LD42 — Running out of space

Metal Gear Noah by Dizzy Dalvin 2018-08-24T12:43:53Z

I really like the graphics and the audio, and as others have said, this could have been one of the top entries had you finished it in time. I really liked the finished version, though I couldn't really understand the bot mechanics properly.

Fuel Jump by Zahab_AQ 2018-08-16T19:15:07Z

Thanks you so much for the feedback. I was mostly concerned with learning gamedev during the jam, and I miscalculated how much I'd be able to fit in in the given time. Missed out on the sound, music, and level design because of that. I'll take everything into consideration and try to improve this as much as I can. Thanks!

Cybermind by GrizzledBoor 2018-08-19T15:49:53Z

I liked the audio and the dialogue, really good. Other than that, I would have liked to see more of a purpose for the augmentations but as you said, the game couldn't be completed in time. I also experienced a bug at the red button with the 4 sentinels around it that can be reached by jumping. I jumped down from the button and got stuck and I couldn't move anywhere. Other than that, it was a fun little game. Good job.

The legend of the looter and the incredible backpack that never runs out of spac by agar3s 2018-08-24T12:54:42Z

This is really enjoyable. One of the most fun games that I played this jam. I loved the graphics and the gameplay was smooth and fun. It is kind of hard to find the items in time but I take it more as a challenging mechanic than a con in the game. Overall a solid game.

Loneliness by Saering 2018-08-24T12:29:46Z

Okay, the knocking got me. Twice. So did the jumpscare, even though I was expecting one, but after the room opened. The audio and the mood was really well done. There were some gaps in the walls in the rooms, and the sound of the start walking if you pressed W multiple times took me out of the immersion a little, but overall I really liked it. Great job.

S.P.A.C.E., inc. by Team-on 2018-08-24T13:05:42Z

It's a nice little game. I made my first game this jam as well, so I can totally relate. The jump animation wasn't very distinctive, but overall it's a small, fun game. Good job!

Shark Barrage by borjan1peovski 2018-08-17T12:30:13Z

Really nice game for a first jam. As some people have said, the Kalashnikov was a little grindy to get, but other than that, I really liked it.

BugSurvive by TLCoC 2018-08-21T13:32:38Z

Great game. I like the movement mechanics, gets difficult the smaller the platform gets. As others have said, sound would really make the game but I had the same problem and could not add sound due to time. I would love to see this polished some more, it's a cool little game that might do well as a mobile game for passing time.

Lunar Grid by ranseur 2021-10-06T16:17:50Z

This was a fun game, good job! ###

**Loved the arcade gameplay.** It could get really tense while playing, and I really liked the rush it gave me. I loved that all the mechanics were very consistent in the sense that everything pushed you to move. Nothing felt out of place thematically. Speaking of theme, I think it fit into the theme pretty well.

As for the art, **I was really into the graphical style!** Everything is so aesthetically pleasing. It invokes the older eras of these types of games, while also fitting within modern sensibilities.

For things that I think could be improved, I think that **it could be clearer when the red tiles could be moved over, and when they could not**. I felt that the sometimes I could pass over them, and sometimes when I thought I could, I failed. I think that state change could be a bit clearer.

All in all, **I really liked it!** Good job.

Captain Peggles by Sheepolution 2021-10-06T15:05:30Z

This is one of my favorite games I've played yet. ###

A very unique and creative take on the theme! I really enjoyed my time playing this, and kudos for creating this in such a short time.

#### Some things I liked #### - The mood, the polish, and the humor were all really well done. - I also appreciated that there were cutscenes and a story that immediately pulled me in, and the characters were also very lively and likeable! - I liked the game loop, and I felt that it provided just the right amount of challenge to keep it interesting. - I also felt that the player was introduced to the mechanics in a thoughtful way. I never felt confused as to what to do. - The art and graphical style was also very charming! Everything felt cohesive, and the art style definitely added a lot to the game. - The sounds were nice, and helped pull everything together.

