Great entry! Really impressed by the simple but effective art style and the narrative is pretty good! Theme was definitely met by all aboard the SP4-C3, and the sound effects that are there were nicely satisfying.
I would have liked to hear maybe some ambient background sound or music, but given the constraints of the jam, that's totally a fine oversight in the wake of the final product.

FYI the windows build isn't working for me.

For a text based game, I'm impressed with the graphics on display. Go figure. XD
Love the story integration, things are pretty polished. Got stuck pretty early by building far too many material factories at once, one restart later I had a handle on things, and died to monsters and my own poor planning. Overall the mechanics were sensible enough. I love unfolding games like these. :)
My biggest source of confusion was the space used / remaining meter, top-right. I never really could figure out how my space was being calculated; later in the game I discovered that debris was a thing. Is that displayed anywhere? Being able to see debris more clearly (if it was there I couldn't figure out which number it was) and the space consumed by active buildings after they were built would have been super handy. That's nit-picking though, overall this is pretty solid!

Good job. I think some background music would have gone a long way and also I think the font was just a tad hard to read for me. Other than that I really liked the story and the decisions you had to make.

only looked at the screens but will definitely download and play after job. love good ol' text games!
Really nice text based gameplay. Really liked the interface you guys put together.. had a Papers Please feel to it which i loved.
Think that a really simple few tracks for the intro / day to day gameplay would have added a lot to the overall feel. Really enjoyed the presentation and the overall idea

I spent quite some time playing it. I like the idea. I was somewhat confused about the debris vs space thing, but I think that the debris is some kind of punitive measure if you let your things be destroyed? I also wasn't totally sure about how to defend from monsters. Probably bunkers and maybe decoys?
Both fonts are also somewhat hard to read, the futurist one only because it is too small and I don't know how to make it bigger.
Anyway, I really like the concept, the writing is awesome and the game is charming overall. Hope I can find the chicken nuggets if you guys finish the game :D!

@sohakes @zicboy @luckydaisy @kostbllb @phlip45 @zeta0134 @mrserp **Thanks everyone for your kind feedback!** Every single criticism/feedback is duly noted and will be put on review. If enough people are interested we might turn this into a full-fledged game. The story we wrote is already far more advanced than what is in this "demo". They were only left out due to time constraints.
@ramanujo Do you have the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer? The game will not start without it.
This is one great game! Really am looking forward to the rest!

A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
An interesting and fun strategy game that I enjoyed quite well. My only complaint is that it takes awhile to read through the words, but overall, quite fun.
And damn those monsters ripped me apart.

This was pretty good :) I hope you do some more!
Excellent text-based game! The interface was clear and the game wasn't hard to understand. Good job on the text-scrolling dialogue in the beginning, I know from experience how hard that can be to implement ;).

Couldn't find those chicken nuggets :'( - first java game so far.
The idea along with the story are excellent and go really well together!

Love the storyline! although I am still upset that I never found those chicken nuggets...
Cool game. Style works well; content flows. It was doing some weird flickering thing-- not too sure what's up with that. Any reason not to let the player dismantle their own buildings? Also, I generally agree with the other comments about debris. Have you considered having an icon for debris and just letting it sit amongst the other structures? Might be a little more intuitive.

looool, something about the wording in this game is endlessly amusing to me, mad props to the writer

@killing-kitty @awix @darylsteak @isubka @notlivingpool Thanks for the feedback! We are happy to hear you enjoyed it as much as we did when making the game.
@g4mr @comenoha Poor Hans, he's the one doing all the hard work and decisions. At least he's in good shape, that is if you keep him that way.
@acdimalev Thanks for the feedback, we actually are considering changing some game mechanics as they felt a bit forced. We think you are right, the debris should appear somewhere as a card icon in the settlement, at least to indicate they exist. Maybe also scrap the top right counter altogether for blank icons in the main screen. Also, the weird flickering is caused by my shoddy in-house engine. ;) I am currently fixing it. I hoped and hoped during the jam that it would not appear to much and not be too much of an annoyance. Sadly, not being able to dismantle buildings is one of our forced game mechanics. We are trying to change that, maybe allowing deconstruction but it has to be somewhat punitive. However we do believe after one or two retries the player will be smart enough to figure out a balance of what to build, and won't need to deconstruct anything.
@alexrose Thanks! We really appreciate the fact that you liked the writing style. We were trying to go for an unique style where it is both serious and funny at the same time, I'm glad that you found the story amusing.
@greenbluebit Your feedback blew us away too! We did not expect someone to like our game this much.
@thefoppian @shapkofil We really went full throttle on the text-only aspect. It was our goal to try to make old-school text games look like the modern style games have nowadays. I'm glad the UI was compelling enough for you guys. Wow! I'm glad you guys took your time to give us both constructive criticism and commendation. We're sincerely happy that you guys liked our game.

