Nice one guys! Really like this one. It's definitely something I've not seen in a music game before.
Fantastic art style and some nice puzzling. The difficulty curve is maybe a bit too steep at the beginning but that might just me me :P
I do love the idea of the control scheme, but it's properly hard to get used to it. Could maybe have done with some easier training levels to practice with and help guide you with how to use the mechanics?
I did enjoy it though :) Really nice for a comp game. And I really liked the art style.
Really good idea. I absolutely love this. Fantastic job!
Having to role an exact number to win the game got a bit annoying as it meant I was stuck at the very end for quite a few throws, and on the left side of the board the players cover up the spaces making it hard to see where you're going to land. Other than that though this was a really polished and fun experience.
Nice little game for mobile. Could actually see myself picking this up to play again every now and then :)
Nice unique mechanic. I was rubbish at it but enjoyed it nonetheless :)
Heh wow I really like that mechanic. Also made really nice use of the theme. I did think it was bugged at first when the arrows kept rotating on their own, so could probably do with explaining that mechaninc a bit better, but once I understood what was going on I loved it :D
Cool! The controls are quite hard (kinda feels like your guy is sliding around on ice :P) but I like the way the bullets ricochet off the walls :) Nice graphics.
Nice. I liked the idea. I have to say I couldn't quite tell what difference the music/speakers were making but your controls were really nice. The green guys were super annoying but perfectly so :)
Really like it. Great music, great use of physics.
Really cool idea. I love the tape over the holes ^_^ I think with a little bit more work on the level design/puzzles this would be awesome but it's already a really nice game. Great work.
Nice start. You've got an impressive amount done in just the 48h. I agree with some above points that the game is currently a bit overwhelming and this also makes it feela bit slow. So maybe a furture feature could be maps that start of small then increase in size?
Yeah sorry the fact that the enemies move around seemingly randomly meant that there wasn't much of a challenge there.
Well done for getting it finished and released though! I think the main improvement needed to take this to the next level would be adding some predictable movement to the enemies
Like the idea. would like to see it again once you manage to get your remaining features in :)
Yeah sorry I'm getting the same missing dll error.
Some nice effects and a nice idea. Could maybe have done with ramping up the enemy variety a bit quicker so I have more to fight than just the round guys for the first couple of minutes!
Simple, nice idea done really well. I love the fact that you have to roll up the balls first :)
Nice idea. This definately the beginning of something good with just a bit more work :)
Haha I love the way you met the theme. Neat idea :)
Wow that's a really neat concept :) Would love to see a more complete version of it!
Heh this was more fun than I thought it would be. As others have said, the colours hurt your eyes a bit so maybe could have done with something a bit softer, but it's a nice idea :)
Yep some great "pixel art" :P I like the idea. I think it would be nice if you could see how much jetpack fuel you have left via a bar on screen or something. That way you know when you're going to be landing again. Also it's pretty hard to see the enemies, but I guess that's kinda hard to avoid when they're all 1 pixel tall!
Thanks everyone! @HolyBlackCat: Assuming you got back to the screen that says "Gridception" then yes that's the end. Or is it? (Yes it is, it just loops round from there :P)
Thanks everyone. It's really good to hear that you all enjoyed it so much!
Yep graphics and lack of audio are probably the big negatives here. I've never really dealt with the art side of games before so that's definitely something I'd like to work on in future jams. Audio was more just a lack of time and got dropped off my priority list.
And yes an undo button would be the one feature I would add to this other than just more puzzles. Even as the developer I found it frustrating when I occasionally made a silly mistake and pushed a block one space too far, resulting in me having to redo the whole puzzle. But yep just didn't have enough time to develop that.
That'll be the first thing I add when I continue work on it. And I _will_ continue work on it because you guys have proven to me that this is something worth building on :)
Not a bad idea. Pretty hard though! Could do with a jump key so you can get back up and grab the ammo drops.
Really nice. Love having to take my chances as to which direction the blocks are going to move and plan ahead to stay in the best position at all times.
Haha I love it. Great style and a great concept. I'm a big fan of these kindof local multiplayer one-screen brawlers.
Really nice idea. Would love to see this explored further. I think you just need to tighten up the platforming controls a bit. Do that and you're onto a winner :)
Nice use of the physics. Good work.
