Pretty expansive for an LD Entry! I'm a lil stumped at a piece of this but I definitely dig a bit of a puzzle game. The game does seem to slow down on the "overworld" of the island, that's mostly my computer. Do you have a walkthrough ready in case folks get stuck? Pretty chill song that kicks in midway through too.

saltfactory-studio 2019-10-08 19:25

Notable amount of puzzles and gameplay for the player. The art is great for such a short amount of time and clearly informs the player of what to do next without giving away too much information. The keyboard controls of Z, X, E, and Q isn't exactly ideal for the left hand so I would suggest optimizing that better.

Good work!

kyle-bowman 2019-10-08 20:54

Cool puzzle game. I got stuck on a few parts but it was really cool overall!

nathaniel-jensen 2019-10-08 21:35

@saltfactory-studio thank you for the feedback! If you would like to use both hands, you can use the mouse button for the action and the scroll wheel to select the action.

Has anyone beat the whole game yet? I am curious as to how many can complete it.

Thanks everyone!

nachtwitch 2019-10-08 22:50

Cool game, I had some trouble, but it was fine other than that

malai 2019-10-08 22:58

I was able to complete it, quite some content for a jam and some tricky puzzles! And btw I wonder what the last combination means? :D

huntrox 2019-10-08 23:05

nice puzzle game used google for roman numerals xd i dont know them but i feel like the character is too slow

sylvie 2019-10-08 23:10

That was a pretty fun adventure game. I got stuck early on (on the puzzle after getting the bottle) and almost gave up but I managed to figure it out and beat it!

cedric-matheus 2019-10-08 23:20

Cool!

theog 2019-10-08 23:22

@nathaniel-jensen I reached the end of the game (nice animation at the end, haha). It took me about 20 minutes, but I'm definitely not the smartest guy on this planet. Great game, I love the puzzles, nice and smooth!

kroltan 2019-10-09 01:02

Really liked the song (please release it separately somewhere!!!)

But the only thing I managed to do was make clothing and throw the anchor rope at the bird's nest.

Any hints?

nathaniel-jensen 2019-10-09 01:41

@kroltan try opening one of the combination locks. I'm sure you can figure it out using clues on the island.

kroltan 2019-10-09 02:29

Okay, I have finished it. And i got to say, this game is fascinating. Thank you for making this, it has made my day a bit better from the nostalgia of old point-and-clicks!

**WARNING SEMI-SPOILER BEGIN**

I really liked the riddles! The last combination lock was a bit too simple perhaps, compared to the rest of the puzzles. Though I can understand how hard it is to finish a puzzle sequence satisfactorily. Also, the wall one was a bit too small for my crappy eyes, had to screenshot and magnify.

**SEMI-SPOILER END**

Some text here just so people reading this past the spoiler part have somewhere to rest their gaze without being tempted.

Nice puzzle game, it probably took me longer to finish than it should. Very interesting. I agree with Huntrox, the character moves too slow.

baturinsky 2019-10-09 14:35

Movement is painfully slow

whatnamegames 2019-10-09 14:39

Awesome. Genuinely impressed by how much there is to this game. You've done wonderfully, definitely inspirational.

zoarfy 2019-10-09 14:44

Hi I just played through the full thing. There's an impressive amount of puzzles and content which is fun. I enjoyed playing through it a lot, but the walking speed was WAY to slow, it almost made me quit early, but I kept going because I was really enjoying the puzzles.

I felt like there could be a little more direction at the very start, at least to get the first puzzle going.

Overall I really liked it, it felt like a very complete and whole package.

xakkar 2019-10-09 14:45

Funny quest but the character walks too slowly(

nathaniel-jensen 2019-10-09 15:00

Thank you for the feedback, everyone! I will adjust the walk speed for a future build. Thanks!

clemonades 2019-10-09 18:15

Cool game! I really liked the graphic they're very sharp. Wish I could have moved a little faster. Other than that great job! :)

ulisses 2019-10-09 23:22

Amazing! I love it!

washingmachinae 2019-10-10 09:49

Had fun playing it through, though at times it seemed tedious to walk forward and back at a slow pace x)

wevel 2019-10-10 12:23

Nice puzzle game. The movement is a bit slow, and it might be nice to be able to use different key bindings, but well done one your entry.

swordishmage 2019-10-10 16:47

This was a very fun puzzle game! I enjoyed the puzzles and the music quite a bit! My only wish is that I could have walked faster. Otherwise, great job!

weine 2019-10-10 16:55

Very nice little puzzler. Impressive amount of content for a solo project. I loved the little special effects with the waves and flames - very clever =) I got stuck on the bottle message for a while, but solved it and completed the game without cheating!

ynneblack 2019-10-10 17:08

I see others have already pointed out the walking speed; can you @ me when you make it faster? I'd love to play through it again, but it's a bit frustrating at the moment. I do love that you put the two posters in the hut, so the game gives you instructions without needing a tutorial! And the controls are very easy, selecting just one action at a time.

jusw85 2019-10-10 17:11

I beat the game! I actually liked it alot, since I have a preference for puzzle games, and this one had alot of content. I had the hardest time with the first riddle, since that was a either you know or you don't and get hard stuck kind of situation, and the riddle wasn't googleable. The rest of the puzzles were fairly standard, didn't have any trouble with those. Others have already mentioned the movement speed. Credits was maybe unintentionally funny since all the roles were by one person. Regardless, overall great entry!

nathaniel-jensen 2019-10-10 18:02

@ynneblack and everyone else, I sped up the character slightly, but not by much. I do not want the player to just run around like a crazy person, so I still kept it rather slow. Thank you for everyone's feedback!

nathaniel-jensen 2019-10-10 18:05

@jusw85 I'm glad you liked the credits ;-)

ynneblack 2019-10-10 19:45

To test if it feels too slow, I'd recommend just walking across the whole island, back and forth, 10 times. Or even from the hut to the trees in the middle, several times in a row. It can take a lot of back-and-forth when figuring out the puzzles for the first time! It is a bit better already, though. :) I'm stuck on leaf + rope so I can't provide further feedback but from the little content I saw it looked promising.

jeremy-daffix 2019-10-11 00:14

I liked it and I finished it! :) Nice art, and good content, congratulations for achieving so much in so little time!

cirno 2019-10-11 12:58

It's really hard work of you to make so many contents in very short time. The puzzles are also logical that I can think of the correct way of using the items.

freyje 2019-10-12 13:18

The character is too slow and the music is nice even if it is not always present. The puzzles make the game more lively, even if I couldn't open the cage because of the puzzle I couldn't understand (I'm French), I enjoyed the part of the game I played

simxple 2019-10-12 16:53

Nice puzzle, but the movement was a bit to slo in my opinion. Nice soundtrack! Much content for such a short time aswell!

anttiviljami 2019-10-12 16:53

Awesome puzzle. Reminded me of 90's PC adventure games!

evepto 2019-10-12 17:03

Neat game. But I think you are walking a bit slowly

vincentvincent 2019-10-13 13:25

Like the puzzles but the move of the character is a little bit slow. But really nice work in a short amount of time!

nsadie 2019-10-15 18:57

Very impressive for a jam, nice puzzles! In traditional point and click there is quite a bit of walking around, but good solid entry.

acronaut 2019-10-17 21:56

It seems like the general consensus for most players is that we all would love to see that this character could have an option to run or sprint (especially for loads of backtracking); technically he's walking too fast for scale but hey! it's just a theory.. a G-*record break*. :smile_cat: At first I was thinking it was going to be a flat-shaded Runescape-ish 3D game, instead it's a 2D/2.5D Adventure Game! You got me there! I did not get that far on the alpha-numeric lock-puzzle. For a split/second this game is giving me a nostalgic memory of playing the Puzzle-Adventure game: [Island of Dr.Brain] from Sierra. :dizzy:

2019-10-22 14:57

Nice game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/zqhSjSyg75I

sorlok 2019-10-27 13:25

Looked really good, and had some nice puzzle solving setups. Only complaints were (1) it wasn't possible to "look" at certain things (like the numbers on the ground), (2) walking was way too slow. Maybe increase walking speed once the leaves are picked up?
