Great art style and music. Gameplay is simple but fits perfectly for the mysterious atmosphere.

Great art style and music. Gameplay is simple but fits perfectly for the mysterious atmosphere.
@foxfx @bobotast you can use the blue character (sorry I even cannot make sure the name. They are named 'Start' and 'Nothing' from the beginning :P) as a wall, blocking the red character and move it to wherever you want. Then the red character is able to push away the boxes and open the way to portal.
@igoreshka here are two hintings: first, you need to move left so the middle way can be clear; then you need to move the blue character to block the left box so that the box can be pushed away later.
@justuspan I added an option in pico-8 menu (pressing Enter) RESET PUZZLE, which resets the current level. Do not select RESET CART. This is a pico-8 built-in option and will reset the whole game. Thank you for your comment!
@compasslg The first step of this level is to move the blue girl to upper right. To reach the point you need to push away the box left to the blue girl downwards to open the path. All the boxes on the same horizontal line should be pushed aside instead of to the right, otherwise the path would be blocked.
@samh Thank you for the comments and advice! The red character is also a girl, or a woman. The interesting thing is that I named the two characters "Start" and "Nothing" at the very beginning and they are friends of the same age. But later I changed my mind and the red character become more senior. I would take your suggestion into consideration and make some helpful options when in my next puzzle game. Thanks again and I'm happy you enjoy this game!
@winslow Thank you for the comments and advice! I have no professional skills in composing or arranging, just found the sound editor in pico 8 very interesting so I had a try. Sorry to bring the uncomfortable feelings to you. I have a puzzle game with two friends before, named "Yet Another Hero Legend". It is accessible on Steam. This game is more polished. If you love this type of game you can have a try. For future plan, I am thinking about the plan of an open-world puzzle and strategy game. The plan is too big for me at present so I would keep making preparation at present. Thanks again for your support!
@dis0rder Thank you for the long reply! From what I have remembered, a series of flash platformers combined the level design and emotional narrative text about life (or love?) some years ago. I am happy you like this style! I was also a flash developer at the very beginning. Can't wait to try your game once I have time!
The idea is not totally new but level design is awesome. Using many heads and arrange their order of collection correctly is a bit tricky.
Nice idea of ordering calculations while input numbers and the target are all random. The game would be better if the balance is further improved. Multiplication and Division are most useful ways to moving close to the target in just one or two steps, but addition and subtraction often occupy all the slots and the strategy is limited.
The gameplay is not finished but the idea perfectly fits my understanding of "start with nothing". Many upgrading elements are suitable to be added in this game, like background sound unlock, more types of enemies and gather more money from defeating them.
Nice graphics and interactive style. I played this game several times and finally found this game not an interactive story but a surviving game. I know little about mid ages but I believe the threats are real in those dark years though they are expressed in a humorous tone.
Really great game! The theme is interpreted in a innovative way and tightly connected to platformer gameplay. I am not a good platformer player and failed on the "infinity" phase of the last tutorial. Still I believe the system is of great potential. Besides the controlling is smooth and comfortable. Good job!
I love the idea of combining top down puzzle and platformer. Besides the graphic and audio are cool. I am still trying to understand character switching mechanism now but this is really an impressive game for me.
Nice work! The X blocks add some difference and innovation on the gameplay. Early levels are not hard and only + blocks are used in most cases. But later levels start to be challenging and have more fun.
Interesting idea! The sound effect is in great mood. Rather than controlling the letters dynamically, I would prefer a turn-based mechanism so that I can have more time thinking about words and combination as a non-native speaker.
Nice game with retro star system display and synth music of 80's style. I really hope the game have more content like building turret stars to defend against enemy spaceships.
The atmosphere of the beginning scenes of this game is great! I almost believed this is an clicking escaping game. The platformer part is a bit hard to me but interesting enough. I also love the idea of the style of main game displaying everything in the pages. Great job!
Solid platformer. I can't go further after beating the second level of three colors. Still many details in this game impressed me. In some levels white platforms appear above you corresponding to the location of the colored platforms you are supposed to jump on. And for the level of colored monsters first appearing, one yellow platform is to the left of the character, indicating you to press the switch button and see the hidden enemies.
It feels great finding location grids in pink and unlocking two new quests (to visit certain locations and to bring items to the location). Net items can always be found when I explore the world. The mechanism is flexible because new grid types or level structures can easily be integrated into the system and bring up more fun to the game.
This game is really interesting and the theme in this game is presented in a unique way.
Very lovely idea and I would play for more time if the game has more content. For solving the audio issue, I recommend Patatap or MikuTap (website app). The random music note effect from these apps fits perfect for the idea of this game.
Nice and cute game! Even the texts and borders are perfectly fit the atmosphere.
Very nice idea for surviving and avoiding a hostile robot. I find collecting materials for a turret is easier than a wall though.
@foxfx I'm sorry to hear that. Looking forward to your next game!
Nice game with a large world to explore and a completed RPG system (except battle). It's really hard work. I'm not a native English speaker but I laughed a lot after understanding the jokes.
The concept of this game is in great potential. Upgrading the "passive" skill from nothing to something and higher levels is interesting for me. For system design and balancing, I would suggest taking RPG turn-based battle experience instead of the experience of card games into consideration. The resources in card games like deck size and cost do not play an important role in the system. But I believe the mechanism fits well with RPG battle concepts, like a small but strong player skill pool and more predictable enemies. This is what Slay the Spire do to modify the concept of Dream Quest into a well-accepted RPG-like battle system.
@compasslg I have noticed the power of "thing" card and found the ability of eliminating all enemy cards is the most powerful. Swapping and transforming are relatively harder to use. Ignoring the issue of balancing, this is really an interesting idea.
I like the bot grabbing objects for the chicken. The feeling is different from the chicken grabbing items itself.
The character and audio are both cute! I am not good at platformers and have only got jumping ability. The ability is fun and feels like some retro games since you must move horizontally then press jump to reach higher platforms. That's really impressive. Death penalty is too hard for me. When I touch something red I have to return to the very beginning without a second chance.
It's really hard work of you to make so many contents in very short time. The puzzles are also logical that I can think of the correct way of using the items.
Thank you for the great effort on the voice acting of several NPCs. All the game is surrounded in the mood of unspeakable chaos and nihilism。Just like @blaster391 said I'm also not going to recommend improvements on art or game style. But I would suggest trying more ways to show the idea of the story, for example, varying the structure of story (instead of just visiting a new place and meeting new people).
Not an platformer player. The jumps after passing the translucent pillar are too hard for me. But the moment is great when I found I can press alt key to reverse gravity.
It's a surprise to find an anime-style game in ludum dare. The mood, story and game style reminds me of Yume Nikki. I also find this game a bit hard. @justuspan unfortunately I stuck on the same condition like you. The ping pong mini game is also hard for me. I wonder what will happen when the girl reaches the end. Will she awake from the deep dream or just jump into a deeper dream world?
At the very first glance I thought the game would be a simple collecting game with a cute Kirby-like character. Indeed the character is always cute even when hit by a bullet. What is really impressive is the fruits with color. Bullets cannot hit the angry plant with different color, which naturally adds game difficulty when the progress goes on. The color can even be combined to new colors. This game is really filled with great idea and neat implementation. It's really great work!
The way of this game interpreting the theme is interesting. The art style is cute and lovely. If more elements are added in the level, like boxes of different texture, this game would be more fun to me.
The animation of shooting is simple to make but awesome in effect. I also believe that the mood of game will be enhanced if sound effects are added when shooting or hitting a pink circle.
Really great idle game! Some equipment do not appear strictly in level order, but this added much fun to the game. Obtaining a new equipment with high level helps a lot. I noticed the ability of level 90+ bosses are also different with each other, which is another fun part for me. The vampire seems to be more aggressive and the knight is tougher to deal with. Nice work!
The idea and graphic is fun. The game would be better if the physics is further polished.
Simple graphic but great mood. The sound effects help enhancing the atmosphere a lot! Nice work!
Hard to control the spaceship at the beginning. But the game becomes more attractive when I learned how to get the resources under the guide of the map. This game has got the minimal key points of some similar space exploring games.
This game shows the pure "start with nothing" theme with graphic effects and background music becoming more and more rich when you get more orbs. The graphic of this game inspires me of particle designs for enhancing the mysterious, beautiful and quiet atmosphere. I love this game and look forward to more contents.
This game is fun enough. The decimal point is a great idea. It may be a bit hard for a beginner because many numbers have to be taken into account.
I love this puzzle game. The characters on two sides are not symmetrical. You need to control the blocks with left side character. The new elements make the game really hard and challenging. Stuck on last level, need some hints.
I was trying to explore more in the cyber world when the game was stuck. Looking forward to a full version of this game with more puzzle solving or more place in the computer to explore.
Great idea for this theme. I love this type of meta-level "start with nothing" and all game elements need to be upgraded. High level upgrades cost too many coins and I have to beat the level again and again with very similar experience.
After several attemps I finally passed the level. The lower right part is most interesting for me. Two ways can be taken to go through this corner, jumping over the zombie or dropping under the pit, and both have different difficulties. It seems the hitbox of fires and enemies are slightly larger than the sprite, making the level harder than expected. Another small problem is that my browser was displaying all sprites in red tone (Chrome 77.0.3865.90).
red.png @shaurya-juneja This is my browser showing the game.
The slime is cuuuuute!
This game is really innovative and unique. It reminds me of some virtual pets that were popular some years ago. The computer buddy is so cute that I am willing to have a virtual pet like that. This game would be better if the computer and enemie are always on top of screen. Sometimes I tried to kill the enemies with one more click and the window on the layer below covered the game, which may weaken the immersion.
This game is somewhat narrative that I always have to sacrifice the hero to save princess. Levels are funny and of high completion.
The music and atmosphere is great in your game! I love turn-based games and your idea of keeping the ball close to the hero is nice. Sadly the game is too dark on my monitor. I cannot see the enemies clearly.
@owl-skip Thank you for your support! This is not for a number 14 but to type the two digit number 14 in the command. My English is not good and what should be a clear way of saying "please input a number with one or more digits"? Thank you!
@alaah I'm not an English native speaker and these riddles are found from some websites. Sorry for the inappropriate difficulty. The first answer is "future" and the second is "time". Mysteries from the third are not riddles but some other questions.
@jimbly The name is hidden in the activity results in two parts, the first name and the last name. I remember they are in tax and in fighting with dragon. I'm happy you like this game!
This game is awesome! The gameplay mechanics, animation effects and sound are all good! I really enjoy this one.
The background music of this game is nice! It's great job to finish all the game in 48 hours. The levels are a bit difficult for me though.
The animation of slime is cute. I may suggest the properties and activities are unlocked gradually to add some changes and difficulties to keep the slime alive.
Fighting with flies is an awesome idea I never thought of. This is perfectly fit for the keep it alive and the background is interesting. It's difficult to me that I cannot control the swatter well and I stuck on level 3. I also like the soundtrack. In all it's great game, well done!
I like your retro graphics and UI. But sadly I cannot find out how to control your game and where the player is, and frame rate is very slow here (~1 or 2 fps, in chrome).
Idea and feeling of physics in the game is great. I enjoy the feeling of pushing a pizza using another pizza into the mouth of alien. Trash can management is also innovative. Soundtracks in game and after beating all levels are both nice. Great job!
Your music is great! It is the best tracks I've heard in this Ludum Dare.
The idea of milk bottle is great. It it both the weapon and a tool for longer jump. I also like the lovely animations of cats. A bit hard for me but this is really fun.
The graphics and opening text is nice. But the game always blacks out on my browser (chrome).
I'm not a good action game player but I really love this game. Carrying servers everywhere on the map then connecting them is a lovely idea. Physical animation of ropes is also smooth and nice. Great work!
The idea is fun. Looks like the resources are useful in all kinds of games. That's a good design on reusability.
Smooth and nice graphics. The gameplay is simple but the rules become more difficult when they start to constraint each other. That's a nice idea.
Congratulations on your success of using Qt WebAssembly. Learning a new framework is always hard and tricky. My browser runs your game good except the frame rate is slow (chrome). Keep up with good work!
I thought of making a game in memory of Conway but I failed to find a good way of adding interaction into the game of life. Your idea of manually controlling time steps and changing some cells at any step is awesome!
I died 9 times and defeated the boss with some luck (LD version). The idea is impressive that it is the player who keeps the hero alive. Music and dashing effects are also great.
I think more meta-level descriptions or dialog can be added in the game. For example, if the player leveled up speed to the maximum of the gauge, the hero may have some comments on his speed or thinking about the will power the player gives to him.
Overall the game is nice and innovative. Thank you for the great work!
The atmosphere of this game is great! All the pixel arts and lighting effects are good looking. Like other players I found the last two upgrades are too costly and some more types of upgrade may make this game more fun. Also keeping the campfire alive is fit the theme very well. Nice game!
The idea is interesting. A bit hard for me to control the bike, but the scene when the bike flying in the sky is awesome.
Many details are merged in the level design. This is really great. Using physical moving in platformer is an unusual design (except some early flash games as far as I have known) and I found it difficult to go past the first door because the controls are not similar to other games. But in all the ideas throughout the game level is awesome!