Liking the way the drop down as you take each part out, and how you can try to aim for the hat to go for them in one but end up missing and knocking back a lower part setting you back again.
Nice idea. Pretty hard though!
I like the combination of quick action dogfighting and strategy elements. The controls of your little ship were really nice and really felt like you're in a space style dog-fight. Couple of points:
-Probably need a bit of a penalty on your ship being destroyed. Currently you just respwned instantly so in the end I stopped caring about being shot down.
-Need to stop the player form being able to fly off the screen because as soon as you do your ship gets completely lost!
Nice game though :)
Nice. I like the twist you've added on the usual typing game. I am a sucker for a good typing game :)
71300 :)
you've really got the Hotline Miami feel down perfectly. As others have said, the control and the feel of the weapon wasn't perfect, but this si still a stellar job for something done in 48h hours. Congrats!
Also the music was great. I especially love the track for level 3/6 :D Gonna grab that one from the source and stick it in my regular playlists!
Really like you art style. Could have maybe done with the hint that you can only cure them from behind a few screens earlier! But overall it's a nice idea :)
Nice. I love the energy that everything in the game adds towards. The music and the visuals all work with the frenetic pace of the game.
Not sure if it's intentional but when I beat the opponent , their EGO bar just stayed at zero but more of them kept spawning. Would be nice to have a running total of how many I'd beaten, with the timing getter harder and harder :)
Really love your art style. And the SFX are great (love the weird mumbling when the fight starts). Might load this up again tonight and try and keep attacking and beat the guy. I hope you've put something interesting in if you do manage it!
Nice idea. I like the theme and it's a great mechanic. Could do with some slightly gentler pacing as it's pretty hard! Good fun though.
Awesome job guys! It's a great concept and you've also built a very polished game around it. The art and music are top notch and I love the variety of combinations you end up acquiring.
Nice engine and I really dig your art style. You minimal sound effects suited the atmosphere. Not sure if there was any goal but I had fun exploring anyway :)
That was certainly something!
Brilliant! Simple, fun and a great use of the theme. Love it!
Nice idea. You managed to get a lot of stuff in there and it's a complete game so you should be proud for managing all that in the 48h. Like the retro feel of the audio and art style.
@BraindeadGeo yeah I know what you mean. I was going to work on a solution to this so that it would just work out when you'd typed a correct kana but I unfortunately didn't get round to it.
@hunttis Yes optional difficulty levels would have been good. The game does get harder and faster, especially from level 15 onwards, but it takes a long time to get to that point!
Thanks for all the great comments guys! Glad everyone is enjoying it.
@stoarch not sure why you got a crash :( As you said, Unity web player no longer works in Chrome, though it should have worked in Firefox. Have you tried it in IE? Or you could also try the Windows download link.
@gormed Each ghost has a symbol on their body. These are the Japanese Kana and they're what you're trying to learn. They are basically the Japanese alphabet. The letters above the ghost teach you the corresponding english sound that you need to type when you see the symbol on the ghost, and you need to remember these and match them with the symbols in the future. So あ = A, い = I, う = U and so on.
If a ghost does and up hitting you, then the next time you see it it will have the letters above it's head again so that you can try and learn what you need to type.
For more info I recommend you check out http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/complete/hiragana
Yes! Beat it! Certainly an unconventional pest control method!
Great little game. I like the many layers to the meta elements of your story :)
As others have said, you nailed the Game n Watch theme. maybe starts off a bit slow, could maybe have had an A and B game just like the old LCD games for a bit of variation, but as it stands it's a nice complete game. Great work!
Lovely graphics and animation. Some quick hints on how to control the cannon would have helped but it wasn't too hard to figure out :) This has a lot of promise. Great work!
Nice idea. I like the idea of having to switch between lasers depending on situation. Like others have said, it feels a bit aimless, but as a jam game it is all there and functions really well so it was a really great effort :)
What a great idea! Can be a bit tricky getting the dogs onto the bladed without being hit, but when you do it's very satisfying. Nice job!
