Very cool game, the way you introduce the tutorial in the game is brilliant. I would pay to play a full version of this game! The controls feel great and the shooting too. Great job guys in so little time !

alien 2018-08-14 06:26

Epic Game!, The graphics, Sound track, The gameplay just straight up awesome. It is quite fun to play it.

historymaker118 2018-08-14 06:43

Great little game, excellent graphics. Had a bit of difficulty timing my evades with the roll mechanic not feeling too responsive, but maybe that was just me. I really like the visual style, very well executed.

beepyeah 2018-08-14 08:27

i was watching the development of this game on twitter! the shrinking wall is one of the best mechanics to go with the theme, because it can be used to kill enemies. would like to be able to shoot from ladders, and jump off ledges : ) !

theinventor13 2018-08-14 09:33

Hey, followed your account after i saw you working on this during the jam, glad i got to play!

hjalte 2018-08-14 13:38

Amazing entry! I love how the wall-mechanic was used in multiple different ways. Everything worked almost too well for a gamejam and the graphics are beautiful. So cool.

traffle 2018-08-14 15:21

Awesome game! the one thing is that it seemed to me that the running out of space mechanic almost always benefitted you, and not the other way around.

djlink 2018-08-14 17:29

love this game, probably the one I spent more time playing so far. I love what you did here, my own game is a bit similar (shooting creates more wall) but this is so clever, love how you used some limitations (not moving from stairs or dropping) to create even more challenging puzzles. Well done

dylan-shumway 2018-08-14 17:59

I love the way your mechanics tie so cleanly into each other and can serve so many flexible purposes! Seeing the walls being used both as a punishment for poor planning and a reward for thoughtful shooting is super cool! The game is also a blast to play, feeling super smooth and polished. Can't wait to see what you make next!

starven 2018-08-14 18:13

This is a great entry! Beautiful graphics, fantastic game mechanics and use of the theme. Great music and sound too. No criticism here, really well done.

wowa 2018-08-14 18:43

Pretty solid and well working concept, really well executed and most importantly it's fun to play!

nick-rafalski 2018-08-14 19:02

My favorite game so far! Everything is great. The lack of a jump is such an unnatural feeling at first, but it makes the game so unique and strategic. Clearing a level (after dying 10 times figuring out where not to shoot the walls) felt super rewarding. Great audio and graphics too, but the best part is the main mechanic and level design. Just great all around

andy-d 2018-08-14 22:26

Wow, I love this game! Your graphics and animation are awesome, and the sound effects and music are great too. The gameplay is fast and smooth and compulsive. I managed to beat the game and I really enjoyed using the walls to take out the bad guys. Superb!

glaciereclipse 2018-08-14 22:55

Super polished game! The graphics and the feel of the game are amazing. The mechanic was very interesting and I loved exploring it in each level. The mix in the levels between solving the puzzle and the action in them was very well done. Also great job in including a boss :)

tekugare 2018-08-15 00:01

I really liked the look of your game I had a fun time playing it to. I had a harder time with the dodge so I kind of wish it was a crouch, and/or I wish player bullets could destroy enemy bullets. I liked trying to balance how many shots i fired to avoid blocking my path. Thank you!

superpokeunicorn 2018-08-15 01:38

This game is really clever. I like how the walls closing in make you slow down and take a more cautious approach, since spamming bullets will get you killed. It almost feels like a puzzle game in that sense. I also like how the enemy bullets can also activate the wall, making it necessary to take enemies out quickly. But what's really smart is how you can use the wall as a weapon to kill enemies, adding an extra layer of depth to the experience. I also appreciated the final boss fight at the end, making the game feel complete. On top of that, the art is fantastic and the music is super groovy. My only real complaint is at the lack of level variety. It would have been nice to see more different kinds of enemies and obstacles as you progress, although I suppose there's only so much you can do with the time limit. Overall, this is a really fantastic game that was a blast to play. Amazing work!

icxon 2018-08-15 03:25

Awesome game. Love every aspect of it. The boss could have some damage animation or HP-bar though. I assumed that I supposed to hit it against the spikes at first.

Here is my playthrough:

saucygames 2018-08-15 03:47

pretty fckn awesome, gg. Favorite way to kill them is with the wall.

skullpixel 2018-08-15 04:05

@icxon thanks so much for recording your playthrough! It's not often that happens, and is also super useful for seeing what people do when I'm not in the room with them.

micdoes 2018-08-15 08:25

Super fun with levels that make you think, looks and feels like a Nitrome game!

mitus 2018-08-15 09:05

Very nice and addictive game. This tiny gunner brings a too big gun that causes missed shot at melee range. That annoyed me a bit. May u guys make another phase (with another boss)? I can't satisfy with just this.

seconddimension 2018-08-15 13:07

Very nice retro look as always. I think this was a really clever take on the theme, good balancing act between taking out enemies easily and restricting your movement. Great job!

eclahn 2018-08-15 17:19

My only criticism is that the game is a little on the easy side. All the rest is great! Nice music and sound effects, well made graphism, smooth gameplay and level design, even a boss fight! I enjoyed the game very much, congratulations.

jima 2018-08-15 18:30

Wow I really enjoyed playing your game! It is very polished, plays like a fully finished game! Good job!

nidup 2018-08-15 19:12

What a blast! Great entry on every aspects, from concept to game play, mechanisms, feedback, smooth controls, ambiance with music and sounds and level design with a rich content. Special mention for the lovely pixel art  Definitely my favorite entry of the Ludum Dare 42. Congratz! :rocket:

coachsisyphus 2018-08-15 20:33

Totally awesome; if I ever have half your skills one day I can die happy. Great job!

aug 2018-08-16 01:27

Awesome mix between arcade shooter and puzzle elements! No complaints other than it feeling sorta bad when you miss a gunshot simply because you're too close to the enemy.

alej 2018-08-16 03:51

What a game! Amazing. From the tutorial it felt like a polished game already. @icxon: nice! thanks for that let's play.

ganonwarrior 2018-08-16 03:57

Wow what a fantastic job! Nice music, nice graphics and an exceptional gameplay mechanic. Good Job guys!

posho 2018-08-16 04:25

Wow, how? HOW?

I can't believe this is a Jam game. It's so polished and looks so pretty at the same time! It plays, looks and sounds like a finished product! It even had a BOSS! The only thing I would criticize is that the walls' mechanic --which I love and is really original by the way-- did not feel very important to the gameplay until the boss. Other than that, excellent team effort.

Seriously, congrats.

I made you a pic:

bandygrass 2018-08-16 05:15

Came for the pixels, stayed for the gameplay. This is a ton of fun; could really see you expanding on the concept, too, and turning this into something more robust in the future!

luxry 2018-08-16 05:53

Awesome game! Looks so amazing.

ekilibr 2018-08-16 11:01

Great idea, very well executed :) I found in your game kind of the same approach that I had, meaning walls getting closer are a tactical element in some levels, while in other it's used to put pressure on the player.

Well done!

alex-adedge 2018-08-16 12:39

Really slick graphics with this one, super polished all round, good work!

jin9310 2018-08-16 13:13

Really nice mechanics that works perfectly with the theme, Had a lots of fun and the level design is handled really well. Good job!

pass-me-the-controller 2018-08-16 14:28

Really polished game, with great graphics and gameplay. My only gripe is that I did feel like the controls were irresponsive at times. This might not have been due to the controls themselves but rather the small platforms that you had to frequently move/fight around. But I appreciate that's part of the point of the game.

Anyway, a great game, really enjoyable.

holyblackcat 2018-08-16 18:23

You did great my friend! Everything is on point: gameplay, graphics, music, level design...

skullpixel 2018-08-16 18:50

@posho is it cool if I post this to my twitter? (I'll @ you) Also thanks so much, I'm glad you liked the game!

posho 2018-08-16 23:46

@skullpixel lol, go for it, my dude :ok_hand:

My Twitter handle is PoshoDev.

Glad you liked it.

shell-pirate 2018-08-17 09:21

Good entry! The graphics were nice and pleasant looking and the music was upbeat and energetic. I think your take on the theme was well executed and simple to grasp, yet with some potential behind it. My main issue is the slightly slow pace of certain things such as movement speed and especially respawning. I thought having to press R on every death was unnecessary and slowed things down needlessly. Absolutely keep the option to restart, just make it so dying automatically resets the level. Additionally, maybe speed up the respawn time because I feel the little letterbox transition was a tad too sluggish, if nice looking. Overall, good work!

kokonaught 2018-08-17 22:57

One of the best entry I played, great take on the theme, the mechanic is very original and the levels are fun even if the boss lacks visual and audio feedback when he takes damage (I was not sure how I was supposed to kill him at first).

I love the artstyle and the music was great. I'm just baffled that your game lacks a respawn after death feature with that level of polish. Excellent game, well done!

skullpixel 2018-08-17 23:37

@shell-pirate & @kokonaught yeah, I have no idea why I didn't do that. It's really simple to do too.

trevor-hayes 2018-08-19 20:25

There is a bug where you can complete the level while your dead. It's exploitable as a shortcut to levels where the door is above you. Simply close in both walls so that the red strip is in line with the door, then close either one the whole way crushing yourself. You bounce off the walls upwards to victory. (If you are not the developers make sure you play normally first this game has excellent design.)

skullpixel 2018-08-19 22:18

@trevor-hayes thanks so much for finding this!

joloujed 2018-08-21 15:22

Very nice game, the characters and the world feels very interesting. The mechanic is very nice. I founded very stressfull that one bullet you are dead, I hit the wrong key all the time. Not use to use x and z. Very good game overall.

vekstr 2018-08-23 11:25

I felt like a secret agent shooting some poor guys in the split second after arriving at the scene, and gosh that felt *good*. My only critique is that the boss was too easy (spammed like 5 bullets and I won). Well done!

ithildin 2018-08-26 12:33

Wow, the level of polish is amazing, and gameplay echoes retro games with a nice twist that adds some depth, I really liked that you could actually use the decreasing space to defeat some enemies.

This could easily become a full game. Brilliant work!

jungle 2018-09-01 20:11

Outstanding game mechanics to fit LD42 theme. Congratulations, very solid entry.
