I love when LD games are clones. I dunno why, something about the familiarity mixing with whatever twist the dev puts on it within the constraints of the theme. It's just totally my jam.

I really liked the retro art here, and the music was a nice touch. I found the game itself excruciatingly difficult, though. Like, you can't stop? God, that's hard. I ended up trying to stop by alternating left/right quickly, which you can sometimes sorta do. I feel like if you can sort of stop by doing that, the game should just let you stop. I didn't make it very far, but would have liked to see the rest of the game.

Flappy Bird has nothing on this! It's super difficult, but very well made. Great job on the graphics too!

Like others have said, the game is way too difficult.

Flappy bird was hard enough, asking the player to play flappy bird while also making them change direction to avoid being hit, AND timing inputs to pull off parries is way too much.

I like the idea of tweaking the OG flappy bird formula, but I think you should have just added the parry mechanic. Keep the same simple level design of flappy bird so that the player only hast to focus on flying over or under obstacles, but add enemies and projectiles that you can parry.

The game was very well made though. Great job with the art and music

Always happy to play Pico-8 games, but man was this difficult... And I'm no stranger to masocore!

I already gave up after the second checkpoint. :cry:

And it's not as if I didn't try! I wish there was a death-counter. No kidding, I probably died hundreds of times, and made no progress beyond that.

I agree with the previous comments when they say that the game is too hard. Making a game challenging might be a good idea when you are targeting a specific kind of audience, but in this case, you'll rebuff a lot of LD jammers, which is not what you want. Make sure your game is accessible.

Otherwise, the gameplay is fun, and I like the idea of controlling the direction (Just wish we could stop as well), and the graphics/audio are good for the game.

I agree with the others that this ramped up in difficulty _incredibly_ fast. I encourage you write in the description somewhere (yes, I know it's in the video) that you can parry walls - from the little animation it looks like you can only parry bullets. Why would someone think to parry a wall? It's not attacking you.

I think starting off with relatively easy patterns that match the rough movement of the player without needing to wobble back and forth and then slowly introducing the back and forth mechanic with enough space for errors while the player learns would've been a good intro to what you have here.

Also many times on the very first checkpoint I would flap to start and immediately crash into the ceiling! You have to just barely feather the key to get out of there safely, which makes restarts more punishing than I think you might have intended.

So I think the gameplay could be tweaked a little. But the graphics are quite pretty and very polished, and the music and sound effects are a pleasant addition and add to the game. Good job overall!

I find it difficult to move sometimes, everything happens so fast. Managed to be able to fly up if I mash left and right alternatively, while pressing jump. But the game looks really nice and polish. I guess making tunnels a little wider will ease overall controlling of the character

Thank you for making this, it is really fun.

The art gives this cyber dystopian feel that fits the brutal gameplay well.

Trying to find the best way to exploit the parry to get to a checkpoint is a delight, and I could see people doing speedruns of this game because of it.

Playing this had me fidgeting in my sit the same way [Clustertruck](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClusterTruck) did. It is stressful, but in a fun way.

I think having easier levels in the beginning to teach players the game mechanics would be a good idea, and needing to touch hearts to get the checkpoints is too punishing *in my opinion*.

Are you meant to auto-parry by holding the parry button? ____

If you activate the checkpoint from above you will be too close to the ceiling when you respawn. In a similar vein: depending on the height you die at you will spawn at a slightly different location.

Lastly, it is possible to parry through the ceiling to get out of bounds.

I think this may be too difficult for me. The scrolling and jumping makes it hard to make the precise movements necessary to progress, I only made it to the first heart and died a lot. Other than that, I love the concept, the graphics and sound/music are great!

Very nice game here, I had to take a couple of minutes out of frustration and retry but that's the nature of it, so it didn't bother me. Good idea on combining mechanics and give this lovely artstyle. You can add extra skins, or colors like downwell and maybe a point system and it can easily be on switch.

I finally won. After playing the game for a while it grew on me and was pretty fun. Especially once I realized how to use the bash/invincibility move. But I thought the beginning was way too hard. It took me half the time just to get past the first two checkpoints, because vertical movement is hard to get used to in this game. Overall, impressive for a 48-hour submission. Thanks for another PICO-8 game.

Very challenging game! The parts that went straight vertically upwards were especially hard for me. I liked the parry/reflect button a lot once i got a feel for it. It took a while to get used to everything, but I had fun playing once I knew what was going on. Someone else said this, but I also wish the beginning levels were easier. Overall, this was a pretty cool submission.
