Connection Lost by mvasko2 2021-10-15T01:33:04Z

I really enjoyed your game. I was a bit skeptical of the challenge of "follow the van" until I pulled in too close and suddenly they had a GUN. These people are defending their wifi with violence!

The idea of following close but not too close was quite interesting. I also really liked that the camera pulls back as you accelerate - it seems like such a little thing but it's a huge quality of life feature and just looks good too.

I didn't like that I couldn't drive on the sidewalks, I felt like sometimes you needed that extra bit of space to take some of the tighter corners. But in the end I got to download my favorite movie, and that's all that matters

FrogEatsMouse by JCMonkey 2021-10-03T17:16:05Z

Super fun game! You've got a lot going on here, it took me a couple runs before I found the groove.

I don't seem to be able to give it a ranking yet - I guess because the compo isn't over yet, but I'll be sure to come back and show it some love!

Great game!

The Battle Alchemist by cirno 2021-10-03T22:47:47Z

Super fun game! I could see using this game to teach your kids about factors. Are you going to develop it any further? I could see myself buying a deck builder like this with a bit more polish.

That dodge roll is super slick. This deer has some moves!

If I had more stars to give, you'd get all of them :)

The Alchemyst by zedutchgandalf 2021-10-08T01:03:19Z

This feels like an idle game, but one that you can't walk away from. An active-idle game? I like that you included all the stats to be visible. That's feels like exactly what fans of incremental games are looking for!

Experiment #56 by ildfuglen 2021-10-15T01:36:25Z

Thanks for sending your game to my stream! I really enjoyed it  :mouse:

Loved the grappling hook mechanic, it was just such a delight when you get the hang of it and, dare I say, get into the swing of things. I would love to see where else you go with this game, and I can't wait for the sequel where I get to bust my hamster pal out to go frolic in the happy meadow.

Improbability Fighter by Wendel Scardua 2021-10-15T01:56:10Z

Thanks for sending your game to my stream! I really enjoyed it, and I love seeing the improbability drive in action. I only wish there were more entities to transform into.

The controls were a bit challenging for me. I did really like that there was gamepad support, although the tetris piece was quite difficult to move with it.

I liked the aesthetic. It really looks like something you'd expect to see from the NES era and not simply filtered down to 8-bits

Bumpy Road by scottthoo 2021-10-04T01:08:26Z

On the one hand, I'm super frustrated about how I stick (or not) to the road. On the other hand, it perfectly encapsulates the theme.

Overall I had a lot of fun though :)

Stronkey Kong by 100th_Coin 2021-10-07T23:16:06Z

I had a lot of fun here, what a neat twist on a classic.

I did run into an issue though where barrels would get stuck on top of ladders. I was playing the softlock fix version.

The game did get to be a bit tedious while waiting for to earn enough points to build, but otherwise I though it was good for a laugh!

Servers VS Hackers by jkniest 2021-10-15T01:53:23Z

Thanks for sending this game to my stream! I quite enjoyed myself

I feel like I had a lot to say about this in the moment, and now I'm struggling to remember it all, whoops. Overall I quite enjoyed myself. Gorgeous aesthetic, love the IT angle, and it just felt nice.

There is a long period in the middle of each round where it feels like little is happening. At the start of the round there's some tension, you're probably wondering if you'll have enough time/money to build your defenses before the first enemy arrives. Then at the end of the round there's this huge wave of enemies. The middle of the round just felt a bit lacking, and I'm not sure what can be done to specifically address that.

I did enjoy finding my optimal strategy, but it was almost disappointing that it worked in every scenario. Maybe including some different enemy types might help with that, such as ones that can quickly close distance (making the firewalls more valuable), or others that can fly (making the spikes less valuable)

In the end though, I greatly enjoyed your game. It just looked and felt quite good :)

Great game! Too tough for me though lol

Slime-a-pult by Swen 2021-10-04T00:51:20Z

Super fun game! It definitely had more meat to it than some of the other games I've checked out in this jam. A bunch of levels to go through.

This slime holds the key to my heart, it's so cute!

Cross Over by Ryan Lambe 2021-10-15T01:14:21Z

My only complaint is that it was over too soon. I'd love to play more like this!

Are You Sleeping? by DrFallos 2021-10-07T22:54:21Z

Wow, the sound was what really made it for me in this game. The noises and soundtrack made it far spookier for me

KungFun BaLance by LuhUchiha 2021-10-03T22:23:52Z

Fun game! I really liked your sound track. I did have some trouble switching from bow stance to cat stance, getting all the way across the bar sometimes I would lose some life.

Collapse by epb9000 2021-10-03T23:52:33Z

This game was fun! You have a really neat style and the soundtrack shows real effort

THE COVID RACE by Aarre Entertainment 2021-10-03T22:14:22Z

Great game! I love the idea of using real world data to integrate into your game like that, it's really clever!

Just a heads up, the controls listed on the itch page are reversed :)

AtomBurst by Tigeryue 2021-10-07T23:41:49Z

Holy crap your game is juicy. It really goes to show how good a game can feel even if it's just circles and squares. I love the audio direction too, it really made it for me

Gunsundheit! by Papabirb 2021-10-15T01:38:38Z

Thanks for sending your game to my stream, I really enjoyed it!

Every day another funeral, c'est la vie. This game really toys with the absurd, and the art direction nails it. It might turn some people off I suppose, but it all really just works together. I also love the WTF sun too!

Gunsundheit! by Papabirb 2021-10-15T19:00:32Z

@papabirb Oh dang, you're right and the rating disappeared. Now I probably have to do over like a dozen ratings lol

The Penguins Below by michaelaranda 2021-10-12T18:05:19Z

I love the hand-drawn look of everything.

It was quite frustrating when I murdered one of my penguins and couldn't control that ballast anymore, but at the same time that seems totally fair since I... murdered the operator.

Very fun game!

Core:Unstable by eyedromeda 2021-10-04T18:38:44Z

Oooh, I like me a time-management game! You've got some really great stuff in here too. Things got really tense when the machines were shaking around when they got critical. I also really liked that the music cuts out when the power goes out, that's one of those little things that stays with you

You should be proud! I really enjoyed your game :)

Un's Table by Eva Knight 2021-10-06T01:57:02Z

With a little more polish I could see myself playing a game based around this mechanic. I sure wasn't expecting the table to start screaming at me, it gave me a laugh!

Coffee Crisis by Outfrost 2021-10-15T01:59:40Z

Thanks for sending your game to my stream!

I love food-service games, and this hits all the right time-management buttons for me. It does need some more love for the user-experience though, like being able to tell which machines are which, and I didn't get a really clear indicator if I passed or failed an order.

Your scene is really lively. All the little bits and bobs, the look of the place, and the art on the walls made it come alive. It felt like an actual coffee shop, and it was easy to overlook the unanimated/textured customers because of it.

I'm looking forward to seeing your post-LD build, I'd definitely play more of this!

gone. by wafflecomposite 2021-10-03T22:09:09Z

Nice game! Very simple loop, easy to pick up. I tried making a game with just vanilla JS and it was the worst experience of my life, so kudos to you!

