18 00.47.31.png
Enjoyable simple game, graphics and audio fit well. Mechanics and movement were solid. Only thing that was needed was a little better UI instructions to highly the teleport requirement. As I missed this the first time reading the controls. As well a audio or visual effect for when teleporter is ready could be a plus.
I'm not much for trading games but well done. Simple graphics make it easy to focus on trading. However, I noticed there was not a good trade link system going. I went 40 planets without finding another that would buy my cargo. What would be nice is being able to sell cargo at a loss on any planet. That way you don't get stuck with zero credits due to a bad buy.
As well UI could use improvement. It was hard to tell the difference between sections at a quick glance. Using just simple colors would massively help. As well it would be cool if items were color coded by type.
Final thing would be hints at trade potential. Maybe either by default or through interaction with NPCs. This would also be cool if combined with AI ships fly between planets. That way a player can visually see trade interaction possibilities.
More of sections in the cargo UI to be colorized. This would make it easier to visually navigate the UI.
Good little game, didn't get a chance to test the PC + phone combo. However, just the PC version was enjoyable. I loved the simple mechanics and could see myself playing this on phone by itself.
Nice game, could use a way to speed up time. As well ability to change resolution/screen size. Along with better visual information to tell what was going on with room status.
Interesting game, would be great on a phone but lacks feature for PC. Also had the game crash when hitting the plus button. Which I assume bought units for attack.
Also the game could really use more information in the UI. I would like to know the stats of my units and the expected stats of the target. This way I can make a choice on what I should attack based on what I have.
Seems interesting but seems to feel laggy on the web.
@ectucker1 Using chrome but didn't full screen.
Love the old school style, good job
Very nice game, could see myself playing this for hours on my phone. It has a nice mic of good audio, graphics, and the challenges are hard enough to not be easy.
Very impressive game, love the mechanics of movement via a ball and the flipping directions. Only issues I spotted were that you could get the ball slightly into the ground. Which would result in the player getting stuck. Though could eventually get out with repeat ball throws.
Really nice concept, graphics are very nice, but mechanics could use a little more polish. Movement was a bit hard to use with mouse alone. I found myself often between two tiles drowning rather than standing on the selected tile. Digging was also a little rough as it required to be almost on top of the tile. Other than those issues excellent game, going to continue playing it as its fun to build sand castles.
Really nice concept and good quality. Sadly had trouble enjoying it due to the odd controls.
Impressed to see a NES game and of good quality. Love the old school nature, good graphics, and great audio. Only problem was a few areas it was easy to get stuck. As well some spots enemies would hit you before the transition between sections.
Rather amusing concept and great level design. Levels literally were a fun hell to move through as the camera flipped directions.
However, The character could have used some lerp motion or something. As it twitch around so much on my screen a good deal. This was painful to look at and took away from the nice levels.
Over all good game, little work with graphics and it would make for a great cellphone game.
Interesting concept, could make for a great server IT simulator with more work. Would have loved to see more going on in the room. Such as NPCs moving around and maybe even commenting on the work your doing. As well would have liked to see stuff around the room, PCs, servers, wires, tools, broken PCs being fixed, etc.
Other than that the game was ok, there was a bug were the 1024MB shows as a 128 and is placed as a 128.
There doesn't seem to be a download link?
Looks ok but couldn't figure out the objective. Also keep getting stuck on objects and navigation with WASD alone felt odd.
Good concept, with a little work could be a great game.
Simple idea, would have loved to see more mechanics but still good
Simple but interesting game. Loved the simple mouse controls. The graphics were ok but would have loved to see more random rock assets. Jokes were also good but didn't feel like it fit the theme. Overall the game is good and didn't write down the score :P
Nice game, love the simple but challenging mechanics.
Very nice game, I feel in some cases the movement speed of the character and the ice do not match. So very often I find the ice melted before I even get to that part of the area.
