nice job!)

deadeyejoe02 2018-08-15 08:25

Very interesting game, good job !

edgelord 2018-08-15 18:08

Only windows download :(. Please add a macOs/Linx/web build

bloc97 2018-08-15 18:16

This was fun! A great puzzle game, simple yet challenging. The art and sound effects were spot on, the tutorial was very effective, and I got into the game quickly. The sudden acceleration of the bus was a nice touch, and it made me chuckle a bit.

Personally, I found that the aliens got unhappy too fast, especially those who have 6-7 turns before leaving. Also mind control aliens would control each other and make everyone leave later, they probably should not be able control each other.

More alien types would be a great addition to the game, and maybe use drag and drop instead of clicking twice, but that's just me nitpicking.

This is definitively one of my favourite games in this jam.

This is so well polished, the sound effects, the screen shake the animations and the artwork - all great. Had fun playing the game too - would be nice to have a button for when your ready to depart - a few times I wish I could've rearranged a bit more after placing the last passenger - I guess I should've thought ahead more.

colletto-gregory 2018-08-15 20:29

Hey guys, your game is pretty good. The ambiance the name of station I very enjoyed to play :)

Like @s-knight says a button ready to space travel can be interesting. The eater-alien, dont eat large alien ? (Sorry I'm not good with naming thing)

If you want to have more player you can easely (under unity) make a HTML5 game. Add some planet or background behind the train can make some beautiful effect.

It's difficult to deal with unhapy passenger and new passenger. Perhaps the red bare can only upgrade with the state of mind of the passenger when is travel is done. It would be nice that, some seat have special effect or suit to a specific type off alien, upgrade can be buy each 5 station, and you have a strong rogue like train simulator game :)

Sorry I'm alerady far far away, guys good job, and this project have a lot of pontetial.

isubka 2018-08-15 20:48

@edgelord We'll add a webgl build soon, sure :) We'll make a post when it's ready!

@bloc97 We consider the drag option! But we had to do what we thought it was faster to implement :( Aliens run out of space in the subway but we definetly almost run out of time this Ludum! hahah

@s-knight @colletto-gregory First, we had a timmer for placing the aliens and those who weren't place after that time added annoyance. This was pretty stresful and not fun at all so we decided to remove the timmer and let the people all the time they need. Since we made this change so late we didn't even think about that! But yes, I agree it will make the game a bit more fair

Untitled.png

One of the most polished game I had the chance to play here in the jam!

Sounds, graphics and theme are just really great. The game is intuitive to play, it feels right. I am really impressive by what was able to be done in just few days!

I am sure a pause menu would be added with more time.

pixelformedstudios 2018-08-16 00:51

I really loved this entry, probably taking the spot for my favorite. It was polished to perfection, the audio was amazing (especially the deep sounds of the space travel) and the concept was both outstanding and well executed. A really great job!

bisente 2018-08-16 11:58

Very cool! :D

koala-squad 2018-08-16 17:55

I don't know why, but the web version (Which is the only version) shows a pink missing texture the moment you click play game. I'm using Microsoft Edge browser, and the rest of the game does run right, so I'm not sure what's going on. I can still play the game "Normally", but I can't see what I'm actually doing...

novodantis 2018-08-16 19:09

One of my favourites so far (and not just for being a fellow alien-intergalactic-transport-system game :) ). The level of polish here is stunning; animations, flourishes and sound design. Nor does the gameplay let it down, either; presenting a tricky balance of needs and interesting exchanges between the alien types. Top job.

isubka 2018-08-16 19:39

@pixelformedstudios @amba @novodantis thank you so much! Happy you enjoyed the game ^^ @koala-squad oh, that's bad to read, sorry :( It's working fine in chrome and firefox. Anyway, we just added again the windows version to download :)

koala-squad 2018-08-16 20:13

With the windows build, it's time to rate! Great job! The art is VERY well done, along with the audio! The mechanics are also pretty solid, with it being simple, intuitive, and pretty fun! There is an issue that messes up the game though. When you click on the big alien, you are unable to click on another alien until you move the big one, which can completely break the game on occasions. Other than that, truly outstanding work!

Cheers! - The Koala Squad

isubka 2018-08-16 20:16

@koala-squad Thanks! We weren't awere of that bug! We'll try to find some time to fix it, thanks for the feedback :)

memel06 2018-08-16 20:36

Extremely polished and super fun. You also nailed the jam theme, and SFX were incredible.

Very well done, this is an absolute 4 star overall game.