B.A. in Animal Psychology by Frogravity 2021-10-07T23:34:50Z

I had a lot of fun! The dialogue for the ostrich was a bit difficult to navigate, but otherwise it was quite good. Made me laugh out loud :)

Don't drop it! by Srynetix 2021-10-07T21:21:05Z

Holy crap, this game is hard. I had a lot of fun with it though, and I'm definitely going to go back and see if I can get the surprise ending!

I did have a couple issues with the text, I think the colour might have been too similar to the grid borders, or maybe I just need new glasses lol

Piles - Pile it up by Mordrick 2021-10-04T17:46:41Z

I love/hate that the furniture is destructible. It's a neat idea to be able to break apart a chair to get more pieces, but sometimes I just want to keep them whole too. I also wish that I could move things with the mouse a bit easier, it was hard to place things in the orientation I wanted.

Overall though, I had a lot of fun! It's a neat concept

Tower of Tilt by James_7777 2021-10-15T01:27:45Z

This was a fun little game, very impressive for such a tight deadline! I've always liked this idea of "build it yourself" platformers.

The way the horizon shows your tilt feels like a double-edged sword. On the wone hand, it was an interesting way to show the direction of tilt while still being able to preserve your platform's gravity and controls, and I think that's brilliant. On the other hand, I'm not used to thinking of tilt from that perspective, and I struggled to realize which direction I was tilting in - which was particularly punishing since you have such a tight window to correct it.

Reflexively, I kept wanting to press ESC to toggle out of build mode. That does some bad things to the browser player though lol

All in all, I liked the game though. The controls are quite tight, it feels good to move the player around. And it's just got this pleasant look to it too.

Spacify by Sigo 2021-10-08T01:01:11Z

Holy crap, what a juicy game. Love it!

It's hard to find something to be critical of here. I think the main issue I had was with the wraparound mechanic tripping me up sometimes. I also think for how much stuff you have happening on screen at once, hitting a note feels just a touch underwhelming. Maybe some particles trailing behind the player or something while you're on a note would be what I'm looking for.

All in all though, amazing soundtrack and stunning visuals for just 48 hours. You should be super proud!

Contact Nesigur by Trexxak 2021-10-07T23:26:13Z

I love games like this, but I had an issue where every time I would die it would mangle the json file. I love the idea, but that made it quite hard to play.

The Pearl Thief by Furfel 2021-10-04T18:33:26Z

I couldn't hit the kraken for the life of me lol The unstable graphics are honestly nightmare fuel, I'm glad you put in the warning not to play after dark. Even with the lights on it gave me a good spook, so I'd say you've done very well at making that atmosphere come alive.

Manicat by RexTGun 2021-10-07T22:39:27Z

For your worst game ever, this is a pretty fun game!

Unstable Vampire: A Text based Infinite Runner by Dobryn 2021-10-04T17:53:32Z

A text-based runner game? Well now I've seen everything (seriously, great mashup)

I did notice that you can mash "run" to get further away from the vampire, but when another one comes up on you, you don't get a lot of room to dodge. I definitely struggled either with the reaction time or just running straight into them.

I had fun though!

Runstable by FluffyGameDev 2021-10-03T23:17:47Z

You have a very well put together game here, I played it through to the end.

I did have a usability issue where I had a hard time reading the text on the ground. It just wasn't super visible to me. But overall, great job!

A Curious Case Of Lines by BridgeOnAStick 2021-10-03T23:00:29Z

Holy crap, your game is stylish! Great soundtrack too!

Boat History by etrealjunior 2021-10-07T21:36:42Z

Great game!

Runaway Reactions by Taft Punk 2021-10-15T01:06:30Z

I love the look and sound of this game, and the premise of corralling those pesky particles is a fun idea. Something about the mechanics felt so nostalgic even if I can't quite place it, and the background music immediately evoked Tetris for me.

Placing the lines of foam was quite challenging though. The lines are quite long to start, and when you have many particles bouncing around in later levels it becomes quite difficult to even place a line without getting yourself hurt. I don't know how you'd specifically fix that though. Maybe there could be bits of foam already throughout the level that you can draw to, or even the ability to draw partial lines? I'm just spitballing here.

It was a lot of fun though!

Snake Using Windows by Benjamin Halko 2021-10-15T01:40:54Z

Thanks for sending your game to my stream! I really enjoyed it!

Snake has always been a favorite of mine, and I guess there's not really much more to say about that. But the idea to use multiple windows so you can overlay it onto your desktop? Too cool!

There's definitely some performance issues, and that completely makes sense given that you open a window for each 'pixel' - still I guess I'll have to download some more RAM so I can play this smoothly

Inferis Project by v0idpointer 2021-10-15T01:08:00Z

The idea of a game about an unstable game for the Unstable compo is super meta I found the nullmen quite spooky too

Space Alconaut by Bassilij 2021-10-04T18:10:13Z

This voxel style is super neat. What kind of tool do you use to build things with?

Unstable Genius by Doc Kaos 2021-10-04T00:10:28Z

Let's get some hype going for the GotY 2021

Shifting Labyrinth by plomeg 2021-10-07T22:58:49Z

I liked the premise of a labyrinth that shifts as you move around it. It made it feel almost like a puzzler, but it didn't quite scratch that itch for me.

I love that you thought to put a sound effect in for footsteps, although the one picked I found was really grating. That might just be my headphones though, I've had issues before.

Love the art style, it makes me think of wax crayons. I thought that was super nifty :)

Stable Tables by Mandytoh 2021-10-15T01:02:38Z

I love food service games, so this one was great to see! Overall I enjoyed the experience, but I did run into an issue where the food that was coming out of the kitchen didn't match the food that customers were ordering. It was a bit awkward to say the least. I really enjoyed that you had gamepad support, but the controls just didn't line up with the keyboard. I don't have a problem with tank controls specifically, but I don't know, something about the gamepad made the server teeter around like they were drunk.

In the end though, I enjoyed the game. It was pretty relaxing, and I liked the idea of balancing the food while walking around.

Unstable Isotope by Nafe 2021-10-04T01:04:16Z

This game has a lot of polish to it. I love that the player is able to turn off the music if they want to by flipping a switch on the main screen. It's always neat when your UI ends up in the environment AND it teaches people to use a switch. Super well done!

UnstableTorment by BoroBoro 2021-10-15T01:18:49Z

This game has a really neat look to it. Somewhere between hand drawn and pixels. Did you draw the score font yourself? I thought it really added something.

I love that your attributes change as you progress, becoming stronger and faster and such.

There were a couple of confusing elements, such as dying based on your rage bar. I also didn't realize that you'd heal if you fully depleted the bar too, I just read that again in your description. I'm not specifically sure how you'd communicate that to the player, but both those mechanics are quite important. Maybe some kind of visual effect or audio cue for having too much rage, like a heartbeat or the screen pulsing or something would do the trick.

Overall I quite enjoyed it!

RoughTrain by Dogez 2021-10-15T01:46:22Z

Thanks for sending your game to my stream! I enjoyed myself on the train. It was very atmospheric, quite bleak, and it left me with so many questions about the wider world of your game. It was actually really refreshing to see a narratively focused game in a jam because telling stories is just what so many games are about. I only wish that the gameplay was a bit more developed, but with such a tight deadline I know that you can't have it all.

