LD26 — Minimalism

Prism by Sanguine 2013-04-28T18:51:00

Pretty cool game! There were two or three levels in which I was just trying random things, but in the rest of them I really had the feeling I was searching for the right combination. Nice job!

LD28 — You Only Get One

Super Spruce by willem 2013-12-16T10:59:00

Controls don't work... :( Windows 8.1

Super Spruce by willem 2013-12-16T12:53:00

Seems to be working now (sometimes)

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Galactyc Budget Flights by Elemental Zeal Games Studios 2014-12-09T22:13:00

Cool game! Really solid graphics, fun mechanic. Downsides maybe that it was a bit hard to figure out how certain mechanics worked (but once you knew they were fun :D), that sounds were unclear in the beginning and that the audio is kind of irritating in general... But I really enjoyed playing it! Really innovative.

Political Tower Defense Game by McNick 2014-12-15T00:27:00

Pretty fun for such a small game. The characters made me laugh :D

Entertainment Software for Lonely Children by folmerkelly 2014-12-08T23:53:00

Wow, this game really brought on the feels in me. I guess the only complaint I have is that once the ball bugged out and got stuck in the wall, giving me an opportunity to get a high highscore. My brain short circuited and I failed, but I could've. Really love the atmosphere and messages of the game, also the mirrored pong mechanic is fun. Good job!

Make War, Not Science! by Budi 2014-12-08T23:31:00

When I saw you worked with SDL2 I immediately downloaded your game, nice ;) Card games are not really my genre but I played it and was, as expected, quite confused. Partially because the font is a bit nervous, but mostly because apparently the cards can also cost health, which was the case with most of my cards. Needless to say, I died like a kitten in outer space. You had an interesting card game concept in your mind (to a noob like me the mechanics and card powers look interesting) but I had a hard time grasping it. Also the graphics and general flow of the game could've gotten a bit more love imo.

Orders of Magnitude by Adam 2014-12-15T00:24:00

Controls were a bit confusing and I immediatly got trapped in one of the bunkers. The intro was reaaaaaally cool and it the graphics were pretty neat! Maybe playtest it a bit more next time to make it stupid-people-proof, haha.

Wavy Jumps by Mefteg 2014-12-08T23:59:00

Pretty cool game! The difficulty curve of the game is really good. Took me a while to figure out that jumping over the circles doesn't give you extra points. The color scheme is cool, as is the tweet button (this is absolutely the only situation I would ever use one of those!). Downside might be that because it is top down it is sometimes hard to see when you have to jump to get over a circle. Also, every now and then the game has a little lagspike which is not something you want with games like this. This would also be a pretty fun multiplayer game!

The Icing on the Cake by Binary Gambit 2014-12-10T11:29:00

Very pretty, and it's fun to roll the ball around. Once one of the pieces spawned in the tree so I couldn't get it :(

Zoom by Walnoot 2014-12-08T12:33:00

Actually very fun to play! Too bad it gets a bit boring when you've seen all the levels. Transition effect is very nice, and the graphics fit the game.

[UNFINISHED] Covert OPS by coppyhop 2014-12-08T12:40:00

Entry has potential, too bad it seems largely unfinished. Main menu looks very good but seems not to function very well (only boat loads?). Shooting the bad guys is fun but there's not much of a mechanic. Audio fits the game pretty well, and it follows the theme nicely.

Bombpopper by ixron 2014-12-09T00:05:00

Simple and effective, altough gets a little boring after 50 bombs. Graphics, sound, and font seem really consistent which is nice. Maybe I was unlucky but there were never as much bombs as there were on the screenshot (would've been cool). Could maybe have gotten a bit more love on the GUI (a start screen, maybe a restart button at the end).

Venus: The last defenders by mnill 2014-12-10T09:22:00

Not sure what the controls are, but I think I kind of understand what concept you had in your head. It seems interesting and I think for two days you made an interesting web game. The graphics fitted the style of the game well

SpeedRPG by Random Abductions 2014-12-09T18:15:00

Pretty awesome game! In the shop the text is almost unreadable on my 1024x768 screen, you might want to keep in mind the poor people next Ludum Dare :P An option to turn the music off would be cool too. The intro explanation was very good, and the game looks really slick (altough the protagonist is *really* small, but then again my screen resolution is also). I had a lot of fun playing it, but sometimes the generated rooms are very hard. Once when I entered the first room for the first time there were 2 floating monsters, two lazer guys and one other monster. Needless to say I died quite quickly :p Well done!

