LD30 — Connected Worlds

Heart Star by AdventureIslands 2014-08-26T15:38:00

Wow, holy crap! This is super-well done, and the mechanics, art, sound, everything come off as really polished. It's pretty inhuman you did this in 48 hours. Great game, one of my favorite submissions. :) And I love them pixel people ^^

ENTANGLEMENT by mtrc 2014-08-26T15:27:00

Fun game! I also got absolutely stumped in the level with the three switches in series with so many possibilities. I guess perhaps for a full-release you might consider implementing restrictions on when entanglement can happen and for which blocks? Great feel and game otherwise.

Upside Down by kewry 2014-08-26T02:15:00

Fun game. Was a little hard to read at first due to colors, but got into it pretty quickly.

In The Shadows by Nokifict 2014-08-26T16:28:00

Interesting concept approached here, but felt like too much too soon! And, unfortunately there were a couple of bugs that ended up with me crashing out. :(

Cool art though! The look was really slick to everything.

Connected Souls by lekochen 2014-08-26T02:06:00

Interesting game, especially for the Her section. Though I found it fiendishly difficult! I just couldn't visualize or understand the patterns needed. Well, I must be getting old. Fun stuff. :)

Starving Symbiosis by Lasty 2014-08-27T03:26:00

Would have been great to see the zombie waves indeed. Just running around with the portals and ferrying items back and forth was actually pretty satisfying. Played this for longer than some of the other submissions with content!

I Must See You by Split82 2014-08-25T13:58:00

Bravo. This was totally in-line with the theme and is really great on its own. I hope to see an independent release of this. Can't believe you made it in 48 hours. :)

BOND by ConflictiveLabs 2014-08-29T10:54:00

Aw, too bad you couldn't finish! I just tried the jam version. Eager to try the post-jam version... there are some very cool mechanics in here. Here we go!

Yay, progress! by hissssssssss 2014-08-29T17:25:00

LOL what the heck.

funny at the least!

Jack Primus: Peacekeeper by TeamQuadratic 2014-08-27T06:03:00

Great intro like everyone has mentioned. I found the bosses rather unforgiving, though solvable indeed for how to fight them. Felt like the game could have benefited a lot from physics having more time spent on them. Again great pacing for the opening sequence, had a few giggles.

Honko's Worlds by FrankieSmileShow 2014-08-26T01:50:00

Great art, I loved it and it made me think of the good old SEGA days. :) Game was a bit tough, and I felt like the moment-to-moment gameplay could use a bit of tuning. But, the overall look and feel were great. Port it to a wider screen so I can look at them pixels!!

Frog, Raccoon, Mosquito by clofresh 2014-08-27T17:28:00

Interesting game. A bit disorienting though, had to read through the controls a couple of times before I could figure out what the mozzie was doing! Tried to eat a frog or two, never could - raccoons get instagibbed by those mosquitoes!

juxtapose by zillix 2014-08-27T06:50:00

That was great.

I got totally sucked in and confused, but found my way bit by bit inside the game without needing to look at the comments.

I can't believe this was made in 48 hours. Amazing entry.

Duality by NIGIC 2014-08-26T17:01:00

Game was a little hard to get running, but I've never played many graphical adventures. Found myself scrolling up and down constantly to see what was available and what were my actions - maybe a semi-graphical UI would have been useful? Was interesting and mysterious as a setting, though.

Crossover: Fanfiction by Cosrnos 2014-08-27T05:50:00

Hahahaha hilarious and horrifying. Here's one of mine.

"Sue Sylvester is the new captain of Shrek's Swamp's cheer squad and finds out last year's cheer captain stole all the best routines from Matress Land's school. An intense rivalry with Fairy Godmother leads to a new friendship when they compete at nationals for the golden Artie's wheelchair."

Ahahah and my first employee had like 30 creativity and 4 grammer. Join up with the crossover fanfic biz! Nothing can go wrong!!

Great play. :)

Red Entity by danbo 2014-08-29T03:10:00

OH MY GOD HOLY SHIT.

THAT WAS AWESOME.

I can definitely see the influences here - I can feel some rocket knight, gunstar heroes, and a hell, even a bit of armored core with the mech's seriously destructive laser blade. You guys had the feel down pat, on top of an absolutely pumping soundtrack and incredible pixel art.

The rhythm of switching from melee use to special weapons (and timing mech transformation!) and the feedback of blowing up enemies was absolutely perfect. I have to admit I actually got goosebumps every time I laserbladed some enemy mechs.

Only comment I had was the connected worlds theme was a bit of a stretch, but hell, this is a 5* entry. Hats off to you guys for making this in 72 hours.

Nevermind playing more if you made more. I would buy this game no question if you made a full release.

Oooover the double rainbow (Baldaquin IV) by Marcellus 2014-08-26T02:57:00

Awesome, awesome idea. Only wish you had more time to pull it off. Hitting a black hole was kind of punishing and put me off of finishing it - but great idea.

Beyond the Rift by Chaoseiro 2014-08-27T03:16:00

Great graphics and interesting premise. Would have been great to see what kind of expanded puzzles and situations there could have been! A shame about the time.

Notes from a Mad Mage by Razoric 2014-08-29T17:17:00

Great game! My hand is falling off, but it was fun to mass up a massive fireball army of death. Am imagining how this would work with more action elements (like a TD variant) vs. puzzle elements! The waiting becomes taxing after a while. But great fun. Super-satisfying to blow stuff up.

HeShe by Manou 2014-08-29T02:34:00

Great little entry. Shame about the physics not getting fixed - I think a good solution would be to add a "ghost-jump" timer after detecting a ground collision within a few frames, allowing you to transition into jump state that shuts off a few frames once you're airborne. I'd say keep the rotating cubes!!

Otherwise I loved the death and victory sound/animations. They felt pretty great!

Nonomnia by robodylan 2014-08-26T02:25:00

Congrats on building the engine. (and esp in a real coding language) I kind of ran into a related problem myself. For my entry (48-hour), I only got to spend the last 3 hours on content! All the rest was bashing my head against the engine... on GameMaker no less. :) I feel your pain!

Tactical Dimensions by Citsua 2014-08-27T03:10:00

Really cool concept indeed. It was a little impenetrable with having to read a lot of text, but there's a lot of cool stuff I can imagine to do with this game, + content. Hope to see a more completed version sometime. :)

Faith Jump by muriel 2014-08-25T15:13:00

Pretty fun! The physics felt a little blocky, but the concept here was pretty good. Got stuck on that rotating platform level!

Parallel worlds by Druid 2014-08-25T14:51:00

fun and ridiculous. great play!

Warmageddon by schizokoa 2014-08-29T17:22:00

Tried playing against myself for a while! There's a lot of meat in here. Would have loved to see some effects or hits when the little minions smack each other. Satisfying to wipe out a few lieutenants with an explosion! Sadly don't have any multi-touch devices though...! :(

Coplanarity by awsumpwner27 2014-08-27T05:57:00

Cool entry! I found some trouble when figuring out where to go (particularly in the last level where you must run backwards) but it's a great start. The art and mood were very cool, only wished there had been music to finish off the mood.

Escape by Budda 2014-08-26T02:44:00

hmm running game.bat didn't work! :(

InterGalactic Mailman by lucienpro 2014-08-29T17:31:00

Great shot, and for being so young. Keep at it and put out the best you can do! Loved the graphics on this, though difficulty was high indeed.

Ran into a bug with your coin object attempting to reference the player object after having been killed.

Outdoor by Warboys 2014-08-28T03:49:00

That was really an intriguing play, Sam! I tried three attempts at the game:

1st time I couldn't figure out the Brother's happiness was kind of a meta-energy tool for everything else and learned nothing. Got shot by scavengers.

2nd time I trained for a lot of speed and random skills - used first aid. Dodged the first bullet then got shot by scavengers.

3rd time around, there were a lot of radio blasts about bugs. I went for a balanced approach, + went with a bit of flora and fauna (but wasn't sure how much to increase?) and got eggs laid in me by a bug swarm. D: D: D: I got found out by smell even though my speed was pretty high.

I might try a playthrough or two later. Trying to figure out correlations between stats and how high I need to get them - the grisly deaths are a surprisingly effective challenge to lure me back.

The Verse by simplesmiler 2014-08-26T03:01:00

Cool idea, was a little tough for me to figure out what was going on.

Reminds me of some of the old PSN games like Flow. Great mood and feel of the whole game.