Loaded fine for me. Shame you couldn't get it finished but what you do have looks like a good start. Hopefully you learnt something anyway and we'll see you again with something else next time :)
Aha what a cool idea! It works really well. I managed to get back to my island using only the stars :)
I really like this. I guess the only thing that could be improved is as pressxtoskip said, maybe up the draw distance a bit so that rocks and things don't pop up right in front of you. Or maybe use some fog or something to hide it :)
Also once you've worked out where you are it's basicallly just a case of heading in a straight line, so maybe some random events like a storm or something that spin you around/move you a bit, and mean you have to reorient yourself.
Great stuff. The theme is great and you've nailed the atmosphere. The controls are tight, and you have a really nice difficulty curve. Not much I can fault about this!
.-/.-../.--.!
Simple concept, executed very well. The artwork is lovely :)
Nice! Lovely and simple, very clear what's going on, and has a nice difficulty curve. Lovely sound effects too :)
I can already imagine ways you could take this further (wires you can't cross, special colored wires that can only go in certain holes, etc..) but it's already a nice complete experience. Great job.
Haha great original idea. I love the theme and the art style.
As others have said it can get a bit repetitive so maybe some variation as to what's in the windows. Also you should maybe get punished a bit for spamming your shooter, either by losing points for hitting the wrong thing, or maybe by having a limited supply of ammo.
Nice idea :) What you have here works really well.
As others have said it is short but it's complete and it's easy to see how you can add more in the future.
I think randomizing the order of the list, the items in in it and maybe even their properties will help with replay-ability as you won't be able to memorize where things are/
Also I think maybe having a time limit might help add to the challenge but then again it was quite nice being able to do it at a relaxing pace and bring able to read and enjoy all the items.
Nice work :) Impressive to get so many puzzles with so many mechanics done in such a short time.
The only things I would add are perhaps a little bit more narrative fluff to better tie it to the theme (though to be honest I can take of leave that :P) and maybe some hints as to what each of the tiles do (maybe even just by giving each puzzle a title that is a hint in itself?)
Anyway great job :)
Nice idea! I love the humor :)
The gameplay seems a bit random and there doesn't seem to be any room for strategy. Maybe if you knew the percentage change of each action working, that would help. Maybe also more ways to affect how much income you generate or visitors you attract, such as being able to sell of artifacts you don't want, or changing the layout of the museum.
As an initial idea it's great though :)
Nice idea and good use of the theme :) Everything works nicely and it make a complete game so overall not much to complain about. Difficulty could ramp up a bit quicker maybe but that's just my personal preference.
Well done on your first jam. Simple, and a complete game. Can't really ask for much else. Hope you take part in more in the future.
Poor little guy :-(
The art is lovely and the music particularly is great, gives the game a nice melancholy atmosphere. I have to say I got a bit stuck once I'd found the chisel and become round, not really sure where to go next. But I might come back and have another go when I have some more time :)
Lovely concept :) It's a really original idea. Like you say I think it probably needs some more explicit tutorials near the beginning, maybe the first level walks you through step by step how do program your first command to make the turtle walk forward. Something like "Press 1 and see what happens" and if the turtle walks forward pop something up saying "Give a treat now!"
But I love it and you got an impressive amount done in the time limit.
Plus I love turtles so this was always going to be a winner for me :P
Lovely game! The art style works well and you implemented the gravity shifting mechanics nicely. Not a whole lot more for me to add really!
Nice little game. after the first level I was expecting it to be a simple get to the exit maze type thing, but you changed up the gameplay a lot between levels! Like others, I liked the use of riddles. A couple of feedback points:
- The variety of levels and game mechanics is nice but it introduces inconsistency in objectives and if you were to make more levels, this could result in the player getting confused about what they're supposed to do. To remedy this you should try to make sure the player is always trying to achieve the same thing. For example it took me a while to even notice the buttons on Level 5. You could use the button and door mechanic from the very beginning, and simply have it so that the player only needs to hit one button to begin with. Then for riddle levels you could still have closed doors, but the buttons are hidden behind the riddle objects.
- You should try to make hazardous and non-hazardous objects more distinct. In the first few levels you can touch everything without penalty and then suddenly all those same objects are hazardous to touch in levels 4 and 5. Maybe just dangerous looking things (Scissors, sharpener etc) could be hazardous to touch and safe things (pencils, rulers, paper) coould be used for barriers.
Anyway nice work and well done!
