I like the concept, great art and music. I wish there was a bit more warning before the tides roll in, I find myself panic-building walls when it does and then I close myself off and can't get back on land. Do the castle walls forever withstand the ocean or they have hit points before they break?

Overall, a fun game with lots of potential, great work.

Very fun, took me a little time to understand how building works, but once I got it I really enjoyed it. I also love the music, graphics, and scenario. Good job!

Great theme couple with great art and BGM. Although the controls are bit lacking

Cool concept, was good fun but I think you could signpost whats happening in the game a bit better. I got confused sometimes.

Artwork and animations look really good and music is calming but could benefit from some urgency. I also wish there was a way to tell when the tide would be rolling in. The middle mouse scroll is a nice feature but I wonder if it'd be easier to map it to buttons instead of having your controls riding on one hand instead.

Interesting mechanics, and quite different. I think the gameplay is a bit superficial. Maybe it's a game that needs evolution in the future. Good job!

Cute concept! And good execution from what I can tell - I've always been a bit slow with these kinds of games :sob:

@rosypenguin We didn't implement walls hit point because we though it would break the gameplay of building a castle protected from the sea (at the beginning it was planned, but we decided to cancel this feature and we also didn't have time). @hi-irie I also think we should have put an indicator when the tide is rising or not, but we were really short on time. The tools can also be selected with the 1, 2, 3 keys, the mouse scroll is optional. @vphyre The gameplay goal was decided very late (...monday) so we are aware that this would not be enough to make a good game. I like to consider this work as a concept more than a full game. Thank you all for playing, I'll try to checkout your games if they are available on linux.

A very cool and interesting game! It was kind of confusing, I couldn't figure out how to get points or when the wave would advance. Despite that, I still had fun, and I really enjoyed the graphics and music! It was very polished, and I think all of you did a great job!

A more orginal idea, well executed, with great music! I liked the art, but i think the sea tiles and animation were really bold compared to the static sand, which sort of annoyed me as there was flashing around the edge. hope i explained that OK, only a minor problem though, was fun to play once i understood how to play!

I do like the concept of the game, it is different from other games that I have played in the jam. There are several things in my opinion: - Adding a timer to show when the tides come (I dead 3 - 4 times because I did not know when the tides strike) - When tides strike, the game is quite lagging and it is hard to run out of the water. - The art is super cute, but the music make me feel kind of lonely => more panic when the tides come lol) Overall, with the cool concept as well as great art, music and potential improvements in the future, you have done a very good job! Congrats!

I enjoyed your game, it has really interesting concept. Only one thing - I still don't understand, how the building works. When I add some tower, it messes all my castle with unnecessary walls =D You can check my game, there is also crab the main character ;)

Nice take on the theme! The game is a bit laggy when the water changes, but that didn't really bother me that much. When you dig sand under your crabby feet it allows you to freely breath under water crab_bug.png. Procedural generation is not an easy thing to tackle in a short amount of time, nice job! The graphics & music are nice aswell and really help the mood.

Great idea, solid entry!

Hey, pretty cool, though it took me a while to get a grasp of controls, numbers shown on your "instruments" would definitely help to inform the player. Also the web version lagged a lot when the water level was rising. Graphics are pretty strong, I like the artstyle and the palette, music is well chosen as well. Thanks for the experience! :)

darkguardsman 2018-08-18 02:16

Really nice concept, graphics are very nice, but mechanics could use a little more polish. Movement was a bit hard to use with mouse alone. I found myself often between two tiles drowning rather than standing on the selected tile. Digging was also a little rough as it required to be almost on top of the tile. Other than those issues excellent game, going to continue playing it as its fun to build sand castles.

A game with a good concept and an interesting mechanic, but still too buggy. I didn't understand the gameplay until my third intent. I have a complaint: you're not building a castle but a rampart. It should be fine to have something that alerts you about the coming wave. I loved the music and a couple of animations: the ocypode's digging and the waves in each tile. With a couple of improvements and bug fixing, it could be a great experience.

(ノ・∀・)ノ -( BTW )

We also have an HTML5 entry if you want to play it and rate it.

Cool Concept! The sea seems to be very rapidly coming towards the castle and ruin it, but then again, I am just a crab.

idinakloppstock 2018-08-24 19:22

A fresh idea, unfortunately a bit laggy sometimes. Anyway a nice entry!

paulhocker 2018-08-26 03:59

i thought the map looked great and the concept was solid but the water just came too fast and i also had no idea how to build the castle - a tutorial would have been nice - thanks for making it