#### Some things that I felt could be done better: #### - I felt that there should have been some sort of progress indicator that showed me how much time was left. Being told it's 5 minutes and the system status actually being visible throughout make for very different user experiences. - I also would have like a little more challenge, so maybe adding difficulty toggles would be something for a future build.

As you can see, I do not have a lot of criticism, so I say **good job!** Thank you for helping me spend some time in a fun way.

little rats' big top by cakeknuckles 2021-10-20T05:42:15Z

Haha, **such a cute game**. It seems deceptively simple, but takes a surprising amount of coordination to complete successfully.

For pros, I would say that **the game felt balanced** *(ha, geddit?)*. None of the tasks seemed unfairly hard to pull off, and being able to juggle the tasks felt really satisfying. I also like that **the status of the system was visible.** Each rat made a sound as well as cried when they became too unstable. As for cons, I would say that there weren't many. The game was short and simple, with a well defined scope, and it did the things it did well. Maybe **the 5 second countdown could be made a little shorter.** Also, **the play again button could take us back to the game without the countdown**, whereas currently it just takes us to the main menu. Small grievances like these don't take away from the game however.

All in all, **really good job**, and good luck with whatever you do next!

Midnight Maintenance by Tattomoosa 2021-10-05T08:11:44Z

Really liked this one! The whole mood was reminiscent of the old The House of the Dead games. I loved the humor as well, with the audio and the signboards. I also like the quality of life feature that stops zombies from moving if the player is reading a sign. There were some quirks in the movement and the shooting, but the overall atmosphere created more than made up for it. Especially how the power plant was ominously visible in red throughout. Great job!

Block'd by JPiolho 2021-10-05T18:18:24Z

Great job, this was a very polished game! I especially loved the graphics. The art style is very modern and cohesive, and the colors work well with each other. The effects are appealing, and the sound really enhances the mood, although volume sliders would have been helpful.

Onto the gameplay. First of all, I played this much for much longer than I anticipated. This was a fun twist to the Tetris game, and I was pining for the top 10 throughout. Alas, I only got to the 19th position. But it really speaks to your implementation of the genre that I played for so long.

Some things got somewhat annoying though. Firstly, the "Mind of their own" glitch was rough to play against. I think it was a handicap that took away from the fun of the game rather than one that added to it. RNG without any indicators or counters can be tough to balance, and I think this one missed the mark.

Other than that, all the other glitches were fun. I'm sure these could be expanded upon even more, leaving you with the basis of a fun and unique entry into the genre. Great job, and I hope you do well in the jam!

Yeetr by timon 2021-10-05T09:08:45Z

This was amazing! Playing this actually made me smile! Very clever take on the theme, and just as clever implementation as well. There was some clunkiness in the movement, and there were some optimization issues, but that doesn't take away from the experience itself. I liked anticipating what way the level would react to a button. I especially like the "unfinished" area with (no spoilers). Really enjoyable experience. Good job, and I would love to see this idea be expanded upon and made into a polished game!

Tidy Tides by KBanana 2021-10-20T06:46:40Z

**Great job!** This was a short, fun experience. Sufficiently challenging, and not so long as to overstay its welcome.

**I especially like the music.** The music was chaotic and fun, and fit the theme of the game perfectly. **I also liked the chaos of the game.** There was so much going on, but there were enough clues to give context to the player about what was going on. Apart from that, **the graphics looked nice** as well.

For some things I think that could be improved: I think **there could be some better indication of which things go where.** I know there were posters on the wall, and some color coding as well, but I think that maybe not having multiple colors on the same desk, as well as some feedback when a player puts things back in the correct place would lead to a better overall user experience. Apart from that, I think **the hitboxes for picking up some items could be a bit bigger.** Some items such as the pens were a little janky to pick up.

Other that that, I would say **this was a fun experience!**. The overall mood of the game was very well done, and the gameplay complimented that mood well. Thank you for including volume sliders as well. Congratulations on completing a game in such a short time, and good luck with whatever comes next!

