LD39 — Running out of Power

Ride Out by Stending 2017-08-07T16:28:49Z

I fully expected not to like this game and went in with that thought in my mind. Then, half an hour later, I'm beating it because I was having a blast and didn't want to stop until it was over. Although it's a pretty basic runner game, the thing that did it for me was the music syncing with the game so well. VERY good job both with the soundtrack and level design, as they played together very nicely, overall. The only place where this didn't work right was C7 and, because of that, it was my roadblock for a while. I almost quit at that point, but did eventually get past it and everything went back to feeling right after that. I'm not sure what exactly was wrong with that level, but it just felt off and that was causing me to miss button-presses. But,, that was a blip in an otherwise great game. I was very impressed with this one, I can't say that enough.

Sunpoint Salvage by Mike Cullingham 2017-08-03T19:13:04Z

Fun little idea for a puzzler. Have to admit I got stuck on the first post-jam level (maybe it had something to do with the extra tether, but I just couldn't figure out how to get out of there), but even so, liked the idea and think you could get a good number of levels using just these basics.

this must be the place by lycaon 2017-08-01T21:54:37Z

I won't lie, I was really confused by this game.

Power Synergy by Turkey 2017-08-11T15:20:01Z

FYI, I could not rate this game as I could not see most of the screen. I could only see 4 rows of the board.

Lola's Barkade by A-Flat Miner Studios 2017-08-03T19:06:23Z

@aj-weeks Oof, sorry about that error window. I haven't run into it in any testing, so hopefully it's really rare and I'm not just getting lucky (unlucky?) in general testing.

Lola's Barkade by A-Flat Miner Studios 2017-08-11T22:18:16Z

Yes, @rixud, no win condition. Just try to last as long as you can!

Heat Death by Chao 2017-08-11T15:41:53Z

Took a bit to figure it out and the randomness REALLY affected what I could and couldn't do, but once I got the hang of it, it was a pretty fun game. My major frustration was that it seemed like the humans had a longer range on their lasers than I did, but still moved at the same rate I did, so that I could get killed without a chance to actually protect myself (especially early on). Other than those situations, though, well done.

Sabotage by image_31 2017-08-09T16:28:18Z

Fun little game. Tough, too, at least while you figure out what's going on and what to do. I like games like this where you basically figure out a plan by trying different things until you figure out what actually works.

Static Man by tifu 2017-08-11T15:31:56Z

Man, that was tough. It was fun, but tough. I think an easier mode to get used to it would have been very nice. But, controls worked well, mood was great, felt the ghost-thing was good (although perhaps going through tables was a little overpowered, but maybe I just needed to get better at the game). Felt like I was constantly being hunted, which was nice and what I think you were going for.

Power Runners by Steel_Dev 2017-08-03T19:31:16Z

Very fun game, controls were clean and it was easy to figure out and get into it. Just something to think about in the future: By having the enemies always shoot at the level you are at and always come out in the same spot and walk the same path, it makes levels where the enemies were always on your height harder than levels where you have multiple heights to be at. This makes level 1 more difficult than level 2, or at least it was for me. Just something to keep in mind when making later games. That wasn't a game breaker or anything and, as I said, I enjoyed your game, it was just something that popped into my head when I was playing level 2. Since it seemed a useful design concept to me, I felt I'd share it.

Basement Dweller by PokeRaySuper 2017-08-01T20:47:39Z

Fun game. It wasn't quite clear to me at first what the flashlight did (though I figured it out after dying). I personally would have liked for finding batteries to work a little more often/sooner BUT that could just be me being bad at the game . Really did enjoy it, keep it up!

Plugzzz by mamoniem 2017-08-07T15:30:42Z

Really good game and a good choice for a jam. I feel like the idea wouldn't be good for a full-fledged game without more mechanics (levels would quickly start to feel the same), but for a jam, you were able to make a good variety of levels with just the minimal mechanics. So great job scoping your project. Physics was well done. Graphics and audio were awesome.

Deep Raider by kr4ft3r 2017-08-09T16:40:25Z

As most said, other than the story, great atmosphere. Sounds and graphics really conveyed that "stuck deep down in the ocean with creepy things" feel. I did feel it was a little too ambiguous as to how to accomplish the goal of finding the treasure, though.

The Scrapyard by Jake Shaw 2017-08-03T19:04:57Z

I liked the look, but have to agree the controls were a little slippery. Only other complaint would be that sometimes the "press e to regain power" message showed up when you weren't in the right position to regain power (and it thus didn't work). Other than those two little things, everything went smoothly and, like I said, looked good.

Beachside Battery by Dayna Stevenson 2017-08-01T21:44:29Z

VERY good art style, it fit things very well. The theme idea was great too. Not only were you constantly running out of energy (to fit the literal definition), but playing power chords was just a fun play on the words. Typing in the letters to do your abilities was a great idea, but there were two problems that hurt the gameplay. The first was that I think the energy budget was a little low. It was probably about right if you weren't constantly losing energy, but since you were also constantly draining, it felt a little short. Also, it was really just too slow at times. I think your slowest speed was alright, but during the easy parts (just jumping over stuff), it got boring if I had to jump over more than a couple of things. This could have been solved by increasing the fast speed by a significant amount (doubling? somewhere around there I think). Despite the slow movement, when the going was a little tougher it was still an enjoyable game.

Danger Forever by BLK Dragon 2017-08-07T15:56:54Z

So, am I top score now with 1.3 million? Gotcha, @fusionnist! Also, I may have gotten a bit lucky with power orb spawning .

I ran into some weirdness, and I think it's what was causing the problem for @mamoniem. As I was trying to figure out controls, I naturally went to WASD first and tried all the keys on the left-hand side. Unfortunately, there were a number of keys that just caused the game to immediately crash, including left shift and 'w'. If I hadn't stumbled upon using the arrows and ctrl keys next, I'd probably have gotten frustrated and not rated the game (would have left a comment saying why, of course).

All that said, I did like the game. Graphics were good, although, as you mention above, they were really repetitive (particularly if you play for more than a couple of minutes). Sounds were exactly what I wanted. Gameplay was rough at times, but since there was a quick restart and it was meant to be a short-run game, it was okay. If I thought a particular run was too difficult and not fun, it didn't last long anyway and I got another run right after. So that was alright.

Overall, this is exactly what I expected going in and I played enough to get a score over a million, so that tells you that I enjoyed it.

The Final Boss: Running Out of Powers by n.feofentov 2017-08-01T21:17:29Z

So I guess I'm the first rate, so I get to not just repeat comments this time . I really liked this game. It was difficult (but it's basically a bullet hell game, so of course it's difficult), but still a lot of fun. I really liked the fact that the powers went away was not the same every time, so each game required slightly different strategy (you could play more offensively with the barrier up, for example). Really nice take on the theme, as well. My only complaint was more on me than you, honestly. I didn't realize at first that the boss was teleporting to the side rooms, I thought he would end up back in the middle after I killed some guys. I eventually figured it out when I ran into a side room for safety and he was there. Then, after I quit playing I realized you mention it in your post above. Oops. But even with that frustration, it was a lot of fun. And scoping the game to just one boss is a great way to handle the time constraints, so good idea there.

Funhouse Blackout by AndideBob 2017-08-01T20:59:51Z

Neat little game. I agree with @landberglife and @eott that the tuning is a little tight. Some more battery would have made it a bit more enjoyable (as you could do a little more in one run). However, since you have the same map every time, it does get a little better because you can just memorize the map/draw it out by hand as you go. If the goal was to have a game that would be completed in multiple sessions when you memorized/drew the map, then the tuning is actually probably okay. I really enjoyed myself with this one and am planning on going back to it when I have a pen/paper on hand and any game that makes me want to go back is a good one in a jam.

Times New Robots by Alex Tantum 2017-08-07T15:43:07Z

A great idea and I love the concept. Implementation was a little rough around the edges, but that's okay. The main issues really were mostly balancing. Once I figured out good placement for the first three batteries, the game got easier. Once I had enough batteries to power everything, the game got simple. Maybe don't drop as many batteries or make them disappear. I used my gun once at the very beginning and then realized it was way better to just run around and collect batteries. But, it's a jam, so if your main issues are balance issues, you're doing pretty good. As mentioned, the cursor thing after you died was kind of annoying, but I figured out if I just hit escape a few times, the cursor eventually showed up. Graphics and music were great and, like I said, I love the concept of an FPS tower defense.

R0m-B4 by Hugh Williams 2017-08-09T16:54:25Z

Had fun with this puzzle game. Figuring out a path took a bit and often required some deaths, but that was okay, as it was still fun. Only frustration was the scan length. I think it would have been better to just let it scan until the user hits a button again. Sometimes I found myself needing more time to look at it and other times I was annoyed because I needed just a quick reminder and had to sit through a few seconds of scanning. As I said, though, it was fine other than that little bit.

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Air Pressure by zgragselus 2017-12-13T16:07:33Z

At first I was really, really confused. After a game or so, it made so much more sense. A little bit of tutorial would have been helpful, though it wouldn't need a full one, as a lot of it is definitely intuitive. Overall, though, very enjoyable game. Looks good, fun to play, good difficulty increase.

Power Overwhelming by Pecolyte 2017-12-13T15:48:53Z

Man, level 7 was rough. Fun, though. Very nice little mechanic for a puzzle game. I disagree that having exact lines of where you go would be good. Part of the fun was having to figure out what exactly would happen. Perhaps a line showing the exact direction you would go, but not how far you would go (or how big the explosion would be).

Eatly by zenwraight 2017-12-15T21:55:46Z

Has a lot of potential. Way too short. If it was longer and later levels provided a bit more (either through level design or more mechanics), it could be great. Other than the length, was a fun idea that I enjoyed it enough to play it through a few times, even after beating it.

It's the Wurst by A-Flat Miner Studios 2017-12-06T21:26:42Z

@rakart Yeah, went back and forth a lot on the rate of fire. It got incredibly easy if we got it too high. My guess is that I overtuned that based on initial feedback (totally my fault there, no blame to teammates). Thanks for the comment!

Fleet Commander by MagmaFortress 2017-12-17T15:26:01Z

Simple, yet fun. I really enjoyed trying to handle a bunch of ships at the same time. The alarm sound, although slightly annoying, felt right because it made me pay attention every time. Maybe a little quick on the difficulty spike.

Just eat just enough by zeu31 2017-12-06T20:52:59Z

I was worried on reading the description that it would hit a point where you got one shot, then had to wait avoid getting hit until that shot regenerated. But, there were enough enemies and enough "bigger meats" that that made it much better. I think you made the right choice by leaving the food there until you collect it, as it added a little more strategy about when and where you killed enemies (I purposely didn't shoot some until they were in certain areas of the screen). Overall, definitely like this game.

Pirate's Escape by BobbyTables 2017-12-13T15:25:13Z

Looooved building my own ship. I'm a big fan of having things like that. Balancing where you put things and what exactly you purchase added things. Game was a fun little game once I got into the actual gameplay as well. As you mentioned, there was lag occasionally, but it was mostly fine.

SHADOW by niwraD 2017-12-06T20:22:48Z

Very difficult, took a bit to figure out some things. Fun, though. Once I had things down, I quite enjoyed myself.

Milk Hunt by Weizengaming 2017-12-06T21:22:03Z

Enjoyed myself with this one. I liked being a milkman here. At times because of the AI of the cows (at least the big ones), there was just a horde of cows in one spot, which made things really tough. I couldn't decide if I liked that or not, it's just something to consider. I did like having to decide whether it was better to run back without being full with 8 bottles in order to avoid going into a scary spot with too many cows (with the hope the cows would be gone by the time I got back).

Goodnight Sheep by littlecloudflower 2017-12-20T18:50:13Z

At first, I was just thinking "This is a cute little game." Then it got darker. Then it got even more relatable. Then it got to the ending. I loved this. Not normally the type of game I'd go for, but I enjoyed it a lot. Keep it up!

Slithering Secrets by meanmon13 2017-12-15T21:42:48Z

Overall, it was nice. My main complaint was that it felt kind of aimless at times. I had no idea how many more things I had to collect or where they were. That kind of bothered me, but I can see how it would appeal to some. I liked the controls and you set the mood very well. That snake hiss...

Armed Descent by Acr515 2017-12-06T21:03:29Z

Fun little game. Kind of tough. I liked the idea of picking up more ammo lowering your health, but I think there just was not enough available ammo. I never felt like I really had a choice because I was often so low on ammo I HAD to pick it up. So, if there was more available ammo, I think I'd have liked it even more. Still liked it, though!

Shapes Are Mean by BlakeMcDeezy 2017-12-12T14:47:04Z

Very interesting game. My main complaint is that when you get two light beams a little too close together, it DRASTICALLY increases the difficulty, particularly of the squares (since it takes so long to get them to turn). Sound was killer, game was fun, and the idea was innovative. Graat job!

LD42 — Running out of space

Colony Collapse by fantasywiz54 2018-08-21T15:37:37Z

Good game, though does need some balancing. It was rather easy to win even if you made some mistakes (For example, I didn't have enough food to keep people alive pretty early and was still able to win). Upping the trash generation and perhaps having a way to destroy buildings to reclaim power would help keep the game going, I think. Still, like I said, I liked it and I think it was a nice variation on the genre.

Disembodied by MouthlessGames 2018-08-14T19:21:31Z

Totally not what I was expecting. Loved it. Great job getting this done in 3 days.

Ultimate Cave Of Dangers by gaspard 2018-08-21T15:29:35Z

Good basic concept, but could use as few touches here and there which would make it better. As was mentioned above, the controls are rough. It never felt like I knew exactly how fast I would move and when I would stop. Jumping with the up arrow (especially with wall jump) felt awkward. Running into a zombie sometimes shot me straight down, straight up, or to what felt like a random direction. It was also slightly annoying that I had to close and reopen whenever I died. That said, I did play it quite a few times because, despite the flaws, it was a fun little game. As far as I could determine, you could never be completely stuck, despite the randomness of the level design. I enjoyed killing the zombies when I wasn't flying all over the place and the water constantly rising gave a good feeling of danger.

The Space Bar by s1lv3r Dr4g0n Games 2018-08-14T20:51:43Z

I'm not really sure what's going on and can't really figure it out. You may want to put a little better instructions. I know it's a prototype, but is there a goal? Or are you just messing around with the going back and forth between the two views? If you update with more info, I'd love to see it. I like the concept of switching between the 2d and 3d views, just don't know if there's any real game there yet.

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T18:55:33Z

Overall well done. Good use of sound. The two bugs don't really hurt the game much (and at least one helps the computer and one hurts it, so it's a bit of a balance). My only complaints, and they are very mild, were that by the end, I was slightly annoyed that the rolling of the numbers took so long and it sometimes was tough to find a number to check it because they weren't in order. If you do anything after the jam with this, the game is ripe for more modes (2 player, timed turns, target score instead of # of turns, etc.).

Dark Colosseum by BinarySpark 2018-08-14T21:02:15Z

Very well made game for a weekend's work. Nice take on the genre. I played with a game pad and it worked great for the controls. However, one complaint is that if you allow gamepad controls, it's always best to allow the gamepad to control the menu as well (it was jarring to go back to the mouse every time). But that's a minor polish issue. One thing I LOVED was how getting to the powerups or the opponents could turn into a puzzle game if the bombs got set off in the right place. It made choosing where to place the bombs when they didn't give a direct advantage an intriguing side strategy.

Dr.Zallynzky by pell707 2018-08-29T13:35:27Z

A nice idea and fun little game. I liked how getting bigger changed how you traversed the level. My one complaint is that you had to start over at level one every time you failed. This was particularly frustrating since this seems the type of game that you need to fail a few times to succeed. But, overall, that is a minor complaint for a very good little game.

M3 (working title) by Jyrms 2018-08-15T19:21:14Z

A very neat idea. A bit hard to purposefully set up matches, but that is the type of thing that might come with a bit more practice. Unique little puzzle game.

Matrice by Cristi Mihai 2018-08-29T13:42:29Z

A good idea, but,as mentioned, not complete enough. You could really get something interesting out of this with a little more work, though. A very good start. That music was fun, too.

Universal Vacuum Cleaner by GameWolves 2018-08-15T20:54:30Z

It was pretty fun to play. One piece of advice would be that it might have been better if the things flew off in the direction you hit them, rather than right back to where they went. It was a little odd to hit something from below and have it swing off to the right. That didn't really affect the gameplay, though, which was a lot of fun. Was a little slow at first, but once it got going it kept me on my toes.

Junk Dealerz by Lodugh 2018-08-15T20:49:24Z

Looks good. Liked it a lot. It was a bit hard to figure out what to do and I think your hunger (or whatever the second bar is) went down a little too fast, but overall still was definitely worth playing for a while.

Warehouse Simulator 2018 by PSiv 2018-08-14T19:05:15Z

A fun little game, if rough around the edges (though that's to be expected, it's a game jam). Felt a little awkward at times and one time I lost one of the boxes through the wall when I threw it at full speed. Other than that, I enjoyed myself.

Clot! by Ghoster 2018-08-15T19:11:13Z

Good idea, but I'm not sure if it was working right. Like the previous commenter mentioned, the character was constantly moving upward, which made it difficult to control, and I could not figure out how to get blocks to actually move. I would dash into them and nothing would happen. Like I said though, it was a good concept and it worked well with the theme.