I really liked Korvus. I haven't seen too many games here with voice-acting so it was good to see here for sure. He really felt like some poor guy who's stuck in an impossible situation and just trying to survive. Some of his lines might have felt a bit out of place when he was cracking jokes, but I like to think that's just gallows humour.

Reliable Reactors Co. by EthanZech 2021-10-03T23:09:38Z

Neat game! It's my first jam too, and I was thrilled to see somebody else made a game with Unity. I think yours is definitely more put together than mine though lol The first level seemed a touch long for my liking, that's my only criticism

Luna's Painful Pastel Promenade by GuessImLuna 2021-10-15T01:22:12Z

ARGHHHHHH I hate it so much! I'm quite bad at these games lol

I love the aesthetic which somehow made it just a bit more rage inducing. Like, everything is just so cute and cuddly looking but I just fell back to the start of the level and I'm ready to pull my hair out.

I was trying to think of where this fit into the Unstable theme when I realized that it was the player who becomes unstable.

Super good job!

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-03T23:42:25Z

@jellybean Oh yeah, they'll do that to you. The skeleton's spawn is randomized, so they could end up just about anywhere. Doesn't make it any less frustrating knowing that, but you can try to play a bit strategically by keeping a platform over your head

Sometimes they make 5d intergalactic chess moves and yeet themselves across the map at you too ;)

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-04T00:58:17Z

@mathiouza Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm trying to add a new link to this page so that you can still play the game, although it looks like the page won't update when I edit it. Here's an alternate link you can try: [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NO0IQG2R6GsKbUIeiIeKlxO5ZpzFqMiO/view?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NO0IQG2R6GsKbUIeiIeKlxO5ZpzFqMiO/view?usp=sharing)

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-04T00:59:48Z

Thanks for the feedback @spacespytv In addition to being my first jam, this is also my first platformer and I'm sure it shows. The jumping is, as you say, quite floaty, and I also feel like the player is probably sliding around too much. Feels kind of like old school ice levels

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-04T11:55:10Z

I go to bed, and I come back and MOAR PEOPLE have played my game! This is exciting!

@cirno I'm glad somebody likes the whistling, feedback on that is decidedly mixed. In fact, on subsequent plays, I'm not sure how I feel about it myself - but I did want to challenge myself by making all the sounds for the game with my face. I'm sorry you had trouble with the controls, that seems to be a common theme and something I'd definitely want to improve on in my next game.

@swen That's a good idea to include a restart level button. When I started I wanted to make sure that I had a good user experience - I mean that's what games are all about, right? So little quality of life things like that are important to me.

@guine Thank you, I'm so happy you played my game!

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-04T15:20:35Z

@volkolak Thanks for the feedback! I definitely need to work on making tighter controls for the player

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-05T12:19:57Z

@bassilij Thank you! I was really going for a "whistle while you work" vibe

@epb9000 I won't lie, I've definitely had a few runs to see how many platforms I can destroy in a single go ;)

@fluffygamedev Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-07T14:26:29Z

@oliver-richmeier I'm glad you like the concept! In hindsight, a safe spawning zone definitely should have been a priority, or maybe at least giving the player invulnerability for a brief period on spawn

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-07T18:45:56Z

@nikaz Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it

@be3n2 Thanks! I love particle effects. Unity has made them quite easy to just throw into a game, although I was pretty intimidated by their particle systems at first. Somewhere I got into my head that particles == instantly juicy game, which may not be strictly true but I definitely have fun playing with them

@srynetix Thanks for the praise, and I hope it's the first of many jams!

In my head canon, the milkman burst into bottles because the skeletons desire nothing more than his sweet, bone-strengthening juice. They tear into him until nothing is left except for milk - the one elixir that can stave off the pain of being dead. Similarly, even the bravest milkman can stand tall only so long along these grim specters of death. Even whistling a jaunty tune isn't enough to steel one's heart against the cold terror of these revenants. And so, upon making a successful delivery, he yeets his milk near to the addressee and escapes into the dubious safety of the night.

And then from a more practical standpoint, I'm a lazy dev and thought I could get away with recycling my particles

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-08T01:10:06Z

@eyedromeda Thanks for the feedback! The harshest criticisms that I've received have definitely been around the movement system, which tells me that I should have spent more time on making the player feel nicer.

It's great to hear that you picked up on the difficulty curve and strategic options, because that's exactly what I was going for. I drew some inspiration from retro games like Frogger and Burger Time where on the surface everything is reactive, but you actually want to be a bit more proactive to go far

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-08T15:08:21Z

@dragonsheep Thanks, I'm glad you found the mechanic interesting!

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-08T22:27:25Z

@tigerfinch Thanks for the feedback! It definitely would be a good idea to separate the death animation from the victory animation. I had spent some time thinking of a middle ground where I would only need one animation - especially given that I'm not very confident in my art - but in hindsight I think it has more potential to confuse the player than anything else.

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-10T15:02:52Z

@trexxak Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm really glad you liked the mashup of milkmen and skeletons.

On subsequent plays I admit that it can be unclear whether you've won or lost at the end of each round. Maybe instead of bursting apart I could have used fireworks, or a little dance or something

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-13T21:48:04Z

@boroboro Thanks for the feedback! I do find the game to be pretty difficult myself: my hiscore is only 5. I was hoping to make a challenge, but I think I might have erred on the side of difficulty over experience.

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-15T19:25:31Z

@mavvy Thanks for playing! I'm glad it stood out to you. I really enjoyed making the sound effects, it felt super goofy in the moment but I'm glad they turned out. I have been getting a good deal of feedback on the win/death animation. There could definitely have been more done to differentiate the two, and make winning a round feel better

@keichits Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it! I find the praise of the music really interesting because it seems such a divisive thing. People either love it or hate it I guess lol

Vitamin D-Ficient by BougieBirdie 2021-10-19T03:39:10Z

@foxtrot-roger Thanks, I hope it's the first of many!

@basset-romain Thanks for the feedback! I was trying to find the spot between "a little slide" and "ice level," and I think I went a little bit too far into ice level

Granny's Porcelain Tower by Njitnelav 2021-10-15T01:13:17Z

You really hit the theme here, and your game was quite relaxing.

I did run into a couple of issues though. The tower you get vases from was quite tall, and scrolling all the way up and down to grab another vase felt pretty tedious. It did feel bad when I was trying to rush back down with a new vase only to smash it against the ground before I could see the bottom. Then again, that very well could have been the point to just slow down and take stock of the situation.

I noticed the cursor hides behind some of your UI elements. That's not really a game-breaking issue, but since you said you were new to Unity you might be able to fix that by changing the Z position of the cursor, or it's layer. I'm not sure specifically which, it would depend on your implementation.

Anyhow, for a first ever game, this is super well done. You should be quite proud!

