Some problems with the linux version, when extracted the name is 'Shrinking Universe.x86' (with quotes) which makes it difficult to run. Also, when I did run the game, it crashed on a black screen and I had to restart my machine.

Pretty nice game. Having to click twice for every meteor I want to fire is a bit annoying though.
This take on the theme is awesome! I love the time-based rts elements here. Graphics, music, and overall feel is missing a bit of character and synergy.
It's pretty fun, but the double-clicking sometimes gets a bit tedious. It's understandable though, since we need a way to aim. Graphics are pretty nice. Some of the things are rather hard to destroy despite being small though-like the asteroid/comet.
I'm having fun, and no ones going to stop me! Muahaha (Awesome game though, quite addictive)
@tavurth Sorry to hear that, I have never made a Linux build before just did it through Unity wish I could help but I, unfortunately, don't know how! :)
This was a very enjoyable game! I really liked the idea of having a practice area in the instructions screen. Good music, sound effects and graphics too. Very small nitpick, but I think having press-release rather than press-press would've felt slightly nicer as a control scheme.
thank you for the very helpful feedback @cheesey-bob I also believe it would have a nicer feel
Great game! Very cool and interesting! :D
Nice game, Love how everything is balanced! Good luck, Don't forget to take a look at ours if you don't mind and see what it's like when we just focused on graphics in this game jam! Game Link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/spacelab-42a
I had fun playing it :)
I like this game a lot! Making an innovative arcade-y game is hard but IMO you pulled it off. The controls for asteroids were a but clunky (clicking twice for something that you sometimes want to use as rapid fire is a bit too much), but besides that it played very well. The background music was also very space-y and the sound effects in general fit the visual style. Would've been even more interesting of there was a bit of a storyline or stages (the universe can't shrink forever! Or can it?).
EDIT: Think I posted this as a comment. Oops.
This game is really fun to play after you get used to the controls. My main complaint, which is already mentioned in other comments, is the controls. While I got used to the controls after playing multiple time, it is still annoying to have many steps just to launch a simple attack. I think "Mouse Btn Down -> Drag -> Mouse Btn Release" would be faster and feel more natural. I also feel that the game gets hard quickly (or I am just bad at it). Otherwise, I had a lot of fun playing it. Great Job.
PS: My current best time is 1:01.
2:37 YAY! Nice game btw.
I like the idea and creativity. Awesome job.
I killed myself with a meteor at first play, i liked it nice game !
Nice take on an arcade style game Wish the controls were slightly different but I don't have a solution.
Nice game, although could be more related to the theme
Nice game, the lack of feedbacks when not being able to select the black hole for example make the inputs quite hard to learn (I didn't see the very small and scattered UI). But it's a good idea, great work!
very interresting, really creative :D
As others have said I feel like the controls could have been a bit better. Personally I thought it was going to be 'slingshot' controls when I first started. That is where you click to start then drag in the opposite direction of where you want it to go, and on release it will launch away from where your cursor currently is. This has the advantage of not having the cursor obscure where it is you are launching the meteors towards. Having a highlight for which ability was selected would also be nice.
Other than that the graphics fit the aesthetic nicely and sound effects felt appropriate. The music was a bit low on the volume side but that is a small number tweak away so not docking any points there. A solid entry especially for a first time jam.
Loved that the meteors actually shifted the orbit of what they crashed into. Nice touch.
Have fun out there!
Nice! Good use of the theme and the gameplay is solid. The controls weren't super obvious from the description so I really appreciated the practice area in the menu. Still, the click to aim mechanic felt a bit weird, might be an improvement to have a more intuitive control scheme (click and drag maybe?) I also discovered that you can click to spawn meteorites inside big planets which pretty much trivializes them. Would have been cool to take more advantage of physics too, like having planets you had to divert off course rather than just blow them up - that seemed to be possible but never necessary. Still it was fun, my best score was 3:13. Nice work!
Welcome to LD! Nice game! Game play is fun and the assets are nice (though Saturn feels a bit weird compared to the other planets). Music is not great but it's fine for the purpose, it ___is___ a jam after all
As other mentioned, I would change the control a little bit, maybe as the click and drag. I also spammed a lot inside incoming planets so I didn't need to aim carefully, though at some point I did get destroyed (not sure how long I survived though)
Cheers!
I'll reiterate that the controls were a little awkward. But the graphics were fun and, more importantly, the game itself was fun. And kind of addictive. I'd have preferred if the larger planets were slightly easier to break up or showed up slightly less often, but other than that the balance was really well done. Loved it.
That is a great idea and a nice game, it's always fun to destroy things with UNLIMITED POWER, great job ;)
Game is fun. You are onto something with this one for sure!
Nice job. This can be a great mobile game. Control click and drag yeah why not. Also it takes too much time to replenish ultra weapons. But idea is awesome ...
Does sucking humanity into a black hole count as saving them?
Fun idea for a game, and well executed. Had fun playing and trying to survive as long as possible.
Very fun to play. Not sure if it was intentional but I like how on the game over screen the planets that were on the screen just bounce around on each other.
@jajo hmm guess you are ending their suffering? a shrinking universe probably means inevitable death :D haha
Was confused at first as shooting seemed impossible, looks like there's an issue playing in fullscreen :stuck_out_tongue: Once that was solved I found spamming the asteroids was the best method, but I may have done more damage to myself than the planets did to me.
My best in the end was 2:20 and I died with my black hole and star still as I was saving them for a tight spot, but a I said earlier, I mostly damaged my self and it's difficult to fight against your own stupidity.
Really great game, everything really nice and polished and the star effect was beautiful. Great job :grinning:
