Palette do fit w the wholesome(?) nature of the game. Game that did movement really well and the game had a ton of mechanics that were cleverly put together in different combinations. Thumbs up plus

boltzmannsbud 2020-04-20 03:02

I'm on a Mac and when I ran it I got a blank screen.

electric-blue 2020-04-20 03:23

I liked the graphics!

splicedev 2020-04-20 03:24

The mechanics fit nicely together. I liked using the milk to boost my jumps.

bradcode 2020-04-20 03:24

Some instructions on how to run a jar file might help more people to try this out!

samsdevlog 2020-04-20 03:27

Enjoyed it quite a bit! I think the platforming may have been a touch hard for the first level though. Loved the milk boost mechanic, and the animations were cute!

courtmac 2020-04-20 03:29

Wonderful game, it was super fun to play, especially when using the milk as a jump booster

zonvoi 2020-04-20 03:29

I liked how parkour was implemented with this perspective, the game's really fun!

gamurmakesgems 2020-04-20 03:30

Well Developed game, the only problems are the game is too bright, I can't see the milk meter, as well as the cursor

psychic-ash 2020-04-20 03:37

enjoyed the screen shots. Could use some instruction on how to run it, if you're going to publish a file like this.

drachmor 2020-04-20 03:37

Thank you for all the helpful feedback! Admittedly, the difficulty may be a touch high, as I've become quite used to the controls over the past 48 hours >.>

For those having trouble running .jar submissions, make sure you have a recent Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version installed. .Jar files are executables that do not require extraction! I will try to bundle a JRE with the .jar into an .exe if I can!

bradcode 2020-04-20 03:58

After installing java and with a bit of creative keyboard remapping on my weird ergonomic keyboard, I was able to feed all my plump babies :) Nice job! I liked how the bottle doubled as a movement mechanic.

bradcode 2020-04-20 04:01

One thing that would make the milk shot movement a bit more intuitive would be to use the direction from the player's ground position to the target position rather than the offset jump position. I had to train myself for horizontal boosts to aim "up" a bit to deal with the difference in the aim caused by the jump itself.

drachmor 2020-04-20 04:19

@bradcode Thank you for the feedback! On your comment regarding the milk-propulsion, I think I would have to agree. I imagine I was so excited to have gotten it working, I became accustomed to the yOffset before I could objectively question it. I plan to revisit this project, and this feedback does not fall on deaf ears :)

drachmor 2020-04-20 04:28

@psychic-ash I have uploaded another link containing a packaged .exe of the game, if you'd still like to check it out! I'm curious to know if it works on your end.

drprettypatty 2020-04-20 04:39

man despite the graphics this was fun in a dark souls kind of way, ha. i was so happy when i realized that there was a checkpoint partway through, but i still didn't make it much farther through the second technical platforming part. but the way you taught mechanics with the level was great -- it was a great moment when i realized i had to shoot backwards to get enough speed to cross the last gap in the first spoiled milk part. really slick game 👍

i love the whole thing with the contrast between the cute graphics/theme and the brutal mechanics and flavor text too

becher 2020-04-20 08:25

Really funny game.

strupf 2020-04-20 09:54

Huh boy, I got a MILK JETPACK! I needed 3 attempts until it clicked with the platforming. Nice.

dinaharison 2020-04-20 11:17

A little bit hard for me, these babies are scary :smile_cat:, but it was super fun to play, great works!

blipbloop 2020-04-20 15:37

Oh no! I can't seem to get it to run on Ubuntu, what version of java was this built with? I'd love to give it a go!

bredcrumb 2020-04-20 18:12

Really fun!

collin-thompson 2020-04-20 20:41

Thanks for uploading a .exe file, one of my favorites of this jam so far! If you added some sound effects it would make it even better. Really liked the tone of the game and it gave me a good chuckle, LOL! I also really like the theme interpretation and especially the level design. I also have massive respect for anyone who makes their own engine, especially for/during a game jam! Thanks again I had a lot of fun with this one and great job! I hope this game does great during/in this game jam! Good luck!

drachmor 2020-04-20 21:59

@collin-thompson Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad the .exe worked. I swear I was going to add sound at the start of the jam... but everything's a lesson in time management >.>

drachmor 2020-04-20 22:04

@blipbloop The last .exe link is packaged with the JRE (jre1.8.0_201) required to run the game. Hope this helps

d1str4kt0r 2020-04-21 07:01

I love it! cute as hell! good for laying your head off problems and stuff.. love the artwork, congrats

horbee 2020-04-21 07:56

Cute game, I liked this type of feeding :D It is quite hard to jump between the windows though. Good idea!

munmungames 2020-04-21 10:27

I really enjoyed your game and I finished it ! I gave you a good rating because I think it is a good work. It is very kawaii, and the gameplay is simple but challenging enough. Wish it had audio and that the menu was a bit more polished, but that's no big deal :smiley_cat:

mza 2020-04-21 11:00

Controls are good and the art is cute. It took me a while to know that you have to avoid/jump over the yellow bits. I thoungt it was milk being a :cat:

joshuarabbit 2020-04-21 12:33

The cat is so cute, but it is easy to mistake the yellow area for the next level trigger. After repeating the same level I find that yellow area is kill zone. I am attracted by the cat artwork! GJ!

dina 2020-04-21 13:33

Cute game! Nice graphics, i liked it!

gquibao 2020-04-21 14:46

Great graphics! I really liked the milk jetpack mechanic (although it took me a few moments to realize it was a thing). Great work! Loved it.

baptiste-barreyre 2020-04-21 15:58

Loved what I saw of the game

thewinrawr 2020-04-21 20:37

What I really like the most about this game is the recoil system. It's such a simple idea that really adds another layer of depth to the platforming aspect of the game. The graphics were also super cute and they fit the theme of your game super well!

