LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

A Journey of Sacrifice by MediocreMonty 2021-10-04T11:27:04Z

Love the art style! Finished on my second or third run which is a good difficulty for a LD game. Mostly pretty easy to understand even without a tutorial. Great work!

Feedback: Few glitches that happened, although I am sure you're mostly aware of them. I went slightly over weight and the game didn't end, the ship just started bobbing up and down in the water and this audio queue played over and over again. I could still keep going though! haha. I couldn't seem to pick up treasure no matter what, although maybe that was because a variable changed when I went over weight that time?

Only non-bug feedback: I wish you could get most of the resources from a box even if you couldn't fit it all. Felt bad to leave it to the sea! (Also tiny feedback that having two soldiers should make you do double damage to the sea monster :D )

:)

LD46 — Keep it alive

Night of the Killer Beetles by ErikU 2021-10-07T04:49:03Z

Fun little game that I could definitely see being made into a bigger game. Great work!

LD49 — Unstable

Split by Willops 2021-10-05T05:20:29Z

Visually pleasing game. Great audio as well. Straight into the action which is always good for a LD game, however I felt that in this case it almost would have been better to slow things down a bit as there was a lot to learn all at once and I didn't feel that much in control as a result. Felt a little bit like button spamming in a fighting game that you don't know that well.

I happen to like button spamming though! :D

Larry's Whacky Alchemy Lab by Tiberiusuciu 2021-10-07T03:42:29Z

Ok I love the art and I love the game idea. Great stuff! Very fun and gives me retro game feels.

Having the different effects to your movement is cool and I can even imagine what an expanded version of the game would be like with visual effects, audio changes, etc.

Great work. :)

Deep Space Defenders by megalukes 2021-10-07T01:49:16Z

Really enjoyed this one. Might be the game that I have played most so far!

Got to wave 14, this is a difficult game haha. Maybe a couple of balance issues (not sure that the $200 is worth it at all), but overall a really polished jam game. Great work!

P.S I loved the music so much, would love to see the sound effects turned down slightly to enjoy the tune even more. :)

Astral Collapse by Richard Baron 2021-10-07T02:49:39Z

Super fun game that flows really well. Love the gravity from the star. Love the music. Love the variety of enemies.

If I was to have any feedback it would maybe be that slow motion should have a limit, as I realised after a while that I was using it a LOT. Was much more fun once I made myself stop using it I think.

Great game!

Would love it if you could check out mine. :)

Snmuloc by tayl1r 2021-10-07T09:53:43Z

At first I was like 🥱 But then I was like 😮

Great twist on a classic genre. Love it!

The Invisible Hand by thyagodarth 2021-10-07T00:03:39Z

I like the idea, although I am not sure that it was complete or all functioning correctly.

Am I right that the only impact I have on the game is clicking the virus? I even tried to deliberately lose by running out of money and it didn't end hehe.

If I am missing something then let me know! Would love to play again.

Would love you to check out my game if you have time!

Etherlands by Ethernal Tech 2021-10-06T23:48:36Z

Oh this game looks great but I am getting the same black screen bug. :(

149th element by Soulo 2021-10-07T04:20:40Z

Awesome concept and love the pixel art. I agree that maybe a quest log or visual inventory could have helped, but it's definitely a cool little game.

Glad I wasn't the only one to make a game that has a pixel art guy in a hazmat suit. haha, great work. :)

149th element by Soulo 2021-10-07T08:54:02Z

Sounds amazing @soulo! The game works without them so I wouldn't stress too much. Would love to get your opinion on my game too if you have time!

UnstableOS by ZwodahS 2021-10-04T04:58:07Z

Cool little game concept. I like the idea of it being about a ship's OS. I think if the game was slowed down slightly and with a few extra screens to manage it could be a lot of fun!

Graphically really pleasing and I like the idea of juggling random errors etc., but it might have been slightly more clear what was going on with some simple audio queues.

Keep up the good work!

Wizards Quest by Lakea 2021-10-06T23:44:43Z

Cool little game, I love the turn based combat. This has given my some inspiration to try a similar game. :)

Pile Up Medieval by zimny11 2021-10-07T02:25:37Z

This game is rediculous and stupid and I love it haha.

Very different to what I expected, in a good way.

Pile Up Medieval by zimny11 2021-10-07T08:55:56Z

Well I think you nailed that @zimny11 haha. Would love you to check mine out if you have a moment, too!

Pile Up Medieval by zimny11 2021-10-07T09:47:51Z

@zimny11 Wow that inspirational, I love it haha.

Beam by Joeriri 2021-10-07T13:22:37Z

Great game, played and enjoyed the whole thing. Well done!

The Un's Stable by Kongo 2021-10-07T10:19:14Z

This has got to be my fav game of the jam so far. Absolutely love it. Whoever did the 'singing' over the music is my spirit animal. I actually love everything about this hahaha. Thanks team!

It's All In Your Head by real_flamingicecubegames 2021-10-07T00:45:21Z

This worm is just grovin' No need to bother it.

10/10 hahaha

Missed Spelling by Gryhyphen 2021-10-07T05:00:39Z

I love the feel of the game, although I am pretty bad at it haha.

Great music and sounds, especially with the slowmo. Great concept. keep it up!

(check out my game if you have some spare time! <3 )

Sanity Is Reality by MCHS productions 2021-10-06T12:05:19Z

Interesting little mindf**k of a game. I think I will hear that tune in my dreams tonight haha. What's your highscore? I had fun! :)

Also just as an FYI, even when using 32x32 sprites like your game (and mine), you can use draw HUD instead of draw as well as setting Anti-aliasing to off in your fonts and get text that is much much more clear. <3

Unstable Isotope by Nafe 2021-10-07T00:34:53Z

@real-flamingicecubegames Thanks! Me too haha. I actually had some other audio done, such as a death sound etc. but was pretty hard on time and decided not to impliment without having the rest of the audio done.

Same goes with level design and levels. Would have loved to have more complex and interesting levels!

This was my first ever game jam (compo) and oh boy was I rushing towards the end.

Thanks also to @megalukes and all the comments from a couple of days ago. Really appreciate it!

Unstable Isotope by Nafe 2021-10-07T02:04:55Z

@kyrell Definitely a pretty short game. I have no excuses other than that I ran out of time! :(

Thanks heaps for the feedback and for playing my game!

Unstable Isotope by Nafe 2021-10-07T04:26:06Z

@richard-baron Thanks for the great feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I envisioned a game where the player could go anywhere but the isotope couldn't, but I agree that jumping was not the answer. I thought that it would be a lot easier to get it to feel nice, and in the end I had put so much time into bug fixing the jumping that I didn't want to remove it. Sunk cost fallacy I guess!

I think an alternative like steps that the play could automatically walk up, but that would still cause the explosion, would have been better. I originally wanted to do areas with heat/electricity that the player could get through if they didn't stand still, that would have been better too I think that the janky jumping.

Thanks!

Unstable Isotope by Nafe 2021-10-07T05:56:44Z

Thanks @pkzinpo! Not sure of that exact bug but it doesn't surpris me. If you read some of my replies you will see that I wasn't super happy with the jumping haha.

Really appreciate the feedback. :)

Unstable Isotope by Nafe 2021-10-07T09:01:52Z

@lakea You can jump over the pools, but it's still far from perfect! Thanks for playing. :)

@ldjq Thanks! Had fun making the level select. My plan was to have an intuitive tutorial as part of the 'menu room'. Picking up boxes, a switch for the music, a conveyor belt on the ground etc.

In regards to the acid level and hitboxes, you are absolutely right. I wasn't super happy with it at all but it was done very late as I needed more levels. The hitboxes for acid, the jumping and the small amount of levels were all learning points for sure. Thanks again!

Unstable Isotope by Nafe 2021-10-07T12:13:54Z

@python-b5 Not sure why I didn't include that! Oops

@joeriri Thank you! And yes I was a fan of that mechanic. The main idea that I devoloped the game around was that the player can go anywhere, but the box can't (because it's unstable lol). <3

Reliable Reactors Co. by EthanZech 2021-10-04T11:09:29Z

Had a lot of fun, great first entry.

Similar feedback to above, it's slightly slow to ramp up. You'll find that when there are thousands of games to rate that people just want to jump straight into the action. The trick is finding the sweet spot between adding new mechanics quickly and not overdoing the learning curve.

I'm sure you learned heaps and I look forward to seeing what you can do next time! Keep it up. :)

Parcel Panic by PKZinpo 2021-10-07T00:31:31Z

I actually had a heap of fun playing this, but my god is it difficult haha.

Great art, sound and style. Made me learn the layout of the little town which was actually kind of fun.

Great stuff!

Would love to get your opinion on my game if you're playing other games!

Infiniraft by LDJQ 2021-10-07T04:53:41Z

Fun little retro style game! I like it a lot. I can imagine a whole little console of similar mini games. :)

Randomazer by Plotnikov Ilya 2021-10-07T04:03:57Z

Picture at the end made me laugh, thanks for that.

Fun game idea for sure! I think it could have been even a bit more simple/fast paced, but it was still really enjoyable. A good LD entry. :)

Alpha Decay by dsoberdan 2021-10-07T03:33:37Z

Loved the art style and idea. Sounds were good as well. Took me a moment to work out what was going on, but definitely seems like it could be a relaxing puzzle game that could be expanded on. Great work, team!
