Wow, I can see the potential... Put 20 ships of different types all fighting each other on the screen at a time like an epic Star Wars battle... although I'll admit at first I thought it was a submarine. Definitely has a lot of potential -- I've played a turn based space combat game in 3d but I think 2d would be more fun. Surprisingly fun just to fly around for a minute, but I crave to blow something up.
Shiny! Very pretty! But for the love of all things good if you are going to make a game this hard at least give us a restart button that's easy to click, like 'R' or space. Also, my guy didn't want to run backwards. Perhaps making the jumps easier at first and then ramping up the difficulty would be nice, and a score (distance traveled) is always nice as well. Adding a story would be nice, re: Bastion.
Ahh, different colors (basic lighting) for all four walls would have made this a lot easier to navigate. From the screenshot I had no idea that this was a maze game. But hey, you got something out. Not sure if I could win or not. On the plus side, it didn't make me motion sick like notch's.
Oddly fun! The hint that the boulder would kill me made me laugh. Also it looked a bit like a giant cookie, but the game crashed when I tried to eat it. I'd have liked to have seen a score (distance traveled) as well as the difficulty getting progressively harder (perhaps the terrain gets more uneven as you go on? Starting out mostly flat?) Graphics weren't bad. If you made the main character a bit cuter or gave him some personality that would add a lot to the theme of the game. i.e. a fedora. Fun game! My son also enjoyed it.
I wish I could have played through the whole thing but the old style wolfenstein graphics make me motion sick after a while :( I liked the progression through each weapon, but I didn't feel in control during the combat and it's annoying to have to restart if you die.
Interesting concept. Took me a while to get a hang of it. I would really have liked to see the difficulty ramp up (I kept dying in 2 seconds when I was getting used to the controls.) It doesn't seem to get more difficult as it goes on. I think it could be improved with Guitar Hero like difficulty -- start with one color, then add another color every 10 seconds. Having 5 colors after a while would be intense, while still being easy enough right away to get the hang of it.
I like the clever use of stealth. Makes me want to watch Office Space again. I found myself 'dying' just to find out what people would say. Although I did get stuck when the crate guy backed me into the corner.
Repetitive. I wasn't quite sure what was going on or why. My son liked it however. More choices would have made it more fun -- I felt like I wasn't much in control.
I loved the look of the main character! However, the background made my eyes bleed. I get the reference to the virtual boy, but ouch. The platforming was good, but my poor eyes couldn't handle it. It was really really tough though, perhaps the first door should have been easy, the second medium, the third hard, and the fourth insane? For me all of the three doors I could get in were insane difficulty. Music wasn't bad, sound effects weren't bad. Controls could have been tightened up a bit. A good start, especially for 2 days work.
I would've liked to have seen the ability to move up and down, high scores (even if just local) so I can compete, or even just showing the score when you die, a simple death animation (it took me a while to figure out what was killing me). On the plus side, it was really easy to figure out what the keys were. The UI was nice.
If you are going to make a game that's so beautiful and has such potential, please be kind enough (especially to us reviewers) and have an easy difficulty! i.e. a lot more checkpoints or being able to try over from the same room. Frustration (due to my non-Godlike-reflexes) caused me to abandon the game when I'd rather keep playing :( Other than that, very solid! Controls were good, graphics were awesome, the Metroid style gathering of items and free-form exploration of the castle were awesome! Similar to notch's game but a lot better as it was in 2d :)
Yeah, next time start with boxes and work on the driving algorithm first. That said, I've tried driving algo's before and they took me a lot longer than 48 hours to get right, and that was for a tank, which is probably a lot easier. Good potential! I really wish you could run over the police (I'm a bad person) and damage the cars. Even just running over the police would have made it a lot more fun. Best of luck.
Thanks -- I was really hoping to add more of a "goal" but I had a busy weekend. Next Ludum Dare... :)
Cute game, but none of the dinos would have sex with me :(
good game, frustratingly hard to control at first but that gives room to evolve ... the pace is a little too slow. I would have liked it better if you leveled up faster.
Good start to a game!
I want to play Dwarf Fortress now.
What was going on? Loved the style! Just needs some more iteration...
I didn't get very far due to a lack of patience, but my son and I really liked it.
Cute idea, not really all that much fun though. Would have been great to have seen it as a javascript app or similar.
... all the money I made was from my allowance...
My son and I had a lot of fun playing this for a few minutes.
