Theme announced! Sacrifices must be made. I actually voted for this one! If only I'd come up with some ideas for it at the same time xD
Ideas left on the cutting room floor: Cthulhu cultist dating sim in which you must sacrifice your dates and hide your dark secrets from future dates, “Blood Gun”: shoot bullets made of your blood, dungeon crawler in which you start off powerful but give up a power to open each new level so you’re weakest when you fight the final boss
Hard at work on "Festivus": make offerings to the gods to bring honor to your village in a week-long celebration. Will you win the favor of your pantheon, or incur their wrath? Top-down action-adventure.
Tilesets for 2 environments done; combat done and looting (almost) done
We are wrapping it up for the weekend. We had a lot of fun and got quite a lot done this time! Game mechanics are mostly in place and about 75% of environment art is done together with some sprites. We'll see how much further we can get in the next couple of evenings!
Great job, team (mostly Wombat)!! Looking forward to seeing a more complete post-Jam game in the coming weeks :)
We hope you enjoy the jam version of our game! Controls etc are hopefully intuitive enough to figure out. The game should be completeable, albeit possibly in need of some balancing. As usual, we had lots more ideas for content that we didn’t get the chance to include; stay tuned for a post-jam version! Thanks for playing :)
I thought this was very clever, well done :)
What an interesting and fresh idea, super cute, loved the "multiplayer" aspect. Really good art and music. Great job!
Very cute, loved the characters and dialogue!
Hey, great job on your game! Really impressed with the level of polish, especially art and music. Parts of the screen were cut off for me though (playing in chrome browser on ios), which made it impossible to see the depth counter, so I didn't play very far. Still an obviously very good game! Edit: I agree that mouse-over tooltips would go a long way to helping figure out what to do :)
Great job, art and music were beautiful, super impressive you made this solo!! I would have liked the tomatoes to stack, also the shaking was pretty strong (I wonder if it could be dialed down just a little), but these are super minor points. Your game was so immersive, I honestly wasn't expecting it to end so quickly and it took me a minute to understand the story arc. Very sad, but neat and made sense, a lot conveyed with few words. Well done :)
Wow, you did this solo in 48 hours, amazing! Great job on the visual design, the art was simple but clear and conveyed exactly what it needed to. Sound effects would have been a nice cherry on top, but really great even without. I really have no criticism except I wanted there to be more :)
Wow, well done! The game looks and works great. It took me a while to figure out what to do, partly because I had an issue being unable to communicate with the hub at first (playing in Chrome browser) but after reading other comments and restarting it seemed fine. I must admit I didn't end up finishing it, but what I did play was very smooth and really impressive for a jam game. Great job!
Well done pulling all this together in only 48 hours! I felt like additional stability mechanics could have really helped sell the theme (move back and forth to balance a wobbly glass? the room is tipping sideways? a slippery puddle instead of some mice?) but a complete game which plays smoothly for an impressive compo submission in any case!
A fun-sounding concept and I can imagine the gameplay being interesting once you get a few phones in. But I took a try or two to figure out how to plug in cables ... then couldn't figure out what to do after that, sorry! Possibly some in-game feedback (hint popups?) would have helped. Anyway, a neat idea.
Looks good, plays smooth and straightforward. I really wanted to talk to the ghost?? horses: ghost horses, what is your deal?? Couldn't figure out what to do after eating all the apples, but stumbled on the path in the top right corner by accident. Well done!
Nice work, clean design and feels satisfying to play. Ran smoothly with no issues in browser. Great job!
Great job on the art and music and writing, as well as the code, all in compo! Wanted to mouse click at first but given that there was no time pressure, I thought the keyboard controls were fine. The only difficulty I had was with the font being inconsistent and a bit hard to read. Impressive compo submission though! I was sad to disappoint so many customers (the BBB is getting a lot of reports about me), but I imagine this could be a fun little game if you get the chance to add depth to it later on. Well done!
Worked fine for me, and I liked the aesthetic. Nice work! The loading text was fun the first time, but would have been nice to have a "skip" option for subsequent attempts (yes, I clicked the "do not click" button). Anyway, well done on the submission!
Beautiful art and sound, lovely aesthetic! I do also appreciate the convenience of playing in browser with mouse only. I get that it's intended to be hard and complex but a little more feedback could go a long way to enticing a new player to persist with it. I like the previous commenter's idea of introducing the pieces gradually. Anyway, what an impressive submission! Well done.
Well done getting the core game done in only 48 hours! I can see there's lots of potential to build on here. Nice work!
LOVE the art and music. Great design and very appealing concept overall. Though it felt a bit cheaty to just release the airplanes under the table and get the same score as letting them whimsically fly off among the cubicles. A tiny bit more depth could also go a long way, eg. what if there's something you can do to put the boss to sleep for longer? Like click away at your mouse or type some nonsense on your keyboard? Anyway, loved it, well done.
Nice work! The text at the beginning was hard to read, but I liked your style, and the CRT filter was a slick addition to that. Well done.
Amazing. Love the vibe (art and music), and such an elegant concept. Light on content, but that is very understandable for a 72 hour jam ... the important thing is that the core elements are there to build on (and incredibly polished). So impressed! Well done!
