LD42 — Running out of space

Quantum Customs by sidewalksleeper 2018-08-27T01:03:22Z

Good puzzle game. I liked the minimalistic visual style, and background music, both set a great mood. I think it is a bit unfair because you don't have time for planning where to place each piece (and one starts with a lot of them). I liked the main menu.

Its Time To Stop Running by tinykidtoo 2018-08-20T20:55:33Z

It was hard for me to see where I was shooting, maybe because I'm accustomed to other kinds of feedback on top-down shooting games. I found it pretty difficult to survive, and for some reason, playing with the graphics at Very low makes the PC move slower. UI can be polished, and background music is a need. Sound effects are fine.

I like the concept of the game and its mood. You should add background music for a later release. I'd like to see more levels and other kinds of ghosts. I see the potential for a puzzle game.

Nuclear Arms 6: Waste Wizard's Tricks by Logicon211 2018-08-27T01:47:39Z

I had fun playing it. The laser beam was my favorite super-power since it makes you feel powerful and untouchable. I haven't played previous "chapters" of the game, but the idea of using each theme from LD as part of the series is terrific.

I like the concept and the three difficulty levels. Would be great to have a pixel-art version of the game. Sound effects can be improved, and background music is a need.

You play with L (Ryuzaki), right?

I liked your approach to the theme. The concept is interesting, and I'd like to see more of this game. Very good pixel-art, character design, animations, and sound effects. The only thing that doesn't fit well, in my opinion, is the music.

Stardust by ohmmus 2018-08-20T04:44:18Z

An interesting core mechanic. What you did to show the controls is pretty smart, and I liked how the obstacles change their color if they are in the path of movement. Aesthetically took me back to my Windows 98 days. I liked the visual style and the music. I had problems playing it on Google Chrome, but Firefox saved the day.

Interesting concept, but is hard to have fun due to the controls. It's frustrating.

Castle Crabers by Greet 2018-08-20T05:16:05Z

A game with a good concept and an interesting mechanic, but still too buggy. I didn't understand the gameplay until my third intent. I have a complaint: you're not building a castle but a rampart. It should be fine to have something that alerts you about the coming wave. I loved the music and a couple of animations: the ocypode's digging and the waves in each tile. With a couple of improvements and bug fixing, it could be a great experience.

EVOLUTION by Noa Calice 2018-08-18T14:10:31Z

A simple and enjoyable mechanic. What I liked the most was the concept of the game, the message you convey with it. It is a good approach to the jam's theme. I didn't like the music and sound effects, but the art is fine (I like your style).

Fuel Jump by Zahab_AQ 2018-08-25T18:17:48Z

Good start for a first game. The concept and your interpretation of the theme are interesting. I like the graphics. Keep working, game jams are a great place for learning.

NOOR by PNghasemi 2018-08-20T20:19:15Z

I had a frustrating experience with the game. Collision detection is much accurate and not having how to recover hearts makes this game too hard. The core mechanic is interesting, and I'll try to finish it in a later version (too many LD42 games to play to stay just in one). What you've done visually and with the music and sound effects is impressive, all of them set a great atmosphere to the game. As a suggestion, apart from allowing the player to recover health easier, I don't see the necessity of having a double-click action required to shot the lights, and I agree with @norrimo about the [E] key. I'll play it for sure if you continue working on and improving your game.

Match In A Bottle by Tiberiusuciu 2018-08-20T21:22:15Z

I had an enjoyable experience playing this game. I like the puzzle-platformer mix. I loved the atmosphere set by the change of time in the background, but I still don't understand what the PC is and why is she in a bottle that travels in space-time. I liked what you've done at the aesthetic level: graphics, sound effects, and music, an impressive work taking into account the time you invested. I see great potential for this game as a local co-op.

Personal Space by ProdigalSon 2018-08-22T04:22:11Z

A fun game. The core mechanic remembers me the Windows 95 game Jezzball. Entertaining, good music and sound effects, good graphics. I like the use you guys gave to the theme. I had problems to stop playing, is addictive. Sometimes is hard to understand how the ground will fall, I lost a lot of times because of that. Maybe a little feedback could solve that.

Interesting adventure game with a good and moving story. I like the way you handled the theme of the jam to convey a message, which was very powerful indeed. I loved the mood of the game established by its music and color palette. A short and profound experience, very good job.