LD scan by NickMakesGames 2014-12-09T23:02:00

This is a really complex game, but well thought out, very beautiful and addicting! Also funny, hehe

God-damning birds! by alfie275 2014-12-10T09:29:00

Looks really interesting, but I can't get the followers to do anything, or see them :( Also, you might want to statically link the c/c++ runtime with the two flags -static-libgcc -static-libstdc++ . This will include the dll's needed in the executable

Daddy Ghoul by Maxom 2014-12-09T00:27:00

380 mb? Really? A runtime? Gosh, so much work. But worth it! The game is fun, good looking, and the mechanic is interesting. The win condition isn't very exciting (honestly I didn't even expect to win) but seeing the bugs going after the ghosts after you've drawn them away is pretty neat.

Daddy Ghoul by Maxom 2014-12-09T00:33:00

Also, nice pun :)

Android Attack by callum.thepro 2014-12-09T22:04:00

Pretty fun game! I have the feeling the towers are not very balanced (once you can frequently purchase the 2000 towers the game gets easy). However the game itself is solid, didn't spot any bugs, and the gameplay and graphics are clear. Good job and keep it up!

Android Attack by callum.thepro 2014-12-09T22:48:00

Aaaaaand it froze: http://imgur.com/4hKznVS Is that intended behaviour? :p

Dauntless by Luthwyhn 2014-12-09T18:03:00

A solid game! The ludum gloves are pretty awesome haha. Controls feel a bit clunky but I'm not a practiced ascii-roguelike player. I like how you implemented the inventory, and the line of sight stuff makes moving around the map look smooth. It's kinda unclear how strong the enemies actually are, and running away is also pretty much impossible xd

Legendary Legionnaire Winter Massacre by banana4life 2014-12-09T22:45:00

Fun game. I couldn't figure out how to trigger the magic attack but it was pretty fun without it :p The art, sound and game felt really coherent which is pretty good

TheBlindMaze by Valon 2014-12-08T23:18:00

This wasn't really a success. The idea you have is really interesting and has a lot of potential, but the game is a little bit too buggy to enjoy. The arrow keys don't work sometimes, and it's unclear what they represent (do you move on a 2d grid or do the left and right arrow key rotate you?). It is also unclear what sound means what, making it hard to listen for something specific. Also, a message saying "read the rules to understand why you failed" is not really a nice way to talk to the player :p It did succeed in making me feel a bit eerie, the ambient is done pretty well.

P.s. Why does unity want to connect to the internet? It's suspicious.

Ludumoids by Zanaku 2014-12-08T23:39:00

Pretty interesting mechanic you got there! I would say you could've done more with it but this is already a lot more interesting than your regular asteroids. I also like how you made collisions more forgiving by making the spaceship wiggle a bit when it happens. It's kind of confusing to remember which keys triggers which phase but I guess that's something you can get used to.

Cube Shooter 31 by cachila4408 2014-12-08T23:45:00

Controls feel a bit clunky (movement could be faster, as could shooting), and the game feels *really* unforgiving. On the other hand, multiplayer is really neat (this also compensates a lot for the unforgivingness with reviving) and the graphics look really polished (or just a smart style?). Also the cubes spawn really quick, but I guess as devs you get used to that :p

Captain Wupcroix by Detocroix 2014-12-09T22:39:00

Really cool game! I didn't manage to find the chest (it seems buried in a hole - can you even see it?) but the feeling of sailing around and thinking "It must be there!" and 5 minutes later thinking "I was wrong but now I'm totally sure it's over there!" is neat. It's pretty cool that your game managed to create that intense feeling :P A mute button would've been nice though. Keep it up!

Andres Soto by AndresGames 2014-12-09T18:08:00

I got to 25 coins! Pretty fun game, it's mostly pretty balanced unless the field changes when everything is black, and when you finally get to see what the map looks like it's already impossible to get to the target with the time left. The jumping mechanic is *very* weird in the beginning but once you get used to it it becomes useful.

Rolling Surviver by shanshuo2020 2014-12-15T00:19:00

Very fun game, and an interesting mechanic. Could use some more attention on the looks, but the gameplay is solid.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Polysseum - LD Edition by Skiddings 2015-04-29T18:38:00

Was fun to run around and switch places, but I didn't really understand the purpose of the game. Sounds and animations were nice, and the AI movements of some blocks were pretty interesting.

A Nuclear Crossroads by bobismijnnaam 2015-04-23T17:52:00

Thanks :D

In Air by SleepyStudios 2015-04-27T19:29:00

Really awesome game! The graphics are pretty, and the mechanic is original and well designed. The only two cons I can think of are that at some point it kind of becomes trial and error, and the minimal resolution was kind of awkward (Yeah, I have a 1280x1024 screen. I'm poor like that). In my opinion this would look very good full screen, so maybe you can look into that next time. Also a big plus for the music! Not too distracting and matched the ambient of the game.

Speechless by MonoS 2015-04-29T18:22:00

Not really my game, I couldn't really understand what was going on. The game looks really neat and oldschool, once you get to know it the interface is nice and the backstory-idea is very interesting. Guess if you're more invested in this genre it's pretty good!

