Great job! I like the concept, the execution was good, and it had a decent amount of levels for a jam game. Great art and good music too.

Yes Nafe!! Love it 😊 Cracking concept and execution given the time restraints as well as everything else going on in life! Loved watching some of your process last night. Keen to join you in a Jam soon!

Those blood, acid and isotope explosions ❤️

Enjoyable, a tad short. The puzzles were fun, even if the jumping felt a bit off. Overall very polished.

bougiebirdie 2021-10-04 01:04

This game has a lot of polish to it. I love that the player is able to turn off the music if they want to by flipping a switch on the main screen. It's always neat when your UI ends up in the environment AND it teaches people to use a switch. Super well done!

``` >be me >plant worker just trying to enjoy life >favour color = yellow >unstable isotope discovered in plant >oh shit.jpg >pick up isotope and trying to save the day >open door to find room full of acid >WTF.wav >immediately yeet myself and isotope into oblivion >ded. >10/10 would yeet again ```
Loving it! So much done in so little time.
megalukes 2021-10-07 00:13
Very simple and good. Congrats for doing it in 48 hours!
real-flamingicecubegames 2021-10-07 00:17
Awesome puzzle game. I only wish there was more audio and more levels.
nafe 2021-10-07 00:34
@real-flamingicecubegames Thanks! Me too haha. I actually had some other audio done, such as a death sound etc. but was pretty hard on time and decided not to impliment without having the rest of the audio done.
Same goes with level design and levels. Would have loved to have more complex and interesting levels!
This was my first ever game jam (compo) and oh boy was I rushing towards the end.
Thanks also to @megalukes and all the comments from a couple of days ago. Really appreciate it!
kyrell 2021-10-07 01:18
This was pretty sweet! Would definitely love to see this expanded upon with more areas an mechanics, even so as it is it's a super fun puzzle game. Song was a tad repetitive but sounds very eerie and definitely sets the mood well. Great entry!
nafe 2021-10-07 02:04
@kyrell Definitely a pretty short game. I have no excuses other than that I ran out of time! :(
Thanks heaps for the feedback and for playing my game!
richard-baron 2021-10-07 03:49
This is such a great entry! I think your music is cool and moody, the puzzles were pretty good for 48 hours, and the art was totally adequate. I don't think 2.5d overhead is a good format for a precision platformer tho... maybe think of another mechanic than jumping for getting around. I tried about 15 times on the last level due to the weird perspective and the unintuitive jump cooldown. Anyway, great entry!!
nafe 2021-10-07 04:26
@richard-baron Thanks for the great feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I envisioned a game where the player could go anywhere but the isotope couldn't, but I agree that jumping was not the answer. I thought that it would be a lot easier to get it to feel nice, and in the end I had put so much time into bug fixing the jumping that I didn't want to remove it. Sunk cost fallacy I guess!
I think an alternative like steps that the play could automatically walk up, but that would still cause the explosion, would have been better. I originally wanted to do areas with heat/electricity that the player could get through if they didn't stand still, that would have been better too I think that the janky jumping.
Thanks!
pkzinpo 2021-10-07 05:23
Very nice puzzle game! The song definitely fits the whole mood very well. Though, during the main room where you can select any level, I was jumping around near the levers and stuff (because I usually like to get a feel for the movement haha) and after a few seconds, the game seemed to freeze? Actually, I was jumping around again in the level selection room and then it happened again. Though, it only happened when I was jumping near the levers in the level selection room, seemed kind of spontaneous so I have no idea what could have caused it. I had to close and restart the game to fix it
Other than that, I liked it a lot! Adding some more levels and mechanics would definitely yield a very nice puzzle/platformer game. Overall, a great job!
nafe 2021-10-07 05:56
Thanks @pkzinpo! Not sure of that exact bug but it doesn't surpris me. If you read some of my replies you will see that I wasn't super happy with the jumping haha.
Really appreciate the feedback. :)
joel-davis 2021-10-07 06:40
Well done! some really good puzzles in there. The player control was a bit weird but i think with a little bit of tuning this could be an excellent puzzle/platformer. Also I thought the "top down but with two levels" thing was very clever, haven't seen that used much before.
lakea 2021-10-07 07:29
well done on a good entry, got to the last room but then couldnt work out how to get past all the acid, found the pixel perfect position on some pool to get through but not on others.
ldjq 2021-10-07 07:55
Dig the chill music, and I like the character's walk cycle. The level select is a nice touch.
I found the acid room kind of frustrating. One of the reasons is the player's hitbox being slightly above the feet (I'm guessing); which is good because it lets them walk down to the edge of acid pools, but means walking upwards you die if your knees cross the acid.
nafe 2021-10-07 09:01
@lakea You can jump over the pools, but it's still far from perfect! Thanks for playing. :)
@ldjq Thanks! Had fun making the level select. My plan was to have an intuitive tutorial as part of the 'menu room'. Picking up boxes, a switch for the music, a conveyor belt on the ground etc.
In regards to the acid level and hitboxes, you are absolutely right. I wasn't super happy with it at all but it was done very late as I needed more levels. The hitboxes for acid, the jumping and the small amount of levels were all learning points for sure. Thanks again!
python-b5 2021-10-07 11:22
This game feels very polished and is a lot of fun! A fullscreen mode might be nice, but I really enjoyed this one :)
Great work!
joeriri 2021-10-07 11:26
A very nice game! The mechanic of not being able to jump witht he box is very elegant and the puzzles are simple but pretty clever. You leave me wanting more!
nafe 2021-10-07 12:13
@python-b5 Not sure why I didn't include that! Oops
@joeriri Thank you! And yes I was a fan of that mechanic. The main idea that I devoloped the game around was that the player can go anywhere, but the box can't (because it's unstable lol). <3
zimny11 2021-10-07 14:56
It was a fun mix between platformer and puzzle game. I really nice the explosion effect and the way acid looks. Generally, art style look nice. The music fits too. Good job!
josher 2021-10-07 16:20
Nice! I like the concept and it works really well with the theme. Took me a while to realise I probably shouldn't jump around with nuclear material though...
denatus 2021-10-07 20:22
Pretty fun and really followed the theme. Got a bit frustrated with the diagonal jumping upwards. Quite short but I understand that is it's hard to do everything in 48 hours. Finished with 11 deaths.
legolula 2021-10-07 20:24
Love the humour, very well done. Only think I'd say is to start with easier levels. Congrats on you entry!
victoriaogino 2021-10-08 00:29
Awesome! It took me a while to get the hang of the diagonal jumps on the last level, but I love the simple, fun puzzle design! Very cool :D
mathiouza 2021-10-08 01:06
Really great! I loved the mood and the music! The walking animation was fun ahah, it seems like the characters swings only one leg to move x) Other than the the art is neat, simple but works really well I think. The mechanics are good too.
My only complaint would be that it is a bit counter intuitive to have a jump command on a top down game like that. I kept forgetting that it was possible on the two first levels. But that's quite a minor issue though.
Anyway, great work on that! :clap:
soulo 2021-10-08 20:38
Greetings from the other pixel hazmat guy ;)
It's very good for the first compo to make the game that looks complete. Liked the music and art style. Especially green jumping points - sometimes pixel art effects can look much more expressive than complicated graphics.
o-sim 2021-10-08 22:18
Really well polished visuals: particles, animations, the screens, impressive! I think the jumping precision would be improved if the character wouldn't move faster in diagonals. Plus I would move the character collision detection to their soles. But thats just even more polish to already well polished game.
skymouse 2021-10-09 00:23
Nice work nafe quite a fun play through. The music and visuals certainly matched the game. The level design was good as well slowly increasing difficulty. I think some more sound effects for walking, picking up and placing the box would help with polish, but all things considered amazing work given how quickly you made it
emaigualmc2-art 2021-10-13 20:12
I find it incredible the amount of work you could do in such a short time! I would like to see more levels in the future and for that art to be polished, great job!
macaroni-dev 2021-10-19 01:44
Really enjoyed playing it - loved the workplace incidents count hehe. Great vibe and aesthetic.