Thanks for making this, guys!

doctor 2018-08-17 19:29

This game is really cool! Graphics are well made, sounds are fitting. But unfortunately the game crashes when nobody leaves the train and every seat is occupied. Can you fix that?

skippynose2 2018-08-18 03:12

I really liked the graphics and audio of this game. I also liked the new twist of the theme. This was also the first game that was a puzzle. I also like the galaxy names and I really enjoyed the different things each aliens do. Overall great game really enjoyed it.

isubka 2018-08-18 15:38

@doctor Sure! We'll have a look! @skippynose2 Thanks! We are happy you liked it 😛

ryanjavanshir 2018-08-18 21:13

Wow I really loved the mood of this game, and the polish is impressive! Great sfx and innovative gameplay! Well done.

tymus 2018-08-18 23:47

The game's kinda hard, it may benefit from an easier start. but it looks and feels so good, you did well !

smuhlaci 2018-08-18 23:50

I liked the game design very much!

carlos-giraldo 2018-08-19 00:22

This is truly impressive. Great level of polish across the board. In terms of balance, it's pretty hard to keep people happy, and I believe one doesn't have enough tools to not avoid feeling frustrated. Overall, this is still one of the best ones this jam.

raktou 2018-08-19 01:15

Very good game! One of the best worked so far!

isubka 2018-08-19 11:36

@ryanjavanshir @smuhlaci @raktou Thanks!!

@tymus @carlos-giraldo Thanks! We know is a bit hard. We didn't want to create a game where you can during and hour with no end. Anyway, it´s true sometimes it can be kind of unfair. Do you have any suggestions to improve it? :)

flaterectomy 2018-08-19 14:01

A really nice game, from the concept to the art and audio. It didn't take long for me to figure out what tactical decisions to make. I normally spend some time in my comments trying to deliver useful graphics criticism but I have nothing to criticize here. High level of polish, great work.

haberworks 2018-08-19 14:50

very nice work! polished and fun entry. the puzzle was clever and a great take on the mechanic. definitely had a bit of learning to figure out how to best manage the car. nicely done!

isubka 2018-08-19 15:21

@doctor bug solved :)

@flaterectomy @haberworks Thank you so much for your words :)

lastleaf 2018-08-19 17:52

Very interesting! It is a very special management game with creative concept. Graphics and sound effects are also great and matches the game. Well done in every aspect. Loved it.

doctor 2018-08-19 19:46

Good job guys! Going to test it again ;)

laura-angel 2018-08-19 21:07

@lastleaf Thank you for your comment! Glad you liked it :)

@doctor Hope you can try it now, thank you for your time!

balance686 2018-08-20 00:47

Very polished! The graphics and audio are great. I like the look of the aliens and also the effect when traveling through space. You used the theme well and I enjoyed the mechanic of having to decide where to place the alien based on its preferences. Excellent submission!

nihilaleph 2018-08-20 02:15

Awesome puzzle game! Loved all the assets, great mechanics, very well polished!

A minor point, but I feel it would be convenient to have a button to send the train off instead of it automatically going after you settle last passenger, and maybe a way to swap two passengers?

Oh and I didn't get actually how the hungry alien chooses his pray

Cheers!

stefan-jovanovic 2018-08-20 23:38

Amazing amount of polish! Such a fun gameplay with adorable graphics! Audio is great as well! Keep up the great work!

drums 2018-08-21 21:20

This was a great game all around. Beautiful graphics and sound, very polished. I loved the learning curve and figuring out what does what. The stages of anger, the animation, all so good! Nice job.

geck0 2018-08-21 22:47

One of the best games I played in this LD42. Maybe the theme implementation is the worst part, and it is great too.

Agreed with the button to activate the train and another one to swap aliens, as @nihilaleph said.

Very good job, **felicidades** ;)

brandon-js-lea 2018-08-21 23:07

I'm going to get my complaints out of the way first.

Firstly, and what got in the way most for me, was the lack of explanation. I still have no idea after playing for 20 minutes what order things happen in, IE how mind control spreads or which side will be chosen as a snack for the eating one. For mind control, I assumed it was the order you place them down which makes most sense IMO but instead I'm now thinking it's left to right which really screwed me over and seems a lot more arbitrary than the order they're placed. To make matters more confusing, the hungry one triggers when the ride starts whilst the mind controlly starts immediately which makes finding any kind of consistent rule even harder.