Wish it was a bit more rock paper scissors -- not sure what other actions you could do, but something to force people out of cover.
I really liked the first part where everything was made of text. You could make an awesome game entirely like that.
Good but don't use graphics from other peoples games in a LD... or even from other projects.
Cute game, really short. I guess I thought I'd be evolving the kids so that they would help me escape. Some color would have helped tell objects apart.
Appears malicious :( According to Chrome / Win 8
Disregard what I said! Wrong game :/ Sorry!
Cool! Wish it was a bit more like Rampage where you just destroyed a building x% and it fell down from structural damage.
I really liked it!
Not a bad start, please tighten up the controls! They are very sloppy! Can't wait to see your next entry.
Unrunnable :( Windows 8
Turns out I needed this as well: (XNA Framework 4 Redist)
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914
Cooool! How do I get more little green people in my life :) Really pretty, I especially like how the line between the people gets thicker the more you click on. Not much to do besides click, however.
I like how when made my disease too deadly it died off :D Wish there was more to do...
Download link is broken again :( It keeps telling me Google Drive is not available.
Awesome idea! It could be soo much fun if you improve on it. 1) UI out of the way of the map 2) indication of how many minions are in a space 3) indication of the level of the hero 4) better indication of special areas. You could make normal areas darker and special areas lighter so they pop out
Fun, lots of collision bugs and man are those cops homicidal! It's a complete game, yeay! And not ridiculously hard. I liked it! Lots of potential.
Pretty! Not really a lot to do though.
Pretty, quick to play, short, LOVE IT!
Doesn't load on my computer :( (Windows 8)
Oh n/m I got it to work in internet explorer, doesn't work in Chrome / Windows 8
Oh n/m I got it to work in internet explorer, doesn't work in Chrome / Windows 8
Pretty! Controls could be improved... I wanted my fox to jump 2 pixels higher...
I had the same idea but you actually executed it :D
Appears malicious according to Chrome / Win 8 :( please try to fix this.
Worked for me, but I kept getting stuck on walls :(
Sometimes the graphics tweak out and I can't connect outputs to inputs :( Took me a while to figure out what the goal was, but then it was fun :)
I was doing really well until I turned red into a glider!
I love that you included the editor. The game itself was WAAAY to hard for me.
Every starter thing costs too much :( It was nifty but maybe you should have started with the right starting gear? I bought the wrong thing twice and had to restart. Also it took forever to get enough money to buy anything. But I like the concept and the random weapons :)
My favorite was riding the yellow platform down and then jumping off to my death.
I liked it but man is it annoying to have to start over from the beginning every time. Cute graphics :)
Who needs Don't Starve ;) -- I love games like this
Perfect use of color
I couldn't get to one of my buckets because it was out of the movable range :(
Oh wait, that was just me trying to pick up one of the buckets in the "bucket-o-meter", lol
Great entry! I loved it!
Unfortunately it becomes a bit of "spreadsheet" management after a while. What if you started with only three elements for the first level, and added an element on level 2 and three... Also, if there was a way to graphically show the weaknesses/strengths of the monsters (a symbol for each color like Magic the Gathering and a number) that would speed up the game and remove a lot of tedium for me.
Is there any way to reset it? I'd like to play again to show someone else :)
Pretty!
I love a happy Angus! I loved this game!
Thanks for all of your kind comments and good feedback! Yes, I'm definitely a TvTropes addict.
As for the AI, well, that's not my strong suit. As for the orbiting, think of it as the martial arts guys circling each other looking for an opening, and lots of dodging and re-positioning.
@Sebastian -- we would have all liked more refinement ;) As for the differentiation, I kind of wanted the fights to feel chaotic and a little out of control
For the sounds, I recorded them with my 6 year old son helping, and yeah we had a lot of fun :)
I'm always impressed by multiplayer games in LD -- I could see how this would be fun with lots of friends/people, but that's always a challenge.
Didn't work in Chrome or IE under windows 8 -- all I got was two arrows, a timer, and a message saying I died. perhaps the graphics weren't loading? can you put it up on amazon s3 or something?
I like your humor, sir.
Reminds me a lot of spy hunter -- great start!
Yeay, I won against myself!
Cool idea, but there's a lot of just waiting :/
Fun game! Crashes if you buy up all of the available worker unpacking slots with flowers, lol.
I don't understand what I'm supposed to be doing :(
Good once I finally got it running!
It would be great if there was a speed up time button...
I wish there was a button to kill your guy before 10 seconds :)
Thanks for the different difficulty levels. I loved how happy the main character was... nice job making clear and usable graphics that still looked great. Nice dungeon generation too!
I only wish I had more things to pee on.
Fun game but the deaths seem kinda random and I didn't want to restart the whole thing. Better to save a checkpoint everytime you get back to the ship?
Fun but then it crashed when trying to load the ending image :( Good use of theme.
This seems like it would be really fun if I could get it to work... could you upload a YouTube video or something explaining the basics to getting started?
Good idea but didn't work well with 10 seconds... Would make a good puzzle game. I found the best strategy for me was to click randomly around the screen and get lucky... 1600 points!
Yeah a little parallex scrolling and better contrast between the fore and backgrounds would be great. Love the concept! Please make the jumps a little easier for us mere mortals :)
Wow I really liked that, neato! And I beat casual on my last life left...
~AUTHOR~ Thank you all for your wonderful feedback!
Because of all of the great feedback, I've released a POST COMPO edition where I fixed some GUI things, adding another few hours to my time (of course don't count that stuff in when you judge...)
A few notes:
1) Yeah, it was supposed to be overwhelming ... sort of a debug wtf is going wrong with your ship under extreme pressure.
2) There's no direct indicator of your health or oxygen, this is so you are forced to look at a console to get feedback. I wanted tension between looking at consoles and not being able to see what's going on in the rest of your ship. Tunnel vision! All consoles show your health and the ship's oxygen.
Please provide something I can run without installing python...
really beautiful game. it would be better with autosaves when you get new items, and more save spots. as is i got frustrated when dying after getting something so i didn't finish :(
That is an amazing pixel pope. The game was interesting, I wish I was as high when I was making my game ;)
really good start! reminds me of simant... ahh memories
I like the name of the game.
Interesting game, very innovative. I found it hard to see where I was and it was tedious to make it back to the surface though :(
looks great and really interesting, but the second level was really hard to control :(
phew! beat it with 4 health
for some reason the web version won't start for me, i tried clicking, hitting enter, mashing keys... im on windows in chrome
I only found one! Cute game.
i died!
my son really likes it
I really felt like I left more comments than that! Can you make one for the next LD? It's great incentive to rate more games :D
Cool idea but the rails being one-way (?) is really confusing! Most of the time my trains weren't moving. I spent most of the time fighting the interface when the game would be REALLY FUN if I could have the trains moving more predictably :)
Interesting idea!
I don't get it... but it did remind me of Monty Python
We enjoyed it, although it's a bit too much based on luck in the beginning!
I keep playing this so I had to go back and rate it even higher :)
Beautiful!
The stories it generates are really funny! The gameplay itself needs to be enhanced though. 5 for humor!
Really cute! Nice use of graphics. Controls could be a bit tighter.
Beautiful! So smooth.
Good idea. I wish I could see the planets zone of influence and the small white text on the black and white background was really hard for me to read.
I like it but there's too much just waiting around. If you did add more people that would help :)
I'd like to implement this as a multiplayer game! Interested in working together? Also see my entry :D
bushmango@gmail.com
Interesting idea. Somewhat glitchy and hard to figure out the controls at first. Could be a pretty cool game if you kept working on it. Thanks for the walkthru :)
How much of the assets were created from scratch and how much was included in RPG maker? It's hard to rate without more info on what you created. Congrats on a good product though.
Thanks everyone for the great feedback. About 40% of my time was spent just getting the web server up and running (it was my first time running node... not a good decision for a jam) and I'm glad it all came together at the last minute and is playable :D
@adharris Every missile randomly strikes a asquare. I wanted a balance between focusing on economy and producing more missiles and just getting one missile out and hoping for that 1% chance :) I also wanted there to always be a chance for the "underdog" to win.
Please expand on this idea :)
Your game is beautiful, brilliant, and includes a level editor!? Can I work with you guys next time?!
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons! I responded:
>> Wow, what a brilliant game, with such a well-defined and fun mood! I managed to get all of the crystals except that one in the middle-bottom of the screen... I think you have to step on little patches of snow or something, but I couldn't figure out at all which path I was supposed to take and ended up getting stuck :< If I didn't have so many other games I need to rate I'd honestly go and play your 1.01 version just to get to the end. Thank you for the game!
@Victory Garden -- don't feel bad, that one is really hard! It's part of the reason the game has extra crystals so you don't have to get them all ^.^ the 1.01 version has some extra hints as to the solution to that one, although I'm sure you would have figured it out if you weren't so good at rating games :D You are most welcome, I make games mostly to bring happiness.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
Great sound effects ^.^ This is really well put-together, especially for the amount of time you put in. It's like a great version of balloon hunter. Maybe an easy version with bigger collision circles? Also the bugs would tease me by flying off the screen! Love it.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
Re: to be fair, you should expect some lava to attack you if you sleep next to a volcano... but I've taken your feedback and made a bit easier and less frustrating 1.01 version with some other bug fixes included.
I liked your game, it gave me a nice little RTS fix. It can be hard to navigate around the map though -- my own guys kept getting in the way or they seemed to get stuck on stuff. Maybe a population cap would help as well as force you to move your guys out to attack?
good idea but it's kind of tedius
Wow, this is an awesome concept! My son and I race. I happily won.
very satisfying. please increase the contrast between the backround and foreground though -- i suggest a darker and more plain background for the arena
Bloody brilliant. Gave me an excuse to show my kiddo what computers were like back in my day.
Interesting gameplay but the controls aren't very tight and I kept getting stuck on things. If you make the controls a bit better and make some easier beginning levels for newbs like me this could be a great game!
Similar theme to my game, Four Seasons. Great minds think alike :) Reminds me a bit of Zelda: A Link to the Past with how dark world works.
Once you figure out how to play it, this game becomes kind of repetitive.
Looks great but the jumping controls are pretty awful. That and the enemies push you all the way to the ground. Check out Super Meat Boy for some ideas on how to make a well-controlled character.
I like the Shadow of the Colossus feel.
Fun to play :)
interesting concept
I like the zoom idea, but zoomed in shows too little and zoomed out is too small :/ Graphics are nice. How big is your team? Credits? Tighten up the controls and this game will be great ^.^
Cool game! My controls got really laggy for some reason after a while. I love the art direction.
Very creepy! 5/5 for mood for sure
So much fun, I love games like this.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons.
Clever concept! Please expand on this. With some polish and more puzzles and some easier levels this will be great. I played it all the way to the finish.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
Really good mood, just wish there was more gameplay. It's like SPACE DESERT BUS (DESERT BEE?)
Looks good but it's too dark, hard on my poor old eyes. I also vote yes to mouse for shooting.
Really great start to a really moody dungeon game
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons.
I really enjoyed your puzzle game. My son and I are competing to see how far we can get. I really like the well-paced puzzle introduction and difficulty curve.
I responded to your comment:
>> Interesting game! I didn't get the idea of the four seasons though :/
With
@Grindstorm the islands switch between spring, summer, fall, and winter. I guess that really only makes sense in temperate zones like the Midwest U.S.A. where we live though.... hmmm.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasouns!
This was more fun than I thought it would be considering the title :D The only thing I can think to improve is to make the phone ring faster.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
I liked your came. Unfortunately I found myself looking more at the colors on the sides than at my fish. (Not sure if this was intended or not). I really liked how the fish followed the cursor. Full marks for Mood!
Looks like fun but my tooltips keep disappearing which makes it hard. Can you try to fix that please? :D
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
I got stuck at the ball police -- I think I killed them too quickly. :(
I like the simple controls and concept.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
Good start, it's pretty but it needs more gameplay. Wish I had your 3d animating skills :)
Thanks for rating my game, Four Seasons!
This is the first rhythm game I've seen in a LD, I liked it, although I did pretty well with just button mashing. I'm impressed you were able to add gamepad support.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
Unfortunately your website is down while I write this comment so I can't play your game :( I'll try again later.
Hello, Brazil! My girlfriend is there right now studying as formigas. I hope to visit again soon!
My son and I played this for a long time and really enjoyed it!
The graphics are nice, I like the idea of the game inside the box. I would like to see more gameplay, though.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
I shoudn't like your game, because yours is about a dog and mine is about a cat, but I really do like it! I love how the screen slowly zooms out. I'd love to see more variation to the map as it zooms out though. Great sounds.
Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!