Another Brick on a Brick by Richnou 2021-10-20T06:10:23Z

Good job, and **congratulations on completing something in one day!** I like the concept, especially the whole Pink Floyd theme. I played Another Brick in the Wall behind this, and it fits really well! Some improvements I think you could make is maybe increasing the speed as the game goes on? Also, I liked how it shows you the area where the block will fall, although maybe you could make it so that the indicator changes width according to the block? I really liked the physics, and this was a good way to pass the time before work. **Good job**, and good luck for whatever comes next!

It Crumbles by VivianMochi 2021-10-07T14:05:19Z

I'll start off by saying that this game has a lot of potential. The mechanics are fun once you understand them, and it can get pretty hectic. "Dying" at upper levels is fair since it just lands you at the previous level

However, in it's current state, I think it's a little bit too hard. Also, it needs a tutorial. I died so many times not realizing you could move with WASD, and that the main traversal method was using the bombs. The site description didn't mention WASD as well, so only after getting frustrated by the difficulty, did I realize I could move. After that it got fun, but I think more tuning could be done to make the enemy bullets and spawning more fair.

Other than that, I think the graphical style is aesthetically very nice, and the audio fits the style of the game very well. I enjoyed the game once I got the hang of it, and I find the mechanics very promising. I also love the amount of polish that went into this, the game feels juicy. With a little fine tuning, I think this game could be made into something fun and addictive!

Geiger Cubes by Samuel Hollywood-Summers 2021-10-06T15:18:07Z

This was such a relaxing experience! While I know little about MetaSounds, I did really like the sound design of the game. The music was relaxing, and I liked how different materials had different sounds (especially the metal cubes, they sounded very authentic). I liked the sandbox of the whole thing. I understand that there was little game design since that was not your goal, so I would love to see what you come up with once you've gone into the depths of this new tool (?) !

Boom Box by Vanea 2021-10-05T08:49:37Z

Great job! I really like the graphics, and the dynamite throwing mechanic was particularly satisfying! The lose conditions were a bit confusing, and I was unable to understand why I lost. Only after dying multiple times I realized that touching any side other than the top resulted in the player character dying. Also, I was not able to understand the end goal of the game, although I might have missed it or maybe time constraints got in the way. All in all, I can see the blueprint of a fun arcade-y game mechanic here, you just have to mine (or TNT) it for gold (wink wink).

Trauma by AdamCYounis 2021-10-05T17:37:37Z

Lovely game! I was engaged throughout. This seems like the beginning of a great game. And that is my one gripe with this in it's current state, it feels like just a prologue. No doubt due to the short nature of the jam. This fact doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the game I played however. I loved the story, and how it conveyed so much in spite of, or maybe due to it's short length. I would have like an easier, quicker way to switch cards with fewer clicks, I think that would have improved the user experience for me. Other than that, great game, with great graphics and great atmosphere. Kudos!

Tables & Tremors by SlimmerBurger 2021-10-05T09:39:09Z

This was really fun! Initially, I couldn't get a hang of it, but once I did, it clicked. Some levels were pretty frustrating, but in a good way. My reaction times aren't what they used to be, so maybe in a more polished build you could give difficulty options. I really liked the graphics. They felt very cohesive. The audio got a bit repetitive in my opinion. It doesn't take away from the game, but I feel it doesn't add to it either. All in all, a really fun twitch/movement game. Exploring these mechanics and adding to them would be really interesting. Great job!

AFTER SUN by rufson 2021-10-05T19:37:30Z

Really good! My brother was watching me play this, and he couldn't believe this was done in 3 days. That's a testament to how good the overall vibe is.

The graphics and game feel are especially well done. The audio was good as well, however, I felt it got too repetitive eventually. It was also too loud, so it was a bit jarring for me.

I did encounter some bugs when trying to climb ladders, where it would just bonk me back. I also think that the process of acquiring passengers was a little too repetitive and cumbersome considering the short limit on how many you can "hold" at once. Since there was no time limit that I'm aware of, it just felt a little too slow to me.