Poland space program by hate-marina 2015-04-29T17:54:00

Not really a game (or was there a winning condition?) but it was very funny and the graphics fit in well with the humor. Keep it up :)

An Unconventional Boat by zell2002 2015-04-29T18:43:00

Interesting game. It looked really nice, and the music and sound was pretty and non-interfering. The gameplay felt kind of sluggish, but it was fun siphoning off other boats to stay alive. The border of the world was kind of hard to see. The water is really beautiful! The main menu could've used a bit more work but the rest of the game is really polished, well done.

Discord Seeder by ztiromoritz 2015-04-29T18:47:00

Tutorial is maybe a bit too long for my taste. Pretty cool mechanic and nice controls. The music was kind of repetitive but it dind't interfere with the game. Could maybe use a little more explanation on how the mechanic actually works. Also the graphics and the music fit nicely together.

Hee-Hee, Boom-Boom! by Caliber_Project 2015-04-23T17:18:00

You might want to actually turn into an executable, because people don't usually have unity installed and in general don't want to.

Die for the Princess by Praron 2015-04-29T17:58:00

Very nice game! The mechanic is interesting, it looks polished, and the sounds fit the style of the game very well. The controls are mostly worked out very well (sometimes the little guys would get stuck in the fences on the side) but that's only a very small minus point. The only thing it could use would maybe be optional music. Very good!

Platypulse by Axel_Kay 2015-04-23T17:20:00

I can't download the game. When I click source it leads me to a google drive page telling me I have to request access. So, please compile/export it to an exe, and put it somewhere on a server where you don't need to request access please.

Return The shoe! by ProteinPannkaka 2015-04-29T19:14:00

Okay I had a pretty lengthy response but the LD site at it, so here's a quick summary:
+ Extremely pretty graphics
+ Extremely nice soundtrack
- Items are hard to find
- Rabbits are OP

Call me a lazy scrub, but that was my experience. Don't forget to playtest the gameplay :)

KILLIPEDES by calavera 2015-04-29T18:09:00

Modulo the spelling/grammar mistakes, this game was pretty cool! After a while it got repetitive and it's a shame there's no enemies killed counter (except at the end), but the idea is really interesting and funny and the mechanic is really solid! The graphical style of the game is also very coherent and pretty, but it kind of makes the sound effects moot. The sound effects fitted the game but were maybe a bit more basic and maybe not what you would expect with a cool graphical style like that. All in all a fun and pretty game with an awesome backstory, keep it up!

Maniac killing zombies with shoes! by vitail924 2015-04-23T17:27:00

First off, I want to mention that I really like the form factor of your game (no sarcasm - fuck standardized width/height ratios right?). You have no music, which is somewhat sad, but you do have screenshake, sounds, and nice sprites, which totally make up for it. I like the graphic style you went for. The game feel was definitely there, altough you might want to tune down the general game speed a bit - it felt kinda twitchy to me (it ran waayyyy too fast, maybe it's because my pc is kinda fast? You should make your game behave properly regardless of framerate). All in all a sweet looking entry!

DEFENSE WITH TEDDY by nazav 2015-04-23T17:32:00

The game stops after I killed three things. It was minimal but fun to play while it lasted.

The Weapon of Archaeology by Potregon 2015-04-23T17:44:00

This is a very interesting game! You got quite a unique mechanic, and also managed to implement it quite well. The only downside is that the game plays kinda slow, and while I understand that having a lot of copies is problematic, having only two makes the game sluggish as well (cause once a copy disappears you have to redo it, which is anti fun). You don't have a lot of sound or music, but the sound that you do have is nice, useful, and fits the game. The bounding boxes of the lasers could be a bit more lenient, since you use (I guess?) rectangle to rectangle collision which makes it hard because a casual player (like me) expects circle to rectangle collision, causing a lot of unexpected deaths. All in all a unique idea implemented in a pretty ok way.

In the eyes of babies by Tatsu 2015-04-23T17:52:00

The first two things I noticed was that the menu was kind of non-functional (I was probably pressing the wrong buttons, but you might just want to make it respond to mouse or arrow keys) altough it suddenly started when I pressed space, and the ingame labels were in spanish. Not a very good first impression, maybe things you want to pay attention to some more next jam.

The art fitted the game pretty well and was consistent across the game, which is nice. Downside however is that the background seemed like it was upscaled and lost quality - how did that happen, since it looks like vector art? Maybe next time take extra care in upscaling your assets, since vector art should be able to produce crisp backgrounds at any resolution. I liked the music and the sounds a lot! Finally, the game was funny and fun to play.

In conclusion, a simple but pretty and fun game :)

King Is Alone by IL_yoshioka 2015-04-29T18:27:00

Pretty fun game. Music kind of got repetitive very fast, but the graphics were kind of coherent. The mechanic is nice and throwing random objects is a lot of fun. At first it was really unclear how to throw stuff, and once I found it it didn't really work that well. All in all a pretty nice game, be sure to playtest it more next time.

