This has potential! It's an interesting idea that adds a completely different layer to the typical strategy gameplay. The music is also nice, I like how it accompanies the story. However there were some things that frustrated me a bit, like the fact that I didn't really see who is selected and who isn't, and there sometimes were some wonky collisions were my people couldn't walk past a rock or a house although there seemed to be enough space. But that's nothing a little bit of finetuning couldn't fix. Still I find it very impressive what you did in this short time! RTS games are so difficult to do in a short time, so good job!

lawrence 2021-10-06 12:32

Ok so I was building the city, had almost all types of buildings and was thinking to myself "so I guess this is it", and then... wow 😅

ladymistleaf 2021-10-06 15:09

This game is pure chaos, but in a good way! It put such a grin on my face when the enemies started spawning and the music changed accordingly. It starts out sounding calm and happy, and then, well, enemies. The mechanics are pretty good, although hates people like me who tend to select one character at a time XD. It fits the theme perfectly both in terms of physical balance and complete instability of the game world as a whole. Great game, great job!

erikengineengineer 2021-10-06 16:07

BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!

annie-owl 2021-10-07 20:41

At the moment I thought that the soundtrack is getting kinda corny and pretentious, I've got hit over the head with the :alien: That was amazing.

namnam 2021-10-07 21:27

Had to give you all my stars, so fun, so surprising. Loved it.

bougiebirdie 2021-10-07 22:15

If I had more stars to give, you'd get all of them :)

maximbegunov 2021-10-08 08:29

Hey I saw your game on stream. It was a blast, I really wanted to play it myself but it's just black screen for me after the splash screen of your team. If you fix it or create a web build could you ping me? I would check it out.

alexrose 2021-10-08 10:56

@maximbegunov Are you on Windows 7? Later Unity has a bug with the videoplayer where it crashes instantly on Windows 7 and it hasn't been fixed in 3 years, there's nothing I can do if that's the case

bluishgreenpro 2021-10-08 14:01

What are you worried about defending against? Don't worry about it ;)

chairshot-games 2021-10-09 04:33

When I saw this I thought someone had made a game just for me, and I was not disappointed at all! The gameplay was really fun and just the right amount of complexity for this type of game. Trying to balance out the city also meant some strategy was needed, which was fun. The real highlight was the music, and the moment where everything changes was probably my favorite moment of any game this jam. My only suggestion is I found it a bit hard to move the people around and ended up moving them all in a massive clump, which made it hard to get to the specific trees and stuff I needed. Really great work and this game is definitely a highlight of the jam for me, great job!

mhorth 2021-10-09 15:16

Wow! I mean right off the bat, 5 stars for audio, with enough stars to spill over into humor and mood haha. "AND THERE'S DINOSAAUUUUUUURS!" Everything else is really solid but man the soundtrack just takes the cake here.

The tree spawn animations are so bouncy, I love it! Had a lot of fun playing this one, at it actually kept me engaged and worried about how my troops were doing/where they were standing. Well done!

alexthehuman2 2021-10-09 19:50

It's an absolute banger of a game, really fun and enjoyable, I think I've played it for a good amount of time, it's just that immersive. You guys really need to give it a go. I'm a sucker for this genre and I'm glad I've played this among many other tycoon? games.

sli 2021-10-09 20:44

Wow. Pretty interesting. I enjoyed it very much. Music is definitely great, but I love the design as well. I hope you get good rank guys. I love it

pomo 2021-10-10 12:28

Dont think anything else made me laugh this hard this LD, music was also phenomenal, great job!

tricky-fat-cat 2021-10-10 13:25

Yet another hilarious game. But there is the bear?

gamepopper 2021-10-10 21:16

This was pretty calm and relaxing, then the music turned metal.

coleslaughter 2021-10-10 23:48

[Thanks for submitting your game to the stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1171489560?t=01h52m33s)

5 stars is too damn low for the audio category, this game deserves way more.

I always love it when a game manages to surprise me like this! Absolutely well done!

maximbegunov 2021-10-11 10:06

@alexrose Yep the problem was with windows 7. It ran fine on my laptop. The game was amazing. I had a lot fun and laugh! Audio is out of this world.

zimny11 2021-10-12 22:33

Well done with game concept and execution. Great audio too. I had fun playing it.

krystal-mcdonald 2021-10-14 12:01

absolutely incredible im glad i played this

brandon-hare 2021-10-14 12:02

top tier on every metric

alexrose 2021-10-14 23:28

@tricky-fat-cat he is there if you look hard enough

sheepolution 2021-10-15 22:36

That was fucking amazing.

Initially, I like the concept, and it all works fine. It's nice that you have a little tutorial at the start.

I like the music and was surprised by the singing. How interesting and sweet, I thought. And of course I was completely surprised by the second part of the song. Seeing the castle and archery range I figured there would be some kind of enemies appearing eventually, but I certainly wasn't expecting this.

Besides being hilarious the game is also a lot of fun to play. It gets real stressful when a building or two get destroyed on one side and suddenly the earth starts tipping to one side. It's kind of annoying that you constantly need to command your villagers (strategy games made me lazy and I keep forgetting the villagers stop cutting wood after 1 tree), but that all adds to the chaos so it's okay. My only real complaint would be that it's hard to click on small enemies, and I'm not always sure if I clicked correct, as my ranger sometimes walks up to a dinosaur instead of shooting at it.

Anyway, awesome game. Great job you guys!

papabirb 2021-10-17 05:15

I admit, I spoiled myself on the aliens part of the song because the link was very tempting (in that I somehow thought "unnecessary guitar playthrough" meant a playthrough using a guitar to control the game, because I like weird videos like that so that's where my mind went). What I wasn't expecting was the soft and gentle crooning for the first song. Not enough video game soundtracks utilize lyrics in a looping song, I feel like; I think I've experienced it maybe one other time, and enjoyed the- OH YES I was going to say I forgot what game it was but I remember now! I was absolute FLOORED by the first boss of Scooby-Doo: 100 Nights of Frights; the music was chill and then the lyrics came in and I was like ???? in the best possible way and THAT is exactly how *Edge of Space and Edge of Town* made me feel: ???? in the best possible way.

Specifically, it reminds me of the aforementioned Scooby-Doo video game music, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IZUe-0-b0A in that both have an amazing vibe and then lyrics show up around 20 seconds in, and manage to make looping lyrics still feel amazing; but in terms of tone, it also reminds me of the singer/songwriter they put into Dreamfall Chapters, with specifically this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CW1EM0jQTo

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is I had no idea what I was doing while I played (I understood the mechanics, but I was absolutely terrible at playing; something something controlling everyone was difficult? like I just selected everyone at once and sent them in the same direction and hoped they'd collide with whatever their job was, which only really worked for woodcutters) and there's no end state when everybody falls off the world so you can't balance it or build anything anymore and yet I spent about 5 minutes watching aliens shrink each other and the dinosaurs because I couldn't stop listening to the soundtrack of this game.

Also, your tutorial text always stays slightly visible on screen. That, or I need to check my monitor...

But yeah this was super super rad. More games should really use these soft and gentle lyrical soundtracks. You might have converted me from trying to learn how to make good chiptune music for my games to trying to learn how to write lyrics..... like, between this, the Scooby game, and the Dreamfall song, there's clearly a very specific musical aesthetic here that I am LIVING FOR.

Also, I had to google Rude Bear to understand the title/description of this game, so now I know about EGX Rezzed's game jam thing that will hopefully resume when the pandemic's over, so now I have a new life goal to go participate in that & see some youtubers I like who often do live DND at EGX. So, double thanks for this amazing soundtrack & the new life goal! Anyway, I'll just be sitting here listening to the bandcamp page for a while.....

Side note, I thought videos weren't supposed to embed if they're in another paragraph, especially wrapped in the git markup code for linking stuff, but unless the preview is lying to me, then enjoy not having to go to another tab I guess, lol.

papabirb 2021-10-17 10:15

Okay I had time to get over the amazing music.

Gameplay wise:

Why do windmills make stone cutters? It's not clear in general what anything after house does, since the tutorial doesn't go that far. (I did read the description, but it's still not intuitive in-game).

The lack of a win state or lose state is conflicting: on the one hand, I like just listening to the music until I decide to click restart. On the other hand, some kind of high score system might be good as a substitute for an end state and win state; a timer that stops counting when it's impossible to play more, maybe.

But yeah it's fun. Very good

simon-rahnasto 2021-10-18 09:47

The reason why I am always excited to play your entries is because they are memorable, which is really rare. I can remember most of the around 20 Rude Bear games that I have played. That is because you guys always do something different, and do it really well.

First I was a little bit sad when the game seemed to feature Rude Bear or take place in the Rude Bear universe. Now I love RTS games, it's my all time favorite genre so I was still very excited to play, and there are a lot of things which I like. Probably going to steal the concept of having buildings "auto" create units for example

The music, just like the game, starts of really nice. Like pretty much everyone else have said, when those aliens and later dinosaurs came, man I died. It's the best thing ever! The gameplay get's a lot more hectic and the world starts to spin around like crazy, It was a lot of fun to see building flying around. I managed to live quite long, but in the end I lost everything... AND THEN I SAW HIM!

Rude Bear, chilling down below. Obviously I spent a good 30 minutes trying to flip the world over, because fuck the world, save the bear! I tried a lot of things, such as first tilting the world to one direction, and then trying to pendulum it into the opposite direction in order to flip it. Unfortunately I was never able to do it, but I am very happy that the Bear was in the game :bear:

Thank you for creating yet another memorable experience, see you next LD!

drums 2021-10-18 16:31

LOVE IT. Made me laugh and cry and gave me an out of body experience. This game might be the holy grail of this generation. Imagine 50 billion rainbows and the sun is setting and the moon is setting also and you are standing there, in a gazebo and then God descends from heaven and gives you a million dollars. Now put that feeling into a game and it is this one. All in all 9/10

franvadillo 2021-10-18 16:37

Okay this one is veery good and probably one of the winners of the jam. The music is awesome and matches the gameplay perfectly.

sinclairstrange 2021-10-19 16:01

+5 Humour. <3 Love you.

(But seriously it's actually great.)

m1nus 2021-10-20 19:08
