15 more rating guys! We can do it!
A fun little arcade shooter. Even if the starting screen made me think that my computer crashed, I had fun throughout the entire game. For the first playthrough the unicorn population got out of hand, but on my second genocide, erm I mean playthrough, I could keep them under 20, then winning shortly after. Overall this is pretty decent for a compo game, and did I mention that this game has a 2-player coop mode and is made in 2 days by a single person? Bonus points for that.
PlushieUnicorn.png *The bomb has been defused, counter terrorists win.*
This puzzle game is pretty unique in this jam, furthermore it fitted the theme perfectly. I loved every moment of it, so I don't have much criticism to give. You guys made a great game!
Save the Tomatoes!.png *Just another day in the backyard...*
I love management games, failed twice before understanding that workers are extremely important, as they make building ships way faster than the population growth. Finally won on my third try. I enjoyed *Population Crisis* quite well, but I think that research is pretty underwhelming. Currently, you can win the game without doing any research, that's what I did on my third try, but I guess that be added as an achievement as well. Overall a good management game where you have to balance the population, your money and research. Oh did I mention that the music is a bit... er... Let's just say its out of tune... :(
PopulationCrisis.png *I won't even comment about what those space ships look like.*
I had so much fun playing this game! It mixes platformer with puzzle elements, and nothing's cooler than those abilities. I approximately beat the six levels in 20 minutes. And it took me 5 more minutes to get to the key at the end :P (For my completionist OCD). This game is very well polished and I would recommend others to play it. It reminds me of the puzzle-platformer games you find on newgrounds. Overall very fun and I would want to play more of it.
Aeromancer.png *A well deserved break for the Aeromancer*
That was one fun game, battling against the AI was very satisfying. The artstyle is unique, simplistic, compelling and very effective. But I really hoped that you could destroy the enemies' buildings but sadly it wasn't implemented. You have a gem right here, I bet people would be ready to pay for a full version.
Sword and forks.png *Hopefully the planet doesn't explode from overpopulation.*
I love this game. I am personally a fan of the type of games that put you in a room and you have to complete a set of tasks to win. This game was very relaxing and the mood was perfect. Seeing those gold coins drop into the buckets was very satisfying. For me, this game had the same mood and feeling as the game "My little blacksmith shop". You could feel yourself being a craftsman in that room, crafting jewelry out of gold and waiting for people to buy them. It felt like I owned the shop.
Golden Shackles.png *I'm going to be rich!*
Very well polished, this was a fun game to play.
This game lacked a tutorial, but I quickly figured out that you needed to improve the companies' opinion of you. The game has the same feeling as the common clicker games out there, but instead of clicking, you simply wait. Could be a nice time killer if it wasn't that short, I personally completed it in under 3 minutes. Maybe I got lucky and hired good Authors.
Oh boy this was a fun game, sadly there is no replayability. It fits the theme perfectly and it was humorous.
DoorOs.png *https://growyournose.xd, clearely not something else.*
This was fun! A great puzzle game, simple yet challenging. The art and sound effects were spot on, the tutorial was very effective, and I got into the game quickly. The sudden acceleration of the bus was a nice touch, and it made me chuckle a bit.
Personally, I found that the aliens got unhappy too fast, especially those who have 6-7 turns before leaving. Also mind control aliens would control each other and make everyone leave later, they probably should not be able control each other.
More alien types would be a great addition to the game, and maybe use drag and drop instead of clicking twice, but that's just me nitpicking.
This is definitively one of my favourite games in this jam.
SpaceSubway.png *In space, nobody is happy.*
Nice and refreshing game but the controls were way too overwhelming, I feel this game would be better as a coop game where one person controls the people and the doors and another person controls the elevator floors.
GoingUp.png *Where did the virtue of patience go?*
The game really had a similar feel to the other "___ Simulator" games. Wonky physics, bad controls, name it all. I carefully stacked all the produce in my cart only for it to explode everywhere as I walked forward. The produce also seems to like to get stuck in walls. Overall it was fun and I had a good laugh playing this.
Shopping Simulator.png *"Mission failed, we'll get 'em next time."*
Neat entry, this shooter was simple but fun, I would play a full version if it existed.
WhoZForDinner.png *Cornered*
The presentation is great, tutorial is within the world itself on billboards. The manual is pretty neat too. However I do think that the small inventory was a bit forced. You have to stack all the food and water in a pile, then move it when the water level goes up, rinse and repeat. If you want to keep the small inventory I would suggest a way to quickly pick up the items (maybe shift click?), and a "drop all" button. Also the game window is tiny. Since I have a 4K display the game was unplayable. I had to turn down the resolution to 720p to see the text. But overall I really liked the game.
Alive.png *Almost there...*
I love the type of games that puts you in a room where you have to complete tasks. This game was very challenging, and all the cubes that piled in front of the blue slot entered it by themselves. I can see this game being expanded by adding different tasks. And maybe have something like papers please where you have a story and each day becomes more and more difficult.
RecyclingFrenzy.png *"This is going to be a long day..."*
A fun tower defense game, since it is real time and you need to act fast, some hotkeys for building and rotating would have been nice. Otherwise there's not much to criticize. Pretty solid game here.
PAB.png *"Houston, we have a problem."*
A classic side-scroller where you have to dodge stuff, but with a caveat, you're the one moving uncontrollably towards the "enemy". And the lack of gravity doesn't help. Pixel art was very nice. The music was a bit repetitive, but acceptable. The graphics remind me of SS13 for some reason. Overall I had fun playing this game.
Get To The Airlock.png *A uranium crystal in its natural habitat, capturing prey*
It was a pretty good visual novel, you nailed the mood, story, artstyle and the voice acting. Its hard to believe they were done in merely 3 days, and that's a good thing. But I personally think that the it lacked a bit of gameplay. It felt more like a story rather than a game since there wasn't any choices or meaningful action to be done. But overall this was pretty solid, I was impressed.
Very fun concept, fits the theme very well. I think it wouldn't be far fetched to see this game being released for android tablets and ipads.
The art was nice, but I could not hear the music for some reason, so I left that rating blank. Killing the routers was very satisfying, and the game kept me hooked until I found the ISP at the end. Overall pretty solid.
BandwidthZero.png *So satisfying...*
Putting limitations on a game's music and art gives it an unique style. This space shooter was chaotic and fun. Reminds me of games from the late 70's.
Interstellar Stupidity.png *"The space revenue agency is here to collect your taxes! Defend your wealth at all cost.*"
Great game, the graphics were fantastic, so is the music. The game was very well polished, reminded me of the type of games like mini metro. In my opinion though, this game better suited for the mobile market rather than PC due to its simplicity. It would make a great time killer, on the bus or waiting for someone/something. I can see the game being expanded much more, and that's a good quality. Many games have limited gameplay options that limit their expandability. There were some balance issues but those can be ignored due to the time constraints of this jam. It's hard to believe such a well polished game could be made within 3 days, since i've seen many more early access titles having less polish than this.
SpaceOut.png Good graphics, good music, procedurally generated gameplay. Should make a great mobile game.
The mood was solid, and the game did give me goosebumps, so props on the horror/theme aspect. I usually post a screenshot with my feedback but to leave the surprises unspoiled, I left it out. However not being able to see the player while the camera was not centered exactly on the player made navigating around in the dark very disorienting. The game should at least provide a center of reference for the player.
@sohakes @zicboy @luckydaisy @kostbllb @phlip45 @zeta0134 @mrserp **Thanks everyone for your kind feedback!** Every single criticism/feedback is duly noted and will be put on review. If enough people are interested we might turn this into a full-fledged game. The story we wrote is already far more advanced than what is in this "demo". They were only left out due to time constraints.
@ramanujo Do you have the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer? The game will not start without it.
@killing-kitty @awix @darylsteak @isubka @notlivingpool Thanks for the feedback! We are happy to hear you enjoyed it as much as we did when making the game.
@g4mr @comenoha Poor Hans, he's the one doing all the hard work and decisions. At least he's in good shape, that is if you keep him that way.
@acdimalev Thanks for the feedback, we actually are considering changing some game mechanics as they felt a bit forced. We think you are right, the debris should appear somewhere as a card icon in the settlement, at least to indicate they exist. Maybe also scrap the top right counter altogether for blank icons in the main screen. Also, the weird flickering is caused by my shoddy in-house engine. ;) I am currently fixing it. I hoped and hoped during the jam that it would not appear to much and not be too much of an annoyance. Sadly, not being able to dismantle buildings is one of our forced game mechanics. We are trying to change that, maybe allowing deconstruction but it has to be somewhat punitive. However we do believe after one or two retries the player will be smart enough to figure out a balance of what to build, and won't need to deconstruct anything.
@alexrose Thanks! We really appreciate the fact that you liked the writing style. We were trying to go for an unique style where it is both serious and funny at the same time, I'm glad that you found the story amusing.
@greenbluebit Your feedback blew us away too! We did not expect someone to like our game this much.
@thefoppian @shapkofil We really went full throttle on the text-only aspect. It was our goal to try to make old-school text games look like the modern style games have nowadays. I'm glad the UI was compelling enough for you guys. Wow! I'm glad you guys took your time to give us both constructive criticism and commendation. We're sincerely happy that you guys liked our game.
@furiouswitch Your Java installation is probably corrupted, try installing the newer JRE 11 or reinstalling Java. Try opening cmd.exe, and type "java". If the command is not found, your Java path is not registered. Reinstalling Java should do the trick. Or you can find your java.exe in programfiles/java/bin/java.exe and run the game from that.
@furiouswitch Oh, you're using linux, are you sure typing this in the console doesn't work? `java -jar SpaceSurvival.jar`
if you're not in the right folder you can type the full path like this
`java -jar /home/folder/folder2/Unfortunate_Story_of_Hans_v0.02_LDJ42_Final/SpaceSurvival.jar`
@furiouswitch I didn't test the latest version on Linux, I don't have a Linux system right now but I will test it soon and get back to you if I find anything wrong.
@furiouswitch The latest `v0.02_a` has a hotfix for Linux users. The buttons failed to trigger if the game couldn't play the sounds. Edit: `v0.02_b` fixes most sound problems found on Linux machines. Linux support is more complicated than anticipated. Some OpenJDK implementations are different from Oracle JDK implementations, causing unanticipated bugs.
@team-infernus Yea, may one day the Captain find his tendies. @jaydek We didn't forget accessibility features! @hueson Thanks for the feedback!
This was a fun and addictive game, I hope we can play more of it in the future! The Tetris music is nice and the pixel art is good. However I think that the merchants with 6 chests are a bit annoying, they run fast and since the chests are so small you can often misclick. I think it would be better to be able to directly grab the closest tetris peice using a hotkey. Also there should be some wait time before the combat starts. It keeps preventing me from getting that last adventurer/trader. But overall it was a very fun game, a lot of potential here!
RunINN.png *"Sir, they keep stealing our gold!"*
The game is pretty solid, but I would have liked it to start slow, so we could read the item prices, then ramping up the challenge by picking up items faster. I think that the cooldown on the drop action is rather unnecessary, especially when the drop rate is only slightly faster than the pickup rate. That is me nitpicking though.
An interesting twist to stacking games. Challenging enough to keep playing until it becomes too easy. The circumference increases as the radius increases, so the game actually becomes easier until the challenge disappears completely when the stack touches the block spawn. You can then just spawn them inside the stack.
Build Out In Space.png *Who knew space elevators could be a form of art*
Was a very nifty idea, however I do think that the difficulty curve was way too high. Going from "normal intelligence" to the next level was nearly impossible. Also, was the distracting background music playing over the "memorize the tunes" intentional? I ended memorizing the numbers instead. Overall a good idea for this theme.
A fun little game that uses a game mechanic inspired from the traveling salesman problem. Sometimes you have to drop people off on larger (but still sinking) icebergs to save them all. Sadly the game is only three levels long, which means a player can finish it under 2 minutes. I would have loved to play more, as it is an interesting take on the traveling salesman problem. Great art, but no music. Overall pretty fun and challenging, but too short.
Save the dudes.png *Sometimes you need to think outside the box*
A good old typing game, was challenging enough, good job with this game.
A fun little game where you throw everything you got (literally) at the enemy. The graphics are splendid and reminds me of games like Besiege and TABS. The music is very good. Overall this game is very satisfying to play. But if I were to suggest an improvement it would be on the drag and drop controls. It would be nice to also have the option to simply click instead of drag and drop (for the lazy people), as it would be faster. Right now the icons can sometimes be too small and when you miss it, you don't realize until you've dragged your mouse very far, and that causes you to miss your attack.
SlayTheSlime.png *Throw all the swords!*
I agree with @digitaldude555 , and also the meteors don't seem to do anything to tier 3+ buildings. You can either wipe out the first city immediately or wait and then you can't win anymore. But nevertheless I had fun trying to wipe out the cities.
