so cool - love this is dea - thanks for making this
Love the art! :D
Great art and humor :)
Wow that was fun! Would be cool if there was a mode where accuracy ramped up your score?
I love these characters! I agree with rexpeppers, my best strategy was just but mashing near the bugs. Also once I died I couldn't see my score because the retry screen got in the way, so I have no idea what I got.
Awesome aesthetics!
Best game I have tried so far :)
I laugh out loud on the space bar on the spacebar from running out of space - in space joke :)
Some game play ideas:
Maybe lock down buttons you have pressed for about 1s to prevent spamming. I was usually spamming the buttons on the lowest row
Ability like if you pressed caps tab or shift you get a beam that clears that row but has a long cool down.
I'm using a Scandinavian keyboard so some of the button positions are swapped, mainly ";", "[", "=" and "-", so if you would remove the left column it would fix that problem or make it customizable.
I would also be cool to put out blockades, like in plant vs zombies, so you block some spots.
And enemies with different movement, zig sagging, walks a full row fast then going to the next column, an enemy laying eggs that would crack to multiple small ones...
Great game! and inspiring, I hope that you continue developing it :)
Thanks for the feedback guys! <3 @rexpeppers yeah that would have been a great idea! But the game ramps up to insane quite fast so we forfeited it, perhaps if we update it sometime soon! :D @oats Oh bugger! We completely forgot to work on casting it to the game over screen xD hahaha ya win some ya lose some!
Great work @sgtweirdo, was a lot of fun and is also good for remembering where keys are on my keyboard! Found myself having to check where the numbers were a lot as I rarely use them so the muscle memory just isn't there lol. Could also have a slight penalty to your score if you hit the wrong key (HARD MODE maybe?)
@oats Ahhhh ! I didn't notice that bug :shame: ! My bad, the score is effectively hidden on Game-Over. I'll try to get a bugfix up quickly ! Thank you all for the reviews ! It was a blast making this game ! @ristoretto That's a lot of nice gameplay ideas ! Perhaps with a bit more time we could have added some of thoses. Albeit I won't be adding features other than quick bug-fixes on the last upload timer, it wouldn't be fair ^^.
Again, thank you all for all the comments !
This game is RAD! Feels like I'm jamming on a keyboard (the musical kind) with the dope music. I like how, even if I start losing, the dope beat just picks up lol. I think my highest score was 900ish? The UI covers up the score at the end. Overall this is pretty solid. I think it's a bit easy to keep the aliens isolated at the top, but when they finally break through it gets wild. Good job!
It's quite a fun game, and I enjoyed squashing aliens by typing. The music was quite good as well.
Nice game, special mention to the graphist. Too bad you the only joke is in the concept, you could have used the background to add a few more jokes. The game also lacks some incentive for trynig not to miss, but all in all, I played 5 times and I could continue without any problem (btw, my high score is 2450), so yeah, it's a good game
Very cool idea for game
Great game! Very unique idea, with good execution! The music was funky and cool, and I had a blast mashing keys to squish little aliens! It's harder than it looks! Main problem is you can just mash random keys and get pretty far. Other than that, this game is awesome!
Awesome! Music was solid and gameplay was solid. It was fun and frustrating and made me want to keep playing. Definitely harder than it looks!
This is by far the best implementation of the theme that I've seen so far! Awesome job!
Very very cool game, I love it! :)
This was a very creative take on the theme. It almost got a perfect score but got a 4.5 on innovation. But I have seen this kind of game before.
It was fun, interesting, and the graphics were pretty cool to. You end up with a really good game, congratulations!
A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
It was very fun! And it was a great use of theme. Like others said, best strategy is to smash the nearby keys. Even with an azerty keyboard (with qwerty layout enabled) it is entirely playable. Great jobs guys! :D
haha, love the idea. although i'm quite bad at this game. but it was very fun, thanks!
Extremely creative! Love the intuitive mechanic of the game, and very entertaining humor overall.
Every aspect of this game is great! I love the old school visuals and sound effects. I don't know if schools still teach / have typing classes but this would be a perfect game for learning how to type.
I liked this game, but the pixel art lettering on the keys made it slightly hard for me to read, IMO. Loved the funky music and especially the interpretation of the theme.
Won't lie, that is a hard game. It reminds me of an old games I used to play in school to learn typing.
Very witty interpretation of the theme, and huge fun to play! I played til my keyboard broke (it was worth it :) but still didn't manage to win... My "I type very fast but in angarams" approach didn't even swing it.. Great graphics (a lot of work must have gone into that!)
err, is the answer 42?
This might be the best game I've played so far. Love the keyboard usage and the fun little graphics. Great jokes inserted into the game. Over all great game and would love to see this continued.
Love this game and idea. Music is fun, but starts a bit too low in the beginning; would be cool if it sped up as aliens get into the bar to increase the sense of panic. While button mashing becomes a thing in the beginning, I think the speed/regeneration increase of aliens helps to alleviate this eventually. Maybe only allow two fingers at a time and slow down alien regeneration and/or speed to compensate that difficulty. It seems the difficulty can ramp up pretty quick with current settings. Overall, awesome game idea. Great job!
I had lots of fun playing this! The idea is awesome and it's an hard and challenging game. It's also nicely polished and audio is on point.
Good work!
I can't play the game correctly cause I don't know my QWERTY (not sure if I would be better if you had programmed an AZERTY version, but eh, that's my excuse) but I still had a great time.
The play on word is terrible and perfect at the same time, the fingers crashing on the keyboard feel extremely satisfying, the sprites are cute and the space bar music is super catchy. Great game!
It's a lot like my KeyTD from a few years ago (although mine had AZERTY and other layouts :P)! Great graphical concept and pun though. I wish it was easier to see where the bugs were, and the keys mapped better to real space. Right now it was kinda tricky to hit a bug just by using your keyboard muscle memory. The cooldown for attacks made it feel less fun too, and still spammy, even though the idea was to limit spam. Sweet music too.
What a great and funny way to interpret theme :joy: I laughed really hard reading description :)
Game is well polished and i really enjoy it a lot!
I have nothing more to say - you pretty much nailed it!
PS. Great music choice as well :)
THAT-WAS-AWESOME! The music, the graphics, and most importantly the idea itself. First I was like "Cool, what a cute aliens going to a party... Ok... what should I do then? Will there be any enemies or something?... GAME OVER... WHAT?! I was supposed to kill those cuties?!" HAHA.
- PROS: Great music, graphics and execution. Very entertaining and arcady/infinit gameplay makes it even more enjoyable.
- CONS: Nothing (maybe the music was too loud, but that can be changed on player's side, so no probs there)
@everyone
I can't thank you all enough for all the feedback ... This is my and @sgtweirdo first game-jam, so we went for a simple idea. I personally thought the idea in itself would be a little bit 'not enough', a bit shallow if you would. I am really, really surprised and moved by all the feedback. I'm glad to have been proven wrong.
Thank you all, I do my best to play your games and leave a comment as well.
It was very fun to play! I like the party on the spacebar
This was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Graphics and music are nice, one small complaint is that you seem to need to use the mouse to navigate the main menu despite it being a keyboard-focused game. Also, I'm not sure if it's a bug or what, but I noticed that sometimes if I press the space bar while playing, I get transitioned back to the main menu. Otherwise, pretty neat.
@sidnoea All your points are entirely valid ! I'll admit that I'm not hyper comfortable with Unity's UI system. The game going back to the main menu when pressing space is a known bug, and I know to what it's due ^^. By pressing space, you actually press the button you had in last focus that's off screen, messing up the game-state. I thought I had fixed that bug on V2 Bugfix, but apparently not ^^'.
Thank you for the feedback !
This game is very cohesive. Audio, art, and music all play together quite nicely. It gets pretty hectic quite quickly, but it was a blast even through getting completely dominated by all the aliens. Nice work!
awesome entry! i liked this game a lot. looked cool, song was fun, and the concept and play on words was clever!
Haha nice idea, feels fun to play and damn those plays on word ;)
Nice idea and good staff! @fluffy-kaeloky very happy to see your achievements in success! it's not worth it that I spend on the source code because I already know your abilities! Is there a way to detect if the keyboard is qwerty or azerty? do you have a version that works on mobile? good luck to you all and do not forget to share your news!
really impressed ! fun game, good graphisms and awesome EDM sound :)
@schniter Heyo, thanks for reviewing our game, I'll admit that this first jam was pretty fun ! Despite the time limit, I did spend quite a while making sure the code is clean and modular. You know me, heh, my OCD would trigger me so bad if I tried to write dirty code.
For detecting if the keyboard is QWERTY or AZERTY (Or other), yes, it would probably be possible, but not with the current system we implemented, notably due to the keys sprites.
And a mobile version would be kinda hard to play without a keyboard ^^'.
Nice game!