HopSlide by managore 2014-09-16T11:57:00

oh man I can see why you got top in theme! this was awesome to play!

I managed to solve all 6 of them! but, they were all really well done, and all "taught" - which blew me away. None of them felt too obtuse!

Hello Operator by Chris M 2014-08-27T17:09:00

oh man!! It crashes me indeed. I need to see the ending of this!! the mood and pacing are great - I can't believe that this was the result of a pivot. It feels like this is exactly what you set out to do and nailed it. and I felt so dumb for not writing the numbers down. so, so dumb. If it plays all the way through on your machine, I'm eager to try it out. (We should do a post-dare beer night or something!)

R-elink: A link between worlds by RaycoSantana 2014-08-28T02:08:00

Interesting idea! And the look and feel felt great for 48 hours. One suggestion I'd have is to have some kind of unique ability when the phone is not engaged; as it was, I felt like I was just playing a game within a game; as if the phone was the only interface and I was playing a normal platformer.

Close Your Eyes by nonetheless 2014-08-29T18:02:00

Really innovative. Reminds me of the games like Chip's Challenge where they're deceptively simple and light, but you could get lost on it for hours. Great play.

Parallel Rift by liquidminduk 2014-08-25T13:45:00

Came out nicely Dan! The look and mood are very slick as I knew it'd turn out. :) Found myself wishing for a score ticker to see how well I was doing.

Lenore: Dark Days Ahead by Team Luminous 2014-08-26T02:13:00

That was pretty interesting and sucked me in! Unfortunately, I seemed to keep dying on random tiles?! I couldn't figure out if it was a border of going to the right (ran out of oil?) or using up too many moves; I think it might have been a bug or an invisible spider as it almost seemed to be at random... but I can't be sure. Fun play!

IRMCO Space Miners by Josh H 2014-08-25T14:44:00

Pretty intuitive! Amassed a fortune of everything on Normal, but no planets spawned with Lithium. Oh well.

The Never Ending Cycle by AlucardX60 2014-08-28T02:31:00

Dark Souls was an interesting base game to use here. I feel like the pacing needed to be quickened in terms of leveling up as a traditional RPG though - but some interesting and exciting moments of finding equipment on the ground, Dark Souls style. Very great look.

Shotgun Shinobi by QuexD 2014-08-27T05:14:00

Indeed looks kinda like a 6-hour exercise. Hopefully was a good one to have! Found the shotgun redundant, while the ninja has the mobility and firepower to take on everything. Then you run out of ammo too.

Connected Worlds by ajayajayaj 2014-08-28T02:34:00

That was actually pretty great. Got stumped on level 2 for a while. There are some interesting tricks in here.

Resource Islands by soerxpso 2014-08-27T05:35:00

Pretty ambitious idea! Minecraft with teleporters. Though I had to lean a lot on my knowledge of Minecraft to see how far I'd get. Controls and interface were pretty unwieldly, I have to admit.

Connectris by Amvere 2014-08-27T06:27:00

Mind bending but cool! A pretty awesome mishmash of all the different kinds of block puzzlers and a good line with the theme. Kind of wished I could just hit one button to move the blocks instead of clicking on them though!

Journey to the 5th Planet - My first Ludum Dare! by KevRevDev 2014-08-27T03:34:00

There were some great plays with the double-jump. The gravity changing was pretty cool and it would have been really interesting to have that as the core mechanic of the game - having the same controls, but different world physics in each case. Don't know if it would have worked, but I enjoyed the floatiness of the later worlds. :) Got stuck later on though, with the jumping bug level. I think I reached a shaft where you had to angle a jump arc trajectory perfectly and I kept dying over and over. :(

Invertigo by H1S2 2014-08-26T02:51:00

Great graphics and look! I hacked at it a couple of times but dying was just so demoralizing. :( Would have been nice to get more wiggle room for the jumps! Couldn't finish though I wanted to see what was at the end pretty bad...

Bald-Faced SPACE TRUCKERS by Axebane 2014-08-26T02:34:00

Cool concept. :) Was hoping there'd be more resource-management dimensions or risk/reward dimensions. The pixel art had this great early-90's American feel.

