LD49 — Unstable

little rats' big top by cakeknuckles 2021-10-10T10:31:16Z

The art is cute, and the music gives me spooky circus vibes.

I especially appreciate that the rats make sounds to alert you that they need clicked.

The pause menu is a nice touch .

Who's that amphibian fellow?

Unstable Tower by erikkire 2021-10-16T08:52:47Z

The game fits the theme well, and I like the art. It gives me benevolent rope god vibes.

The only problem I have is clicking and dragging rocks is a bit hard to do.

SIRTET by Aggrathon 2021-10-08T22:22:21Z

The interactive main menu is a nice touch.

The Legend of Error by rogual 2021-10-07T00:46:55Z

I like the music and art, particularly the animation for the slime enemy. The AI/movement for the snakes is pretty interesting too.

Because of the respawning enemies I think that hearts should drop more often.

Occasionally enemies go off the top of the screen which makes it hard to avoid their attacks.

Finally, I found the attack sound effect to be too loud at first.

Demolition Mouse by lonewookie 2021-10-07T00:57:36Z

I like the colours used (particularly the bricks), and the ice level is real cool.

I do think that the jump needs more weight to it. I found myself missing jumps because of the floatiness it has.

You won't believe your result from this personality test! by allthebees 2021-10-07T00:25:05Z

The satire in this game is pretty funny, and making a game out of a survey is unique.

The results mimic the real thing accurately.

YuraYura! - Tidying up the tilting tower! by Cornflowerblue 2021-10-10T10:53:06Z

I liked the music, and the art is very kawaii.

The controls are responsive.

The unstable platform matches the theme perfectly.

Experiment #56 by ildfuglen 2021-10-16T03:05:28Z

The grapple mechanic is super fun to use!

Obviously music and sound effects would make the game better, so more useful feedback would be that I found the in-game instructions hard to understand.

*Thank you for the Linux build by the way.*

SEXY BOOBY 95 by silkworm_sweatshop 2021-10-10T07:12:16Z

Really liked the music and humor.

SurFree > SkiFree.

Viole(n)t Cooking by Shess 2021-10-10T05:08:14Z

I like the art and music. The gameplay fits the theme.

A more obvious game over screen would be nice, and having to close the cookbook to see the ending is a bit confusing.

Showing icons when you hover over containers would make it easier to understand what each one is for.

Unstabled Horse Game by 2kah 2021-10-10T09:51:27Z

The art is very charming, and the sound effects are funny.

It took me some time too figuring out I needed to click and drag to control the tail.

The Salatroitsk Incident by DrunkardWolf 2021-10-13T01:14:36Z

A very atmospheric game, and I enjoyed the use of the PSX aesthetic. I would have liked to see more.

I did have trouble reading the font, but it could have been a resolution or aspect ratio problem.

Under the Weather by SleepyStudios 2021-10-19T07:30:25Z

The music is relaxing, and the character controls really well.

I had trouble jumping on some of the platforms. For example: one of the platforms required me to jump on the left side only even though the visuals made it look like I should have been able to jump on the right side as well.

Jenry Javelina by PBG 2021-10-07T00:37:53Z

Jenry's design is cute, and the game fits the theme well.

I think that the music should be louder. It is a bit too quiet relative to the jump sound.

An on-screen indictator pointing to the objective would be nice.

I feel that the jump needs to be higher and go further. I kept missing jumps because it felt like I would go farther.

The camera tends to take bad angles or positions. Either too low which makes gauging jumps hard or behind a platform blocking the player's view.

Overall, I think this could turn out to be a fun platformer.

LD49: Homeward by LMB 2021-10-08T09:42:27Z

Playing this was a fun experience, and I liked the humor.

A full screen option for the web-player would be nice.

Slime-a-pult by Swen 2021-10-10T06:22:45Z

Funny story, and the slime is cute.

An issue I encountered was while the corners of blocks are rounded their hitboxes seem not to be. Hitting these invisible corners would prevent me from jumping.