Color Backfire by Kostyan1996 2015-04-29T18:32:00

First off, the "Windows (Java)" version doesn't work. It complains about lwjgl. The windows+source (post compo) version worked for me.

Nevertheless, very simple but cool mechanic! The graphics were consistent and didn't interfere with the gameplay, dito for the sound. Took me a while to figure out you could actually aim the reflected bullets, it got a lot better after that :)

NO TIME TO EXPLAIN: GET IN THE LLAMA by Nidar 2015-04-23T17:09:00

Simple but fun! I liked the graphics and the gameplay, but the music got repetetive kinda quickly. Still better than having no music though. The fartbomb was amazing XD XD XD

Pizza Panic by peecestudios 2015-04-23T17:16:00

I liked the music, too bad you didn't make it yourself but at least it's not quiet. You've got a solid mechanic, and the looks are basic but don't distract you needlessly and look nice in general. You could've made it a bit harder/more fun to stop the pizzas (repeating patterns? it seemed mostly random) or maybe make the baker move to the position you were trying to stop the pizza at. Don't neglect the small things ;) All in all a pretty solid entry.

Sidekick by TheGreenTie 2015-04-23T17:57:00

Very fun game! Looks really good and plays very well. However, one big downside: sometimes the objects would "stick" to my mouse. Not sure how it happened but it happened every few times, which was nasty. Aside from that, the sound was cool and the idea solid. Makes for a really good arcade game :)

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Secret of the Little Lamb by bigteddy 2015-12-15T10:46:00

The web version wouldn't load, so I downloaded the windows version.

Looked fun to play, but the spikes are really unforgiving and it's kind of a drag to have to play through the tutorial (as in, wait for 30 secs) every time you die/make a wrong jump by one millisecond. The game looked pretty good and gave off the right atmosphere, and the music fit nicely with the whole. You got a very nice and complete base for a game, but next time try to make it a bit more forgiving or give a way to skip the introduction (or make the introduction more exciting).

THOSE GOD DAMN SHEEP!!! by jellycubestudio 2015-12-14T16:40:00

Impossible to play, but way too hard for me. Loved the graphics and controls, and the sounds are cool too, although they do get a bit repetitive after a while.

Space Pilot by Budi 2015-12-17T15:23:00

Simple but solid retro game. Liked the graphics, the controls worked fine, but got a bit monotonic quickly. Solid game.

Sugarcane by bobismijnnaam 2015-12-14T17:29:00

@YinYin, @alyphen, ugh, damn dll's. Next time I'm just going to link everything statically. Thanks for the effort though.

Thanks for the comments everyone :-)

Sugarcane by bobismijnnaam 2015-12-14T17:36:00

@A333: Yeah, I did built it in release, but I also built SDL2 myself and it seems that's were the debug part slipped it -.-

Sugarcane by bobismijnnaam 2015-12-14T18:49:00

@Gemberkoekje: I made my own engine and didn't have time to implement text/texture functionality, so I just tried to convey the instructions with... Rectangles. I know, not my brightest idea ever. Thanks for playing :-)

Sugarcane by bobismijnnaam 2015-12-15T11:16:00

@kmakai: It seems like you've figured out the most up until now, good job :) The purple blocks are kinda like "ambient generators", like the items you can buy in cookie clicker. First I wanted to make them placeable by the player, but I ran out of time and just spawned them in the field. You discovered an edge case that got you stuck in the purple blocks (: The other two items are movement speed and planting behaviour, would be useful to have if not the improper balancing of the game '-'

Pots by tiffi 2015-12-14T17:35:00

Interesting farm game. It was nice to be able to place your own pots, and pick which seeds to buy. It seemed to me like the growing of the seeds was way too fast, but that's kinda hard to balance. Also the overlap when you were standing behind a plant was weird. The art style was simple but fun and the game looked coherent. Well done.

Zen Roots by nopogo 2015-12-15T10:56:00

Lovely game! Indeed very zen like, very cool to play. The controls are great and the music is extremely soothing. The whole was also very coherent, with the music fitting the athmosphere of the visuals, and even the controls :) Best I've played from the 20 up until now!

Did you publish the source code somewhere? I'm very interested in how you implemented the line effect. Well done!

Rubber Ducky and the Trial of Clams by pluberski 2015-12-14T16:49:00

Haha, amazing! I got the feeling I was conversing with a psychopath, so good job creating atmosphere :) The tasks were fun and made me curious. The graphics could be better, as well as the sound, but the game was really enjoyable and very funny!