Shrinking Universe by Renier 2018-08-29T13:50:12Z

I'll reiterate that the controls were a little awkward. But the graphics were fun and, more importantly, the game itself was fun. And kind of addictive. I'd have preferred if the larger planets were slightly easier to break up or showed up slightly less often, but other than that the balance was really well done. Loved it.

SAVE THE PICKLE by Canoo_ 2018-08-14T19:35:48Z

Overall pretty good. Figuring out what was going on at the beginning was a little tough. Might want some sort of instructions the first day.

Space Trap by KeyurRana 2018-08-14T19:46:45Z

Really fun game overall. Everything flows well and seems well-designed. Felt nice getting a better time, which is always good. My one complaint would be the controls. It felt a little awkward not to have traditional twin-stick controls (movement and firing completely separate), but still having to move with keyboard and facing with mouse. Once I got used to it, it wasn't a big deal, but it was awkward at first.

Calorie Killers by big-cow 2018-08-14T20:06:34Z

Fun game. I do think the balance was a little off. Either fewer enemies or enemies with less health would have made it feel a little better. But other than that, fun, as I said. Neat concept thematically.

StarShip:Ludum_Dare by vDovah 2018-08-17T21:04:09Z

Overall, very well done. As mentioned in some other comments, there are some spots where I would have chosen to put more polish over some of the spots where you did so, but a lot of that is personal preference and not that you made a bad choice (it's a game jam, some things will always be sacrificed). I do wish the UI was a little less wordy. It was a bit distracting. But even so, controls were smooth, systems worked well, it was tough but not unbeatable. Really enjoyed myself on this one.

Space Slugs from Planet X by disco 2018-08-14T21:15:53Z

Good art, good music, fun gameplay. This game's a good one. I do wish the slugs spawned a little slower and that you could aim in more than the 4 cardinal directions, but even with those complaints, this is a very good game.

Elevator Operator by Evan Charfauros 2018-08-14T20:23:12Z

Once I got the hang of it, great and somewhat addictive. Liked the little touches of descriptions of the guests. I played 4 times all the way through, or as all the way as I could. For whatever reason, even though it says the goal is 50 guests delivered, I never was able to get 50 to spawn. It was 47 most times, once I got 49. Other than that small issue of never officially winning (I just considered it a win if everything was delivered and moving around did not spawn any more), I loved this.

Delusional Thoughts by aCuriosity 2018-08-15T20:41:37Z

Very fun and addictive. Sounds and the song were perfect. Made the game come alive. Interesting mechanics made me want to stay. Nicely done.

Dont scroll so fast by AlpacaEntertainment 2018-08-15T19:15:11Z

Very good given the time restraints you were under. Could have been a good full project had you had the time. I would have enjoyed playing more levels.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Re:Call by Porcus_Pie 2018-12-18T17:06:12Z

Really fun game. The audio was great. The level design was, overall, good. There were a couple of times where it was mildly annoying because a little mistake would make you restart the entire level (specifically thinking of a spot where you had to throw your body onto a switch but there was no way to retrieve if you missed and it required some jumps to get up there in the first place). But those were uncommon and most of the levels were great. I really liked how you used "tutorial levels" to bring in the different mechanics.

Slime Girls by nervous-composers 2018-12-17T16:15:57Z

This was very enjoyable. Really good level/puzzle design. Had a blast and played it for longer than I should have.

The Final Seconds by mikethewayne 2018-12-17T16:37:26Z

As mentioned, some way of having the defuse code on screen would have been nice. AS it was, it wasn't too bad, I just threw them into notepad. The beep wasn't too bad, but perhaps have it happen less often (maybe every 10 seconds at first, then beeping more often as it got closer to completion).

Soul Harvest by MiltonNH25 2018-12-17T16:49:02Z

Overall, good job. The music added a lot. I would have liked some of the enemies to take fewer hits, but that's just personal preference, not really a strong critique. Was a lot of fun, controls seemed to work pretty well for me. Could probably have made it cost more souls to use the items, as it was I was mostly using the Nova and never really felt like I was close to running out of souls after the first couple of levels.

Wolf Trouble by Bonelazy 2018-12-17T16:23:59Z

Would have liked a little more accurate shooting by default and a little slower difficulty curve at the beginning. Other than that, was a really fun game. Graphics were great.

The Missing Piece by comenoha 2018-12-18T16:38:24Z

Really fun game! Love the art style and the puzzle design. Excellent job taking a few mechanics and turning them into very interesting levels.

Endless Nungeon by Haustgeirr 2018-12-18T16:20:17Z

Good idea and it mostly worked well, but I didn't like that I could fall so far behind if I didn't give up everything. Perhaps allow you to keep and/or sacrifice old abilities even if you replace it with a new weapon/ability? Other than that, though, enjoyed playing this game.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Busy Bee Business by HuvaaKoodia 2020-04-28T17:47:13Z

Very tough, could have used a little bit of something to help with that. Maybe something like starting out with fewer pinecones or something. Looks beautiful and the audio fits it very well. It could be frustrating to not be able to control the bee much at times, but other times that same mechanic made the game work really well. Interesting choice to do the controls like this (and, to be clear, I liked it). Fun little game once I got used to it.

Jerry's Space Berries by mnickels 2020-05-02T18:27:59Z

It was fun. As mentioned, the info screen had a lot, but since it was accessible, it was easy to jump back to it. Once I got the hang of it, it was a bit easy. I think one big thing would be to make it so that either fighters were more expensive or enemies could come from more places and could come more randomly. I just put together a fleet of fighters and parked them near the black hole and had no issues with that.

Good job overall. Even though I found a good strategy early, it still kept my interest.

Shakey Hands by tigerfinch 2020-04-28T17:36:25Z

I had fun (though my hands can be shakey in real life, so that made this tough). It was weird being able to tattoo anywhere (I tattooed the wall) and it wasn't very clear what the goal was or the scoring system. It was also a little annoying trying to fill in some of those shapes (more outline, less filling in would have been nice). But, even with those minor complaints, a fun little game.

Polka Never Dies by A-Flat Miner Studios 2020-04-29T16:36:35Z

@johnnysix and @local-minimum You both hit on one of the things I was personally most disappointed about here. We wanted a bit better of an indicator of timing/what you had pressed, but ran into some time issues (isn't that always the case?). The bouncing ball and the hearts hopefully helped some, but they weren't an ideal solution there. If we ever decide to come back to this, that will probably be the first thing I put on the board to upgrade/fix.

Polka Never Dies by A-Flat Miner Studios 2020-05-05T21:52:37Z

@mattwoelk Each measure is an oom pah pah, yes. The measures alternate between input and output measures. So, in one measure you hit a key on every beat. Then the next measure your inputs will be processed and the characters will move (or not, depending whether you got the input in). And yes, to jump, you hit "up up up" one on each of the three beats.

The ball should be bouncing so that it hits on each of the three input beats and then slides back on each of the three output beats. The hearts should be lighting up when you have input an arrow on the beat properly and then turning off during the output measure once input is being processed.

Hopefully that helps.

My Balloon Friend LD46 by Seraphina 2020-05-03T17:26:13Z

Fun, simple little idea. Was a little frustrating at times (I think having a little more forward motion in the "near vertical" arcs would have helped), but never so frustrating I felt like quitting, so good job.

it lives and grows by JulianMH 2020-05-02T18:02:02Z

Well that was a lot of fun. Simple, but kept my attention. Audio worked very well, too. I had to keep playing until I grew that last tree!

Seeking Power by gustavo.christino 2020-04-28T17:30:11Z

Overall, I enjoyed it. The collision issues could get annoying, but mostly could be worked through (if you are stuck on a wall, you can move up and down a bit, but if you move off the wall you are stuck at that height without being able to jump until you find another wall). Controls were nice. I occasionally got frustrated at slowing down my battery ran down, but it was more frustration that I wasn't fast enough to recharge than frustration at the mechanic itself (so that's a good mechanic in my mind). Keep it up. As I said, I enjoyed this one.

MandaTrouble by mineiwik 2020-04-28T18:08:05Z

Cool idea. I wish there were a way to always see where the yellow guy was (maybe an arrow when offscreen?). Also, did you mean for a legit strategy to be to try to contain the yellow guy with turrets? Surrounding him with a bunch of turrets seemed to keep him in the area, which made it easier for me for a while (eventually there were just too many enemies, but that's expected with these kinds of games). I had a lot of fun playing it, a nice twist on a well-known genre.

Playing with Fire by and 2020-05-02T18:41:43Z

Nice idea and nice implementation. My biggest complaint was the red planes. Given how easily the fire could spread on its own, I rarely wanted to use the red planes. Making them less common or giving you the ability to choose which color would come up next or something like that would have been useful. As it was, I was often just sending half my planes out as hard as I could and desperately hoping to get a blue one. Don't think I didn't have fun, though. Trying to control the game of life with semi-randomly dropping planes on it was definitely entertaining.

Magic Lettuce: The Adventure Begins by Neg99 2020-05-03T17:44:11Z

Overall, this was fun. I ran into one big issue and what I think was a minor bug. The big issue was that after a number of levels (I want to say 7 or 8), the game basically froze. The music still played and the screen would occasionally update, but mostly nothing. I also am not 100% sure, but I think there was a time where I lost 3 rockets without actually shooting any. I had 5 and switched to and from the rocket a few times over the course of a few minutes and never shot one. But by the end I had 1 rocket and 1 in the clip. Still enjoyed the game up until it crashed, just wanted to let you know.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Loop Royale by rayriver 2020-10-17T17:09:49Z

Had some fun with this. I'm curious whether you increased the rate at which the enemies push based on how many there were remaining. The only reason I ask is that I only ever lost with only 2 players left (and I see someone above also lost with 2 players left).

My only complaint was it could take a bit too long to turn 'up' or 'down' so that could make it a little bit frustrating at times.

Loop Royale by rayriver 2020-10-17T21:00:52Z

Oh, it's not too difficult to win. I was just curious because I didn't die earlier and it seemed a weird coincidence. :)

In a roundabout way by tiffi 2020-10-18T18:54:39Z

Fun little resource collection game. My only real complaint is that it felt a little too long. I think it would have felt better either with one less upgrade level or fewer hits needed at the end. Still, though, it was fun, as I said, and I was enjoying myself enough to play to the end, so good job!

Flip-flop by Pete 2020-10-17T17:22:44Z

This was a very cool idea for a puzzle. Really made me think.

Cthuloop by beardywombat 2020-10-11T18:25:49Z

This was great. Lots of fun. I do agree that it might be better with SOME way to heal (even if it's not common). Maybe it's in there, but if it is, I never found it.

Loop2Loop by A-Flat Miner Studios 2020-10-07T18:45:35Z

@lu7cie Just as a note, in case you happen to see this and want to play again: I guess we weren't too clear (we stuck with the short sentence of instructions partially because of time), but your total score at the end of the obstacle course was a combination of both how fast you got there and how many loops you had (and it actually took into account the shape of the loops to an extent). So it was meant to be a sort of balance, having to decide if it was worth the time to go get more loops or not.

Stuck in a Loop (station) by erikiene 2020-10-11T19:27:51Z

Very cool concept. I couldn't figure out what to do in the fourth room, just FYI. But that's the nature of puzzle games, people get stuck sometimes. Sounds like you guys might be planning on continuing to work on this later. Do it!

Loop Factory by Nitero 2020-10-07T19:47:29Z

Very good job. You obviously spent some time on the puzzles and they generally got progressively harder as they went, though not impossible.

It goes on and on and on Dungeon by FancyReckless 2020-10-07T19:33:33Z

I want to second the idea that a little more explanation would have helped. I was stuck on a level until I came here and saw @nitero's comment. Knowing that I could move in more than one direction saved the day (I will say it doesn't help that my mouse is having issues, so maybe I'd have figured it out otherwise?).

Wieder by Bradalli 2020-10-12T22:16:06Z

That was weird. Unique. And fun. Good job, I enjoyed myself here.

Barrel Roll by SpaceGuy99 2020-10-07T20:25:52Z

Very fun, but very hard. I really enjoyed myself and the levels were overall good. I personally would have preferred the jumps to be a little less floaty, but that's all personal preference and I can see why you settled where you did on that.

Great job!

in Dreams you can't find clocks by OmarMoBadr 2020-10-18T19:14:16Z

A very different concept. I enjoyed the story in general, but I do have one big note: some people read faster than others and it can be frustrating when you read some text and just have to sit there staring at it for another few seconds over and over and over. In the future, give some way to advance the text (clicking or hitting a key). It helps the feel a LOT.

Layers of time by Kaldrin 2020-10-11T20:29:20Z

Really enjoyed this. The puzzles took a bit. I started out with controlling via keyboard, but as mentioned the gamepad makes it a LOT more reasonable. The puzzles were well done and had a good increase in difficulty between levels.

Five Keys: Break The Loop - (for LD47) by Fatal-Exit 2020-10-11T17:28:29Z

This was a lot of fun. Obviously, jam time limits this, but this would be great with a lot more levels. Maybe with the ability to warp between (so you didn't have to hit every single level every time, which was fine with 5, but might be too much if there were like 20 levels or something).

Racecar racecaR by Russ Moonbase 2020-10-11T17:38:06Z

This was a fun one. I liked the slightly crazy physics, although I could have used a little bit more control on the turns. The whole time I was thinking "this concept would be insane with more cars" though I don't know if it would be a lot of fun or just extremely frustrating. Definitely would be nuts, though.

The katorga escape by Advarsky 2020-10-07T20:07:23Z

The art was good, as people said. The music was a lot of fun, too!

However, I got stuck. I didn't know what was going to happen, so put a ton of coal into the train. It shot off and I had missed something, so just went in circles. After that point, even when I quit to the title screen and came back, I could never walk around again. Every time I left the train it would give the message and then I wouldn't be on the screen. I had to completely quit out of the game and restart it in order to continue. Just wanted to let you know.

Loopy Loco by ReallyQbert 2020-10-27T12:44:23Z

So, a lot has been said already, but one thing I don't think has been mentioned: I really loved that there were so many potential solutions for some of the levels (especially the later ones). It meant that on some of the later levels, I could choose to really challenge myself and try for a quicker ending or go at a little slower pace and take the longer ways around. Loved that piece of design there.

Loopsky by Matootsy 2020-10-11T18:45:23Z

Really loved the puzzles here. The ability to move stars added a lot to it. Was challenging at times, but never really frustrating. Great job!

Rad Rodent Racing by katajin 2020-10-17T17:28:33Z

That was a lot of fun. Not going to lie, the difficulty would have been bad in a large game meant to be played over and over, as it got pretty easy. But for a quick jam game, it worked out really well. It was tough at first, trying to figure out how to consistently get around curves safely. But by the end, I was flying along and got into a groove. To expand this into a full game, you'd likely need more mechanics to make the difficulty less trivial after getting the hang of it and it probably would have helped if you couldn't just run through the other rodents. But as a jam game, it was great!

Escape from Space by marrs 2020-10-11T17:47:59Z

A really good take on the theme and a really fun game. At first I thought it might get boring when the first few levels only showed a difference of "here's more rings to go through" but you managed to take a simple mechanic and make it very interesting a bit later with all the layering and such.

My only real complaint is that it was possible to get basically get stuck when you run into a loop (which was mentioned before), but other than that, loved it.

Loopy Dungeon by SpaceGuinea Productions 2020-10-07T19:53:23Z

It's a neat idea, but I did have issues playing at times. Having the timer up there was nice, but some sort of way to start the recording of the loop would have been good (maybe just stop letting you place traps and then hit the button to start and let you place traps again). Sometimes I would end up recording some trap setting, which got frustrating.

Good start, though, and like I said, a neat idea.

Another Left Turn by Lebrra 2020-10-12T22:07:38Z

A fun idea. Mostly well done. I had two complaints. The first was that it was hard to consistently know whether I was going to kill an enemy. I think it was that the weapons weren't very accurate (or they weren't strong and/or had much varying damage), but I'm not positive as there wasn't a ton of feedback on that. That was occasionally frustrating. My other complaint was the lack of an obvious on-screen health indicator. I know you could die, as I did the first time. But I was never sure if I was close to death or not.

Other than that, though, good job. I had fun breaking the loop.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Space?Space!SPACE by Meta-link 2021-04-28T22:39:34Z

I really like the idea with the dual resources. The controls felt great. I did feel like the tuning was a little tight on the fuel, as I felt like I had to spend my entire time going straight towards fuel or I would run out and just trust that I got enough health to handle any mistakes (I usually did). I tended to die because I ran into two fuel ships in a row that decided to spend their time inside of planets. So, that got a little frustrating. But it was a small thing and I think could have been fixed with an ever so slightly slower fuel drain. Though tuning is definitely an opinion, so you may find others disagree with me there.

Dimensions by Tarcisiotm 2021-04-27T20:17:23Z

It's always a credit to the creators when I'm playing a game and disappointed when it ends. Very well done, controls were responsive, puzzles were good for "beginning of the game" levels. I think that if you had had more time, you could have had more complex puzzles, but that's what happens sometimes with limited-time events like this. Still, I enjoyed it a lot.