Yarnball by niterich 2021-10-10T10:06:06Z

The music is very relaxing, and I have never seen game mechanics like this before.

Landslide by Reef 2021-10-10T08:14:34Z

landslide_score_crop.png

I like the music, and the goat is cute. The game's controls are smooth, and they feel right.

I found avoiding the falling rocks to be somewhat difficult.

It Crumbles by VivianMochi 2021-10-16T08:34:49Z

The music is relaxing, and the shooting sound effect is fun to hear.

The art is nice, in particular the slime's animation is very cute.

The game controls smoothly, and bomb jumping is fun to do.

A crumbling tower matches the theme well.

Unstable Speed by Maksim Chugunov 2021-10-10T07:28:24Z

This game feels very eerie, and I like how the tension builds as your velocity increases.

It was very satisfying to win.

Should I Buy It ? by henriquecanella 2021-10-10T11:38:13Z

I like the art, and having the price of items change is an interesting idea.

I found it hard to track if a price changed.

It would be nice if hovering over an item told you what it is.

c0rrup73d by ArtoniX 2021-10-10T08:32:40Z

Love the transitions. The art and music is good.

I would have liked to see more variety with the weapons.

The enemies like to crowd around your feet where you cannot shoot them; which is somewhat annoying.

Polygonal Animal Stacking by Flying Dog Fish 2021-10-19T08:21:48Z

The art is cute, and the gameplay is easygoing.

I liked the music, but it felt a little too "inspirational" for the game's tone.

GONZO ALCHEMY! by kristinamay 2021-10-21T04:14:24Z

The art has a lot of style to it, and the music fits well in the background.

I mainly struggled with the controls because the UI hints were often either covered or had poor contrast.

I never managed to sell a potion in my thirty minute playthrough. I did come close, but I hadn't put the potion up for sale. This happened because the sprites cover each other on the shelf which made me think you could only have one potion for sale at a time.

A Long Way Home by Alexascher 2021-10-10T05:31:00Z

I liked the music, and the art is good. An unstable ship fits the theme well.

I really enjoyed being able to upgrade the ship, and I love how overpowered the sextant is.

The only problem I had was figuring out that I had to click to pick an upgrade.

The Walls Are Tumbling Down! by zubspace 2021-10-10T05:49:01Z

I like the design of the ghosts, and Pac-Man with guns is an interesting idea.

It was hard to tell what weapon I was using~~, and if I hadn't read it was a roguelite I would have thought it started me over from the beginning when I died~~ [I was mistaken: you do start from scratch].

Fight Or Flight by Monado 2021-10-14T00:32:56Z

The story is interesting, and I like the art.

I did not like falling back to the bottom of the level, but I did enjoy the Rube Goldberg-esque ice.

B.A. in Animal Psychology by Frogravity 2021-10-16T01:43:22Z

This was fun to play. The art is cute, and the music fits the tone of the game.

The voice acting really enhances the humor.

Overall I have no complaints. It's a short, fun, and kind of weird experience.

*Thank you for the Linux build by the way.*

Vomit Up the World by ItsHornUnicorn 2021-10-19T07:57:28Z

This game is super neat.

The music does a great job of setting the atmosphere, and the whole thing is really relaxing to play.

I love the use of environmental text. Like the size hints on the boxes.

20 Seconds to Survive by PROJECTaroid 2021-10-10T07:37:33Z

Love the Naruto run.

The game controls are smooth, and I like the animation for stopping.

Nightstruck by Flomino 2021-10-16T08:15:19Z

This is really good.

The use of 2D sprites in a 3D environment is something I haven't seen before, and it looks fantastic.

The story was a perfect fit for a short game. I always enjoy endings that take me a couple of minutes to realize the true implications of what they are saying.

The music is a real standout. I had the music playing while I was talking to someone. Normally I would have muted it, but it sits in the background so well that I left it playing. At the same time it comes to the foreground to accentuate the key story moments quite nicely.

Overall this game is a hidden gem that I am happy to have played.