Level 3 really spiked up the difficulty. Please good game developers, can we have a level 2.5 that has a slower moving space station? :D
@graebor & @DaniDK thanks for your feedback -- I've fixed some bugs and tweaked the map so the water doesn't sneak up on you like it did, that was a bit unfair. I also tightened the controls and improved the collision detection so it feels more fair
@monkid -- did you try the web link? if you tried the download it's probably Mac OS X gatekeeper getting in the way :(
@Nuiguy, don't worry, your kitty doesn't drown! Your kitty just jumps really high back to the spawn location
@Grindstorm the islands switch between spring, summer, fall, and winter. I guess that really only makes sense in temperate zones like the Midwest U.S.A. where we live though.... hmmm.
Very cute art, very hard to control!
I'm not entirely sure what happened but I won?
Cute gameboy style.
I EAT EVERYTHING!
Great art. Wish your guy could move faster.
Super cute main character and song, but waaaay to hard.
Cool! Sorry about your village, a volcano was needed there...
Wait, what am I supposed to be doing?
You know that you are evil, right? :) Love it.
DO A BARREL ROLL FOX! Cute. You can do some sweet tricks.
Why are the lice eating my beautiful plant?!
I like how you added the bonuses to make each level different.
I liked figuring out what the seeds do. Really easy to get trapped though.
This would be awesome on a tablet or phone I think. The manual made it more fun for me :) I'm trying to think of a way to make it easier for mere mortals without the manual, but maybe that would ruin the fun. Smaller starting levels and you have to unlock harder items?
Fun! Easy to get stuck though.
it is too slow when you grow up, but the game is fun
It took me a while to figure out that your TRAIN IS MOVING! (There's no reference to see that it's moving) Very cool once I figured it out. Those squares are jerks.
@SgtBursk - the conduits add myyyyssstteeerrryyyyy ooooooooooooo
Pro tip: Clippy is "summoned" by your distress beacon. Unbuild your distress beacon if you won't want him to come "help" you :)
I like the idea but there's too much waiting in the beginning. Maybe make the first few goals a bit quicker to help me get addicted?
Consensus here is that it's super cool. How did you make the images? Actual pictures of a clay model?
I got stuck in the wall and my little ball was not happy. Very cute game. I liked playing in the water.
Cute llama. What does the rope do?
It's like looking at a shiny power point! I just approved everyone's request. Not sure if my bank is good or not.
Cool idea, I wish it were easier to make the ships explode and fly apart :) Also wish they went faster.
Nice use of the two button theme
balllooooooons!
Boy those controls are awkward, but I blame the theme ^.^ Cute graphics. I would have liked if your guy could go faster.
Really fun. We played a lot of games. I would have liked to see a deeper strategy though :)
Nifty graphics. I get that the leaves give you more resources but I couldn't figure out what else to do. What are the fruits for?
This totally encapsulates my feelings about my concept going into the game (the great sketch image you made and the world you have in your head) and what one is actually able to get accomplished in two days.
Good start to the game. I'd like to see your main dude walk faster and maybe have a dodge roll? It's really hard to kill the robots without taking damage because their range is longer.
Really cool idea, the post LD was fun, wish there were more ships to destroy or that you could sell/rearrange parts. The original was too slow but you fixed that.
My son and I loved this and played for a really long time!
Is there a score or anything? Can you explain this a bit more?
Good graphics, fun idea, like most LD games it could use a bit of polish.
Aww. I wanted more levels! Cool idea and I like the graphic style.
really fun but it stopped working in the middle of a good game.
Unfortunately my work computer is not good enough to play this :( will try again at home
Fun! Not really challenging though and my knights kept getting in my way so I couldn't move. Still, so satisfying to watch them fight.
Fun but I got stuck once I could double jump
I enjoyed this very much! A map would be the only thing I could think of to help make decisions.
Awesome game! I really liked the puzzles and the ending
It kept getting stuck but it looked like a fun game
I also Enjoyed smashing the guy with the whip, fun game!
Haha I liked the game within the game mechanic. Well done but thought there would be more.
The game is fun and I accidentally destroyed my own catapult
Enjoyable, but my poor builders kept getting stuck and I couldn't progress!
I accidentally deconstructed the thing I was Going to build!
It is a good game and I like the story.
really fun game! My best was 77
@Wevel -- the turtle does just do random things until you train it. Training is... hard to explain. Ideally there would be a long tutorial to introduce the training concepts but I haven't yet figured that out yet. Basically there's a bunch of weights for what the turtle can do after a command, and reinforcing the correct behavior makes it more likely to do that next time. Repeat this many times and your turtle will do exactly what you expect, most of the time, if you trained it correctly! :)
fun game!
fun game!
Fun catapult game!
I like the game but I got Stuck on crowded.