One improvement I suggest is making the spoiled milk color a little more obvious. I kept dying on the first level running into the spoiled milk patch and getting confused, thinking that it was the same as the regular milk. I'd make it more yellow to help it distinguish it from the white milk.

Overall, super cute and great game!

duck-reaction 2020-04-21 20:41

Your game looks so nice ! Controls work like a charm. Cute and fun. Good job !

attx 2020-04-22 01:24

The recoil was a nice touch. Very soft fluffy graphics really fit for the mood. I think the jumping section at the start was possibly a little too difficult right off the bat. Definitely could have used music and sfx, but the game looked very nice and had some nice juicy mechanics.

microwerx 2020-04-22 06:31

I won! That was a tough game. I almost gave up in the middle, but I persevered. My trick is to press SPACE before moving. Well done. This is one of my faves of LD46.

tomssuli 2020-04-23 18:35

Played it through. This was hilarious, spruiting the milk around maken kitties fat  Some nice retro tune would have perfected this game. And maybe the start could have been a bit easier, now it started pretty hardcore platforming... Not that I complain, I like hard games having played through Wings of Vi among others, but it can be of-putting for people not used to dying over and over again right from the beginning.

keith-wang 2020-04-23 19:40

Really cute concept and game. Pretty hard platform jumping with such a cute art style.

cirno 2020-04-23 22:52

The idea of milk bottle is great. It it both the weapon and a tool for longer jump. I also like the lovely animations of cats. A bit hard for me but this is really fun.

justuspan 2020-04-26 14:49

Concise concept and cute pixel art. But control mode sometimes is not comfortable. It could be better if add some SFX or BGM.

p53 2020-04-27 12:27

Pretty cool game! The whole thing felt very polished and well put together although it could definitely use some sounds. Cute art and very solid gameplay throughout.

polegar 2020-04-27 13:05

Fun idea and gameplay ! It's nice that you created your own game engine and still had a really good result. The game misses a bit of audio for the overall experience and giving feedback to the player. Anyway great job !

fiakaiera 2020-04-27 13:23

This game is a very fun experiment with mechanics. As a beam-shooter it works so well with the raycasting. Great job~! The aesthetics mechanics made it very well fun experience also a MILK JETPACK already attracted my attention when I saw RECOIL!

So here's some feedback: * "Press Start". You don't need the menu when Esc immediately closes the game. * On the first stage, it's makes it clear that you're supposed to use the milk bottle for parkour too. But there's one section where on the first parkour section, there's some awkward block placement where you need to do a vertical parkour jump on the north then back down. Untitled.png The way it's designed suggests they are of the same length, but in reality not. Some who are oblivious will just keep trying straight on and not mind the top block there for a good while. * As a sidenote, kudos on making checkpoints and thank goodness you did so. Otherwise, it'll make everyone VERY frustrated. * As for visibility, the contrast between spoiled and clean milk won't be too obvious for those who can't see very well, especially on a night filter. * Good job for the cursor indicator though. It highlights both darker and bright areas. An unintended quirk about it is when passed through a night filter, the lower white half actually turns really visible in contrast to the spoiled milk. * Back to the milk. The milk indicator at the bottom left blends in too much with the spoiled milk especially on areas where it's filled with it. If the bottle has a dark background, you can easily tell how much milk you have left. * The indicators themselves should probably be on the character as small indicators. Sometimes you just don't know when you got hit or you're low on milk since the HUD is pretty small. * This would be better if you have air friction of some sort to better tell about the recoil. But that's a bit advanced already. * I think from the perspective of others, it is a bit challenging, especailly the first stage. Once you get the knack, it's actually somewhat easy. But that's me from my platformer experience. * I know you didn't have the time to, but yes I feel this deserves some sounds! But that's Ludum Dare I suppose. You sadly run out of time. * Thank you for providing an *.exe file. This is really helpful!

I think if you plan to make this a full game, go for it! A lot of people like it already from the get-go despite the problems. Great work!

drachmor 2020-04-27 16:48

@fiakaiera Thank you for the very thorough feedback!

ectucker1 2020-04-28 05:14

Lots of interesting mechanics in this game; milk knockback would not have been something I'd come up with. You should definitely list out the controls somewhere; it took me quite a while to realize I could jump. The spoiled milk just looked like another color floor at first, and I walked into it several times before realizing it was an obstacle. Once I figured that out, the game was a lot more fun. The art was super cute; great work with it!

camcam 2020-04-28 20:44

I don't understand the rule , I can't move I get killed direct, but beautiful style game ! Good Job

endurion 2020-04-29 15:20

Great game! Thanks for making a .exe to run it, I want to keep my PC Java free ;)

The first platforming part is unforgivingly hard, it took me a few tries to get by. But then I managed to feed all boss kittens. It needs sound effects badly, music would be a plus too.

The level design is top notch, just that first part...

The main menu looks as if it was clickable, but it isn't :)

Well done!

rialgar 2020-04-29 18:46

This would have been a perfect fit for "make a violent genre non-violent" as well. Awesome job!

See me making the kittens happy here (I assumed your nickname is German): https://youtu.be/JY7wyah9fJY

drachmor 2020-04-29 21:59

@rialgar Thanks for the feedback, and well done! This is the first time I've actually seen someone else play my game, that was a blast.

I'm starting to think I made the first part a little too difficult :P