Waterfly Octus by gillenew 2014-08-26T01:57:00

Great art here, it looked absolutely awesome. Like the others have mentioned though, game is a bit tough! IMO the checkpoints were a little too far apart as there was a lot of waiting here. But maybe that was your ploy to let us drool over the art a little more. ;)

World Portals by Keevinw 2014-08-25T13:52:00

difficulty made the game interesting, but feels pretty basic without much relation to theme as others before have mentioned!

FriendZone Adventure by brombatti 2014-08-27T02:52:00

Fun premise! Unfortunately it does indeed feel incomplete. Couldn't figure out the controls in many cases until I button-mashed, hope I wasn't missing out on some instructions somewhere? Art style was generally pretty great, and felt cinematic even at this level of completion.

Agricombo by ItsFulmy 2014-08-28T02:13:00

I tried zooming out to play, interesting concept! I found the difficulty a little unforgiving though; monsters spawn right off the edge of the screen and kill you instantly.

HEAL by Stepwise 2014-08-25T05:15:00

Thanks for the heads up JannesN. Tested with Firefox and Chrome, they both worked. Will look for workarounds in the meantime.

HEAL by Stepwise 2014-08-25T05:16:00

*Tested with Firefox and IE. Chrome indeed complains.

HEAL by Stepwise 2014-08-25T13:36:00

Issue solved on Chrome. Download away. :)

Disconnect by banana4life 2014-08-26T03:56:00

Great game and idea. I got stuck for a little while and got frustrated with all the deaths! But, remembering time and checkpoints would have been a good chunk of code I guess. Great fun!

Driver's License by Sanguine 2014-09-16T03:16:00

ahahaha oh my god I was laughing so hard at the whole premise I was crying.

Couldn't find anyone to send me stuff though :<

awesome game!

Clashing Galaxies by lkr 2014-08-28T01:59:00

Pretty fun! Took me two tries to beat back the enemy. Watching their influence sphere shrink was incredibly satisfying. SHIP RUSH!

[I started out with gold mines, then to radio enhancers when reaching "contested areas" - after influence stopped being a thing, I switched over to full robotics/fleet until the first line of planets was captured. Switched to balanced eco/macro and it seemed to be a landslide victory from there!]

Color Wheel by Robot Souls Games 2014-08-27T05:08:00

Interesting little roguelike. I couldn't figure out what the benefits or strengths of using each weapon were, but I did get sucked in for a good 30 minutes. I ended up killing enemies in the fire world easily then got stuck with the firewall dude. Then I went to yellow and got beaten back by a camel. Went to Orange and killed olmec easily enough. Tried the camel again and got beat back. Went to blue to grind gold and killed loch ness easily enough, then went back to try and kill the camel. Got beat back and went to orange to grind up and got dwarf'd. Fun game, wish I knew more of how it worked!

Soul Shepherds: Passing Ghasts by A-Flat Miner Studios 2014-08-26T15:06:00

Cool idea! Found myself wishing I could do levels perfectly, or do chunks perfectly. Realized it'd be pretty hard! The sketched art was a pretty nice touch, as were the sounds.

Meet The Moon by K55 2014-08-26T02:19:00

Hey, Chrome blocks this! Try zipping it up with a password, then zipping the zip and password file. Not sure if it works with UE4, but it seemed to work with GameMaker.

Fire ze Missiles! by bushmango 2014-08-27T03:03:00

Great entry!! I loved how you mixed battleships with a kind of economy and expansion game.

Would definitely see myself spending an afternoon playing this with some of my friends. Great stuff!

Just Shoot Glowy Balls by ericdpitts 2014-08-28T01:29:00

Great ambiance like the others have set, and the lighting effects are really nice. Movement of the spheres and depth is kind of hard to gauge though. A pity about the ant-defense game not making it in!

Trappy Tomb by jimmypaulin 2014-08-29T04:08:00

Wow, I just gave this a perfect score!

I literally could not stop laughing the whole way through. There were so many ridiculous messages, especially in the pits. I would love to see a post-mortem on how you approached making this!

Finished it twice. Will anyone beat my score?! <:

Dreamless by Dietrich Epp 2014-08-27T05:24:00

Hey, this is great.

I played all the way through to the end, and I was curious to see how the relationship between the girl and the shadow would turn out. Missed one of the dialogue boxes, though.

Great game and content.

A Glove Between Worlds by coldman 2014-08-26T17:09:00

Great art and looked super nice and soft. The controls felt a bit clunky though, but it was an interesting idea.
