Oh man. I had so much trouble getting my brain to accept not matching diagonals lol. This was fun.

hacksawunit 2021-10-04 01:05

Very cool take on the theme and a very interesting puzzle game! Requires a totally different strategy and feels very fresh despite its inspirations.

jk5000 2021-10-04 06:30

A little difficult to avoiding getting 3 in rows, but the idea is funny, and I overall had fun playing the game. Well done.

decentsauce 2021-10-04 20:11

Got 40! Really solid game and well polished!

2021-10-04 20:26

Haha, neat concept! c: I like the explosion effect and the gems getting flung all over the place when you lose.

This is a neat twist on the usual match three game. In a usual match three game, I find I am usually not thinking all too hard about anything but one particular match--I almost always miss all sorts of matches that show up as a chain reaction, as I simply don't care about them. But in this game I have to care very much about every single possible match.

So it's really an extremely fresh take on the genre, because it fundamentally changes the way the game is played, and none of the way I would play a usual match three game transfers here. This game is not fast paced at all, it is very slow and deliberate, and the contrast with the way I expect a match three game to work is just really cool.

The inverse of match three is a fun mechanic, it makes it so you really have to think before placing every block. Love the clean design of the main menu and the game over animation. Well done with the game!

Interesting to put a reverse spin on the match 3 mechanics! This makes it a bit hard to read though - I would recommend putting in some visual hints about what is encouraged and what not. Otherwise you're risking turning rewarding moments into unexpected "ok I think I did something right" ones. I wasn't sure what to do until the first pile of gems disappeared without an explosion.

Aside from that, your visuals are nice and it's easy to pick up and play. These kinds of games always need a lot of eye candy rolling around and you still got room for that.

But it's definitely a good entry and an interesting take on the theme. Well done!

Oh my god this is incredible. Who would've thought a puzzle game where you have to AVOID clears could be so punishing? I love the concept and I love the "oh *crap*" moment when you realize you've accidentally set up a match XD

nafe 2021-10-07 09:53

At first I was like 🥱 But then I was like 😮

Great twist on a classic genre. Love it!

very-bad-bunny-studio 2021-10-07 09:57

YOU DESTROYED MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD GAME! I AM IN LOVE WITH COLUMNS, I JUST CAN'T NOT DO THE MAATCHS! Haha, kidding around, what an amazing idea man! Simply brilliant, and everything worked out very well, congratulations, this is a concept to be explored.

jessefreeman 2021-10-07 10:00

Agree, really nice take on the genre and felt nicely polished. Took me a sec to get what was going on but once it clicked I liked it!

robindbois 2021-10-07 11:06

Unmatch 3, I like the idea. Fun to play, I like match 3 and so it was difficult at the start to think differently but it work pretty well! GG

joeshanahan 2021-10-07 11:36

When I was super young, Columns was the one game that my mum would actually play, I think the music for it is burned into my brain somewhere at this point

Inverting the match-3 to be DON'T-match-3 is an interesting innovation I haven't seen before, requires different strategies for sure.

garywiss 2021-10-07 11:36

The reverse match 3 is an original and nice concept and it's more difficult than it looks  Good job on this one !

witekwitek 2021-10-07 14:55

I like the reverse 3 concept of the game.

I like the little details you added (for example the blocks exploding when you match 3)

The graphics look alright.

The game is somewhat humorous but not moody.

Could use some music though.

Overall, good game. -WitekWitek

That was surprising and fun. Nice base idea. Very probably this could be expanded. Looking forward to your Sokobot!

tayl1r 2021-10-07 15:22

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far. Glad so many people like the concept!

Yeah, I probably shoudn't have entered into audio with 3 sound effects... Well, too late now :P

And extra thanks for checking out Sokobot! :)

runrajrun 2021-10-07 15:22

This is way more difficult than it looks, i'm so used to connecting 3 or more gems to make a match that I die pretty much instantly in this game haha. An amazing take on match 3 with a lovely art style - great work!

tomssuli 2021-10-07 17:41

Sooo... if you suck really badly at match3 you'll ace this game 🤔

tron 2021-10-07 17:50

Best puzzle game in this competition! ;u;

coderaurus 2021-10-08 06:44

I like the reverse mechanic. Maybe I didn't play it enough, but I wonder what is the function of the cross at top and how diamonds behave?

tayl1r 2021-10-08 10:19

Thanks. The cross just checks if you're stacked up too high. So if there is a block in the X when it tires to spawn a shape it's game over (similar to Puyo Puyo).

Diamonds are wildcard blocks. So if you have green-diamond-green it'll act as a green for the purpose of a match.

richnou 2021-10-08 15:27

not matching... oh yeah...

So unstable for the player that I am ;-)

iacopo 2021-10-09 11:25

Very nice twist on the genre, I can only say that the exploding sound made me jump when I lost. I would be curious to see how it plays with different shapes like Tetris :)

naali 2021-10-11 01:52

Very interesting idea, and much more difficult than I thought it would be.