GeometryTwo by Gornova 2015-12-16T20:54:00

Fun game, interesting take on invaders! The graphics were simple but attractive, and the sounds fitted the atmosphere and the graphics. It could use some 80's retro soundtrack though. The controls worked nicely. I died at level 4 or 5, but it wasn't really clear why since I didn't really get a chance to defend myself. Other than a bit of balancing the game was very nice :)

Brain Splitter by Janacek 2015-12-14T18:48:00

Maybe use zip next time? For rar I have to use a separate program, which is, well, not that much effort really, but it could be a tad better if given a zip.

That was a fun game! The music fit the vibe if the game, as well as the background and the overall style of the game. The mechanic was pretty interesting and fun to get under control. The combinations that were fired at you could be more challenging, but this was not a problem. Very good work!

circular triangulation by JulianMH 2015-12-14T18:15:00

Hard to play, but a lot of fun! Sadly I got bored quickly since the restart level button (shift?) didn't seem to work, and restarting every time was bothersome. The graphics really suited the gameplay and gave of a really nice mood together. Very good game and nice design!

Save the Oak by Givit Game Studios 2015-12-14T18:37:00

Cool visuals, as well as an interesting idea. The size of the in game objects could've been bigger, like maybe zoom the camera in a bit next time? And also the waves spawned a bit too quickly to collect the seeds it seemed. But it was fun to shoot the animals and help the tree :)

One Day I'll Be A Flower by Ovidios 2015-12-14T18:25:00

Really interesting take on snake! I think there could be more suns, but maybe I'm just bad at snake. Also, it would be nice if there would be some kind of way to enhance your "sun-catching skill", as it gets almost impossible very quickly to grab sun at all once you get higher. Very good game, loved it!

Happy Little Flower by Reccy 2015-12-15T11:13:00

Fun to play! Nice personal touch with the name :) The endings are interesting and funny as well. Maybe the dialogue was a bit slow; next time you could implement a key to skip the lines? Pokemon style, with space or something? The sounds and images were very coherent and gave of a very retro vibe. Nicely done!

A Striangle Journey by Bobsleigh 2015-12-16T21:04:00

Contrary to my previous experiences, your python game ran without issues. Well done (: Except that it shut down when I lowered my volume (fn+f6...?)

Fun game! Very hard, mostly because it's hard to coordinate walljumps while moving that fast. The mechanics are solid though. The music and sounds weren't special, but they were there and fitted the game nicely. The graphics were also simple and not ugly. Good job!

Flobe by Skinny Jean Death 2015-12-15T10:21:00

The game does not seem to support keyboard, which is sad, because I think the game would've worked quite well with just wasd and arrow keys combined, but that's just, my opinion, man.

Besides the fact that I didn't really get to play the game, it looked pretty good because the animations were nice and the characters were cute. I liked the idea of the concept, and I think it would've been pretty fun to play. The music didn't add much more to the atmosphere than the visuals did but kudos for putting a soundtrack in.

Grow with the Flow by jww608 2015-12-16T21:15:00

Nice game! Cool aesthetics, and the music was also ok. The controls were sometimes a tad buggy but were ok overall. The blipping sound fitted the looks of the game. Kudos for including so many songs and the cool menu structure :)

Easy Job? by TajamSoft 2015-12-16T21:09:00

I liked the idea, and the game looks really great. The music ok but you don't really notice it after a few seconds. The gameplay is kind of weird, it sometimes seems like the devices don't react (especially the one on the right). Fun game to play though.

Two Button Gardening by freddyw9 2015-12-14T16:52:00

Fun and short game, very pretty. Had fun playing it, especially because this game is winnable and those old toys were practically impossible xD

Hair Growth Shop by maguera93 2015-12-14T18:42:00

Haha wow, this game is absolutely great! I laughed so hard when the wookie appeared, hahaha. Also the visuals of the game are amazing and give of a very cool mood! The game is very simple but tremendously solid, and seeing the hair styles changes and to watch the faces passing by is a lot of fun. Maybe add keyboard bindings as an after-jam addition? That way the real enthousiast can get even higher highscores :p Well done!

Grow Up! by sergear 2015-12-14T16:58:00

Fun game, and very pretty! The music was also good, as in it didn't really irritate me and when I noticed it I liked it. The controls could be better and sometimes you encounter situations that you can't avoid (like a worm crawling out of the wall and blocking of the path when rock thing is also floating down. Good job!

EyeGuy by zacerhy 2015-12-14T18:44:00

Maybe upload an executable? I'm a chrome user :s

Phaseolus Magicus by Dianouille 2015-12-15T10:33:00

This better be good, as I'm installing that stupid java runtime JUST FOR YOU! Luckily it worked just fine after that.

Simple but fun game! The graphics were minimal but the symbols and the bean stalk were very abstract (loved it!) and looked well polished. Good job on finishing your first ludum dare, be sure to enter again and make another abstract game! :-)

AquaLution by vados 2015-12-14T18:33:00

It was almost impossible to control the fish, and also every few seconds it switched around. The concept is interesting however, and I liked the visuals of the game. I especially liked how your enemies later become food :) The music didn't really add anything to the atmosphere.

Sweep The World by Shrub 2015-12-15T10:51:00

Try not to publish using an installer next time.

Extremely simple but interesting game. Sadly there was no life indicitator so it was hard to determine what actually hurt, and while clicking did seem to do something, feedback was minimal. Art was ok. I'm not really sure how you worked one of the themes into this.

Are you grown? by Rfdshir 2015-12-14T16:36:00

The mood was kinda disturbing, which I liked. The sound was maybe a bit irritating. Overall an interesting idea, but it needs an element to speed it up a bit.

Hatchling by Farelle 2015-12-15T10:26:00

I liked the concept. The state of the egg seemed really unstable, but once you get used to it it's fun to play. The art was nice and combined with the music pretty well.

Organ-izer by The Merge Conflicts 2015-12-15T10:41:00

Please package in zip next time, rar is irritating -.-

Game was very fun to play! Interesting concept. You managed to make it feel very organic, as sometimes you needed to help out the blobs as they got stuck under the platforms by lifting up the bone for a split second. One might argue this is a bug, but I think it adds to the experience as a feature. The music fitted the mood of the game very well, and the blobs running around and dying in the acid were a lot of fun to watch :) The only downside is that it gets boring after a while, but as a whole this is a really solid game!

Berg in Space by thiagoferraro 2015-12-14T16:55:00

Don't publish your game in rar please, now I have to use some program to start it instead of just using window's own zip thing.

Simple but fun game. Controls were a bit clunky but the 3d models were nice, and the music was ok.

Adventure Story 34 by PuddleOfWater 2015-12-16T21:23:00

Nice idea for the game. Gui was not very exciting but clear, and the story was interesting.

Hydra Height by EightPercentStudios 2015-12-16T20:50:00

Fun game! Visuals were nice and the music fitted the atmosphere. The learning curve went from easy to nearly impossible a bit too quickly. Animations were very cool!

Snake by FacticiusVir 2015-12-14T17:02:00

Basic and not really innovative, but it's a solid implementation and (most importantly) it works. The sounds give an arcady feel and the controls work well. Nice job for 6 hours of work.

@5you: It's normal to ship dll's. If a game doesn't it means they're embedded in the exe, but that's unflexible and also sort of hard to do. Next time please include an error message as "it doesn't work" is not really helpful.

Thanks for the great comments everyone!

Turnstone by Walnoot 2016-04-20T20:24:00

Pretty cool game, controls are very smooth and the graphics are intuitive and simple. The puzzles are surprising at times, and meditative at others. Good job keeping it cross-platform :D

Oh, and have you looked at Boost.Hana? Rey and I both use it, seems to be pretty effective ;-)

Shamanic Panic by panurge 2016-04-19T09:36:00

Cool game! Storyline is nice and very funny, explanation of controls is clear. Graphics are simple and cute, and the soundtrack is great and doesn't become irritating! The only downside is that the gameplay is kind of hard, the hare encourages you to run quick, but then you have to stop every other second because you might run into one of those black things (if you CAN even stop, usually they just kill you without you being able to interfere). Great job, but the difficulty curve could use some finetuning.

NOUKE by sirtetris 2016-04-18T09:00:00

Very cool game! Takes a second to figure out but it's a nice mechanic to play with. The ambient feel of the game is very authentic. Good job!

Bortman by Rscar 2016-04-18T11:04:00

Looks very cool! Controls work amazing. Permadeath is a bit of a bummer though, you get shot by accident quite quickly. Looks beatiful, altough transitioning between states is a bit rusty (keep walking after dying, etc.). Good job!

Run, Gamer, Run! by devilqube 2016-04-19T20:28:00

Game looked pretty nice and the story is funny. Game mechnanic is quite easy though (just hold ctrl to win). I also couldn't get space or fire to work. Next time keep the same spirit in story and gaphics, but try to focus a bit more on concrete gameplay :)

Wizard Quest by mikedirl 2016-04-18T07:40:00

Pretty fun game. Movement is smooth, but traps are maybe a bit hard to dodge. At some point I walked off the leap of faith, and when I respawned I fell through the map or something. Weird but fun.

Particle Shift by ccglp 2016-04-18T07:54:00

"./LinuxExe.x86: error while loading shared libraries: libX11.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" :( I'm on Ubuntu 15.10. Screenshots look interesting, a very techy/computer ambient.

Particle Shift by ccglp 2016-04-18T08:04:00

Did some digging. First I had to "sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-0:i386", then "sudo apt-get install lib32stdc++6". Together with chmod +x on the executable it started. However when I pressed play I saw some purple triangles, and then it crashed with the message "Aborted (core dumped)".