I can't put my finger on it exactly, but this game makes me very nostalgic for browser games of the 00's

I did have an issue a couple of times where I was trying to attack an enemy and clicked right at the end of the round. Twice I managed to buy an upgrade without being able to look at them. Maybe if there was a brief delay between the end of the round and when the upgrades become selectable then that wouldn't have been an issue for me.

Great game!

Don`t Sleep by Plepletier 2022-04-08T23:32:16Z

This game is super cute. I feel kind of bad hitting the sheep because of the sound they make, but it's just so polished!

I did run into an issue where I couldn't place structures sometimes. I'm not 100% sure why either, I seemed to have enough stars. Maybe there was something colliding and I just didn't know

Fun game!

Censor by Kurakurture 2022-04-05T15:15:52Z

The use of Wombo to generate your art is really interesting. And then assembling everything into a papercraft style gives you this really unique look - I've never seen anything like it - and it's quite charmingly grotesque.

My first entry into the game was a little confusing because I didn't realize I had to talk to the king to get my first bounty. I think if the player started the game in conversation with the king it would have been less confusing, at least in my case.

The wise old man was great when he says you should stand up to the king, but maybe you don't know how, because that's exactly how I felt. I'm not sure if that was supposed to be so meta, but it felt that way to me.

The Short Dark by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2022-04-08T23:58:47Z

I'm a big fan of the Long Dark (one of my country's greatest cultural exports), so I was excited to give your game a try

The minimalist art style is great, and it's a great look for a top-down perspective. It really helped make this game your own, which is something I've always worried about when I make a 'clone'

I seemed to hit the edge of the world, so I'm guessing this was a curated experience. I'd be really interested to see an endless mode with procedural generation - this is the kind of game I'm a sucker for

Edit: This is rendered with CSS!? Holy crap you madlads lol

Don't Fall Asleep! by Number6406 2022-04-05T20:30:14Z

Do it for doggo 10/10

Your game was a blast! I wish coding and solving bugs was like this irl

Wither by Marc Grabow 2022-04-05T15:59:36Z

I feel attacked, I can't keep a plant alive to save my life and it looks like this game is no exception

Going into the game I was expecting a chill game about gardening, but it seems that wasn't the case. It's surprisingly frantic - which goes against the norms of most farming games I've played. That said, it works very well and I really enjoyed it.

I liked that I could queue my moves, it was really handy when there's so much running around to do. I did get myself unfortunately stuck one time when I clicked on a plant too many times trying to figure it out. The player just got stuck in a loop watering it a dozen times because I was too eager to click. It also wasn't very clear at first that I could switch my equipped tool by returning to the tools table.

There's a lot of character in your shop descriptions. The best watering can being the BFWC was a fun little easter egg!

Jimbert the Senator Commits Tax Fraud by notApollogising 2022-04-07T22:28:06Z

At first I thought it was whacky enough that Jimbert won as an independent, then I saw it was setup for scathing commentary of the first-past-the-post system

I regret to inform you that the mythical h button has returned in the web version, but I still had fun!

Pachinko is Life by Don Fouts 2022-04-14T00:30:11Z

What an absurd game, I love it!

The ending seemed very abrupt - was it supposed to be? I was just minding my own business playing pachinko when the game declared I had delayed 7 days. I guess I was expecting one last event, or a message saying that I was selected to be sacrificed or something.

Outrun the future by Sibi 2022-04-18T23:15:27Z

The bloom might have been a bit much for me, but the visuals were still totally rad.

I really liked it! It's got a lot of mood and really nails that vaporwave aesthetic. The game felt pretty relaxed, but it very quickly became frantic. It really is just a matter of time until you wipe out.

Bonanananza by shieldgenerator7 2022-04-05T20:53:46Z

This game is bananas! :monkey:

I thought it was neat that you let the player choose whether to tap or hold to charge their weapon. Then the swarm of monkeys that came in was completely unreal and I had to just mash the shoot button anyway.

I thought the storyboard to explain the story was very clever. However, it is quite long and on subsequent playthroughs I'd probably like to skip it, or at least go through it at my own pace. Then again, I'm glad to see that Big Ape gets his banana in the end

Significant Other(s) by vilix64 2022-04-06T22:58:23Z

What a neat concept! I like that the map is really too large to look at everything at once, so you have to have a pretty good idea where people are going rather than watching the entire world. The decision to gradually introduce the map is a good one too - the game quickly becomes overwhelming so it's good to give the player some time to get a feel for the game.

I think my only gripe is with the coloured icons for the various partners. I had read the directions to not let two partners of the same colour meet, but had assumed that meant their overall colour scheme - like what colour shirt they were wearing. It did quickly become apparent, but I felt it had potential for confusion.

Starline Rescue Squad by tigerj 2022-04-05T20:43:20Z

This game vibes hard, well done!

The controls are real touchy, but once you get a feel for them it's not too bad at all

Apocalyptic Romance by Shakedimus 2022-04-06T21:55:36Z

Even in the apocalypse, creeps be creeping smh

This game feels like a fever dream, and I mean that in the best possible way

Slime Showdown by ToC 2022-04-05T14:02:38Z

What a great game!

You've got a really good loop here, every time I thought I was getting too strong or the game was too easy it would throw a new curveball with enemy variations or the toxic clouds - really kept me on my toes!

The skeleton mage is my favorite mob and I'm a little disappointed that they didn't have any recolored variants like the other enemies did. Then again, when Papa Slime starts shooting back I suppose you don't need the enemy mage anymore.

When things started to get a little frantic it was sometimes hard to look away from what was going on to check if I could afford the next upgrade I needed. If the player can afford an upgrade, you might be able to give its border a soft glow or pulse or something so the player can see it from their peripheral. The coloured text helps, but I still have to look away to check it.

Overall your game is very stylish and I'm glad I got a chance to play it!

Slime Showdown by ToC 2022-04-05T15:19:31Z

@ruud-cremers Dang it, I guess that's what I get for being too good at video games ;) I'll have to replay it just so I can see my best boy

Panic at the Museum by James Beninger 2022-04-08T23:46:38Z

This game about saving art is art.

I wasn't sure if the fire extinguisher did anything to reduce my Danger Level, but it was certainly helpful for getting around some hazards.

I really liked this, it gave off like a gameboy colour vibe

I'm on a boat - Anxiety Simulator by Sopata 2022-04-21T15:18:52Z

Oh my goodness I love this! It's frantic, the soundtrack is an excellent complement, and I love the characters.

It's tough making a game where you control two characters at once, but I think you struck the right balance of keeping the events simple enough to manage. The inclusion of both character-specific tasks as well as repairs being accomplished by either character does a lot to help this. I think with some more development I'd love to see this as a multiplayer couch co-op game!

The Titanic event was 10/10. Took me completely by surprise

I see from the other feedback that other people have already reported this, but I'd just like to mention that Steam VR also interrupted the game on launch. It's wild to me that it must be a default setting in UE4, but hey, that's development for you.

Tick by ChewieCB 2022-04-06T22:40:23Z

This game is just so wonderfully dystopian. It's my favourite of the jam so far!

There's so many neat things to call out I don't even know where to begin. The level design was great, there were plenty of loops to zip around in. The sound track using POS register/pinpad sounds was inspired. The dialogue and news ticker were great too: love the guy who had to get the same brand lungs because he already has that brand's heart.

I think the only gripe I have is that I never felt like I was going to run out of time. Maybe if each delivery awarded you more time, with diminishing returns or something like that. Basically the Crazy Taxi formula.

I also wish I had enough time to pull myself up by the bootstraps and buy my heart outright - then again, the next firmware update would probably make it too slow. Planned obsolescence is a helluva drug

Row With the Flow by VeniTheRich 2022-04-14T00:45:03Z

I love that you had the forethought to include the calibration page, it's great for accessibility and really above and beyond what I'd typically expect to see in a jam.

The sound track is pretty groovy. The game has a good vibe

The Pit by Itskdog 2022-04-18T17:41:47Z

What a neat game!

It took a little while for it to click with me, but after the first run was over and realizing you could continue playing with your same deck really opened up the game for me. It's a pretty simple way to get that rogue-lite mechanic of becoming stronger with each rebirth. Once the game became about making the best deck possible instead of getting the most coins in a run I started to really enjoy it!

Thanks for entering this, I had a lot of fun with it

Biscuit Brawl by mcshirt 2022-04-14T01:08:51Z

Oh my goodness this game is cute! I think the only thing it's missing is sound effects and music, and then I could play this all day.

As a minor usability thing, I'd expect the Retry button to take me back to the start of the scene instead of the title screen. I'd also somewhat expect to be able to use the arrow keys in place of WASD, but it didn't diminish my enjoyment any!

Delaying the Waking World by EOShadows 2022-04-06T21:09:49Z

This game is gorgeous, it's quite cute, and I can't decide if the soundtrack makes me feel relaxed or anxious (I swear that's a good thing)

Sometimes the player is too slow to dodge enemies, which is somewhat frustrating, but overall it was an enjoyable experience

Sky Shepherd by Teto 2022-04-15T00:10:42Z

This is a nice, simple game. It's got a really calming vibe, and the rotation makes for a deceptively complex puzzle.

I have to confess, I initially thought the objective was to match sheep by colour - but as far as I can tell the colour doesn't make much difference. I did see there's a help menu that explains this, but I didn't find it until after my first round. I think I was expecting to see the instructions on the start page, so I didn't think to look for it.

Either way, I really enjoyed it!

Herbert vs Homework by Str8griz 2022-04-06T21:34:45Z

I did everything in my power to help the poor lad keep his video game privileges, but it was soon out of my hands

I did run into some issues where enemies were spawning inside me, which felt unfair to lose a life to. Maybe if there was some detection to make sure they spawn away from the player, or else a grace period when enemies spawn would be nice. The sound effect for receiving damage was also quite subtle, I didn't realize I was being hurt half the time.

All that said though, I love the vibe and I had a blast playing! I'm going to have "Mama mia! PBBTTBBTTTB" stuck in my head all night now

Stone Sabbath by Caladrius 2022-04-15T00:02:31Z

Holy cow, I'm blown away by the size of the map. What an impressive world to build for three days. The graphics and audio are super charming, overall I'm very impressed.

I liked the inclusion of what I'm assuming are your portraits as easter eggs. I only found two, but one of them even talked back!

I knew nothing about Cornish mythology going in, so I'm glad you included a bestiary too. It's always neat when games have lore in them, so it's a welcome surprise to find in a jam game.

Doomsday Deviant's Date by ProbeProb 2022-04-05T14:53:46Z

This was a fun game, trying to stop the apocalypse so you can get on with your date is very Little Nicky. The music and mischievous snickering really sell the mood.

When fixing a hydrant, the confirm button pops up to get you to click on it. Something about clicking that button takes me out of the game. I can't put my finger on it exactly, I think it's probably because I'm in such a rush to go to the next thing, but then I have to fiddle with the UI.

I really enjoyed it!

Somnipathy by Cyzaine 2022-04-18T18:03:27Z

Whoa, what a fever dream.

I'm the kind of person who definitely struggles with revenge bedtime procrastination, so Aggy's struggle really hits close to home. And there's something special about the important things that still need to be done often being things like updating your dating profile or liking a photo. Maybe it's just a joke, but it also feels like a critique of these artificial deadlines and pressures we put on ourselves.

I'm a big fan of nightmare fuel and creature features, so kudos to whoever designed the sleep demon. That's going to live with me rent-free for a while

I like what you did with the game over screen. My initial reaction was, "dang it, I lost," but then I saw the screen says, "you win." I think that's really nice, and it comes away with a positive message. So I guess never mind the leaderboards, the best way to play this game is to just go straight to bed.

Thanks for letting me play your game. I really needed it.

Hapman 🍩 The Inevitable by hilkojj 2022-04-08T23:39:11Z

Holy crap, what a game! You've clearly put a lot of thought into this, and the technical hoops you've had to jump through are truly impressive. I like your note about casting shadows in the direction of gravity. It's such a seemingly little thing, but I can't imagine how difficult it would be to navigate without it.

Great job!

Ejected! by Spaint 2022-04-07T22:52:44Z

The game is way deeper than I first thought, and I was blown away by the depth in settings page. Much more polished than a typical jam game!

I didn't have 7-zip on this computer, so I had to install a program just to extract it. That might be a barrier to some players

IBYH!? by Trabasura 2022-04-06T21:22:03Z

I'm so bad at this game, but I don't even care because it vibes hard

I don't know if the dog can finish the cat level. Which, if intentional, might secretly be brilliant

The Final Clue by mirianbr 2022-04-14T00:58:32Z

Whoa, what a unique experience. You don't really expect to see a visual novel in a jam, and the time pressure is quite interesting. The text made me want to read it, but the timer kept me pressured to read as quickly as I could. It's quite anxiety inducing - which might be the point given you're trying to get away with something illegal. I could see this format working quite well for a thriller or horror story.

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-05T13:44:42Z

Thanks to everyone who's played the game already! I wasn't expecting to wake up the morning after and see that we've already got feedback

@toc I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'd like to be able to say that the grating-ness of the death sound was intentional, but that wasn't the case. Some variety there would be good, especially since we have some distinction between different enemy appearances. I think we simply found the 'perfect' sound effect and never considered how it would sound after it's been played a thousand times

@sega23333 Thanks for playing! I'm sorry the theme didn't jive with you, but if you have some specific feedback I'd be happy to hear it

@dogesquad I'm glad we could get you hooked for a while! I think mechanically the game is a little too simple. We've only done a couple of jams as a team, so we're still trying to find what works. This time around we told ourselves we'd keep our scope really limited and then work on polishing for the rest of our time. I think it was a good strategy overall, but it really limited us in what we could include in the basic loop

@kurakurture Thanks for your kind words! In our original concept we gave the player a real shotgun. Sometime later we decided the enemy should be able to storm off in a huff - after all that's a total Karen move :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-05T14:06:16Z

@sega23333 Ahh, I get you. Thanks for the quick reply

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-05T20:20:03Z

@number6406 Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm never too sure about balance whether I'm making it too hard or not, but it seems like it worked for you

@laurens Thanks for the feedback, I'll pass it along to our artist. I'm glad you got a laugh out of it!

