This is great! Very well polished, nice pixel art graphics and juicy gameplay with an interesting mechanic. I'd love to see this idea expanded on and the difficulty balanced a bit more (It's pretty difficult after the ground floor). Reminds me a lot of the Tower of Hera in Link to the Past, which has a floor mechanic like this. Great work!

@reccy Thank you so much! I had SO many ideas that I wanted to include but I just didn't have enough time (purchasing upgrades with tokens, abilities, a GOLF minigame, etc.). I apologize about the difficulty, I spent so much time adding stuff I didn't take the time to balance it! Maybe I'll do a post jam version at some point! Thanks again!

Excellent!

I LOVE how you took out health as a consideration and explored a different avenue of negative reinforcement for getting hit by enemies!

I mentioned to someone before, I am no good at this type of game, but I had a blast anyway! Thank you!

The idea of falling through the floor is cool, but I usually died by getting knocked off the stage.

I couldn't get to floor one, in fact, I died as soon as I opended the game, this game could really needs a tutorial.

Awesome game! I agree with other posters though that the difficulty is too high right now. Without the tokens doing anything, theres no reason to shoot anyone, since your gun is so slow and enemies regenerate anyway. I think a better weapon would be good to at least let you defend yourself - if more than one enemy is on you your almost definitely gonna take a hit. Still, Love the toejam-and-earl way that verticality counts! Very cool.

I'll start off by saying that this game has a lot of potential. The mechanics are fun once you understand them, and it can get pretty hectic. "Dying" at upper levels is fair since it just lands you at the previous level

However, in it's current state, I think it's a little bit too hard. Also, it needs a tutorial. I died so many times not realizing you could move with WASD, and that the main traversal method was using the bombs. The site description didn't mention WASD as well, so only after getting frustrated by the difficulty, did I realize I could move. After that it got fun, but I think more tuning could be done to make the enemy bullets and spawning more fair.

Other than that, I think the graphical style is aesthetically very nice, and the audio fits the style of the game very well. I enjoyed the game once I got the hang of it, and I find the mechanics very promising. I also love the amount of polish that went into this, the game feels juicy. With a little fine tuning, I think this game could be made into something fun and addictive!

Really fun game, the concept of having explosions instead of lives is really fun and innovative,

The sound design is also really well done,

One thing that i dislicked is that the game is really annoying to play on a non qwerty keyboard because you didn't include the arrow keys as an alternative to wasd.

Other than that one nitpick, great game.

@ghost-wave Thank you so much!! Also thank you for letting me know about the input on non-qwerties! I've gone ahead and updated the game with arrow keys as an additional input method. Hopefully that with the shift key to jump should feel comfortable. Please let me know if you have any more feedback!

@thegreenworm Thanks so much! It's definitely difficult haha, but I can confirm that it *is* beatable! In the future I'd love to update it so that you can buy upgrades with tokens to really flesh out the experience, but I'm pretty happy with its current state! Thanks for playing!

An awesome idea. Don't think I have ever really seen this done before and it is quite fun to boot. Unfortunately due to randomisation it can be very frustrating as well. Having minimal control over the player when they're on grey tiles basically means that you're most likely going to die since you don't know what's present along your path of motion. Still, launching myself with a bomb was always fun. The visuals and audio were cool as well. There are a nice variety of enemy types which really make you move a lot. Really nice entry.

Pretty neat and polished game. I liked the art style and also the music progressing with your floor level. Good job :)

One minor thing: Could have used a menu or so instead of just dropping you into the action.

Very good game, I love the platforming. Wish I had more control in the air though as that gets HARD. Didn't know how to trigger the next floor for a while, haha.

Great game, very fun. I felt the upper levels are a little unfair, because they had too large gaps and it is not always possible to find a way to the lift. I liked the music progression and the art style. Keep up the good work!

Great mechanics, but I don't think they can be utitilized to their fullest in such a small-scale game. I especially liked how dying worked in conjuction with level destruction.

The little details you placed all throughout this game are fantastic, and really make it look so crisp and smooth! Overall, excellent game with fun and chaotic mechanics

@kumber I agree that the upper floors are REALLY difficult, but a well placed bomb-jump can usually get you where you need to go! (Sometimes it IS impossible tho x_x)

@c0nt I TOTALLY agree! I think this would get WAY more fun with actual investment in a run! Getting items that upgrade stats and having more control over the tower's structure would make it so fun!

finally beat it after a while! I got to level 5 and then did the thing where I just kept falling till death after finally finding the exit haha. So I had to replay it. Could see how you could add a lot of things like weapons or reducing knock back to make it easier. I had also see how you could make something really hard, like a floor is all indestructible blocks but really spread out so you have to bomb jump to all of them, or a floor where the blocks start to fall after you step on it (maybe it resets if you fall). Nice job!

The music is relaxing, and the shooting sound effect is fun to hear.

The art is nice, in particular the slime's animation is very cute.

The game controls smoothly, and bomb jumping is fun to do.

A crumbling tower matches the theme well.