Don't Race Me Or My Son Ever Again by Idkfawin32 2016-04-18T07:50:00

Pretty impressive! I've never written a software renderer but I can imagine you need some experience for that. The racer feels pretty fluid, and the rendering is also pretty good, except for some jagged lines when turning the car. If I were you I would keep this code around, maybe improve it a bit, and use it next LD for your next game!

Sunshift by guimonpa 2016-04-19T21:15:00

First off: my congratulations of being the first unity game to successfully run on my ubuntu 15.10 installation! It seems that, even though I'd suppose this is a "Just Works" feature in Unity, 9/10 Ludum Dare participants still seem to mess this up.

I played 14 levels, and I skipped the last 6 (give or take). Most of them are astonishingly hard. I managed to keep my spirits up, but when at the key-shaped level I had to do one parcours twice, but the second time the other way around, you broke my spirit. The game's aesthetics are very well crafted, and the music is nice and hypnotizing. I commend you, great job!

Code Shift by MikeTheWayne 2016-04-18T07:33:00

SHAPE☆SHIFT by KaiClavier 2016-04-19T21:39:00

Behind this cute and fluffy game hides an ingenious and challenging game mechanic! While the graphics and the music are a bit too childish for my taste, they are of high quality. The puzzles are really cool and well though out, as they border on "Did the developer make a mistake here or am I just not smart enough?". Controls could be a bit less mushy, but that's a minor point. Very well done!

Pheee Strew Quest by razieliyo 2016-04-19T10:18:00

For those who don't want to look up the proper commands, these install the proper allegro version on ubuntu 15.10:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:allegro/5.0
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install liballegro5-dev

The game is kind of weird. Art style is great, and the small screen has a nice aesthetic to it. The fighting makes no sense to me however. So I walked around a bit, and died a few times, but did not get to see much more of the game. The attacks only seemed to hurt me somehow. Maybe next time try to balance it, and if you're not succeeding then make it too easy instead of too hard. If the next time the game looks and plays as nice as this time, and is a bit more balanced, you're in for a treat!

System Shift by edve98 2016-04-20T19:17:00

Very cool! A simple but intuitive and fun game :-) Could've used some more in-depth mechanics but the nethack style make up for it. Maybe next time add a storyline?

Shape Runner by verzoto 2016-04-18T11:20:00

Okay game. Simple graphics, simple gameplay, and simple audio. A very good basis for an interesting game. Fun for a short while but becomes monotone after 10 or so shapes.

WaLeFi by Strike 2016-04-19T09:26:00

Controls are smooth, and looks great! Takes a while figuring out which element works against what, especially when it starts taking multiple shots to take down some enemies. Tutorial is really clear, nice of you to include controller support (didn't test it though). Music is nice but actually gets kind of irritating quickly. Great job!

Wayang by Arnage 2016-04-20T19:32:00

Very pretty game! The animations are smooth and, while subtle, the sounds are very nice. I have a nexus 5 and I did experience that the screen was maybe somewhat cramped during some puzzles.

ShapeGrid by matiasbontempo 2016-04-20T19:40:00

Fun game! I'm going to keep this around for when I get bored :D The mechanic is fun and addictive, but random enough not to hate it when you lose. It also looks really polished and plays nice. Good job!

We Don't Know How to Approach You by Drusilla 2016-04-19T21:44:00

Hahaha, wow! This game is great :D The graphics are simple but very coherent and you immediately understand what they mean and what the implications are. The controls are simple but effective, and you surely have a nice sense of humour. Keep it up and make an even better game next time! :D Be sure to include a "pause music" button though :)

Click Faggot by CJKinni 2016-04-18T11:12:00

ShiftShaper by serp 2016-04-20T19:20:00

Cool mechanic :) Kind of weird (but sometimes it's almost neigh impossible to get the shape right) to play with but its fun. The music is kind of random but not too irritating. A nice entry.

Shape it! by _beta 2016-04-18T07:47:00

Had troubles unraring the file, the standard ubuntu file roller said "Error: unable to parse files". Installed unrar with apt-get and then I could extract it. Could run the executable though. "bash: ./ShapeIt!.exe: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error" it said. Maybe a small tip for next time: don't use exclamation marks in filenames. Screenshots looked interesting.

PsychoShift by Ratmena 2016-04-18T11:28:00

Very beautiful! Controls are a bit hard/mushy, and sometimes the game requires you to switch really quickly which is a bit too much to learn for a 5 minute game. The story is pretty cool, the characters are cute and the game mechanic is interesting.