Secondly is the lack of any goal. It would have been nice if there were levels or score milestones that unlock stuff. As is I never felt as though I was progressing. When I reached a point that I knew I was about to game over I lost all motivation because A. I wouldn't reach my destination/reach a mile stone if I just kept going B. There was no method of recovering passenger madness. If milestones are added I think a progress bar would be good just to help visualize that milestone and give the player more intensive to push on.

Thirdly is the lack of an undo button. I personally feel an undo button would help a lot, especially when some of the earlier mentioned mechanics can be a bit confusing. I know this holds the threat of making it too easy but I don't think it would, you'd still need to be smart about how you sort the aliens and it's not like you would be able to undo the previous stations. I think it would help remove the annoying side of the difficulty (the confusion) and help focus the strategic parts. A good example of this in practice would be Into the Breach.

Final complaint is the "music". I found the constant hum incredibly annoying, perhaps an option to turn it off or lower the volume or just some simplistic music would help. I get how the lack of music can help enhance the atmosphere but I think music can help a lot more of done right whilst also adding a lot of feel.

Now that I've complained about the game for 4 paragraphs straight, let more clarify that I actually really really like this game. The annoyances stand out because I can see just how close this game is to being absolutely amazing. Sound effects (bar the rumble) are great and alien, visuals manage to be alein and cute at the same time, and gameplay-wise this probably has the most potential out of any other game I've played at Ludum Dare. Were the issues fixed I would call this a certain winner and would love to see it built up into a full game.

The game quite strongly reminds me of plants VS zombies in an odd sense, I think if it were to be level based, introducing a new alien each level, it could work really well. One idea being a childish alien that runs between available spaces. Alternatively, this could work quite well as a rouge-like, it'd be harder to keep it fresh but it would certainly incentivize the player to keep going, introducing aliens randomly would also feel less predictable than the PVZ model.

I think some attempts at dialogue or narration would be nice, the aliens have a lot of seasonality but I think this could be taken a step further. It would be cool to see these beings that feel like living entities come and go, would also be a nice way to get a glimpse into the worlds they come from which would strongly help immersion.

My overly exited hopes aside, as is this is a very cool game. Whilst it's problems and lack of any motivation to continue/anything to work towards is a big issue, were these to be fixed I think this could very easily be a fantastic game. Are there any plans to work on it any more and if so, do you have somewhere I can follow development?

isubka 2018-08-22 08:40

@balance686 @stefan-jovanovic @drums Thanks! Glad you liked it!

@nihilaleph @geck0 Thanks! Sure, a button when you are done would be great. Until the last hours, we had a timmer to seat everyone. But we decided to remove it. We didnt have the time to even think about the "Done Button" hahah But it is something we could implement in a postjam versión!

@brandon-js-lea Thanks for taking the time to write such a long feedback, we really appreciate it! We are aware our game is far away from being perfect. As you pointed, there are many things we could improve. Nevertheless, we are quite happy with it, considering the time limitations of a Jam! We would like to improve it, but just a bit (done button, passangers swap, trying to give sometida more feedback of how the special aliens work...). Unfortunatelly, we don't plan to make this bigger. We are already working in long projects and it is imposible for us to work in another one right now :( Thanks again for the feedback!

jerripo 2018-08-25 21:04

Wow straight 5s. What an addicting strategy game! It's so replayable! The graphics are amazing, and it's such an innovative use of the theme - with you having to choose whose lives matter more (who gets to be happy vs who gets eaten).

Are there any consequence to letting aliens get eaten? I feel like there's no downside to killing off passengers that have high stop numbers.

And I don't know if this is an oversight/bug or if it's intentional, but if I move someone near a 1 mindcontroller, then move the mindcontroller away, the first alien keeps the 1 (see image, where I made everyone a 1, except the 4, who was the last placed guy).space.PNG

Although, they didn't all disappear at the stop. The ones that did disappear were the ones I faked out using the trick above. space2.PNG

It's a great thing that you removed the seating timer or else I think it would be way too stressful when there's already quite a bit of thinking needed.

I just read the comment above about how the eaters don't eat the big alien? That's interesting, and I didn't pick up on it. I guess it's true that there are a few things you discover only while playing, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I had a lot of fun, great game.

laura-angel 2018-08-26 21:21

@jerripo Thank you so much for your feedback, we're really happy you liked our game! :)

There are no consequences for getting aliens eaten, we thought about making it a harder decision (the annoyance bar slightly increasing if someone gets eaten) but in the end we thought the game was hard enough haha. Oh, and the 1 stop aliens not leaving the train is certainly a bug, it happened once to me as well, we'll look into it.

Again, thank you for spending time playing the game and rating us, much appreciated!
