Great aesthetics and soundtrack. Everything felt really cohesive and harmonic, making the game as a whole have a personality. The little easter egg was also pretty fun.

Something I'm a bit more torn in is the absence of indicators of how many coins the player needs to go through a certain door. On one hand, it's a bit frustrating to spend half a loop to get to a door just to find it closed. On the other hand, it forces the player to memorize each location and try it out after getting a new coin. So that's nice.

Anyway, overall, I liked this game.

zakaria 2021-10-05 01:00

I love the gamefeel and the mood of this game i enjoyed it a lot ^^ good work!

david-bohan 2021-10-05 04:04

I like the CRT filter you have on the game, and the music is actually very excellent. I wasn't sure what the goal of the game was, and it took some thinking to finally figure it out. A nice submission though. Congrats!

owinmowe 2021-10-05 04:18

Really like the aesthetic of this game.

zuhairghias 2021-10-05 04:18

That was sick. Loved the CRT scan line effect and the general retro aesthetic. I loled at that one room XD

professir 2021-10-05 04:24

Very cool CRT and slight fish eye -- nice work

tobold-h 2021-10-05 09:42

That was super fun to play! The "unstable" mechanics were nicely integrated, and as everyone else has said, the aesthetics were awesome.

quoc 2021-10-05 22:30

Wow that is a nice idea. Love the mechanics and the sweet graphic! Nice game guys.

metalfox-dioxymore 2021-10-05 22:30

Very cool game with a nice look and a clean gameplay ! A really solid entry, good job =) !

jel2217 2021-10-06 02:48

Cool concept and graphics!

yumao 2021-10-06 03:52

Love the CRT effect and the overall atmosphere!

sceef 2021-10-06 05:26

love this pixelart

wyl-team 2021-10-06 05:34

platformer and metroidvania in mini version. I like it!

banksho 2021-10-06 05:38

Really like this game and the aesthetics. Not gonna like though, it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that I could go through the door after collecting the first coin.

enya454 2021-10-06 05:39

Great pixel art, simple game play, great game. Some parts were a bit tedious to do like the part where the lights turn of but overall it was a good game.

misterpapi 2021-10-06 05:47

Amazing graphics but felt a little lacking in regards to the theme and mechanics as a whole. The atmosphere you've created can definitely lend itself to a lot of interesting gameplay elements especially with regards to the distortion. Good work!

jpatchz 2021-10-06 08:25

I really love the concept. The gameplay is very cool. After many tries I was finally able to get to the and. I would add a "go to base" button, because sometimes when I do many mistakes, I already know that I won't get to the key in time.

vir 2021-10-06 20:33

The first thing that took my attention was the shader you guys are using. What do you call that effect... I must know and add to my collection!

jaspior 2021-10-06 21:08

@vir, it's crt effect, to mimic old tube

I've studied some shader at https://godotshaders.com/, there are lots of them with cc0 license (public domain) wich is good

In theory, use change the UV of the viewport rect and in the fragment use a sinoidal function to make the scanlines.

If I remerber correctly, Godot use a slightly easy language for shaders. For Unity, you can try something like this:

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/vfx/shaders/fullscreen-camera-effects/ultimate-crt-80048

https://luka712.github.io/2018/07/21/CRT-effect-Shadertoy-Unity/ -> this one is well documented

jaspior 2021-10-06 21:14

Also, thank you all for the feedback.

@jpatchz , We may add some way to restart the loop. Since the main character is in a curse, just asking for the entity to bring it back doesn't fit thematically.

I will work a lttle more in this game after the LD's ending. I believe that an indicator of the number of orbs needed to open doors can solve some problems. However, adding indicators to where to proceed and what to do breaks the mood of the game a little, so a first and shorter level may be ok. Adding some stopwatcher to think without wasting all your time may be an addition in the future.

As an aesthetic, I would like to put an rewind effect in the entity returning hand, since it's possible that the rewind and looping isn't so clear for every player.

