I LOVE this game! I surprised myself at how much thought I put into hiring/firing authors and selecting issues to meet the demands of the readers. I also appreciated being able to pause when I needed to think over my strategy. Really awesome job!
This game lacked a tutorial, but I quickly figured out that you needed to improve the companies' opinion of you. The game has the same feeling as the common clicker games out there, but instead of clicking, you simply wait. Could be a nice time killer if it wasn't that short, I personally completed it in under 3 minutes. Maybe I got lucky and hired good Authors.
Really cute game - gave it a really high score in innovation, and I thought it was a nice and original take on the theme. Still needs a lot of tuning to be more fun and challenging though. Also, the icons are a bit hard to differentiate. Would be nice if maybe they had different colors.
This Game has a very **orignal take** on the theme and is very **innovative**. But i tought the game was **lacking** some **sound effects**. But overall a very nice and innovative entry.
Hectic but fun! (Thank goodness for the pause button.) It's an interesting exercise in market supply and demand. I like the clean layout and simple color palette. I know it's in the works, but more textual window dressing would go a long way, such as fake, on-theme headlines ("[Conservative/liberal] Senator [random-name] embroiled in [pro/anti-religion] scandal") and better fake author names. Well done, and as a browser game it's nicely lightweight.
Interesting. Really original.
I really think there should be a manual because i really didn't knew what i was doing. I felt i was just clicking buttons as fast as i could :D
Fun! I managed to bring myself back from the brink of financial collapse and win. Catering to readers' opinions was more strategic than I anticipated, and the game is still workable if you get a reader base with a lot of conflicting interests. One thing I would recommend is a setting for users to change the speed that time passes; in the early game you have to pause every few seconds to take in the new information and that could be mitigated with a slower game speed.
@darkguardsman oops, i managed to submit without the link. This has been fixed.
@katie-dover Awesome! That's exactly the sort of feeling I was shooting for. Great!
@bloc97 @roidz This could definitely use a tutorial or at least a little slideshow talking you through the interface and how the pieces interact. Thank you.
@matank Thank you for the feedback. I agree that the icons are hard to distinguish and not terribly memorable. Maybe something more abstract (circles, square, triangles) would make it easier to remember what sorts of stories you're hoping to publish.
@inworks Yes, quite lacking in sound effects and this is such a huge space for being clever! The post jam version will address this.
@tony-li Fantastic idea. Working on that now for the post jam version. Thank you!
@evan-charfauros I love this story. I'm glad the balance and mechanics of the game work well enough to have created this experience for you. One of my post-jam goals will be to tune the randomness and balance so that more people can have an experience like yours.
Thanks all for the comments!
This kinda reminds me of Westport Independent. The world needs more newspaper games!
Thanks @theslate !
A really neat little management sim! This could be a really neat Tycoon game if developed further!
Great job with this one, I had fun playing through until I got $100k
Really fun game! I didn't like the starting person because she didn't like kids so I fired her right away. Bad idea haha.
It's a really cool concept though that definitely takes quite a bit of planning. I'm kind of curious how it would play out though if you slowed the pace down and didn't allow pausing. It might make things more hectic (maybe a different game mode for this?).
The first time I finished, I was a bit disappointed I couldn't keep going after 100k. After my second play though (when I knew what I was doing), I see why you ended it there. At that point, I had all the authors I needed to always produce "good" stories. There wouldn't have been much else to do after that.
The names were a bit strange, but I was much more focused on their attributes anyway. I'm guessing all the traits are randomized, but if you continue developing this game, maybe add in a few limitations, so they can't be both pro-conservative AND pro-liberal or things like that. Might make it feel a bit more realistic.
Great game overall, and I especially loved the UI. Very clean.
This is first idle game that I've seen on this jam and I am satisfied with your work but it might be endless and might be better. But it is onlly your work so it is good work. GL!
I dont see any link, please fix :)

This is a cool game and a nice interpretation of the theme! I found it quite overwhelming at first, and I had to pause almost every second to work out what to do next, which I guess was your intention, but I think allowing the player to pick different speed will help quite a lot. That way you can be making descions while the game progresses without having to be constantly worrying about pressing space.
Also one little niggle, space scrolls the window as well as pausing which was a bit annoying so myabe change the pause button to a different key?
Great job!
Very fun game! I love the fast-pace of it. The decisions aren't as impactful which co-operates with the speed of the game wonderfully. The only bad thing about it is that it isn't longer. Nice work!
so cool~i like the idea,it was smart.and gameplay was great too~
Interesting and innovative idea. It could use a bit more balancing (I won easily without really thinking about it), and also better visually feedback of how the readers react on articles.
At first it's difficult to understand but at the end it's really fun to organize everything and try to keep subscribers by diversify all the articles ! It's a bit too bad that there are no music or sound design.. But I really like to play it and diversify my employees ! ^^
I wish there were some sounds and I think "Stats" should be a bit more visible? Maybe bigger letters or maybe made as a bar on top of a screen? I don't know but as it is right now it was a bit hard to follow the numbers and all hiring and publishing stuff. Concept is nice, it was fun to play. Good work :)
The game was nice, it is hard to design management games in small time frames, still this had meaningful decisions in it. I liked idea of memory and pleasing subsribers. Good job!
A nice game idea, I like how you have to balance which people you hire and which articles you use. It might be nice if there was some downside to not using certain articles, maybe the author starts to dislike you.
Nice game, Love how everything is balanced! Good luck, Don't forget to take a look at ours if you don't mind and see what it's like when we just focused on graphics in this game jam! Game Link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/spacelab-42a
