Rex Peppers, I'll be able to port this to HTML5 in the future, but I don't think it will be in the next 2 weeks :(
If I do, I'll let you know, I'll leave a message in your own game page if you wish so :)
Just shoot the "mines" quickly enough before they hit you. They get faster as you progress in the level, and if you manage to destroy them all, you get a 5000 bonus points added to your score.
You can only shot once, and will only be able to shoot again if your shot actually hits a mine. If you miss a shot, you're dead :)
I haven't even tried the GM:S Physics engine yet. I am using GM:S like it is GM8 :D
I dunno, I think when you have to control something that's being shot at constantly, the player will prefer to have precise controls.
Usually no one likes shmups with inertia, and that's for a reason.
I downgraded you a little bit in the audio rating because you shouldn't be using music that's not yours in the Compo.
Other than that:
Lovely graphics. The gameplay gets repetitive very fast, but that's not a real problem since the game is fun while it lasts. The option of 3 different characters is pretty cool and, like it has already been said, they are different and balanced enough so the player may want to play with all of them (I liked the Shotgun guy the most, while my best results were with the flamethrower guy)
The recoil thing isn't bad except by the fact you can get ouf of the screen. Why did you leave it like that? This really shouldn't be like that.
Overall a very nice game :)
How did you come up with 42 mbs for such a simple game?
There's really no reason to use mouse button to shoot, since the mouse itself does nothing in the game.
Even if you want to add a secondary weapon ,you should use Z and X or Space and Ctrl or any other combination of keys, not the mouse.
The enemies move to fast, and some of them can actually move out of the screen, which isn't a good thing.
Other than that, solid entry :)
I am downloading your game now (59 mb is pretty heavy!)
But as you asked about my game, "Earth Destroyer", what does the Bonus Level do.. I just answered your question on my own game page, please take a look there :)
First, let me say this, the music on this is GODDAMN AWESOMELY GOOD. Would you mind sharing what program you used to do those musics? They are really very, very good.
I found the game to be very enjoyable. It does have its share of troubles though... the resources stuff is kinda confusing in the beginning, and at first I thought I was supposed to just hang around and kill stuff. I even thought my grenades weren't working 'til I figured out I was supposed to produce them :)
You could have done a crosshair instead of using the default system mouse pointer for the player's aim.
But all in all, the game is pretty good indeed. I did like it a lot.
How did you end with 25+ mb on this game? :)
Killed everyone, escaped the village :)
The game would be more fun if it was more challenging. The way it is, everything is too easy.
I can stay below the line of fire of tanks, but still able to destroy them and also capture the humans, which makes impossible to lose the game.
Very cool idea. Beating the bot was easy, yet I found it to be surprisingly intelligent. Good job on progamming the AI!
Genious idea!
Like people have said, its difficulty to spot the obstacles. The graphics are very good but also confusing when everything is moving.
Also, next time you make a GM:S game for Ludum Dare, don't export it as an installer, but a compressed application folder. It's a lot more comfortable for people who'll test your game.
Nice game! :)
Good idea, but like people say, the controls are hard to get used. I just kept pressing all buttons and spamming the mouse button to play it :)
Ok, the Kittens level is too annoying, they move too fast and too randomly
Don't take it as a bad comment though, I tried it a lot, and this is a good sign :)
It's worthy noting Centiped is originally an arcade game :) And old favourite of mine.
Pretty cool concept, fun to play for a while :)
I had one problem playing the game... when I press UP or DOWN, the browser also scrolls up and down.
I didn't downrate the game because of this, but if there's anyway to fix this, I think it would be a good idea to do it.
I am using Google Chrome on Windows 7 here.
There is a map?
At first searching for flowers was kinda boring, but then it became better and better. Loved some of ths sfx. Fits the theme perfectly. It just needs some kind of challenge to be real fun.. I should get hit by cars or something
The presentation and visuals are really awesome, but the gameplay itself isn't that hot. The way the screen "shakes" constantly may make the game look good, but makes the game harder than it needs to play. The secondary weapon seems to be really unuseful, and the robot arms seems to move more randomly than under the control of my mouse.
Loved the game. The music is awesome and the way it slow downs while the bear is getting sleepy its brilliant. I usually don't like much randomness in my games in a way I can't control if I can win or not (Like the bees which appear randomly), but all in all a pretty good entry.
One of the best games I played so far in this Ludum Dare.
If you still want to try out my game, you just have to press enter to start it.
NO TUTORIAL. MINMALISM
Move with arrows, shoot with control or space.
Every enemy destroyed gives you points. Grab hearts and you get points. Grab diamonds and you get points. Touch enemies and you lose points. Touch the explosions and you lose points. Touch the borders and you lose points.