Amazing game, you're the only game I've given max points. Love every bit of the game, the mechanics are great, movement is smooth, story behind the game is funny and amazing... very good game. Only problem I had was that clicking punch over and over got tiring. Would be nice if holding click would keep punching or an alt keybind could do punch.
Didn't think this was going to be a good game... but man this was enjoyable to play. With the mix of physics it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Amazingly slow uncompress for the zip, didn't take points off but wanted to point out as it felt odd. I know the reason is all the small files, but I wonder if this is a way around this?
As for the game its good, the mechanics are simple, graphics nice, audio ok (could use work), and fits the theme well. There are problems with the controls. Sometimes I had to click object several times to select. As well it was tricky to get objects into the van after it started to get full. [ ] might not have been good choices for rotation. Maybe something closer to WASD keys as that is normally were the hand rests. Over all good entry :)
Did play it long enough to figure out the bomb codes. However, had issues with falling through the level. Outside of that its an interesting concept, the graphics look nice, and I think there is something this game could turn into with more work.
Fun little game, nice art work, but didn't notice any audio. Would have made a nice addition to help set the mood and pace.
Game seems ok, movement is not visually or mechanically good. Animation looks like a zombie and you can't jump while moving. Boxes can get stuck in corners and can't be pushed out. Its not well explained how the mechanics work. As well the dropping doesn't feel random, sometimes speeding up and aiming for empty spaces making it hard to destory boxes.
Happy the download was a zip instead of rar but should use the name of your game in the download. It helps locate the file in the download folder next to the other dozen games called build.zip
Esc is a bad idea to close the game. As its expect that esc opens a pause menu.
Game pace feels really slow, zombies are not that aggressive and spawn in large waves. This sorta gives the impression of the theme but with the large map it doesn't work well.
Graphics could use some work as well but understandable they are low end.
Other than that ok start of something.
Interesting concept, good story tell, and good music. Not sure I would call it a game but it was good :)
Odd and funny, was a good break from other games. Could use a little bit of controls.
Decent game
Very nice game, would have liked some mouse controls. However, the controls in place were very easy to use. I enjoyed the able to get power ups and the simple nature was great. This is now in my top 10 games of the jam. Great job and keep up the work.
Not sure I get the game, I pick up the first key and keep falling through the level. Then the game tells me I've "F### up" without explaining what is going on. Gave the game a few tries thinking it was a glitch but same result.
Nice game, and thank you for watching the stream :)
Interesting game, could use a little better spawning of cubes. As its very easy to get stuck in a hole.
Looks good but didn't feel in control of what was happening. My hero would auto attack, I couldn't use any of the items, and slowly just died.
Decent game, took a second to get the controls but is fun. Would make for a great cell phone game
Fun little game
Really good game, graphics were amazing and have yet to see something like it. Does need a flash and bright light warning.
Very nice game for being uninished. The audio and graphics were great. The dialog is indeed the best part of the game. Sorta wish it was finished. Would love to see in the finished version some better movement and walking animation :)
Very nice game, you did a good job fitting the classic arcade style. Really would have loved if you got some keyboard controls built into the game. Could have used WASD for movement and arrow keys for shooting.
Nice idea for a game, and a great start. Does need a bit of work, audio for movement was a bit annoying. As well the character moved to slow to make it to points quickly. Other than that overall good game.
Fun game, movement could use work as jumping would get stuck while moving forward. Would also be useful to drop the player off next to the trader and also show the current item on the HUD at all times. Little bit of physics on the objects after they drop would also be cool. Had several moments were trash floated in the area and would not fall. Over all good game :)
Enjoyed the game, needs a little work. Quit button does work, and mechanics are not explained before starting.
Really nice game, could use a little slower screen on the first level. That way players can get use to the concept before failing.
Oddly couldn't get the web version of the game to run. The windows version seems to be missing files.