Ignoring that, this was very well done. The game feel, especially the controlling of the ship was very juicy. The art of the planet itself, and the merging of 2D and 3D for that (it sure felt like it), was done well.

All in all, I really enjoyed this one, although the some things such as slow speed and tedious tasks kept me from giving this a higher score than I did. Well done!

TECHNUCLEAR by TheGreenWorm 2021-10-08T12:42:09Z

Amazing! ###

It's very impressive that this was completed within this jam. This was so complete and polished that this could be released as is. So glad to hear that you're working on a full release. Look forward to playing it when it comes out.

**The music was really good!** It seemed very complete for the amount of levels that it is. More variety would have been needed had their been more levels, but you struck just the right balance.

**The game was extremely polished!** I stopped playing it as a jam game to rate, but rather as a fun game to spend my time. I think that should demonstrate how well made it is. The gameplay was juicy, and once you got into the flow, time flew by.

**The boss could have had more predictable colliders.** Due to their shape, it was hard to gauge how you would collide with the boss, making for a more "try again" approach rather than a strategic one. I think that could be improve a little, but that is one of the very few gripes I have with this game.

In conclusion, **good job!**. Well done on making such a complete, polished game in so little time.

Core Weapon by ThatANoNoWord 2021-10-05T19:18:02Z

Good job! I really liked they idea. Initially I was a bit confused as to where the rest of the sliders & buttons were, since they weren't visible. Maybe a good UX improvement could be having an indication that they are locked for now, but keeping them visible so the player isn't as confused. I liked having to keep balance between everything. I would have like more game juice, and maybe a more visible interaction when shooting. Visibility of the system status would also be helpful. The music was also nice, and the sound effects as well. To conclude, good execution of a good concept. Well done!

Psycho-unstable Journey by KenForest 2021-10-06T19:21:15Z

I love the atmosphere you've created! ###

**The mood and atmosphere of this game are top notch!** I think this is one of the most engrossing games I've played this jam. I have to give you so many points for the graphics and the atmosphere. Really creepy and trippy.

However, I felt that the game was **a bit too slow**. Even controlling the car felt a bit awkward. I think tuning the movement would go a long way into making this feel snappier.

I also felt like **the writing detracted from the atmosphere**. I understand English isn't everyone's first language, so I am not talking about grammar or sentence structure here. Rather, I am talking about the dialogue felt forced and out of place for the context it was in. The responses didn't feel genuine. I think even reducing dialogue would have sold the mood a bit better.

Other than that, I would see **I really liked spending time on this game**. It was a lot longer than I thought it would be, and the fact that this was done in 3 days is mighty impressive. Congratulations on making such a well put together game in such a short time. **Well done!**

Unstable Genius by Doc Kaos 2021-10-06T16:31:37Z

This was amazing! ###

I had a really really fun time playing this. Although it had not addictive gameplay loop, and I drag and drop stuff everyday, doing it here was actually fun!

**This game had so much character!** I mean it. Other games I've played for the jam have done some things amazingly well, but none of those had so much character that I'll remember them in time for LD50. The intro cutscenes, the humor, everything. Well done!

AllRound by Rayredd 2021-10-06T17:21:16Z

I liked this! The game was short and fun. Even the circle graphics has a certain charm to them. I found the movement a bit hard to control, and I would have liked a smaller hitbox on the black holes. However, the sheep were fun! As someone who's had some interaction with sheep, you really got there stubborn nature correct. I see the mechanics are already in place for a short, really fun game. Just some finetuning would push it to the next level. Good job!

Radio Inactive by Edoardo Talamini 2021-10-05T19:01:37Z

Good job! I enjoyed it. I wasn't able to beat it, and maybe this is just me but I felt that bars popped up quicker than instructions given. I also would have liked the movement to be a little less clunky. Moving on, I felt that the art was really good, and the game aesthetically pleasing! The alarm sound was a bit annoying, but I think all alarm sounds are (haha). Maybe some variation might have made it a bit more pleasing. All in all, fun concept that, with a little tuning, would be a great short arcade game!