Thank you all again!

maxathon 2021-10-06 21:20

Great job! Very tight.

valentines 2021-10-06 21:20

Cool game!! I like that it's fast paced and kinda challenging, I had fun playing it. Also the filter looks cool

liamcolee 2021-10-06 21:24

NGL i would have played more, but the CRT effect had me nauseous. really cool shader though, looks very nice when not moving XD

jpatchz 2021-10-07 00:00

@jaspior the rewind effect would be really nice. I didn't realise each door needed a X amount of keys. I thought there was an unique key for each door.

tattomoosa 2021-10-07 03:51

The CRT filter was very cool. As another comment mentioned I wish the door cost was in the UI somehow. Cool how the different areas had different effects (like slow, dark, etc).

neowhoru 2021-10-07 04:42

This was challenging but i made it :D I really like this concept and also of the different areas in the level when everything turns slower or become darker. Really great visual effects.

nardandas 2021-10-07 06:09

I agree with a lot of the feedback and a way to force-go-back. I also think the game could use a few more dead ends! I had fun exploring, and I wanted more, even if there weren't going to be rewards. I also think a little more non-linearity would be nice.

thegamerasd 2021-10-07 10:06

Cool game, I like the mechanics.

deltamain 2021-10-08 12:12

Awesome game with interesting gameplay! Liked that entity mechanics. Had some misunterstanding with doors mechanics for some time. Also there is a bug, that if i press "up" really fast - i can jump in the air (maybe raycast collision will help with this).

jaspior 2021-10-08 18:30

Thank you @deltamain , I'll look at the code. there may be some issues with the condition for the jump and coyote time.

soulo 2021-10-08 20:04

The game is short, but completed. The sounds are a bit annoying (but it's better than having no sounds)

c64cosmin 2021-10-08 22:26

Really cute game, really liked the time limit, sometimes it's super useful, really cool that I've met the developers. Nice music, it really adds to the time limit feeling. The shaders were also great! Glad to see another Godot entry <3

onesmallboy 2021-10-09 07:44

Liked the art quite a lot and the filter

13x666 2021-10-09 11:10

There's no way to tell which doors are unlocked, so after you get another orb you dive right back into the chore of checking every door one by one to see which will open — it's not a huge problem in this game because it's relatively short, but if this mechanic was used to create a bigger game, some kind of indication would probably be needed, in my opinion.

I really appreciated the stylish visuals, the way music changes in altered sections, the “meet the devs” Easter Egg, it's a great entry, thanks!

markveligod 2021-10-09 13:45

Ahh it's just amazing graphics. Great job!

blutgruppedigital 2021-10-09 13:47

Nice filter, time balance to get to the "keys" is on point! Was getting quite nervous :D

thieme55 2021-10-09 13:56

Great gameplay idea! Also really enyoyed the music/sounds

simonl 2021-10-10 15:30

I loved the CRT optics and the music. The game had a very cohesive atmosphere in general. I actually enjoyed the game mechanics where you make a tiny progress and start again at the beginning over an over.

For improvement, I can only mention the jump sound which was always a little late.

Awesome submission!

Edit: I forgot the most important part: I genuinely had fun playing!

chillertyp 2021-10-10 16:49

Cool design. The candles remind me of Castlevania.

hori 2021-10-10 16:50

Enyoed the game, but the thing with opening doors wasn't obvious. But overall, liked the vibes it gives.

khadia 2021-10-13 10:05

Nice work! The text at the beginning was hard to read, but I liked your style, and the CRT filter was a slick addition to that. Well done.

cedric86 2021-10-14 20:20

Phew got rid of the curse. Very good entry. Realy enjoyed this one. Great bgm and controls. The dark section was a bit of a pain but got lucky after a while. Well done. Keep it up.

rewzu 2021-10-19 13:09

I like the art style. Audio matches it well. Really neat idea for a platformer! Some more clues on how to open gates would be great. Overall good job!

mainvar 2021-10-20 11:59

I liked CRT optics and the music, nice work