Gave it a second try and got it to run. Think the issue was with my graphics settings in chrome. Normally I have chrome set to not use my GPU has it bugs out. I switch over to my backup copy of chrome with default settings and it worked. Still very laggy to play in web, would love if you could package up a windows copy so I can give it a proper test. To make a windows build in unity make sure to include all generated files. Feel free to use this script I used for exporting my game https://github.com/DarkGuardsman/Space-is-running-out-of-space/blob/LDJAM42/UnityProject/Assets/Editor/MakeBuilds.cs
Looks good, great to see a java based game.
Couldn't get the game installed. The package failed to open, and getting around it with 7zip was missing dlls
Nice looking, but no gameplay :(
Interesting concept and love the art style. Had a few problems with the controls. Seems movement didn't always want to activate. As well I seem to be able to move when paused.
Impressive to see a javafx game. Normally I see people use at least openGL for graphics.
Anyways the game itself was ok, units died faster than I could get new ones. Attacks seem to have an AOE as I lost 3 swordsmen from 1 arrow. Units outrun the player so its hard to keep them alive. Finally money seems to come in too slow to gain new units.
Additional to this the game seems very laggy. Not sure if this was due to it being java or javafx. Hard to say even for someone like me who has been coding in java for 10 years.
Interesting idea, but controls are rough. Took me a while to figure out z activated UI elements. As well could never figure out how to move any other direction than sideways.
Interesting concept, controls are a little odd. Was expect space to jump and esc quiting the game is a bit annoying.
Visually it looks interesting, however it lacks good information on controls. It also lacks information on the goal and I feel it doesn't fit the theme. The only thing close is the fact items fill up the house. However, it doesn't cause problems and clear out items is super slow. However, I got a few laughs out of the game so you got some points :)
For anyone else testing arrow keys are movement, x picks up items, c drops items, v places stuff in compost.
lol guess this is an example of UI design if a few missed the how to play button. Good solution might be to place it at the bottom with the rest of the buttons, highlight it at the start, and show the controls when the level first loads. There are likely other options to solve the UI problem.
Very nice game, enjoyed the text style mixed with a little inventory system. However, couldn't tell how this fit the theme.
hmm makes sense, guess I never got to a point were I ran into that problem. Was always running out of items instead of space... still a good game :)
Well made game and good humor on the orange giant.
Graphics are good, but mechanics are rough. Movement bouces the view around too much. Running to each rocket feels more like work than fun. Audio could use some work, could use some audio and visual notifications of fill level of rockets. Should be a way to clear destroyed rockets. Interaction could be done with mouse instead of M.
Lastly the game might have done better as an above RTS style of economy game. In which you could see all 4 rockets at once and just pressed buttons to fire. It would bee a little less interesting but mechanically would feel more solid.
Beyond that good job would like to see were this goes.
Very nice game
Love the character and the good physics. Its strange but works well for the style of game. Only problems with the game is no warning for the incinerator. As well the controls are a bit tricky at times. Over all a great game and a good laugh.
Not my style of game but has a good quality too it. I think this game would do well in the same groups that play papers please. Good job
High quality game but there is nothing to make it a game. Really could use more content, slower O2 loss rate and a challange.
Nice concept, took a while to catch on to the mechanics. A short description would help with this. However, its really enjoyable game. Could see myself playing this on the cellphone for a few hours.
That being said I do agree that there is no way to predict wall changes. This is something that could be nice to have. As the current state is random guessing.
Game looks good but doesn't seem to work well. Movement is odd, animations for movement plays while harvesting, logs can't bee seen through grass, and building doesn't seem to do anything. Over all the game seems to be unfunctional
Good concept, nice graphics but couldn't figure out how to destroy things.
Nice simple game, really enjoyed it and had a few laughs when I saw the giant soup can followed by a small book.
Did notice that you can push objects through the wall which will break the logic. Screenshot 2018-08-13 22.53.19.png
Nice game, good graphics, and audio. Had a few problems with spawn rates. Enemies would come a few at a time and then would not spawn for several seconds. This made pacing a bit odd. As well would have liked a little more HP. As baiting enemies next to dead ones is a bit rough. Then to get one shot feels bad. Overall good game :)
Interesting game, physics were not very good with collisions being non functional on some objects. Several times I flew right through the ground. The controls were very strange, I would have loved to have some yaw movement instead of just pitch & roll. As well controls are inverted making it hard to get good movement with a mouse. As well the keyboard movement is unusable. Its very hard to reach Q & A at the same time. Latest thing the game didn't really fit the theme other than to be in space.