Cairn by Amaroq 2021-10-05T18:38:14Z

This seems like the beginning of a cool short experience! I especially loved the atmosphere created, and the storytelling when collecting the rocks from the villagers. I was engaged, and I wanted to learn more about the universe you created. The art for the rock collecting sequence was also good, although it became very flat when balancing the stones. Maybe more details could be put into the rocks, and maybe a bit of the corresponding villager's personality and story could be told through the rock design. Balancing the rocks has a great mechanic idea in place, although the physics itself was a bit finnicky. Fine tuning it would result in something that I could see myself putting much time into since it can be very relaxing. To finish, it was a cool experiences, and the ingredients are there to further expand this into something great. Good job!

Hack N' Shoot by Jake Summer 2021-10-05T08:34:07Z

Well done! Loved the digital CRT-ish look of the game, really fit in well to the whole hacking theme. The hacks were also fun to play around with! The speed hack was a bit clunky, but other than that, the sandbox of mixing and matching hacks made for a fun time. Great job!

The Lonely Ghost by firetaku 2021-10-05T08:26:58Z

Good job! For a first game for many of your team members, this was really good. A lot better than my first game for sure. I loved the music. It really (literally) set the tone for the game. There were some minor quirks and bugs in the movement, and I feel that some faster moving platforms made it hard to keep up. Other than that, I really liked the art as well, the whole game looks great. Great job, and good luck for the coming games!

Banana Martyr by Kassout 2021-10-05T07:51:07Z

This was pretty good! I really liked the art, but what to stood out to me was the music. It was really good and helped set the mood. I would have liked more of an indicator when a monkey was about to punch, so our actions were more reactionary rather than guess based, but other than that, good fun!

Hardwork Simulator by cabjhegas 2021-10-06T16:48:31Z

Great job! This was **a very novel approach to the theme**, and very innovative gameplay. I enjoyed it. I have to appreciate the little game juice touches. Dropping a letter felt very satisfying. Also, the writing was well done! Up to a certain point, I was too slow because I kept reading what was being written, and the fact that I was not jumping at the chance to mash the keyboard shows how engrossing such a thing can be.

However, **I did feel it got a little slow at times.** Maybe I wasn't mashing hard enough, but when there are one or two stickmen, it feels like they aren't doing much. I also would have like some sort of progress indicator as to when we would reach the end. I guess it just felt too real, typing and typing with no end in sight. I guess it really is a hard work simulator.

Suffice to say, I don't think these little things took away from the game too much. It was still an enjoyable experience, and I congratulate you on a job **well done!**

Watch my nucleus by Aquilart 2021-10-05T18:51:17Z

Haha unstable isotopes was also one of my first ideas when I heard of the theme, although my idea was going in a different direction. This was a great execution of the concept! I loved the theme, and I have to give you huge props on the audio. Very few game jam games have voice acting, and this one was even well acted! The game also had juice, and the particle decaying effects were very satisfying, as were the effects of putting them back together. I chose the hard difficulty, and boy, was that a mistake. So much chaos! I have very little critiques, although I would have liked to be able to skip the tutorial cutscenes when playing the game again. Well done!

Tick Away by jackiex9527 2021-10-07T14:35:05Z

Great job! ###

**I loved the art and the mood.** The art style was simple, but beautiful, and it really fit well with the theme of the game. Combined with the music, **this was a really emotion evoking entry** into the jam.

One critique I could give is that **I would have like a clearer explanation of the mechanics**. I died a few times before realizing how the controls worked and how to move. Stabilizing the bomb could also be fine tuned a little. Other than that, I don't really have many things I didn't like.

Once I got into the flow of things, I really enjoyed the entry. There are very few games I've played till now that were narrative in nature, but **I think you executed it well!** It wasn't overly long, and the story was short and conclusion satisfying. All in all, **well done on this entry.**
