LD42 — Running out of space

Reasonable Claustrophobia by SkullPixel 2018-08-16T04:25:48Z

Wow, how? HOW?

I can't believe this is a Jam game. It's so polished and looks so pretty at the same time! It plays, looks and sounds like a finished product! It even had a BOSS! The only thing I would criticize is that the walls' mechanic --which I love and is really original by the way-- did not feel very important to the gameplay until the boss. Other than that, excellent team effort.

Seriously, congrats.

I made you a pic:

@skullpixel lol, go for it, my dude :ok_hand:

Glad you liked it.

Pretty neat!

This game had fun mechanics and a great use of the theme, the art was great too! The only thing that displeased me was that it took too much time for the game to not be a cakewalk. I cleared most of the beginning by just moving left and right, but that's not too much of a problem.

Great game overall.

I liked the character a lot:

Loot Keeper by outstar 2018-08-18T19:14:08Z

Woah, what a project!

I kid you not I had this exact idea but you guys executed it 10 times better. The art excellent, I loved it!

I would've preferred to rearrange stuff using the mouse alone and maybe rotate stuff with the mouse wheel or right click. It was kind of weird to click stuff and then move it with the keyboard.

But the game was pretty awesome, specially for a Jam game. Congratulations on the superb team effort!

I drew you a quick thing, hope you like it:

Ball on keys by ludum1118 2018-08-16T01:44:41Z

I love that the game feels and sounds like an old DOS game. At first I got very confused until I payed extra attention to the screen, and to my surprise, the map IS keyboard!

This is a really interesting concept and it is unlike anything I've seen before so I believe some fleshing out could probably lead to something really cool.

If I had anything to suggest you to improve is to give an indication on the map about where the keys would be. Most of the time I ended up trying to calculate which key was related to the wall I wanted to create, but with a fast ball moving around it becomes kind of hard.

Overall this is a great concept and I would tell you to improve on it. Congrats!

Here's a small gift:

**[Edit]** Hey, by the way... I saw you rated my game before I had the chance to edit the page. I would appreciate it if you went back to it and gave it a proper review if possible. Sorry for the hassle.

Great job!

I liked how the game focuses on the jam's theme and the progression of the game. The controls are a bit weird but the art and sound are unbelievably good. I can't believe you guys had time to include a seed system and an online leaderboard. You madmen.

Here's a lil' fan art:

@lurkinmcclerkin Thanks a lot! :smile:

Hey, by the way. Can you please tell me how you made the table with the name, description and looks of your enemies that is on the top of this page? I don’t see how on the Markdown guide and would love to have something similar for my game’s page.

Hey! Congrats on your first Ludum Dare. If you keep on participating you'll notice how much you'll improve.

Great first entry. The game is a little bit basic but I liked the idea in relation to the jam's theme. The artwork is pretty neat as well!

Great job.

Here's a little something:

Dodghell by ChicoDeLosMates 2018-08-18T19:10:39Z

To be honest this is the most fun one I've played so far and that's quite a lot to say since this is also one of the simplest I've played.

I played the both the web and APK versions and it was fun. I curious how it could have played with gyro controls.

By the way, I noticed your hitboxes are a bit off, take a look:

This was a great game, congrats! I made you a quick thing:

@sarah Weird. I received the notification for access. Try again, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey everyone, thank you so much for leaving your opinions!

@sarah

Thank you so much, that means so much. I'm sorry you had this inconvenience, I'll have to check on it.

@nicksmaddog

Hello Nick. You're right, I tried making the characters as representative to their abilities as possible but it seems like it's not enough. From what I've seen most people skip the instructions listed on the page, which is not their fault. I need to think of better ways of explaining the specters IN-GAME. Glad you found the game promising as a multiplayer.

@darkguardsman

I'm happy you liked the soundtrack, my dude. You can buy it on Bandcamp. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@martintristan

Hey Martin. Glad you think it's promising as a multiplayer. I was afraid the game was not balanced enough.

@triplefox

Yeah, I think I should've included instructions in-game but I ran out of time, I might do that later though. I tried to make the specters as representative of their abilities as possible (attackers have sharp teeth, catchers are a hand, bombers are literally a bomb, etc.), but it seems it was not enough. The symbols are a great idea and could go on the seed bags, some text as well but I don't know if that would be too much.

As for your f.lux issue I don't know what to make of it as it is something that was on you. Color planning and contrasting is something more complicated than it seems (at least for me lol) and I assume that a lot of other competitors were not able to do their art as optimized as possible due to the time constraints as well. I would suggest you to not use f.lux or any other filter while you review LD entries.

That being said, I believe that specters may be hard to recognize when clustered together so I tried swapping colors a bit in order to make them stand out a lot more. What do you think of these possible changes?

As for the bug, that's the second time someone complains about it and I have no idea what it is. I'll have to look on it. Thanks a lot for posting the error message.

Thank you so much for the long comments. I'm not really sure if you liked the game or not but I'm glad I got all this feedback. Thanks!

@noxalus

Haha thank you. My artstyle makes it really easy to mass produce assets so I take advantage of that.

I made that feature on purpose but I don't know if it's too powerful, haha. But if it works then help yourself. :shrug: :laughing:

@stefan-jovanovic

Best game so far? Woah, that's quite something, thank you so much!

Also thank you for being comprehensive about the crashes... You wouldn't know what caused it, do you?

Derpy the Unicorn by Vodzik 2021-10-07T02:13:26Z

In the end I gave up on building the hay tower and eventually got up to the party by mashing A against a mountain and accumulating vertical speed. Probably not the way it was intended but I had a blast playing this with my peers, the game is super silly. Really good job! πŸ¦„

At first I tried using my numpad and it didn't work quite right, but then I quickly realized I could use my regular number keys. I screamed out loud when the enemy following was getting close to me, hahah. Very neat game! πŸ™‚