It's possible to have negative scores. My worst score is around -30k points
The thing is thinking about when and how to kill enemies. The more enemies you kill, more they spawn. The more damage you receive, less enemies are spawned. SHooting enemies gives you points, but it may be a good idea many times (even more against the heart-givers)
I shouldn't explain none of this. MINIMALISM
You just press enter
MINIMALISM
I find it really funny, last LD I made a game with very smooth, rigid, precise controls and people said it would be more fun if the controls were more looose.
Now I make a game with looser controls, and people complain they should be more precise.
Guess you can never make everyone happy :)
I still think this game here benefits from the inertia and bouncing, it helps the whole "wtf" atmosphere, while my previous game demanded precise controls :D
?? You don't need the mouse for anything in the game.
Does it ever ends?
You used the same concept as I did :)
Except you did a proper game with nice, detailed GFX, I approached every aspect of my game with "minmalism" on mind :)
My only problem with it is that's just too easy. You can just keep moving left-right non stop, while presing space very fast, and no mine will escape your barrier of shots. I even let a few escape to try make the game a little harder and, still, the strategy was flawless.
The game just freezes in a black screen here, after the "Powered by Unity" screen.
Loved the game. Well polished, fun to play and some really devious puzzles! Loved it!
SPACE HARRIER!
I voted 5/5 for nearly everything on this game but innovation (Since its a lot like.. SPace Harrier :D)
This is the kind of game I'd like to see more on Ludum Dare. Ok, it was made by 4 guys and in 72 hrs, so it's a lot easier to do it than in the compo... still, it's really what I think maybe some people will pissed at this, but that's what I want to see more on Ludum Dare for those reasons:
A) It's not a pseudo-intelectual-artsy-hipster-bullshit-game.
B) It doesn't last just 30 seconds
C) It feels very complete, with good music, good graphics, etc
D) It is a shitload fun of play.
Fuck it, I don't want innovative games, I want games that are fun, that just make me want to keep playing.
This one is a little too repetitive, still it's very fun.
Doobie, aren't you sure you just lost all energy in one of the worlds?
The platform section indeed need some fine-tuing, but the time ended :)
There's too much inertia on it.
I should have slowed down the speed of the character a little bit there. Oh well.
My best score is around 21000 , but I am the guy who created the game, hehe :)
Whalebot, they are actually very easy to predict. Each world only spams power-ups for 2 other 2 worlds (Check beloew the energy bar of one world to see what powerups it spams).
And they are always spammed at the same order and at the same rate.
I've got an error on the OpenAL32.dll file and can't run the game :(
The graphics are sweet and the sound is really top-notch.
But is the game really supposed to last like 1 minute? I didn't find the game hard at all, I died like once when I still hadn't understood how the ladder works, and the once more trying to go up to rescue the girl.
And I was really surprised to see the game end after so abruptly and quickly.
Also didn't understand how it fits the theme.
The secret is that we are actually playing with other people, right ? The other colonies are other people who are connected to the game and playing it, right?
Yeah, I am pretty sure now this is an online game, and that's the "secret" that links it to the theme. You can even see where's the other players are pointing on screen.
It would be nicer if there was some way to interact with them.
It plays like Katamari Damacy.
That was pretty good! Excellent ambiance and a very inspired mechanic! Nice job!
The intro drags on for too long, and like it has been said, there's not a lot to play. I nearly gave up thinking there was no gameplay at all with such a boring and long intro with no way to skip it.
Very nice twist on Sokoban, pretty good game!
Also got the black screen with the unity logo and nothing else
Like others said, don't do a installer. You can make a single .EXE with GM Studio.
Also, try to make your games run at 60fps instead of 30fps, it makes it a lot more smoother :)
The controls are sluggish and the screen resolution changing from screen to screen is really weird.
Now, I disagree with Buttsteam. It's NOT too early for your kid. I bet he was loving the challenge of doing this, and he will be compelled to do it again and learn more about coding for the next time.
This is an amazing process for your kid, and something from which he will learn a lot.
I work as a programming teacher today, for kids aged between 15 and 19.
I begun coding when I was around 6-7 years old, using MSX Basic. When I was around 11 years old I was already coding games (Very simple ones, obviously) and some more complex stuff.
I thank this for the job I have today and for make me able to think logically and be able to learn new stuff very quickly nowadays.
Even if your kid doesn't want to be a programmer in the future, this is something that will only make good to him. I hope to see more games from him in the next LDs :) You are a great dad for doing this :)
Very cool game! The controls are a bit sluggish, sometimes the player doesn't jump when I press up (usually after landing) . Still very good game!