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-06T20:35:28Z

Holy crap this is a lot of feedback! I hope I don't forget anybody

@mogmi I'm glad you liked it! Even if someone else reported an issue with the sound effects, I still want to hear what you think. After all, getting better at making games is kinda the whole point

@eoshadows I'm glad you got a kick out of it! The text that appears over the Karens is like a cartoon curse string: "#@&!" or something to that effect. Like the vitriol of an enraged Karen, you're not meant to pay them too much heed. However, for your own satisfaction I've dug up the sprite:

Fork.png

@arianad  This is for you too. I'm really glad you enjoyed it, it's a tough line to walk between making a character annoying enough to want to fight them, but not so annoying you don't want to play the game

@hcs-hades Thanks! I'll pass that along to our artist

@soe At least he'll lend me his PTO next year when I need a break... right? Thanks for playing!

@lachlan-james Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the upgrade system, and I definitely agree about the sound effects. You're also spot-on about our work history: all three of us are retail veterans and I'm sure you can tell we're over it

@noiyy Throwing the cans back at you is a total Karen move, and now I'm sorry I didn't think of it

@iamwave It's funny you mention that because our very original idea was going to be zombies, so I guess the bones of the game didn't really change when we adjusted our idea. Or maybe a Karen *is* just a lot like a zombie: >It can't be reasoned with, it can't be bargained with. It doesn't feel pity of remorse or fear and it absolutely will not stop. Ever.

@viho I've always found the balancing to be the toughest part of any game, and this one really was no exception. The rate of fire is a bit of a tricky one for me because if it's too quick then there isn't a lot of point in upgrading it - but if it's too slow then it ceases to be fun anymore. I thought I walked that line, but I guess I fell a little short. And you're definitely right about the enemy spawn curve - it's more of a cliff than a curve

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-07T21:35:41Z

@confidant17 What a missed opportunity, they definitely should have been able to talk back to you. Thanks for playing!

@projectunfun That might be the nicest thing somebody's said about something I've worked on. Thank you so much!

@gdesecrate You're most welcome, thanks for playing!

@notapollogising I agree we definitely could have had more depth. Our original take on 'Delay the Inevitable' was going to be an ever increasing horde of enemies until, basically, they blot out the map. We definitely ran into some performance concerns that made the game decidedly unfun though, so we had to abandon that. In hindsight, we could have pivoted to add some new feature, or else maybe we could have given a level limit with a game over animation (imagine a literal tide of Karens washing over you :grimacing: ).

@marc-grabow Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it

@kro I'm glad you liked the design, thanks for playing!

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-08T23:12:29Z

@cody-holt Thank you, I enjoyed recording them!

@pequi Thanks for playing, I'm glad you had a good time

@hilkojj We figured we'd start off strong. Actually, I wanted to learn a new skill, so I thought I'd take a crack at a timeline animation in Unity. As someone who thinks they're really bad at animations, I'm glad it was well received

@reneantunes The multi-kill is particularly satisfying for me. It feels quite skillful to get 2-3 enemies per shot in the early waves, and then suddenly you're blasting a dozen enemies at once when you're fully upgraded. Thanks for playing!

@physcokillermonkey We wanted to keep a 'customers served' count, but had to abandon it due to time. Regardless, I'm glad you gave as good as you got!

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-13T22:21:17Z

Thanks everyone for playing the game! I'm delighted to have received so much feedback, and I'm sorry it's taken so long to get to all of you: life's been happening

@sodoj There is no ammo system, frankly I'm baffled. The rate of fire upgrade is supposed to make the weapon shoot faster. I haven't been able to reproduce this yet so it's still a bit of a melon scratcher. Thanks for the report though, I really appreciate it!

@marvis By 'quick reload' did you mean to be able to restart the game? We tried to take usability seriously so I'm surprised we missed that. Thanks for playing!

@lpettler Lining up the shots is my favorite mechanic too. If we had more time, I think collectible powerups would have been on the table - I'm all about that risk/reward so I would have liked to see it too. Thanks for playing!

@flyingkaida Thank you so much! I'm glad you had fun with it

@ruud-cremers You're probably spot on there. We have pretty limited hardware for performance testing, so I'm not too surprised that it lags out on some machines. The way that we're managing enemies under the hood also isn't very effecient - I'm kind of surprised it runs as well as it does. :stuck_out_tongue: Still, thanks for letting us know, it gives me something to think about, and I'm glad you enjoyed the game up until then!

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-14T23:33:18Z

Every day I come on here and see that more people have played our game makes me so happy

@ldjq We had experimented with different scaling of damages, along with the rates of fire, angles of spread, and such. Several people have remarked on the low rate of fire, so I guess we erred on the wrong side of that. However, I'm so glad our game is considered one of your favorites, that's a great honour! Thanks for playing!

@polite-stories Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it

@teto Thank you so much for such a detailed review! I can tell that you've had a good time with the game and it really warms my heart. That's a good catch about not being able to mute the sound outside of the start screen. I think we probably could have done better to indicate what exactly the mute button does, and that could have been as simple as including the music on the start screen - that's definitely something I'll be keeping an eye out for the future. Thanks for playing!

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-18T17:26:17Z

Thanks so much for playing our game, gang!

@itskdog I agree that we could use a little more - always leave them wanting more. Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed it until you ran out of content

@cyzaine You know it's high praise when someone with a PaRappa pfp comments on the voice work  We had considered an in-game kill count with personal high scores but had to scrap it for time. Combos never crossed our mind though - and a combo based on enemy type is something really interesting too! I think that would have given us something fairly unique to offer and now I'm kicking myself for not having thought of it. Thanks for playing

@don-fouts Interestingly, the multiple types of Karens come from necessity - our artist had a very limited time commitment they could give to the jam, so we elected to use palette-swaps to give us some more variety. I'm so glad that was enough to give the game a bit more variety, or at least a pop of colour. Thanks for playing!

@piscythe Management has been made aware of time-warping reality bending related to serving too many customers at once. After an internal investigation, management has decided that these infractions of reality do not constitute unsafe working conditions. Moreover, management would like to remind employees that their employment agreement assures wages are paid according to the central company clock, and not based on relative experiences of time. (Thanks for playing!)

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-18T23:05:55Z

@vixenmink Thanks for playing! The inclusion of Kevins would be grand, I have an idea what they'd look like since I've met a few in my career.

I'm really taken with the idea of the music reaching a higher point the more enemies are present. Sound design is such an important part of the experience, and we've had some discussions about adding dynamic elements to our games' soundtracks. Unfortunately, we kind of lack the expertise to actually implement them - but we're getting there!

@prismapunch Thanks for playing! We tried our best to make it fun

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-21T15:07:39Z

@sopata We didn't enforce boundaries on the playing field in part because stepping outside the boundary might save you in a pinch. We thought of it as high-risk for a reward, but with the Karens living just off-screen you're right that it's a bit cheap you can just be killed in one hit by something you can't see. Technically the arena is infinite, so if you can make it past the Karen spawn zone you are free to frolic to your heart's content - not that you can actually see any of that frolicking.