Graphic and lighting effects build up great atmosphere. If the gameplay and difficulty curve are enhanced, this game would be a great one.
The mechanism is genius! Connecting with other people is a one-way operation, and having "friends" allows the player move further, so you need to plan every move very carefully. Level design and solutions for each level are wonderful.
Welcome to your first participating in LD. The control is different from familiar ways but it also provides some feeling of challenge. Keep up with good work!
The game system is quite interesting! It is probably a bug that I cannot go to level 4 after beating level 3. Still the system has great potential in my view.
Really creative game! I feel like I am the alien behind the scene of all civilizations. Even my waste becomes meteors and disasters to the people. The controls are simple and easy to learn, but the system is of great depth. A planet appears in different ways if the parameters are changed.
Great arcane style game with nice sound and animation effects. The game becomes challenging to me if more than 3 balls appears on the screen. This is a 48-hour mini game but all the details are focused on enhancing the feeling. Great work!
A interesting game with nice graphics and solid gameplay. I only earn around $300 on the first run and the upgrades are so far away. I think a player really needs some guide on how to start the first step.
This game really gets the most important part of a DVD player. 5/5 Humor.
I love your music and colorful light effects in this game. This is a really fascinating job.
This is an innovative and fun idea. I first thought of the wood sticks as a campfire but later I found they should be used as tools to keep the fire alive. The gameplay is solid and nice that can be extended to a full game with more levels and different types of materials.
The balance of this game is great in world forming games. Also keeping the word alive is fit for the theme in a nice way.
Great physics and world generating system! Rules are simple but gameplay is interesting enough. I really love this game.
@bougiebirdie Thank you! Yet I have no furthen plan now. I hope I can have a better idea visualizing the numbers but it seems to be a bit hard. I may continue working on this when I come up with some ideas.
@shared Congratulations! It's not easy to beat the game without carefully card selection and battle tactics. Happy you have played it to the end!
The atmosphere of horror and mystery is very nice. The red power plant is working as a good guiding target in the dark environment. I am not good at 3d action games and jumping over the platforms in limited time is not so easy for me.
The dimensional shifting with limited time is awesome. This gives each level 3 states instead of 2.
Do you have any hints on the 4th key of level 2? I cannot find it.
Finished level 2. The puzzle of all the 4 keys are unique. Nice design!
The graphics and the sound is great! It's really hard work for finishing a metroid vania game in this event. The control is a bit hard for me. It becomes better when I got the wall jump and double jump abilities. Keep up with good work!
It's really hard work to finish a tactical game in the jam! The abilities of changing environments is also fun that I can cover multiple enemies or allies with the environment then fight. The action point seems to be a little low and the direct attack uses the action point more efficiently.
Nice little game! Clicking the buildings and see how they affect the board is simple but fun enough. It would be more attractive if buildings have different physical behaviors.
The game is great with nice graphic and background music. The way of items in the storage affecting each other is also fun. I didn't notice the rotating function at the first time, struggled to 25 days and feel it challenging. After going familiar with this game, thinking in advance for hot, cold and radiative items also help.
Very neat and solid game. I love the idea of last three levels. Level 3 and 4 provides two white objects for you to use while level 5 handles the white object in a totally different way (from my solution).
The atmosphere of defeating all the enemy ships in the sea wave and storm is great. It's hard to avoid enemy bullets using acceleration or deceleration but it's good experience to repeat clicking and destroy enemy ships with tons of bullets.
The idea is very nice! The combination of these two type performs well. I also think that an AI would be better for single players. Controlling two sides at the same time is really hard.
I love this game so much! The pixel animation and controls are well polished. The game mechanism is so compact that only the two types of liquid and a cup are used to make such variety of levels. Nice work!
Nice idea. I think it's too long to wait for one minute. Pressing a button or trigger some conditions may have better experience. Keep up with good work!
Nice physics and the background is interesting. I love the idea of showing a laser dot when the hook is reachable. The most difficult thing for me is to reach upper layers when my character is blocked under a platform. But the feeling of finding a way to higher levels is good.
Nice concept that generates the pet from the selection to satisfy the requirement of the customer. The art style is nice. Personally I need some more hints on the habits and behaviors of the monsters when selecting them.
Describing the theme with chain reaction is a neat idea. The music is nice.
Finding and collecting carrots add some nice challenges. I cannot reach the later levels but the early levels are fun.
The random magic idea fits the unstable theme prefectly. Using the magic slowly or furiously can be two strategies which is fun. This idea has lots of potential that more unstable magic can be added to build a totally unstable wizard.
Nice concept and framework. Looking forward to a final version with card descriptions!
Awesome game! I love this type of games guessing rules and solving the puzzles. I first walked to the right and guessed out the dot rule. But the double line rule is really hard. Later I find a way to the left and learned about the rule. The art and music is also great!
I recommend this game I played several months ago https://store.steampowered.com/app/1299400/Understand/ . This is a witness-like puzzle game filled with guessing rules by trials on the board.
Nice game that perfectly fit the theme! I love the level idea that the player can turn 180 degrees to hang on the platform. It provides a new way to use the turning function.
The game is of great humor in all the examples. The idea of fixing the time line by talking to people is awesome.
The artwork and animation is smooth. The game is easy to understand and play. Hope more elements can be added to the game. Nice work!
The idea is fun and of potential. And the gameplay is perfectly fit the theme. The most interesting part for me is that each block can be placed in different orientations to play as different roles.
Congratulations for your finishing the work! Impressive tiny game with nice sound effects. Hope that the nuclear can blast the nearby objects away.
Finally I have found how to use the nuke. It's really fun to achieve multiple blasts.
The theme and music is great. A bit hard to understand how to buy and sell, but my money is increasing at least. The animations are also good enough to feel the atmosphere.
I love the idea of exploring the level in different directions using lines to help. Hope the level can be extended to a large world. And the large circle is a nice puzzle. I stucked in the wall after a teleportation but the game is great.
The game mechanism is fun. It takes some time to figure out how to play. I hope I can battle vs AI in future updates.
Very nice idea. The player need to collect the explosive in the mid air. This creates different experience than finding collections on fixed locations.
Nice try on describing the story with game maker. Hope to see more narrative interactions like selecting continent to bring democracy in the game.
Nice idea, nice sound effect (and beautiful math conclusion). Using a greedy method solved all the problems I met: find an edge that fits in a colored slot after a flip, flip it, then repeat this step until all the edges are fit. I can't prove if it is right but it seems to work.
Congratulations for your first Game Jam work!
The control is a bit hard for me. I can beat some levels but failed to reach the ending.
The whistle music is nice. Keep up with good work!
Very interesting. Though it is too hard for me, I still love the control and the idea.
It is also a bit hard to use hover button. I prefer launching at full speed then press the opposite direction to hover in mid air.
The screen is red when I try to start the game, both for the html5 and windows versions. Do you have any idea what happened and how can I start the game?
Great work! I have noticed that some rooms are intentionally designed for different abilities to take different paths. When I go into a same room with a new ability, I can have totally different experience. Sometimes I have to go back to rearrange the rooms, which is a bit frustrating but the result is rewarding after all.
The ending is nice!
The graphic is really cute and smooth just like the cat. The idea of the cat moving through the obstacle is great.
I love the design of animals. The square tortoise and the cat named 'tiger' really make me laugh. I protected my cat to the enemy field and gained victory immediately. The random combination system is also awesome.
Nice idea and fit the summoning theme. The slime boss is hard to me but I still have fun playing this game.
Nice game. The idea that skeletons have better portraits on high level is great.
The idea is great. A bit hard to me but still having fun in the game. Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare!
Seeing the random generated creatures is fun. Nice artwork!
Nice game with awesome visual design, smooth graphic effects and plenty of fun memes. I like the idea of playing as a racing snail and competing with other snails with the speed of kcm/h.
Nice character design, art and music! I would definitely buy it if it expands to a full idle game and I can watch my cat realm grow larger.
The concept is very creative and genius! I find the arm super powerful after I learn how to use it. The wizard is a bit hard for me. I can't help imagine the creature gets more body parts and becomes more powerful.
The idea of this game is nice. Guiding the bugs using the fruits in physics based levels brings up really different experience compared to other puzzle games.
The idea of art style is very creative that skeleton changes appearance when adding different creatures to it. I feel the gameplay is hard to understand and I failed to take the tiny step in the 3rd year.
Defeated the final duck boss. Great survivor game!
Nice character design and artwork! The puzzle solving using two tiny friends is fun. It may be more friendly if the game provides a tactical top-down camera.
Very nice concept and opening. It is thrilling to play as the mouse parent leading its children find cheese slices and avoiding the cat. A multiplayer version of gameplay using this style and background would be much fun to me. The cheese slices sometimes spawn on the obstacles and they are unreachable. But still the game is fun overall.