Well done on a great jam entry, there is a lot here and really well polished. Worked great for me in Chrome. I didn't see an in-game guide on how to make the coffees, and am not much of a coffee drinker myself, so had to guess the recipes by trial and error! It was fun and I love that it's 2 player. Wonderful tribute to Overcooked. Great job!
Wow! This is such an impressive jam effort. Great job on the looney tunes retro cartoon aesthetic. Really great take on the theme too, pushing the clock hand around the circle was a clever core mechanic for an arcade-style game like this. I thought it would have been nice to be able to jump over it (maybe you could but I failed haha), but is a neat feature of the gameplay as is. Well done!!
I was unable to open the download for macOS (message saying can't be opened, "This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information"). Played a bit in browser; beautiful art and music, super polished. Really well done :)
@lincoln-sin thanks for the tip, will give it a try when I get the chance … here’s a post that might be relevant to the issue too? https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/$304157/an-important-notice-for-mac-players-repost-for-51
Nice simple concept, works great, easy to understand. Well done!
Nice idea, all seemed to work as described, looks good. The embedded version didn't load for me, but the html5 link was fine. It would have been great to control the camera and be able to zoom out, also I found Fred a little hard to control (not his fault really, he's an egg!) Overall loved the concept!
Love everything about this game. Concept, gameplay, art, music, all 100%. Runs great. I also love that there is so much scope here to expand (add more levels/rooms!) Only suggestions would be clarify the ending (I wasn't sure if I was done or if I had to do something else) and make it more obvious that you've collected a couple of the items (perhaps it would help if they fell on the ground instead of going straight to your hand). Overall excellent job, one of my favourites so far!
Nice idea for the theme, really impressed you pulled off so many different games in one jam! I agree with other commenters the pumpkin catch game was the most fun and the zombie platformer was the hardest :) Awesome job!
Love the concept, and the aesthetic you chose to go with it. I agree with the commenter above that the mechanic is too complicated for a 10 second cycle, also agree with your reply that a pause option would go a long way towards solving that. Alternatively I wonder whether having the traits controlled by a single locus (ie a 2x2 punnet square) could be a better fit with the 10s rule (or be used as a tutorial/intro level). I would have liked to have a picture of the ideal snake (ie. phenotype that I am aiming for) so I could then work on building it, but I appreciate that the open exploration is a stylistic choice that you made and respect that. Game runs great, controls work great, really good jam submission - well done!
@beats haha, the tractor beam is too hard for me, too. Thanks for playing our game :)
Excellent entry, A+ for art and story, loved the ending! Some visual bugs with the boss health bar being a) too big for the window and b) going on top of some UI elements but under others. As others have noted, the economy could use some tweaking (and/or extra mechanics added, maybe you have to water or fertilise the trees to keep them shooting?), currently maxing out all trees leaves you with nothing to do for the latter part of the game. But a nice tower defense game and a nice take on the theme. Well done!
Interesting idea for a game, and a nice take on the theme! Loved the soundtrack. I tried figuring out the highest scoring crop and trying to reach it in the map, almost made it to 6/6 before running out of time. Hitting arrows got a bit repetitive after a while, it could be cool if each type of crop could have a different mini-game to harvest it or something? But that would go past the scope of a game jam, and you've already done incredibly well with this game in the time available. Super impressive, congratulations!
Interesting game idea and take on the theme! Agree with other commenters that a tutorial level or two would really help players access your gameplay ... maybe one in which you just manage the crops, then introduce slime on the next level? Could also use some feedback on death (i.e. what killed you and a tip on how to avoid that next time). But I understand it's very hard to fit these kinds of features into a game jam in favour of getting the core game loop working, which you've succeeded at very well. Great job and congrats on your game!
That was certainly something, haha. You could pitch this to Adult Swim (do they still do games or am I showing my age here?) Found it too easy towards the end when the customers are abundant, as others have commented already. Sound effects and animation on the toilets were 100%, as was "progress bar". Very gross, very funny, well done!
Great game, definitely offering the most bang for buck of the LD52 games I've played so far. Agree with others the breath could use some extra tweaking to make it feel more powerful. Loved your programmer art and the 8 bit atmosphere overall, found it very clean and also entertaining :)
This kept me playing longest out of all the LD52 games I've tried so far! Super clear and simple and easy to get on board but lots of content packed in. Not the most innovative idea, but excellent job on the execution, delivering a very solid clicker experience. Especially liked your visual design, nice and consistent. Well done!
Lovely soundtrack and ambience! It took me a couple of tries to figure out what to do but straightforward and all good once I figured it out (had better luck with the green sun than what I thought was blue sun but possibly I was mistaken?) It was a bit hard to see what was going on sometimes (environment very dark and lens flare got in the way a bit), I wonder if having lights on the ship/cube might help? Very impressive visuals anyway, beautiful sky box and ripple effect on sun, and I especially appreciated the fissured planet with the trees growing inside the canyons. Well done!
Harsh! But succeeds really well at making the point (your life is hard and up to chance). Well done on your compo game!
