We hope you enjoy the jam version of our game! Controls etc are hopefully intuitive enough to figure out. The game should be completeable, albeit possibly in need of some balancing. As usual, we had lots more ideas for content that we didn’t get the chance to include; stay tuned for a post-jam version! Thanks for playing :)

What a great game! It´s really hard, but really fun. I love it. If you add some atmospheric audio and/or music and polish the UI a bit, this could be a very successful commercial game. Art direction is also very nice. Minimalistic, but pretty.

This game got some huge potential, but very hard. Wasn't sure what to do until zombies attacked me. A bit more player feedback is required here. Music and sound effects can add to your atmosphere. But great concept.

This is actually incredibly addictive. The UI took a long time to figure out but I'm now in love with the combat system (wasp swarm is overpowered though tbh). I can't tell if it's intended or not, but there's a brief window during an enemy's turn where you can use an ability before it hits you, and it creates these great opportunities for last-second comebacks when you're backed into a corner. Overall a fantastic game.

Cool game, but a bit hard! Was easier when I died and got the shotgun instead of the shovel though. Took me a while to figure out I needed to double click the places to get the battles up.

At first I didn't get the combat system, but once I realised that the different block colours corresponded to different action points it was really nice. Some explanation of that system would be good (even if it's just in the text on this page). It would be nice to have a heal action as well. Also, the overworld was confusing to me. Sometimes when I move, there is no combat, and sometimes there is? And I can flee? I'm not sure where I'm supposed to go. I expected that there would be a non-skippable combat encounter at each location, and the locations would lead me towards some kind of boss room where I fight a final battle and the game is over. Instead it seemed to be just random nodes with random encounters leading nowhere?

I'm sure I'm just missing something, but regardless, the combat system was awesome. Nice game!

EDIT: Also, there was no audio for me, so presuming that wasn't a bug, you guys should remove the audio category here so you don't get rated on it.

beardywombat 2020-10-06 23:02

@wheybags Thanks for the feedback, I have added some hints to the text. You are correct there is no sound, but I forgot to opt out of audio and I can't change that anymore.

The tile design and core gameplay is great and the overworld nicely integrated for such a short development time.

Really nice feel to this  really liked the combination with the top side graveyard view  a bit on the tough side

Very nice graphics for this idea, many games with a similar idea lacked good graphics and beautiful art, good experience!

samdemaine 2020-10-08 15:27

Graphics are brilliant, could defo see this going on mobile

I rated this game fairly well. It's a smart idea, and once I "got" it I was really able to appreciate how innovative and original this idea is, but until there's some better player guidance I have difficulty labeling this game as "fun". Not that all games have to be of course, but I think it's just kind of frustrating for new players the way it is right now, which is not ideal

Great game! Took a while to figure out how exactly it works but it was pretty fun once I got it. Some feedback: 1. You can use actions while animations are still happening and that allows you to kill/dodge enemy when it is supposed to attack but before attack actually happens, potentially avoiding damage you would recieve. Was that intentional? 2. Madness and corruptions tiles seemed to appear way too often. It is really nice thematically, making them unavoidable but that makes gameplay feel too random at times. I think making some abilities that control the board state would be nice. Something like: "Remove all corruption tiles in 3x3 area but gain madness for each of them" or something like that. Basically, keeps both of them a problem and makes them unavoidable but makes combat a bit more managable. 3. That happened only once but there was a 3 tile row on the board but it didn't count for some reason. 4. You haven't opted out of the audio category but the game didn't seem to have any sound? Was that a problem on my end? 5. Obviously some more guidance would be helpful but that's a problem for almost every LD game. But if you're going to make post LD version you should probably make some things more clear. Examples: make it clear which color is which resource, explain what + and - values near resources mean, explaining how corruption and madness work, make it more clear what affects + and - values (I assumed it was corruption and madness effects that changed them?)

I was once addicted to Puzzle Quest and it is pleasant for me to see a puzzle game with Cthulhu theme. This game brings decent experience and has abundant content. The icon design achieves great flavor and atmosphere, while it might be better if there were some text hints, because sometimes I just forget what an icon represents.

aflatthrasher 2020-10-11 18:25

This was great. Lots of fun. I do agree that it might be better with SOME way to heal (even if it's not common). Maybe it's in there, but if it is, I never found it.

Fresh look on match3\combat genre!

Game really could use some sounds and a bit more readable graphics: it is a bit hard to differ elements when they have the same shape and similar colors.

Nevertheless, good job! I'd download something like this from store and watch loads of ads, if not donate.