Totally Stable Alchemy by KutaryouShinkoku 2021-10-14T00:05:58Z

I like the music. Trying out different ingredient combinations is fun.

I could not figure out how to throw potions, but looking at the screenshots and description that's more my fault than the games.

Compo game "Flappy Crow"!! by HIKO_game 2021-10-07T02:13:15Z

Thank you for making this, it is really fun.

The art gives this cyber dystopian feel that fits the brutal gameplay well.

Trying to find the best way to exploit the parry to get to a checkpoint is a delight, and I could see people doing speedruns of this game because of it.

Playing this had me fidgeting in my sit the same way [Clustertruck](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClusterTruck) did. It is stressful, but in a fun way.

I think having easier levels in the beginning to teach players the game mechanics would be a good idea, and needing to touch hearts to get the checkpoints is too punishing *in my opinion*.

Are you meant to auto-parry by holding the parry button? ____

spawn_bug.gif

If you activate the checkpoint from above you will be too close to the ceiling when you respawn. In a similar vein: depending on the height you die at you will spawn at a slightly different location.

Lastly, it is possible to parry through the ceiling to get out of bounds.

Unstable Cube by Seskon 2021-10-16T02:10:46Z

I like the art. The top-down perspective gives the game an interesting aesthetic.

The game controls well, and the minimal UI is intuitive.

I do think some music would make the game more atmospheric.

*Thank you for the Linux build by the way.*

Guests by Daddysucc5000 2021-10-14T00:51:46Z

The art matched the atmosphere well, and I liked the humor.

I did get lost in the basement, but it was worth the payoff of finding out that the repairman had been watching me wander around while staring at the ceiling for three minutes.

I missed some dialog because of a bug: if you interact with the salesman next to the bed you can activate the bed at the same time.

Pupu Jellyfish by nekowei 2021-10-10T09:39:32Z

The game was very calming to play, and I liked the art.

Alchemy Academy by Smooches 2021-10-14T00:16:34Z

This game is super charming!

I liked the art, and the gameplay was smooth. The voice actor did a great job.

*Thank you for the Linux build by the way*.

Psycho-unstable Journey by KenForest 2021-10-13T01:21:46Z

I liked the atmosphere and graphics, but the text would cut off before finishing; which, made it hard to understand what was happening.

If it helps: I used the fixed version on a fully up-to-date Windows 10 machine.

Cairn by Amaroq 2021-10-13T23:45:19Z

I liked the music and atmosphere.

Using the mouse and arrow keys is a little awkward. I would have liked to use either WASD for movement or the mouse to interact.

Oh, Hello? by itsBoats 2021-10-10T11:19:05Z

I like the music and the art is nice. The game is pretty funny.

A tutorial explaining that you can double jump would be nice, but then again I spent several minutes trying to move myself using a fan having not remembered I could move with WASD.

PING 99 by MFauzan 2021-10-16T05:21:39Z

Some of the music in this game gave me RimWorld vibes for some reason. I don't know why, but it's not a bad thing.

The art in this game is really clean. I like the Gameman's design in particular.

I did have trouble finding a stable connection fast enough. Which was a bit frustrating.

Unstable Adventure by Violetta 2021-10-10T06:58:00Z

Sentient weapons are an interesting idea, and I like the enemy designs.

I did have trouble figuring out what I was meant to do.

Unstable Isotope by Nafe 2021-10-07T07:55:43Z

Dig the chill music, and I like the character's walk cycle. The level select is a nice touch.

I found the acid room kind of frustrating. One of the reasons is the player's hitbox being slightly above the feet (I'm guessing); which is good because it lets them walk down to the edge of acid pools, but means walking upwards you die if your knees cross the acid.

False Angel by Jonah_SRG 2021-10-21T20:05:57Z

This game is very polished.

I love the way colour is used here, and the variety of music is impressive.

I enjoyed the minigames. Particularly because each one had its own best strategy.

My favorite was Suspension, so I'm going to talk more specifically about it below:

I really liked the controls. They definitely captured the feeling of pedaling a bike.

It took me many retries to finish due to the difficulty. Which is good and bad: losing because I messed up the controls felt correct, and made it more fun as I got better at the controls, but losing because I didn't have time to react was frustrating.

The other issue was the randomness: sometimes I would be put in an impossible situation where not dying would be hard even with more flexible controls.

Overall I really liked the Suspension minigame. It was difficult in both a good and bad way.

Egg Racer by Exmxpx 2021-10-19T06:58:54Z

Bopping music and vibrant art. I found the game challenging in a fun way.

I agree that being able to recover from turning would be nice.

Overall an eggtastic entry.

Weather Control Device by Krjemelik 2021-10-16T09:07:03Z

Changing weather is an interesting take on the theme, and I like the art.

I found the game to be too difficult due to the lack of a health bar and sound effects. Specifically not having a sound effect for the enemies shooting made it hard to dodge their attacks.

Snatched by cerieyele 2021-10-10T06:37:10Z

I like the music, and the death screech is a nice touch. I heard it many times.

Stability Failing by professir 2021-10-10T07:51:43Z

Level 15, and 116 platforms.

A stressful game that fits the theme well.

Cytoplasm Madness by dagon 2021-10-10T08:45:07Z

I like the art style and music.

It would be nice to have more information about what the different gauges represent.

Kattonauten by Elastic 2021-10-10T09:15:41Z

Love the black-and-white art, but I might be a bit biased.

The game was too difficult for me, but I can totally see why other people like it.

kattonauten_glitch.gif

*«Stop the screeching!» — Catdet down.*

Babel by cauldron 2021-10-08T09:23:06Z

Tetris with physics is a neat idea, and it fits the theme perfectly.

The controls are smooth and responsive. The art gives a comedic flair to the Tower of Babel.

Infiniraft by LDJQ 2021-10-06T08:50:39Z

@pbg I actually didn't think about diagonal movement, but it does make the game more interesting.

@rogual you're right the med-kits have a higher chance of spawning the lower your health is, it's really cool you figured that out.

@lonewookie I definitely think an endless mode would be fun, and a few people have asked for it. Thank you for the feedback on the music.

@hiko-game I would have liked to have the game change as your run went on. For example faster movement, new types of planks, or different music.

Infiniraft by LDJQ 2021-10-10T04:36:23Z

@nekowei I wanted to have the difficulty increase as the player moved through the level, but I ran out of time.

Infiniraft by LDJQ 2021-10-11T03:00:56Z

@frogman I agree. I wanted to have a more elaborate algorithm for generating new rows, but I did not have the time. Right now, new rows are created in a mostly random way.

@ildfuglen The game is definitely too easy, and I would have liked to include more types of hazards. For example an enemy that would steal coins if you touched it. ___ proto_planks.png

*Old plank designs: left is a regular plank, and right is a rotten plank.*

@seskon I tried to make the new designs more distinct because I had trouble telling the old ones apart, but I agree that there still needs to be more contrast between the two.

Infiniraft by LDJQ 2021-10-16T01:06:44Z

@flomino I agree. The platforms are too jumpy.

@nate954 Thank you for the kind words.

@mfauzan I felt the same way at first, but I eventually got use to it. With that said I would still like to make the animation smoother.

@erikkire Thank you for the feedback, I'll keep that in mind.

@krjemelik It is possible to move diagonally, but it is hard to do reliably. I did not think about diagonal movement when I was making the game, so it is more an accidental feature than an intentional one. Because of this I do not feel it would be appropriate to release a new version that makes it easier to do.

Infiniraft by LDJQ 2021-10-21T04:16:48Z

@exmxpx Definitely would like to have more of a challenge.

@sleepystudios I think you're right. Thank you for the specifics.

@coolestdoggie Love the enthusiasm.

@flying-dog-fish Appreciate the feedback.

@kristinamay Yeah, the Pico-8 is great fun to work with. Thank you for the feedback.

Infiniraft by LDJQ 2021-10-21T21:07:23Z

@jonah-srg Thank you for the detailed feedback, it is very helpful.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Evacuation by someone 2022-04-19T01:34:35Z

The aliens are adorable; even their death animation is cute. The somber atmosphere mixed with their cuteness makes this game so good.

It's like I'm in this horrifying war zone where all the combatants are barneys, and I'm just mowing them down. Absolutely made my day.

At Least You're Not Extinct Yet by shizuka 2022-04-19T04:07:26Z

That ending.

The game fits the theme perfectly, the music is relaxing, and the art appealing. I would like to see an expanded version of this game.

Try Again by Flaterectomy 2022-04-20T01:46:14Z

The page styling looks good, and the story is enjoyable. The looping mechanic made dying feel less repetitive.

I like the music, good job.

CRAB IS INEVITABLE! by luthwyhn 2022-04-19T04:40:54Z

This game has a lot of variety: from the different enemy sprites to the upgrades. I enjoyed playing through it.

My first time at the Urchin Merchant I had trouble figuring out how to buy upgrades, but I got it quickly enough.

I like the story's interpretation of the theme.

They are coming! by unfinished 2022-04-18T21:02:06Z

I like the art, particularly the earth's animation.

The different AI behaviors make the game much more interesting. What impressed me the most was the one that flies around the earth then beelines for it once close enough; this was difficult to counter while not feeling unfair.

I think that enemies have a bit too much health.

Blockage by Dis0rder 2022-04-14T04:16:31Z

I absolutely loved the music, and it in combination with the art gave the game a uniquely tense vibe.

World Pees by EvoGenGames 2022-04-19T04:50:47Z

Finally the answer to California's drought problems.

The Witch's Curse by clue 2022-04-19T05:31:54Z

Took me some time to figure out the game loop, but once I did the game became very interesting. Love the music, and the characters are cute.

I do think dying is a bit too easy; I would be doing fine then make a mistake that quickly cascaded into failure.

Only You Can Try In Vain To Prevent Forest Fires On An Active Volcano by bigbazwa 2022-04-19T05:08:28Z

I like the graphics (particularly the lighting), and the sound effects are on point. A good sense of humor and use of the theme.

I found the game a little too easy, and some more game mechanics would have been nice.

Overall a unique and fun game.

Dinosaur Apocalypse by sivarde 2022-04-19T03:12:22Z

The music fits the game well, the art is cute, and the game matches the theme perfectly.

The gameplay is engaging, and it ramps up smoothly; though, I would like to see more depth to it.

Interstellar Transport Pod by Flightless 2022-04-19T06:46:58Z

An interesting game. The music and art really set a mood.

Like others have said: I did find myself continuously clicking, but I still found the game fun.

The Bone Cold by dmtroy 2022-04-20T06:37:49Z

The atmosphere reminds me of The Long Dark. Having the player character's animation change as they get colder is a nice touch.

After the fire died out I would have liked to get a score or see my survival time.

CLIMATE GARDENING by Lexxio 2022-04-19T00:58:28Z

The music is very relaxing, and the art is detailed.

It took me a while to realize I needed to harvest plants for seeds, but everything else was easy to understand.

Being able to speed the game up would be nice especially while trying to learn the game mechanics.

Necromicide by The Blue Hatted 2022-04-19T06:34:19Z

Really like the music, and the art has style (that melee animation is very satisfying).

I would have liked a larger moveset, other than that this is an excellent entry.

Hummingbird by Madbarron 2022-04-19T02:17:26Z

I never knew how hard it was to be a bird.

The music is calming, and the game fits the theme well.

I did find the game to be very difficult, but this did not really bother me because the game is relaxing.

Imposter Syndrome Surgeon by kason.xiv 2022-04-19T05:43:04Z

I don't see how it's unethical if it works?

Surprisingly fun. The music fits the pace perfectly, and the art matches the tone of the game.

Overall a fun entry.