Did not work to me, it suggested it could be I need a 64 bits processor to run it (I don't have it)
Well, I reached level 3.
The real problem with the game is that you have to consume power to find coins that could be ANYWHERE. IMO this is a serious design flaw, even more when there's barely enough power to finish a level when you already know where the coins are. You need to keep pressing M randomly to find out the coins and you end up wasting all the power.
This actually could make for an interesting "frustrating/fun" experience IF I didn't had to replay every level again after I fail.
I usually do like the "Go back to level 1" old school mechanic, but it's not fair when it's basically impossible to beat a level on the first try (and probably the 2nd, 3rd, 4th....)
Shame it's so short :)
The player could move faster, it would be better.
The game is bugged, like it has already been reported (I die for no reason, sometimes two spikes of same color appear at the same time). It's a good game, it just need the bugs ironed out.
Finished the game. Pretty cool, the pace is awesome. Loved the sound of the game. At first it looked boring and the puzzles were easy, but then it became really interesting.
It definitely needs more puzzles, pretty good game overall!
The fact you can "lock" the players on place make it a lot easy. Most of the time you can ignore one screen, play one side, then play the other.
Web link is not working here!
Lovely game, it just lacks sound... and also it barely connects with the theme... but its a lot of fun, and I loved the graphics!
Liked the graphics a lot and the music is pretty good.
The game felt very polished, but it does have a few problems.
First, it is really very confusing to play. Also, the collision detection seems to have some problems... I never know if I actually hit an enemy or not, I am not even sure if they need lots of hits to die. It's very annoying to see your sword hitting the enemy, the enemy has no feedback at all and at the exact next frame jumps and attacks you.
And then you fall back, and fall straight to the water, losing TWO hearts for an enemy attack that was completely unfair.
The game also relies too much on "Leaps of faith", I need to go down but I have no idea if there will be water or ground below me.
I once switched world and a frog was spammed right where I was! (And then I fell back.. INTO THE WATER!).
The game becomes too annoying to be any fun because of all this. The game is very well programed, but it needs a lot of polish in the gameplay department.
Ok, this was freaking awesome and the best game I've played so far. Great idea, the difficulty raises at the right moment.
The only thing is that after asteroids get into the street, you just ignore the space part and just try to survive, hehe. But guess there was no other way to do it.
Very cool concept, it could use better controls in the platform side, since like it has been said, the character floats a lot. Also, like it has already been mentioned, the game could have started slower and then speed up with time.
The spam S key to render multiple boxes actually makes the game more fun , don't ever fix it :)
I got a Java Exception ERror on Windows version.
I'll update my Java version and I'll let you know :)
The bullets need to be faster, and the shooting sound is very annoying :)
But it's a nice concept.
It looks like my videocard is "Too crappy" for this, lol :)
Simple game, but really fun. I loved how the levels are randomly generated, it gives it a lot of replay value.
It just needed a score to make it more interesting.
Also, it has already been said, the physics have some problems, with players sticking on walls, but nothing that hurts the game.
That's a pretty good one!
Nice game, Made 56 points at my best game.
When I was playing this, my Internet Connection went down, and since this was already open, I kept playing it for a while.
Managed to score 196, I even took a screenshot of it, hehe.
Very cool game, liked it a lot!
Hey, you just played my game, "Videogame Hero". Can you tell me on what "level" you got stuck, since there are no order to play them?
Did you try to press "Enter" to get back to the hub?
Thank you for the feedback.
ALso, your game didn't run on my machine. Does it only work on 64 bits computers?
Hahaha, loved this. Simple and fun, loved the atmosphere, love the visuals, the pace is awesome.. this is simple and a lot of fun.
The music was made with thay Python program that does music automatically, wasn't it? :D
I liked the game overall. It seems that a missile travels out of screen its not destroyed at all, and if you keep firing like crazy the game starts to crawl, probably because there are dozens of missiles out of screen doing nothing that should had been removed from the game :P
Download link is not working!
What the hell I just played ? :)
Ouch, my ears! LOL :)
I loved the atmosphere of the game. It took me a while to understand, then it was easy.
I had no problem with the controls or the camera at all.
Also, good to see something coded in a more "pure" way, I don't know what you used to code this, but seeing something that weighs less than 512kb is a relief :)
The game is BLOODY AWESOME. But it barely fits the theme.. it looks like the theme was just an after-thought, you could had completely ignored the world-switch gimmick and the game would still work incredibly well.
Still the game is a lot of fun. The difficulty is where its supposed to be. Awesome job!
This is incredibly well polished and a lot fun to play. Loved it a lot, very good work!