Haha yep @thorneto I realised too that after I'd finished modelling it ^_^ Though having to put 4 in would probably just be even more tedious and frustrating than it already is :P
Nice concept. It was good fun but challenging in places! I think the timers on the first couple of levels could be increased a bit to give a slightly nicer difficulty curve. Great job though :)
Nice work! Some cool level design there to fit with the neat mechanic. I like that you hid a few easter eggs around too :)
Also the music was great!
Nice work. You did a good job with the difficulty curve, managing to make the mazes random but slowly more difficult is not a straightforward task. It starts to get a bit repetitive for a while but it's certainly a good start and a good base to build from. I like the idea of putting it on mobile and adding accelerometer controls :)
I closed it before I noted my time but I think I got to aroun maze 20 in ~250 seconds.
Very lovely little game. Nice mechanic and interpretation of the theme and a wonderful atmospheric style. My only criticism is that you maybe didn't make enough out of the sheltering under things mechanic. Like maybe there's some part where you have to wait for something to happen and you have to take shelter under something but your shelter keep moving.
But what's there is very good :)
Nice idea. I personally found it quite hard, though it could just be me being rubbish at this sort of game. I enjoyed the simplicity of just having the two resources to worry about.
Nice work! I love the art style and the 2.5D perspective. I enjoying the thematic way the camera zooms in and restricts your view when Spooky's eyes are covered, but I'm not sure I'm a fan of it form a mechanical perspective as it just ends up being a bit frustrating. Nevertheless it's a nice game :)
That's a really cool concept! I imagine you could do quite a lot with this given some more time. The first thing I would probably add if you were to make it bigger or add more levels are some generous checkpoints so that once you've made some progress you don't have to keep going right back to the start every single time!
But I had fun :) Great work.
@whismirk Yeah I realise all compo stuff needs to be made by me in the weekend. But that's why I listed it as not being mine and excused myself from the audio voting. Added it in at the last minute as I figured it would be nicer than just an annoying exhaust noise for 3 mins XD
But you're right, I've gone and had a better look at the rules and it was probably a bit cheeky so I'm just putting up a build now without the music :)
Glad you enjoyed it anyway!
@jackou @fryderider Yep would really have loved to have made the car controls just a bit more tight and arcady (though not too much as I feel the akwardness is half the fun!), but alas it's just another thing on the big list of stuff that didn't get done before the end as usual. Glad you both enjoyed!
@nam-nguyen Thanks for all the thoughtful feedback. Yep as *everyone* has said, the car controls definitely needed improvement and it was on the big list of things to get done hehe.
Time going down while arranging items was a design decision as it's supposed to add to the frantic nature, and mean you're less likely to perfectly arrange things. It's a nice idea to give extra time for perfect arrangement though. Maybe I could give bonus time/points for creating certain shapes in your truck...
Anyway thanks for playing!
@bemmu Aww thanks! Glad you enjoyed!
@oadt Cheers! Glad you saw the fun in the awful controls XD
@rs11s21n Haha thanks for coming to check mine out. Looks like we do share some issues >_<
@alexey-akulovich Thanks <3
This is a really cool idea! The graphics are lovely and really fit the game.
As said above, the window is really big! So I couldn't see the right/bottom of the screen.
I found it quite difficult to be concentrating on both moving around, avoid enemies and what card I had drawn as there's a lot going on! I think the controls didn't help. Maybe changing the card slots to be 1/2/3/4 rather than Z/X/C/V would help as it would make it more akin to traditional hotbar controls.
Also I wasn't sure what all the items in the tiles were for. Could I pick them up or do anything with them?
Anyway really nice game. Great work!
Lovely idea. The art style, animation, and sound are all great and really worth with your theme. It seemed a little random when it would decide to give me a negative mark, but I get the idea.
Also you might want to expand the web view on your itch page as some bits are cut off. (Probably need to turn on the setting for auto sizing it?)
Great work! Glad you enjoyed your first Jam. Hope to see you again for more!
This is a cool game and a nice interpretation of the theme! I found it quite overwhelming at first, and I had to pause almost every second to work out what to do next, which I guess was your intention, but I think allowing the player to pick different speed will help quite a lot. That way you can be making descions while the game progresses without having to be constantly worrying about pressing space.