A Watch or The Incredible Shrink by A-Flat Miner Studios 2021-04-28T17:19:29Z

Haha, sounds like my teammates were right and we tuned it a bit hard on the later levels (it's always hard to tell when you've played a level a ton of times, as it always gets easy in the end).

Thanks everyone for the nice feedback so far.

@ljv Yes, my teammate who actually did the sounds had that exact complaint when I had placeholders for everything but getting it right, but I suggested that it was better to do it that way if we couldn't get the perfect noise for "correct" that didn't interfere with the ticking (since part of the point was that if you were doing it right, especially on the earlier levels, you could end up zoning yourself out). I won the debate, but I think that was mostly because we were having it Monday afternoon and time was a factor. I think if we were to ever do more with something like this, we would try to find the right sound that doesn't interfere with the ticking.

Sublunker by Fuzzy Lobster 2021-04-27T01:52:55Z

I really enjoyed this. Very chill, atmospheric game. It took a bit to figure out (it didn't help that the large resolution made it so that I couldn't see some of the text until I managed to get it docked to my screen). Controls were a bit awkward, but in a way that worked and made it seem sub-like. Sharks are jerks and won't leave me alone, but such is the life of a submarine captain, I guess.

Deeper into Carnage by Zelberor 2021-04-27T20:26:06Z

Well, that got crazy there in the later levels. My one big complaint is that I wish there was some feedback when you hit the guys. Either I was consistently missing or I would hit a few times and it seemed like eventually an enemy would fall over, but there was no real feedback that I hit them in the meantime, so I couldn't tell for sure. That would have improved the experience a lot, in the end.

Other than that one big complaint, good job. It was a fun little game. I made it to depth 6 before being overwhelmed (the second time, the first time I just completely messed up and didn't make it too far).

Vile Things by JakobTheQuizGuy 2021-04-30T22:17:00Z

Oh, that was fun! I really enjoyed this. It got very hard at the end. The graphics looked good and I really liked the overall style. Good choices with how you made the vile things (and the hero) look. Felt very alien and still very consistent. One of my favorites so far!

Corla by JUSTCAMH 2021-04-28T22:48:42Z

So, you did right by focusing on the core gameplay. As you said, there were some things missing that would have been nice, but you often have to make sacrifices for the length of a jam and choosing the right ones can be tough. I think you did that here. This game with more menus but less core gameplay would be definitively worse, for example. Keep it up!

It gets worse by elias.s 2021-04-27T20:29:11Z

I didn't rate because I didn't have 4 controllers and thus couldn't play (I didn't notice that note at first and tried, so I got stuck selecting characters, oops). I just wanted to mention that requiring 4 controllers will severely limit how many can play and rate your game fairly.

Nadiria by ArguablyArugula 2021-04-28T22:56:22Z

So, I'm going to start with saying that I'll echo that the levels were a bit too open in places, which could be frustrating. And things could be fidgety with getting stuck at least once. But otherwise very well done. You've taken something which I normally don't like much (floaty, slow controls in platformers) and turned it into the core feature of a game and I enjoyed it. Bravo to you for that.

Bad Faith by Craig Cordeiro 2021-04-27T19:54:42Z

I enjoyed it. A good read. I'm not sure I was here for a text-based story game, but it was fun. Keep up your writing!

Caves and Ropes by Juanv 2021-04-29T22:46:45Z

Well that was interesting. You probably want the reminder that the flashlight exists a little earlier (I left the rope, then was sitting in the dark confused until I remembered the flashlight, only to see the reminder in the next level). Felt a lot like I imagine it does down deep in a cave, though. I think you captured that feeling pretty well, so good job!

Deepest Space by ItsIsaac 2021-04-29T22:33:01Z

Nice setup. Very polished looking. The bug about not enough things spawning made it somewhat anticlimactic. I could never find another place to refuel.

Infinite Slime by cocoplum 2021-04-29T22:42:04Z

A neat idea for an auto battle and things look nice, but, as mentioned, it feels unfinished. I "beat" the boss and he just had negative HP, for example. Adding a little more strategic depth to the game would have been nice as well. Still, the core you had is a good start!

Annoying falling game by TomH1 2021-04-27T20:47:30Z

Very tough. Especially without the jump (I made it past the first two levels before I remembered the jump existed and thought to try it midair). Fun little game, though, kept me playing to the end. Keep it up and next time try to be a little more ambitious (just keep doing a little more each jam :) ).

TheDeep by byqot 2021-04-27T21:03:26Z

Could have used a bit more story or something at the end. Or at least I think it was the end. Fun and creepy, though. I enjoyed myself.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Shotgun King: the Final Checkmate by benjamin 2022-04-06T21:41:43Z

Well, I just played like 10 games of this. Great job! My only real complaint, and maybe this is just not me catching it (or forgetting by the end of my long play session if you spelled it out somewhere), is how this fits with the theme.

Screen of Death by A-Flat Miner Studios 2022-04-05T19:42:54Z

@subvertissement Yeah, we were hoping to get other versions out there (and, who knows, maybe we still will), but it only works in Windows for now. Couldn't test out a Linux build at the time and it was having some weird slowdown issues when we tried to build for Mac.

Don't Pop the Bubble! by fractalsunrise 2022-04-05T19:13:04Z

Very simple. Probably too simple, but sounds like that was just a time issue. I really like the idea, though. And it works well for what it is.

Handsel and Gretel and Snakes by Jeremy Selwyn 2022-04-05T22:04:21Z

Sir Blocksalot by jhandsy 2022-04-05T20:52:38Z

Really fun game. Took me a few tries to get the hang of it and pick up what all was going on, but once I did it was a lot of fun. Challenging, but not so hard I felt like I couldn't do anything. Having the warnings of where the fireballs would hit was a VERY nice touch that made the game playable, would have been too tough without that. Okay, think I'm going to go play some more.