Death Or Taxes by Fionnabhair 2022-04-20T05:49:10Z

I don't know why but I feel like the narrator doesn't like me.

A fun story with interesting branches. Being able to quickly undo a decision is a nice touch that homegrown interactive fiction frequently lacks.

Quota Qrunch by macs 2022-04-14T04:20:04Z

This game makes perfect use of the theme. The art is charming, and the gameplay is simple but fun.

The sound effects when talking to an NPC really helped to make each one unique.

Oh No My Trophy by zimny11 2022-04-18T22:35:20Z

It took a little time for me to get the hang of it, but after that it was fun trying to get a higher score. The tip on not needing to click with the first weapon made the game a lot more enjoyable, so I would make it stand out more in the description (e.g. moving it up higher).

The music fit the game well, and the animations are satisfying.

Highscore: 572

The Final Word: A Microsoft Word Platform Game by leekanarchism 2022-04-19T07:26:58Z

God I'm bad at plateformers. I don't know how I managed to out plateform Clippy but I did, and he will now haunt my nightmares.

Would play again.

Sir, your Armor is melting by FloGames 2022-04-19T07:38:24Z

The game controls very smoothly, and the art is clean. The gameplay is simple but fun.

I could see this turning into a very good post jam game if sound effects were added and the gameplay expanded.

Door Man by Mavvy 2022-04-18T23:30:11Z

The gameplay is intuitive and the art has a mood, but the real stand out for me is the music. It’s grooving.

The first time I stepped off the pressure plate too soon had me laughing; seeing her launch off into the stratosphere just got to me.

Morth II - but you are a shopkeeper in the forest town. by XOREAXEAX 2022-04-19T06:21:12Z

The music, art, and cards are well done. The gameplay needs explained a little better, but I would be interested in seeing an expand version of this.

I Would Like to Thank the Academy by sprunth 2022-04-14T09:32:01Z

photo.png This is exactly what happened: in 1984 TED was founded, and in 1989 the US invaded Panama in order to hold the first TED Talk™; perfectly accurate.

It's always fun playing around with generators like this, but it's hard to make them feel rewarding after the novelty wears off.

It was a good idea to frame the game around giving a speech.

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-14T08:57:59Z

The addictive gameplay and announcer made this one of my favorite entries so far. I do think the rate of fire is too slow (I would rather have reduced damage), and at one point I got lost off the side of the screen and had to restart.

Overall a fun game.

Can You Out Run It? by ADerpyChickenStudios 2022-04-18T23:56:33Z

The art is cute, and the gameplay is fun. Beating hard mode had my heart racing.

Moving sideways did feel a little sluggiest.

Lava Tactics by animawish 2022-04-20T05:00:55Z

Cheat mode was very helpful for learning the game's systems.

Caterpillar by LDJQ 2022-04-15T02:04:19Z

Thank you for the feedback everyone.

I absolutely agree that more quest variety is needed, @unfinished.

Caterpillar by LDJQ 2022-04-18T21:01:45Z

Thank you @mavvy, that is very kind of you to say.

Caterpillar by LDJQ 2022-04-19T01:01:15Z

Thank you for the feedback @fionnabhair, and I will try to reproduce that bug when I have time.

Caterpillar by LDJQ 2022-04-21T10:47:53Z

Thanks for the tip @flogames. The background audio is a recording of my outdoor garden, and I was worried it would have noise issues. I tried cleaning it up but my audio editing skills are severely lacking, so any tips are greatly appreciated.

Inevitable Seige by Hawke Games 2022-04-19T03:52:35Z

I was unable to go through the tutorial due to it not fitting my 1366x768 monitor, so at first I found the game pretty difficult.

Once I figured out how to use the mud to delay waves the game became really enjoyable. The art is nice to look at, and the music fits the pace of the game well.

I survived to day 12, and really liked the game after the gameplay clicked.

Dead Stars by ImmanentDeath 2022-04-19T07:01:13Z

A little confusing, but the mood easily makes up for that. A unique and interesting entry.