Also one little niggle, space scrolls the window as well as pausing which was a bit annoying so myabe change the pause button to a different key?
Great job!
What a charming little game! Your slime is so cute! I like the mix of Osmos/Agar.io and bullet hell style gameplay. Great little tutorial, great music, great gameplay. Not really anything else for me to add!
Awesome job!
Great work! Had fun playing through the levels you have there. Would obviously love to see more but what you've got certainly shows off the mechanic well.
Nice work!
Hey there great job! There's some nice ideas here. As others have said the balance of fuel consumption could maybe do with a little work, but it is pretty good considering the time limits; It's certainly playable as it and makes it a challenge at least!
Aiming your ship when you fling off planets can be kinda hard as you're mostly going off the tiny minimap. If you do any more work, maybe add the ability to zoom in and out so you can judge distances that aren't too far just in the main screen.
Awesome work folks!
This is a really great game! It looks ace, feels like a proper old school arcade game. I like the increasing challenge by introducing more ghosts and more complicated graveyard layouts
I totally forgot about needing water and for ages thought the game was bugged because I couldn't fix anything anymore. I think maybe just making the water counter flash or something when you try to fix anything when you have no water would maybe help that.
But yep great work!
Cool concept and great work for only a few hours. Unfortunately, even in full screen I don't think I could see the whole puzzle. It was pretty difficult. I like the atmosphere you managed to create with only a few assets.
Hey nice work. As others have said there's a slight issue with the camera angle unless you're in fullscreen (and even then it's pretty tough to reach that third bin!) But the core mechanics work. Would be cool to have something change the gameplay up every now and then. Perhaps one of your bins gets clogged up, or random other things drop into the bin that you have to deal with in some way.
Man people really did not want to buy my Big Cs! I had so many of them. Cool little trading game!
Very nice. Took me a little while to work out that I had to actually do something on the building screen (in fact I hadn't actually realised it was even a building screen at first!). So maybe just a line of text on there to tell you to click on the blue dot to add components is all you need.
But once I got that it was nice to play around with and build different kinds of rockets. Awesome work!
Lovely idea, and a lovely game. You art and animations are great, and I'm a big fan of board game style RPGs!
While lovely, the dice animation could do with speeding up just a teeny bit, as battles can go on for quite some time, especially in the beginning when your dice are fairly evenly matched against the enemies. Felt like I was battling one vampire forever! I'd love just a bit more choice throughout. Quite often felt like I was just hitting spacebar to continue playing.
But yeah I really enjoyed it. Great work!
Hey nice idea. I love the atmosphere you created with the art and music. Gameplay could do with tightening up a bit but it's a good start - As others have said, just some quick introductory text/tutorial will go a long way! - I found a lot of the pieces were quite fiddly to pick up, so maybe try increasing the hit box on them. - The game went pretty slowly. I was just waiting around for pieces to drop most of the time which meant there wasn't much challenge. I feel like you could increase the speed that new pieces come in and drop by LOADS and it would play fine.
But good job with it. Hope you had fun making it!
@rs11s21n Oh yeah no worries! They were more suggestions for what you could do if you carried it on afterwards :) What you got done in the time was great!
Hey there nice little game! It had a nice enough difficulty curve. Would love to see some even harder levels! One thing that would be great is if there was some way to know what order the green tiles would turn to red. Perhaps they each have a number on them that counts down every time the clock runs out? Currently some levels are a bit trial and error as you don't know which tiles are going to fall next. That would fix that and allow you to plan ahead. Anyway great work :-)
Hey they nice first LD! It's a fun game! Great work! As others have said, restarting right at the beginning can be fairly frustrating so just taking the player back to the start of the current level would be a big improvement.
But this is a great first effort. Now you've gotten a game done for LD you'll be able to make something even greater next time (you're definitely joining us next time right? :p) If you can leave yourself a bit of time to create and add some SFX and music you'll have a complete package. Also if you get a chance, as you're using Unity, make a WebGL build! It should work no problem and you'll get loads more people trying your game. Definitely try to do that next time anyway!
Great game! You intro has some great camera work, and the menu transitions are nice. Agree with a some of the other points but don't have too much else to add. Enjoyed it!