That all being said its a good start of something. With better controls and more lively danger mechanics it would be nice.
Interesting game, got a good laugh out of the sound effects. Mechanics are good as well but there seems to be some graphic issues. In which tiles turn black as if missing before turning.
Nice game, thought the pacing was slow at first... but it seems to ramp up as you keep going. Got to a point were I had to start acting like a leaf on the wind. Love the concept of cargo space feeling up with creatures. Acts as a nice health mechanic. Over all the game is good, though could use a little work. Mainly some improved spawning as a few times I hit a sold wall of objects.
The concept is rather good. With a little work this could make for a fun game. However it has some problems that need to be fixed. Start first with the control description in the UI. Its a bit hard to understand and could use some images to better define the controls.
Next issue is that controls are rough to use. Rocket took several tries to learn to fly and due to the hard handling was very difficult to land.
To go with this issue there seems to be no way to rotate the blocks. Only rotation seems to be to invert the block over the y axis. This makes it impossible to play in a few cases. Especially when the first block is a wide block that will block the landing pad.
Overall its a decent start and could be enjoyable with more work.
Interesting concept but the pace was too slow. Also seems to be an issue were the turret cost 70 but only consumes 20 when placed.
Could use more of a description than "The game shows a mechanic that might be interesting for a platform-puzzle" as not all of use know what platform games normally contain.
The mechanic itself is nice, I think I have seen it before. However, it feels a bit lacking in presentation. The first areas were not bad but then you hit areas were the door instantly slams down. Not in a slow way either. First few steps the door creeps down. Then when you get next to the door it slams 50% of the way down. This leaves a rather poor experience.
Over all the idea is nice, the game is ok and the levels need work.
Possible suggestion is to have tiles already stepped on not repeat.
Love the style, art work, and jokes inserted into the game. All though it took a while to figure out its one of the nicer games I've tested today.
Text seems to have some issues display and goes under buttons.
The game is interesting, I like the simple building survival nature. Nothing really wrong with the mechanics though would be interesting to sell buildings.
Nice game, audio & graphics are good but felt the world closed in too fast.
Interesting concept but needs more work. Would like to be able to destroy units and capture them. For example if you capture all the tiles around a tower it should be captured. This way the units can change hands to give a sense of capturing the board.
Simple game that might have some potential. However, I think it needs actual controls over moving the wheel UI with the mouse. As well due to the speed and the camera movement it was easy to get sick.
Good game, visuals and audio were really nice. Only problem was the movement. Screen based movement would be much nicer than character aimed movement.
Seems more like an interactive book then a game. Though I assume someone might like it. However, I feel it could use animation/images, even if simple.
Interesting game, art work is good and audio gave a good mood. Not really fun but that might be due to the style.
Really hard performance and seems to be no way to get to the end. However, I had a good laugh so you got points :)
audio and graphics are good. However, the controls are a bit too hard to use. WASD for movement, space for jump would be much nicer. Also took longer than I like to admit to get through the UI. Using Z as an activation key rather than enter is strange.
Good game, graphics are on the low end but that goes well with the simple nature. Only problem I had with the game is the controls are a bit hard to use. Normally WASD is for movement and arrows for firing in other games of the same style. Personally would have liked mouse support but that is fine.
Also killed the orb at the center of the goo but nothing happened. I assume everything is still WIP :)
Not my type of game but could be interesting if it was a cell phone game.
Nice game but the movement would work so much better as screen relative instead of ship direction relative.
This might be the best game I've played so far. Love the keyboard usage and the fun little graphics. Great jokes inserted into the game. Over all great game and would love to see this continued.
Link is broken, let me know when you get it fixed would love to test it out.
Fun game, love the use of modules that wire into each other to create outputs. It makes the game a challenge to combine everything to get to the desired result.
Ok concept, could have used some screen size settings. As well took way to long to figure out which image on the screen was the character. As the character looks the same as the NPCs. Would have been nice if the character was a different color or had an outline.
Fun little puzzel game, would have loved support to move to the next level without the mouse. As well support to run the entire game from the mouse.
Also this would make a great cell phone game. Since you could just click to each tile to move.
Very nice, would love to play this against some buddies. Audio is a bit strange but the rest of the game is nice.
Also the web version doesn't seem to go beyond the controls UI.
Ok game, needs a lot of work. The level could use brighter colors, movement was slow and left/right click didn't do much. Was expect some kind of tail animation to show movement with swishing. Pearls were easy enough to find and the map was ok. However, camera would glitch often and ran into a few render problems. Last problem would die instantly toughing surface water. Would be nice if there was a damage delay with camera fade.
Additional to this the game opened on my secondary monitor instead of main monitor. There seems to be no option to fix this or run the game in windowed mode.
Over all good start, with a little work I can see this being fun.
Nice simple game, good graphics, and nice audio. Didn't hear any music which I think would have made it great.
Seems the download zip has issues extractingScreenshot 2018-08-14 18.22.48.png
Turns out 7zip can open the zip without issues. Gameplay was good though UI elements need some work. Was very hard to see the aim icon and arrows. Other than that a decent entry, good job.
The arrows in the how to play UI could also use a bit of different color. Didn't even see them due to dark gray on black background. I suggest rather bright UI elements when dealing with dark backgrounds :)
Fun little game :)

Thank you everyone for the comments and feedback :)
@joseph-manley Object count is as much to give you stuff to collect as to also be a danger. Good suggestion on the effects, its something i've add to my list for future improvements after the JAM is over.
@iori-branford I'll see what I can do about camera angles. Still learning how to use the cinamachine follow camera in unity. I have a theory to add an game object in front of the ship for the camera to track.
As for everyone else, ya controls and speed of junk are rough. Wish I had more time to work on both. In future versions I plan to add option to switch between camera and drone orientation for movement. Just in case people do like separating the movement from the aim direction. I'll see about adding difficulty options for junk speed and physics as well.
@joschi I agree its a bit big, I made it smaller before releasing but not small enough. In the future I'm likely to add options to scale the play field. As well decrease the area to make it feel a little nicer. Sound is also a thing that will be added :)
@george-lancaster I thought about doing controls like that but wanted to give more freedom of movement. That way users can align there ship with the fast moving objects. Sadly I didn't get a chance to switch over to ship relative movement before releasing.
@sebastian-m Thank you, Tempted to work in some story/dialog into the game in the future to go with the lore. Maybe some kind of campaign to teach the controls and explain the backstory. Will go well with the planned upgrade system and ability to create structures.
As well I would love to get music but skipped it to save time. This is the first game I've released and only 2nd I've made real progress on :)
Loving all the comments, movement is going to be the first thing I adjust next time I work on the game. Also likely to include movement boosts as upgrades later. In addition to more movement indicators to help get a feel for the speed.
Also for those that couldn't get windows 32 working I made a new build. Figure out that unity will overlap data for both 32 and 64 in the same folder. I've also packaged each OS version as its own download to help :)
Good idea, uploaded a few images :)
@yaro Something like that is planned as either an upgrade or separate ship for future releases :)
I might add a mini-map but am unsure as that would take up some screen space. I do plan for some more detailed navigation arrows. In theory that might help when combined with other mechanics.
@cydouzo Your comment is fine, hard criticism is very useful and would feel off if no one gave me a little. Plus most agree with you on the slow pace + control problem. This was even something I was aware of before releasing. However, I came in late into the event and decided to focus on other aspects. Such as making sure there was a world border, adding movement to scrap, and adding good physics. The newest code on the git has solved movement being slow and future plans are to improve on it more. Pacing will also likely be scaled by decreasing play field size and adding difficulty settings.
The description is a bit longer than what I normally do with stuff. Had a little fun and felt there was no point changing it. Its likely to be changed and included in the game directly in the future. Rather than being setup in some info page for the game like it is here. No worries also about being forced to read it. I love adding skip buttons to any dialog I include in projects :)
Also, No worries on me trashing your game... unless its bad :P
@fluffy-kaeloky Thank you, UI was something I made sure to get running. As I find it annoying when games lack even simple pause functions and ability to exit the game via a menu. I plan to expand on the UI a lot in the future. As I really enjoy usability when it comes to game design. Audio is also planned :)
@eduardo-yukio Sadly I didn't have time for a tutorial or to fix the movement. There is a rough info screen that does note the goal is to collect scrap. The points you got were likely random scrap flying into the collector at the center of the map. Sorry it was frustrating future versions have already solved most of the problems. However, waiting until after the dare to release.
@carlos-giraldo Thank you, the hook mechanic was something I add randomly. Not something I've ever tried before but felt so much nicer than storing the scrap in an off screen cargo box. Background movement is also planned, along with more effects.
@pnghasemi I agree, the pacing is not what I wanted. I was looking for casual collection game but made it too slow. Missions are something I do plan to toy around with as a solution to several problems. This will include a story campaign to explain the mechanics and controls. As well small missions tinside the current mode (which will be called endless mode). These missions likely will involve chasing down dead stations, satellites, and other large junk to get large scrap drops. I might even tie in the upgrade system with this concept now that I think about it. Would prevent people camping center and waiting for scrap to fly nearby.
@eric-kulbiej sound? lol, it has no sound... but thank you :)
@cppchriscpp NP, thank you for trying it out. As well I already have a new version that will be released soon with better controls and UI elements.
Thank you everyone for the feedback and trying the game. This was an enjoyable first game jam and game release for me. I look forward to releasing more games in the future for ludum dare. As well I will leave all downloads up for free and will leave the source code up as a thank you.
Also, I will have a post jam version up here soon solving some of the problems. Most importantly the next version has in game keybinds, video settings, and ability to switch movement style. You can change from ship based and screen based movement. As well disable mouse movement to use QE for rotation. This allows anyone to customize the game to there player style. Future versions will expand on this to allow controlling movement speed and acceleration. Along with stronger controller and gamepad support.
Other improvements also include changes to collisions, improvements in performance, and a decrease play field to increase pacing. Quality of life improvements have also been made to some UIs. Including a way to use TAB key to navigate UIs without the use of a mouse. This will be expanded on to also use arrow keys and some hot keys for non-mouse users.
Good game, movement needs a little work. Other than that nice to play
Any chance you could post a guide on how to get the game to run on a Ubuntu. I have a VM for testing but its been too long since I used it last.
Interesting game, couldn't figure out how to get adjacent numbers to vanish. It think some visual guides would help with this.
Great game, did really feel like it fit the theme. However, it was very enjoyable to play. If found myself playing it longer than expected. As well the stand in audio got a few laughs out of me. Good job :)
Ok game, would have liked to see some WASD controls. As well the game doesn't feel like it fits the theme. Only running out of space part is too many enemies shooting. Of which it gets nearly impossible to dodge... which feels generally bad. Good arcade shooters try to create patterns to allow movement. While also making the player think they are in danger.
Site the file is host on seems a little sketchy. Had 3 pop ups show and I clicked one by mistake due to the site not being in english thinking it was the download. If it wasn't for my AV software I might have installed something other than the game. I suggest next time hosting the files on something like itch.io, github, or just dropbox.
For some reason the game seems to want to load on my 2nd and 3rd monitor randomly. It doesn't seem to care about my primary and have yet to figure out how to fix this... might be unrelated to the game.
Last issue not sure why the game is over 600mb for a simple 2D game. I've noticed this with other unreal engine games. Wonder if this is a way to optimize download size as I'm not seeing this with other engines.
Out side of those issues the game is good. The art work and music are great. I would have liked to hear some sound effects for shooting and damage. As well the jump for forward motion felt to much. I did get a good laugh out of head bouncing enemies so you got some extra points for that :)Screenshot 2018-08-16 14.45.34.png
Very nice concept, took a while to figure out the mechanics of how damage worked. Thought for a while you had to stack it in front of HP. Instead you just have to put all the damage items into your inventory. Which quickly becomes a challenge and fits the theme well.
Very interesting game, art work is nice and audio is funny. However, I couldn't figure out the keyboard controls. Didn't seem like a character had spawn that I could control or controls were not responding.
Interesting concept, didn't make it too far due to the unity web part breaking. However, from what I could see it is cool.
Controls could also use some work. WASD movement didn't seem to work well and arrows key movement felt chopy. Also seems the moving wall can push you right through objects without issue. I rode the moving wall a good 5 mins before death.
Simple and fun little game, good job.
Visually looks good, simple enough to play, and contains most of the components for a game. Main issue with it is mushroom spawning and uplift on wing flap. This makes it very challenging to make progress as either the mushrooms are too close to be useful or too far apart to take advantage of the bounce. Also doesn't match the theme but seems that is optional :P
eh pacing really kills it, wanted to love it as it matches one of my favorite classic video games. Especially with the old school graphics and mechanics. However, it felt so slow to move around and fire rate was not high enough to kill everything. Also might I suggest a .zip file for windows instead of rar.
Really enjoyable game, simple in mechanics but with a little puzzle twist in what you need to capture. Only issue is it doesn't fit the theme.
Was not expecting a tower defense but was enjoyable. As a prototype its good, but for a game it needs more work. As others pointed out it needs a bit more of a delay on start. I would also suggest more of a level layout to give some time. This would also help deal with rushes of enemies coming in right at the decay time of the towers.
Love the simple nature of the game and great use of the theme. Would make for a great phone game with a little more work. Such as adding more things to avoid and power ups.
@vinegarlove Yep, mechanics are bare minimal. I originally planned for some environmentals such as light causing damage, spike rocks, and falling objects. As well a range of hostile mobs and power ups to spice up the gameplay. Hopefully if tris is on board we will continue this project into an actual game. We already have a more indepth plan moving forward involving wide range of fish, boss fights, and leveling mechanics to give purpose to consuming blood (level up to defeat the boss).
@dikkop Yep UI needs a lot of work, really only hit the minimal to make it playable. Honestly the hardest part of this was not the team but lack of planning. I did nothing the first day, a few hours the second, and only added art the third day on my lunch break at work. Honestly the art work is the only thing saving it XD
@aqws3 yep animations would have been amazing. Neither of us working on the game know how to animate sadly. Guess I get to learn :P
@benmcnelly Yep, wish I had 1 extra hour to clone the menu from my LD42 submission. As it had a pause menu, custom controls, settings, graphics, etc all ready to go.
@ristoretto I might have to google that word 'macabre' but I think I get the idea. One of the things on my todo list was to add floating chunks of meat and red water. I think I might keep going with that theme if Tris is up for it.
@benmcnelly Yep, was thinking the same of creating an empty project as a starter for the next one. This one also suffered from me not doing any prep work before hand and not having used unity for a while. So short of copying 2-3 scripts I basically played by combo rules making everything from scratch.
Nice simple little shooter :)
Needs a little more work, less jarring audio and smoother camera. Other than that a good start to something.
404 :(
Interesting concept, not much of a match for the theme but was happy to see a little village management game. Sadly could not seem to get it to work long enough for a good test. Crashed out a few times in firefox and couldn't get it to load in chrome. May I suggest a desktop build as web unity seems to be funky at times. Though when I did get the game working it was not clear how to progress. I could see 3 options to build but sacrifice seemed to do nothing. When I clicked villagers I got a game over after 2 clicks.