Nice and simple. I hope you'll continue working on this after the rating period is over.
Hi there, I wanted to play your game but I can't seem to be able to run it. I have open JDK java8 runtime. When double-clicking nothing happens. I tried to choose java from open with menu and still, nothing happens. I have linux OS. What should I do?
P.S Thanks for playing my game and the nice feedback :)

@furiouswitch Your Java installation is probably corrupted, try installing the newer JRE 11 or reinstalling Java. Try opening cmd.exe, and type "java". If the command is not found, your Java path is not registered. Reinstalling Java should do the trick. Or you can find your java.exe in programfiles/java/bin/java.exe and run the game from that.
I don't think it's corrupt at all because I use it to export to mobile all the time. I don't want to mess with it because it took me so long to install it correctly on Linux (beginner Linux user here). I'll try to see if there is a solution to the problem online.

@furiouswitch Oh, you're using linux, are you sure typing this in the console doesn't work? `java -jar SpaceSurvival.jar`
if you're not in the right folder you can type the full path like this
`java -jar /home/folder/folder2/Unfortunate_Story_of_Hans_v0.02_LDJ42_Final/SpaceSurvival.jar`
Good job
@bloc97 Hello again, So I finally found out how to make it run by choosing the correct java installation and it runs okay at the beginning but then when the dialog end and I want to build the factory I can't. I click on it nothing happens, I tried dragging it still nothing. Since you have more experience with Java do you know what's wrong?

@furiouswitch I didn't test the latest version on Linux, I don't have a Linux system right now but I will test it soon and get back to you if I find anything wrong.
Great game! Really enjoyed the theme and the decision making~
Pros: - Nice mood and interface - Fun experience
Cons: - Not very clear on the resources (what is being produced, when/how space increases...) - Couldn't find nuggets...
Obs: I know I'm not suppose to consider what happens after day 30, but just curious why my buildings started to disappear and then a game over happened by day 35
Cheers!

@furiouswitch The latest `v0.02_a` has a hotfix for Linux users. The buttons failed to trigger if the game couldn't play the sounds. Edit: `v0.02_b` fixes most sound problems found on Linux machines. Linux support is more complicated than anticipated. Some OpenJDK implementations are different from Oracle JDK implementations, causing unanticipated bugs.
@team-infernus Yea, may one day the Captain find his tendies. @jaydek We didn't forget accessibility features! @hueson Thanks for the feedback!
This was really interesting. I really like the user interface design. Well done!

Really good idea of gameplay and good use of theme! I like the design too. Nice game ;)
@bloc97 Hi again, so I downloaded the hotfix version (thanks for the extra effort) and finally played your game :)
I like the novelty of this game and the storyline is very interesting. I played text based games before, not many but some, and I always like them but adding the base management to the mix was a great addition here. I think space/material/debris/parts combination need some explanation because I didn't understand most of it, to be honest. I tried to build a building when my space was full and then my buildings started to be destroyed. Is this because there must be some space to build another building? If so then how do I get more space? I chose once to prepare the base for defence and that cleared some space for me but these events are rare so what is the alternative.
Regardless of all this, I think the complications in resources could be the reason for this game's success if you used it wisely meaning that it needs to have a clear purpose. Maybe it already does and I just didn't figure it out, I'm not sure. But I enjoyed playing this game a lot and I see big potential for much more. Well done :)
Text seems to have some issues display and goes under buttons.
The game is interesting, I like the simple building survival nature. Nothing really wrong with the mechanics though would be interesting to sell buildings.
I really like the storytelling and the retro-artstyle was also nice. You should maybe add a way to destroy buildings. I didn't know how to build the space-reclaiming facility, because i either didn't have the space and resources or i failed because i waited for too long. Maybe an option to clear the debris would help. A screen where you could see your current resources like an inventory or something would also be really nice. But, overall a really nice game!
Wow! lots of people have played this. xD But, i really liked this game. It was surprisingly amazing. I felt the grip of the lack of space, the threat of the monsters and the thirst for the quest to find them nuggets. And then i lasted quite a while before finally being annihilated because i didn't have any defenses. :D i couldn't figure out how to sell buildings i already built. Nice!

The core loop can get really addictive, might want to continue development on this. Brilliant use of the theme too, took me a while to figure that out haha. Also the modern font was a lifesaver. Great Job :)

I liked the Graphics, and the Gameplay was fun, Nice Game.
cool!
I love what you were going for, unfortunately I didn't really know what to do after the first couple of days. There wasn't enough space to build anything, and I wasn't sure how to increase the amount of max space I had. I tried a couple times, varying my build each time, but I couldn't really understand how to proceed. Perhaps a tutorial/walkthrough?