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to play it more than once

Dawn of the Karen by BougieBirdie 2022-04-21T15:35:53Z

@sopata Oh, now that's a good idea. I wish I'd thought of that, it would have been quite simple to implement

Fate's Flower by Prismapunch 2022-04-20T17:15:07Z

I like your style, it makes me think of a very cute dark souls. Then the rooms and destructible light sources make me think Castlevania. You can tell there's some influence there and I'm for it.

I think my only criticism is how floaty the character feels. I think part of it is that the character always jumps as high as they possibly can - if it was bound to how long the player held the jump key for it might feel more intuitive.

All in all, it's a solid entry!

Caterpillar by LDJQ 2022-04-14T23:40:48Z

Mr. Psychologist by Arthemy 2022-04-05T14:35:44Z

This is a really neat concept for a game - vicarious trauma is a real occupational hazard for people in social work. So even though the tone is a dark sort of humour, it can get you thinking about that kind of thing.

I was a little disappointed that there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what response I gave would get a positive reaction - maybe that's a larger statement about providing therapy, but as a player I was hoping to have some idea what the 'right' answer would be.

I think the idle animation of the player is supposed to be a restless pensiveness, but they were fidgeting so much I couldn't help but think they had to go to the bathroom. Maybe a pause between changing poses would help mitigate that.

Using the portrait to show the player's health is a great way of showing their state. Because it's so subjective, the player doesn't know exactly how bad their state is, just that it's not good or quite bad - and that can increase the tension. The corruption of the soundtrack was also a neat addition, I love seeing that in games!

Darko by Sodoj 2022-04-13T23:21:06Z

I like the game, it takes a while to really figure out the movement, but once you do you get this really interesting flow. It's a delight to zip around from enemy to enemy without touching the ground.

The 2D-in-3D style is really cool, and it works great with the monochrome theme. My only complaint is that when looking up at enemies it can be hard to see them. Maybe they would need to rotate to always face the player to mitigate that, but then again it might also look kind of weird.

My high score is 666, at which point I felt I had figured out the game and surrendered to the abyss. Thanks for making such a neat game, I really enjoyed it!

@blizzsuxx Oh man, that's great. I thought it was a funny coincidence when I got that text, I didn't think it was intentional :smiling_imp:

Mr. Second by Marvis 2022-04-14T00:08:40Z

Your game looks and sounds great, but the difficulty curve seems very intense. The enemies also blend with or look similar to the environment, particularly the saw blades / gears.

Overall I enjoyed it though! It's a surprisingly difficult puzzle platformer, and the rewind mechanic is quite interesting.

Snowcastle Meltdown by Noiyy 2022-04-06T22:46:59Z

I spent far too long looking for water before realizing I had to talk to the NPCs for it. Then I see in the description I just didn't read about it

Fun game!

The Wrong Side of The Rhine by ProjectUnfun 2022-04-07T21:57:24Z

Fun game! I liked that you can get a little bit tactical with how you move into enemies to take the least damage. The lifesteal was also welcome, it let the game be a little forgiving of some mistakes the player makes.

The introduction is super intense and moody. Really showing off how much mileage you can get out of text, music, and a few jpgs.

TEST TECH S.A.Your expiration is inevitable. by Confidant17 2022-04-07T21:47:15Z

Super cool game, with sound effects that sound like they're right out of Gundam Wing. SCHWING!!

The only improvement I could think of would be the UI - when the player loses one of their controls I didn't even realize until near the end that it was shown in the corner of the screen. Maybe something like a big red X covering the broken control

Awesome job!

THE EXIT WILL CLOSE by Tyler Walton 2022-04-08T23:25:00Z

Holy crap, the 'Behind you' level might be the greatest challenge of my life. Huge dopamine burst for finishing that one!

I'm a huge fan of Frogger, so I was thrilled to see the inspired levels. I did find it a bit odd that the player doesn't move with the logs. It increased the challenge, but it felt unintuitive. I think if you want the player to expect they won't stick to the platform, you might be able to give it an icy texture or something to communicate that before the player commits to the jump.

I had a lot of fun!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

You've Got Mail! by Sheepolution 2022-10-06T20:22:17Z

Very challenging but funny game! I loved that the music changed in response to how many strikes I had, it definitely helped make things feel more frantic. This game has such a great sense of humour, the hardest part about trying to skim the emails is that you kind of want to read them fully too!

Also I read your readme lol

Impending Doom of a Thousand Kitties by RalfZ 2022-10-05T12:51:51Z

A game where you fail if a cat hasn't been fed for several seconds? Are you sure you're not my cat? Great game! Super cute, I loved the digital meows and just the whole look of it. I agree with other comments suggesting to make scruffing easier. Maybe left click to feed and right click to scruff. As it was, I was sort of just left to madly click the feed button as quickly as I could (but maybe that's the point too)

10 Second Boss by coatline 2022-10-06T23:23:23Z

What a fun little game! I like that all the weapons had their own personality, and I especially love that the sound effects appear to have been made with love

There's something so satisfying about a tetris game where you can squash/explode zombies. Great job! I really enjoyed myself  score.png

Garden Panic by barret 2022-10-06T19:59:51Z

Such a satisfying game. I really like the art direction, the palette and sprites make me think of something like a ColecoVision game. The background music was good too, I really liked that it transitioned between different menus and actions.

I loved the little guys who were stealing my veggies, they were super cute! I kind of forgot that they were technically enemies though, because I thought them clearing out the weeds was actually kind of useful. It was like they were helping me.

I did run into a bug where WASD controls didn't work when defending the shed - I couldn't aim the gun without the arrow keys which is unfortunate because my keyboard didn't have any. Fortunately I was able to get a gamepad plugged in before I lost too much health

Also, after reading the personal note you posted above: I also develop games with my wife, so I'm glad you two are getting a chance to too! It's super exciting to be able to make a game with someone you love and then share that experience with the world. I hope this is the first game of many for you two!

Suuuper moody game with pleasing visuals and music. I especially like that rising tone that plays just before the world shifts, it hits just right :ok_hand:

I like just about any game with walljumping and I'm pleasantly surprised to see yours included it. It's was pretty tricky to actually stick to the wall though, it felt like maybe it needs some coyote time. I would have loved to see a screen at the end with my final score on it.

Great job!

Thornscatter by KeithSwanger 2022-10-06T20:34:30Z

Such a pretty game, with soothing background music that belies how difficult it is. Or maybe I'm just really bad at it. Either way, the weapon also creating deadly thorns felt quite unforgiving. I feel like I would have struggled less if the thorns were created further away from myself, or if the weapon had some more range to it or something.

Either way, I did thoroughly enjoy it, and I'm glad I stuck through to the end. It felt like a game that was more about strategizing where you were going to be every ten seconds rather than simply slashing through a maze. Great job!

Sweet Seconds by Jag 2022-10-04T02:01:59Z

This game is so freakin' hard, I love it! I only got to stage 5 before my brain melted, I'll have to come back and finish it later!

The stars in the eyes and the "every ten seconds" is just *chef's kiss*

Imminent by T90. 2022-10-04T14:48:23Z

This game gives me Missile Command vibes, really great mood, you nailed it! The game was a bit confusing to learn how to play. It took me a while to realize where my cone of fire was. I also ran into this strange bug where it appears that enemies would not be cleaned up after they were destroyed. I could still select them, but I couldn't shoot at them. It definitely made such a stressful game more overwhelming  imminent-screen.png

Hoooooly crap this game is stressful! Poor Katie :(

You mentioned that you thought our game was similar, and I'd have to agree. You've perfectly captured the feeling of the stressed out service worker that we were going for. Well done!

Decrypt by Gabriel Chan 2022-10-04T02:21:57Z

Whoa, such a cool game! I love word games but it's so rare to have one that feels stressful. It's really unique, great job!

Unfortunately I ran into a bug on Stage 3. I had selected the hack which hides everything except for the bottom row, but it decided to just hide everything lol decrypt_screen_covered.png

Decrypt by Gabriel Chan 2022-10-04T02:55:48Z

@chan-gim Oh yeah, of course. The first one made it so the last letter was always in the correct position, and the second hack was to instantly drop the word

Four Cents by BougieBirdie 2022-10-04T01:37:21Z

@brandsma Thanks for the feedback, I agree that it needs some more tutorial. We ran into some issues with crunch and couldn't even manage an instructions screen

@jag I try to play everyone who comment's games anyway, but I took a sneak peek at yours and omg it looks cute! It's going right to the top of my list!

@stalemeat The developer high score isn't great, so I'd wager we're both horrible baristas  Thanks for playing!

@mrbamboo Thank you, and thanks for playing!

@t90 The learning curve is designed so the training wheels come off at high speed lol. The system behind generating the customer orders is not very advanced. We manually softball a few simple orders and then all bets are off. I'd love to have a more gradual learning curve but I'm afraid there just wasn't time to fine-tune it. Anyhow, thanks for playing, I really appreciate your feedback

@okshirl Thanks for your feedback! Your comment really made me think about how the UI could be cleaned up - it really dominates the screen to the detriment of the look of the game. Thanks for playing!

@rowen After they got rid of the other baristas, corporate started looking for ways to minimize the kitchen footprint. Thanks for playing!

Thanks everyone for playing our game on the first day!

@yoko-san It seems like a few people have had that issue with taking orders. We definitely should have thought more about that, them's the breaks. Thanks for playing!

@bredera Chaos is exactly what we were going for, so I'm glad we hit the mark. Thanks for playing!

@nataku92 It's funny you mention not being able to view the art, because my all-time favourite cooking game (Cook, Serve, Delicious) suffers from this same thing. The game gets too intense to appreciate it, and that game has some of the best looking food in a cooking game. Moving the buttons to the player's location I think would help mitigate that for sure, and it'd clean up the UI a heck of a lot. Thanks for playing!

@braiizen Thanks for your feedback! A few people have noted the same issue with taking the orders being confusing. We definitely need to consider how to improve that. Thanks for playing!

Thanks everyone for playing so far!

@shimmerscale We've been hearing a lot that the way the player takes orders is unintuitive. We're planning some change to the UI to help steer them in the right direction, and those are some great tips we can follow. Thanks for playing!

@strong99 I wouldn't feel too bad, I can't make over $0.80 myself. Thanks for playing!

@chase-of-bass Thank you so much for your feedback! And thanks for playing too!

@durkagames That's a good idea, it'd be nice to have some kind of scoring separate from the sheer number of customers served. After all, not all of their drinks are equal in complexity. Thanks for playing!

@coatline Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@sephowepho I'm kicking myself a bit because a lives counter was in the works. Unfortunately we ran out of time before the jam's deadline. Rest assured though, we have a couple of other things we wanted to include too, so you might see something in a future update. Thanks for playing!

Four Cents by BougieBirdie 2022-10-07T14:09:10Z

@bison-warlock Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed the barista's design. We would have loved to include something for the NPCs as well, unfortunately we had to cut off our artist when there was only 15 minutes left in the jam

@twowolf Holy crap, I can't imagine getting $10. You must have coffee shop experience, very well done! Unfortunately, there is no way to clear your cup other than to serve it to a customer. It's quite unforgiving, but maybe including a trash bin or sink would make the player's life easier  Thanks for playing!

Thanks everyone for playing over the weekend! Sorry if I didn't get back to you right away, it's Canadian Thanksgiving and I've been in a turkey coma.

@mikkyti Thanks for playing! We enjoy the colours too

@goateejoe I don't know if it's just because I hate myself, but I love me a stressful game. Thanks for playing!

@xcarl This is an interesting idea to see what's in the cup. On the one hand, I'd like to know myself too, because that's definitely an ease of access thing. Thanks for playing, you've given me something to think about!

@rosymaple I also have a hard time reading the orders, I'm going to squint myself into blindness if I'm not careful. We're planning some UI reworks, and I'm looking to see if I can get the text bigger so I can play my own game :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks for playing!

Four Cents by BougieBirdie 2022-10-21T17:55:33Z

Betrayed by greenphox 2022-10-09T18:01:26Z

I like the way you approached the theme. You do a lot with just a couple of colours and simple shapes, I'm really quite impressed.

The only critique I have is about the difficulty curve. The game seems almost trivial until suddenly a kajillion triangles are spawning at once. I think tweaking the fire rate on friendly triangles might help, it seems quite fast and can destroy an entire cycle's enemies in a few seconds.

Great entry! I really enjoyed myself

Morning Coffee Hit by chybby 2022-10-05T12:43:34Z

I feel so embarrassed to have also made a barista game and be so bad at yours  Great game! It gets overwhelming very quickly, but there's just something so satisfying about yeeting coffee at people!

Workshift by Arihan10 2022-10-05T23:13:16Z

Really makes me think of WarioWare. Why make one game for a jam when you can flex and make several? Great job!

To Catch a Wizard by badcop 2022-10-07T14:29:41Z

Neat game! The boss is definitely the toughest part, but I found the challenge quite satisfying.

One thing specifically that was tough about the boss was in the final phase when he launched three fireballs, one of them would sometimes end up so far beneath the level that I'd forget about it until it looped back around and got me. Maybe if the green fireballs had a time to live, or if they destroyed themselves if they got too far out of the arena that would have made things easier for me.

Also that boss is totally a sponge! A would have liked to see a healthbar for them or something so that I would have a better idea that I was hurting them. You could even fake out the player with two healthbars since you have a multi-phase boss and everything.

Thanks for the game! I had a lot of fun

A "Ding" In The Dark by yoko-san 2022-10-04T23:19:40Z

The ambience is so moody and then the second part of the game is so cute, it's such a contrast to each other. Like, the office is so moody that it's making me anxious, and the cuteness of the emails made me think something spooky was going to happen.

I'm looking forward to see what happens next!

FifteenRooms by DurkaGames 2022-10-06T22:59:07Z

What a stylish game! I love your protagonist, and just the whole look and feel of the game was kind of a trip

I ran into this bug where the text got all garbled after opening the wardrobe: 15Rooms.png

Designing the scales to weigh the heart out of a spine was super gnarly too. Well done!