Mayor Necrohamster by BinarySpark 2022-04-05T19:40:09Z

Really enjoyed this. I thought the events were a very nice touch. I'm guessing there is a pretty deep game underneath there somewhere, but you managed to capture its essence in a nice jam game. Good job!

Red Riding Hood by Jiri Hysek 2022-04-05T19:21:41Z

So, to stick with your request and only talk about the things I liked. :) First, the art was amazing. Loved how this game looked. Also, the sound was great. I thought the music worked very well.

Also, the only bug I encountered (twice) was hilarious. I was lying face down and could move around and jump around like that, stabbing down. Both times I tried to stab a wolf from above, it didn't work, but I laughed at it.

I thought it was a fun little platformer. Not perfect gameplay, but still satisfying enough to play through to the end.

Finally, there was a lightsaber!

Grandma's kiss by Gaming Night 2022-04-06T21:56:09Z

This was hilarious! I really enjoyed like 8 million grandmas coming to get me by the end. At first I didn't see a reason to switch kids from the pistol kid, but then when I realized how the "ammo" meter worked, I realized there was some depth at knowing when to switch.

Save prisoner Ryan by Maxime Cyr 2022-04-06T21:50:46Z

Controls felt a little weird at first, but once I got used to it, it was fine. A fun little game. I enjoyed it a lot more once the cars starting coming at a decent clip and I got some item that weren't just healing.

3 Days At Sea by JamieOK 2022-04-05T21:53:23Z

I'm curious how far you could actually survive, best case scenario, given the supplies. I made it to day 50, but I'm curious how much further you could go. I can't imagine it's far.

An interesting game. There's not a TON of "game" outside of just seeing what happens, but there is just enough resource management to make you actually put some effort in. The art was very pretty. Very good take on the theme.

Yarr me shippey by Labete 2022-04-05T20:45:34Z

Nice concept. I won by just matching up my dice to the "regular" activities and then they never went away? It might be better to have those not stick around forever. Unless there was something I was missing. I will say it definitely drew me in and wanted me to play more, though.

SURVIVE! by Ben Sanby 2022-04-09T01:03:42Z

I liked what you were going for, but there just wasn't enough feedback on what was going on. I could never tell if I was doing anything when I clicked, I didn't know what the requirements were for the items, and I had trouble finding bunnies for the longest time (took me 3 games to figure it out). Again, not a bad idea and with a little bit more feedback I think I would have liked it a lot more. Not bad for a first jam.

OH! And two more things. First, no need to apologize for the graphics, I thought they were fun. You've got an interesting style there, lean into it. Second, the file size was huge. You're not going to get nearly as many people to play a game that big, so in the future you may want to look for ways to decrease your file size. I almost wasn't able to play it because my internet was being finicky.

A Ship Out of Time by deighta 2022-04-06T22:07:54Z

Fun gameplay. I had two issues and I think they're related (as in, I think solving one would solve the other). Sometimes the enemies would come in unexpectedly where I was or (worse) in a place where it was basically impossible for me to live (if they came fairly low and I got below them and the next set happened to come from the bottom I was screwed). This was especially frustrating early on when you couldn't really dodge. Either limiting their spawns (preventing some of those "auto-kill" moments), especially early on, or telegraphing where they were coming from so I could get out of the way would have helped a LOT.

Otherwise fun, though, and I came back for more a few times, so obviously the frustration at automatic deaths didn't hurt the overall fun too much.

Trashy Towers by TinyWhaleCloud 2022-04-05T22:18:27Z

Hah! I wasn't expecting a version on Tetris with bounciness and weird shapes when I first saw it. Very nice. Fun. Though, as mentioned, bounciness was a bit much at times, but, that's all part of the fun I guess. I enjoyed myself with this.

Sn002e by Mogmi 2022-04-05T20:29:53Z

Nice idea. As mentioned, puzzles were simple, but I don't think they were meant to be hard. Just engaging enough that you couldn't completely ignore it. I like different games like this.

TAILGUNNER by Metzkermeister 2022-04-05T20:15:46Z

Very fun game. Playing on the web version, I had an issue on my screen where I couldn't see chunks of the game (including the ammo/health meters, I didn't realize they were there until after playing a while) without scrolling the window. But, despite that, still fun to fly around and shoot everyone. Controls were responsive, challenge was in the reasonable range. Liked it.

Winter strikes back! by Biba-sama 2022-04-09T00:51:46Z

Was a really nice game. Looks good. Sounded very good. I wish the controls were a LITTLE bit more responsive/less fiddly. I didn't mind that it was on the difficult side to control (that was part of its charm I think), but I wanted a little bit less of that. Had a lot of fun with it. I like the multiple ways you could do things wiht the fire, which also happened to be basically your life.

Robster by Duckwings 2022-04-05T19:27:42Z

Overall pretty fun. Very good atmosphere. It took a few tries for me to figure out how to do anything that didn't lead to instant death the moment I got near a robot. But, when I did figure it out, it made the game fun.

Also, there may need to be a bit of tweaking for the first time player. I guess I went the wrong path initially because I didn't see my first robot until like 65 seconds into my first game.

@euler-moises We had great ideas for the codes, but we ran out of time. Shouldn't have tried to use Game Makers physics engine for this, it sucked up too much time.

@DarkWolf Fun fact, we have assets of a red light that will turn green when the fans/platforms activate sitting there made, we just didn't get them in in time. As mentioned above, time became a factor. But you're absolutely right that there should be something there. It would make the whole thing much more user friendly.

I'm not a huge fan of this type of game, but it was fun for what it was. I think when I died and played again, it thought I kept my old upgrades (I was getting upgrades like "another fulgur head" on my first set), but that's not a major deal. The fact that I played it a second time tells you you did a good job (as I said, I don't love this type of game). Soundtrack was rocking!