SpaceLab 42 by Wassim 2018-08-27T02:13:43Z

The concept of the game is interesting, but it could be better if the PC doesn't move so fast. You should play Event[0], the mission where you are out of the spaceship makes you feel anguished (which I didn't feel here). The credits scene looks a bit disconnected from the whole context of the game, despite it is astonishing. Adding a puzzle, or making the jump useful could improve the experience without much effort on changing what you've already done.

Acid Sink by Supernapie 2018-08-20T01:41:21Z

Nice concept and use of the theme. It was a short and easy game, and that's good. I loved the graphics (which made me think in Fez) and the music, but the jump mechanic felt a bit weird and clumsy. I think the map is not necessary, or at least I never used it as a guide.

Flood Of Pirates by Stefan Jovanovic 2018-08-22T04:44:10Z

The game is hard but enjoyable. I like the mechanic's switch. Defending and repairing is an attractive concept. I saw you added a lot of things to version 1.1, so most of my suggestions are meaningless. Well done.

I think this game fits what Mark Brown from GMTK classifies as an analog puzzle game. I liked the concept, the core mechanic, and how you took the theme of the game jam. Visually is not to my liking, neither the humor. Pretty good choice of background music. Awesome work.

Stuck! by chkkll 2018-08-20T02:57:49Z

A unique mechanic that makes you live the experience of trying to get out of a means of transport crammed with NPCs (everyday stuff). I liked the visual style and the music, but I can't avoid thinking it is a bit relaxing in contrast with a quite stressing situation. My biceps hurt after playing it, thanks!.

Over-encumbered by brundolf 2018-08-20T04:11:11Z

A good game with an unbalanced random generation system. It feels unfair and frustrating (mainly because of the red lizards). I liked the concept, the graphics and the music (which made me thought in Beneath a Steel Sky). Good use of the theme. As a suggestion, apart from improving the generation of items, you should use another font and color for the restart message.

Void Incoming by Purrfexionator 2018-08-22T05:44:01Z

I liked this game a lot. Couldn't stop playing it until I killed the final boss. Good use of the theme and negative space. Good level design. The animation of the playable character could be better. I liked the sound effects and the vibe set by the font and the black and white palette. The final boss was a pleasant surprise. For some reason, it remembers me my days playing on Windows 95. Great job!

World Collector by Joe Williamson 2019-10-09T23:01:26Z

Terrific game. The intro was pretty clever and I loved the live-level-creation mechanic. The physics felt a bit weird, specially when pushing the boxes. It has a Fez-like aesthetic but I didn't like the music.

We also made a game (not in the amazing 48 hours gap like you) so it would be great if you give it a try.

Nightbirds by Jiri Hysek 2019-10-20T09:44:33Z

The idea of playing as a bird is engaging but the game is poor in excecution. It would be more interesting if you would have only one nest to take care of: by looking for food and protecting it against threats.

There's a bug that make the bird got trapped beneath her birdies.

One of the best entries I've played so far.

The design of the level is awesome and the way the game starts (the player can't even move the character) is pretty clever. The aesthetics and cold vibe of the game allows the player to imagine the world where it occurs. It is hard to finish it but it worths it (absolutely). I can only thing of this as the prequel to another game.

Scrap Spaceship by Nisovin 2019-10-10T04:48:05Z

Interesting game. Building the ship was fine but a bit frustrating due to the speed the pieces move. I had a lot of fun creating one full of thrusters. The game turns more fun once you launch your ship since you have to change the way you play while attacking because that affect your movement.

Hold X to Focus by toasteater 2019-10-20T11:05:07Z

The aesthetics of the game are pretty good and those jumps between the oneiric world and the real world are quite interesting. I loved seeing the connection between the portals and the room (or life?) of the main character.

It would be nice if the things the player does in the reality affect the dream and consequently its world. The jump physics feel weird and are a bit frustrating, but I finished the game.

Is the focus mechanic related to waking up from a nightmare?

Collecting Parts by LegendaryHippo 2019-10-20T10:17:06Z

Nice small metroidvania. The concept is engaging, the level design is very good and instant restart is a plus.

The movement speed is a bit slow and it is a shame that you earn nothing after using your new abilities to reach the top of the starting fall. The camera placement could be improved because there are some blind spots in the level (unless that's part of the design of the game). There's a bug that makes it difficult to go back after getting the wall jump:
