I'm not sure if it's a good idea to make a game that requires a second player as that really limits your audience, I tried playing it alone controlling both sides, one thing I can say is having the score really big in the playing field really threw me off as my brain kept thinking it was an obstacle it would bounce against

joerenglish 2021-10-04 05:09

A really fun idea! It's a little chaotic trying to play it by yourself, but it would be fun to play with two people huddled over a keyboard. The pixel art is really charming too. Nice!

devnugget 2021-10-04 05:09

great game! I also made a pong game, maybe have some basic pong ai because its kinda lame to play on your own controlling both sides

cirno 2021-10-04 09:13

The idea is very nice! The combination of these two type performs well. I also think that an AI would be better for single players. Controlling two sides at the same time is really hard.

dobryn 2021-10-04 10:18

Very challenging, given that I checked it out by myself, but the mechanics are good, combining two different games is a great idea. I will play this again though. Good game

chesschaser 2021-10-04 15:21

I would play the game if i had two players. Looks really cool though!

m11 2021-10-04 15:38

A really cool idea!

kora0h 2021-10-04 21:16

Nice combination!I'm alone but my left hand win with 6 score!I really like this. Sometimes the ball stuck on the edge, except for that it is a nice game.

aaronfournet 2021-10-05 02:42

Very cool twist on pong and bricks! The power up to build a wall behind you was super cool.

prismapunch 2021-10-05 03:40

Very interesting concept, nice what you did with the theme you were given, wish I had a friend to play it with :'(

alina-baybulatova 2021-10-05 03:40

I'm not sure about background pattern. But i really have fun to play this game!) Thank you)

kyrylo-kalienich 2021-10-05 07:52

Cool game! Simple and fun, graphics and sound are great too!

majadroid 2021-10-05 11:31

Multiplayer games are not the best idea for a game jam, but I played this anyway. Playing alone is a bit chaotic. The game itself is nice, but I don't see anything relied to "unstable". The sound desgin and music is simple but pleasing.

michellecaldeira 2021-10-05 11:37

I played this game with friends and I can say that it was an interesting experience. Early on we played it like we would any Pong game, franctically trying to stop the ball from entering but as we got to grips with the rules we ended up developing an entirely different strategy where we prioritised building a brick wall over defending our goalposts. In fact there were times where we let the ball run into the goal rather than letting some of our bricks get placed back in the middle.

If if I had a complaint to make would be that (and I don't know if this is a glitch) when there was one single point to go in one of of our games an overwhelming noise came our way and it threw us off. It was loud, it was annoying, and as someone with asd, it was very distracting. I captured video of it below:

https://youtu.be/74IJ3dHx9gs

But overall it was fun and surprisingly deep! :)

player-2 2021-10-05 11:43

An interesting idea for a game blend, but a shame that there wasn’t a single player option as requiring two local players is not ideal for a game jam. The sound design was satisfying and really added to the feel of the game. And, even playing solo controlling both paddles, it was quite fun.

megamasterx 2021-10-05 12:24

Grabbing a friend for this entry was worth it, I certainly give props for a multiplayer game in a jam. You've gotten good feedback so far. I think you did a great job with the overall gameplay mechanics and matching the theme!

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:31

@michellecaldeira looks like you found a glitch I didn't account for. Looking at the screen one of the balls seems to have clipped the brick and is playing the sound effect over and over and over. I'm sorry this happened to you thanks for getting the capture. I'll see if I can fix this after the jam is over.

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:33

@robert18 I would have liked to have added a single player but I'm still fairly new to game dev and wasn't sure if I could implement an AI in time. Thanks for the feedback!

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:34

@joerenglish thanks for the feedback!

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:35

@cirno I agree an AI would have been better. It's in my plans to learn how to do that after voting is over. Thanks for the feedback

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:36

@m11 thanks!

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:36

@chesschaser Thanks.

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:36

@dobryn thank you!

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:37

@kora0h yeah I did find that bug while testing but ran out of time to fix it. Thanks for the feedback!

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:38

@aaronfournet thanks!

zapturk 2021-10-06 00:40

@majadroid I use the definition of unstable being prone to change. For instance the balls would change teams, The power-ups were random, and the bricks created an unstable tug of war. Thanks for the feedback.

nephronhunter 2021-10-06 02:53

I am definitely getting unstable from this. I don't know how I scored, or how it went, but I had fun.

zapturk 2021-10-06 03:16

@nephronhunter thanks!

hcs-hades 2021-10-06 04:34

Deff meant for 2 people, idea is real neat tho

enya454 2021-10-06 04:40

Really fun game. Had to play this by myself but I could see how this would be really fun with two players. It was a little unclear that I had to push a button to send of the ball to start but other than that it was a really simple easy to play game. Good job

antom 2021-10-06 04:55

I was player 1 and 2 at the same time :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Nice implementación of the theme unstable. keep the good work!!! :thumbsup:

commanderstitch 2021-10-06 05:01

pong for the win. got me wondering how difficult it would be to try to get the bar to move and attack that ball as an ai. xD :) nice graphics

lychee 2021-10-06 06:40

I like the take on pong, lots of creative ideas! Maybe a simple 1 player mode where the opponent just attempts to follow the ball's y position would be fun. But for the time in the jam I thought it was well executed.

chainsawmcd 2021-10-06 19:34

This is like when a DJ makes a mashup of two songs and you realize they were always supposed to go together. If there was a computer A.I. for single player I would definitely play this on mobile. Fun game and a good idea.

jessefreeman 2021-10-07 00:52

Liked the mash up between the two game ideas. Took me a minute to adjust to the brick breaking being horizontal instead of vertical but eventually it started making sense.

morepixels 2021-10-07 08:40

Liked the mashup between the two genres! Was very fun to play with friends!

lakea 2021-10-07 09:18

The game itself is a great spin on the pong and breakout combo, however having to play both players got a bit tricky for me, would have been loads more fun to play an ai.

johnsensei 2021-10-07 20:35

I didn't have anyone to play with (T_T)

mtabasco 2021-10-08 14:00

An interesting new take on both Pong and Arkanoid, they fit together pretty well! Also, the idea of building your own wall behind the paddle by destroying the wall in the middle is genius!

sestren 2021-10-09 23:00

EqualEnergy and I tried this out, and it's a very clever combination of Pong and Arkanoid. Very cool and well-executed!

zapturk 2021-10-10 01:41

@sestren thanks!

ks-zealot 2021-10-10 21:24

Nice style and audio, good idea

skahd 2021-10-12 12:20

the game is nice and would be better if i had friend

khadia 2021-10-13 09:56

Nice work, clean design and feels satisfying to play. Ran smoothly with no issues in browser. Great job!

vladadamm 2021-10-18 21:40

Was curious about this game as I've also made a Pong with some twists for this LD. The Pong & Arkanoid gameplay ended up going very well together imo. Local multiplayer games aren't always easy to test in jams, though I guess I managed this one not too badly. The game mechanics felt good overall. The graphic style works well, same with the music and sound effects (though the loop might get a bit repetitive overtime). For the downsides/possible improvement points, as others said before, an AI could have been nice to play alone (a Pong AI in itself isn't hard to do, though what's hard is to balance it right and not make it too strong/bad). Another point might be the 30 Bricks win condition seems quite unlikely/very hard to do compared to the points win.