A Game by steveklabnik 2016-04-20T19:48:00

Your game runs perfectly on Ubuntu 15.10 :) It plays nicely and the story is mildly interesting (and funny - didn't you read Dijkstra's papers before bedtime like any regular child? :p). Now that you've got a basic engine up and running, maybe make the gameplay a bit more exciting next time. A more interactive environment, maybe? :)

Home Sweet Home by wheerd 2016-04-18T08:15:00

Nano Wars by Rey 2016-04-19T09:22:00

Looks amazing! Shooting is wonky as hell though, seriously. Also walking around is kind of counter intuitive (I know I said it wouldn't be but after a few rounds it didn't get much better :p), but that's kind of hard to solve for an isometric game. The gameplay is actually pretty fun once you get the steering of the robot down and figure out what the drops do. Keeps the style and improve the controls next jam and you'll land among the stars!

my favourite game so far

Ereptile Dysfunction by sexypudding69 2016-04-19T09:11:00

Controls work fine, climbing is a bit fiddly but when you figure it out it's a nice mechanic. Shame there aren't more levels but the three short ones were fun! Maybe spend some more time on content and music next time. All in all a very good basis, could expand into something even better easily!

FiveCubeFlight by Toonhawk 2016-04-20T19:12:00

Interesting idea, looks good for a barebones proof of concept. I feel like this game is playable only if you have memorized all the states. It's a novel mechanic though.

Sea Monster by SeaMonsterGD 2016-04-19T20:21:00

Really good! Played it from start to end :D The AI is challenging, but not hard enough to irritate. And the game is very forgiving, which encourages you to put some actual effort into the game :) The ending was nice. I liked how at first the final E skill was worthless but it proved really useful later on! Great job!

CDO by A_Cupcake 2016-04-20T19:25:00

I think I understand the games purpose, but I'm not very much an OCD person, so I didn't have much problem leaving the shapes as they were. The interface looks nice and simple, and the shapes behave nicely. The only thing that misses is actual gameplay; you got the rest right.

Transmuto by J08nY 2016-04-18T08:10:00

Game is fun, but I have no idea how the interaction between shooting at the red things and them dying works. Movement was pretty nice once I figured it out, the graphics look nice and coherent. Sound is nice but gets kind of irritating after a while.

LD42 — Running out of space

The Dome by Lintfordpickle 2018-08-21T09:59:17Z

Pretty game! It has an interesting back story and it certainly looks nice. It has a very retro pixel look and feel to it, well done. A few simple sound effects (possibly generated with sfxr as that sound fits your visuals) would have improved it by a lot.

Took me a while to realize that the only thing that really matters is the customer and your health bar. Certainly makes the game a lot easier. It's hard to watch the minimap and drive around at the same time, combined with the fact that the controls were really sensitive makes the game somewhat challenging to play. It could also be part of its sharm however.

I think the game would've been easier/more fun to play if the car had been actually centered of the "camera" view instead of centered in the window. It is kind of hard to predict oncoming cars in the bottom of the screen.

When I dropped off the first customer the game crashed without an error message.

Ghost Cleaner by akai_0okami 2018-08-30T13:37:32Z

Fun little game! The 8bit style and music fitted really well together. The idea was pretty simple which I liked, but it took quite a lot of text to explain it. It was fun to play, especially as you had to wait for the human to leave the room and he would just keep moving around in the same room. This really gave me the "silly humans" feeling the ghost must feel all the time. Also, is "spoopy" a typo or intentional?

Treasure Hoarders 2018 by SuperEndeg 2018-08-21T11:27:07Z

First thought: nice spin on bejeweled, and good for you for using something else than Unity!

The game looked nice and the sound went well with as also. Controls were a bit unclear sometimes as I usually did not see clearly if I had selected something, and if so which one. However the mechanic is very interesting and I definitely would see a bigger game based on this work very well. I also liked the subtle customization of choosing your own hero!

Collapse by Willops 2018-08-28T11:34:10Z

Very cool game! Such a simple idea and yet you managed to squeeze out the simplest ideas that directly follow from it. As you play it you alternate between simple levels that introduce concepts and levels that try to shed some new light on a concept you just learned. Very cool! I noticed that few levels in I was really getting into "the zone", and in the tight buttcheeks level I was really enjoying figuring out how this trick the game wanted me to do was going to work. Especially because you have to do it multiple times in a row you really have to sit down and learn it, you can just grab one by pure luck once or twice! However I stopped at the back and forth level after that, I knew what I had to do but figuring that one out felt like a bit of a drag after I went back and forth two times and I had to go another time.

What I liked the most about this game is that the look and feel, mechanic, and sound/music is very simple, but it all fits together neatly in a very enjoyable package with suprising depth. Possibly the best game I played up until now during this LD!

Platform (LD42) by bentglasstube 2018-08-30T13:23:10Z

Fun small game! Interesting but well done game idea. Aesthetic and music really fits the minimalistic controls and game goal. Very nice as well that you're not using an out of the box engine :) Only missed a bit of development, different kinds of meteors (space garbage would've been interesting, or maybe a purple bust of napoleon or something :D Keep up the streak!

Personal Space by ursagames 2018-08-30T13:33:21Z

Very nice game! At first I didn't get it but when I got below floors it started to make sense (when the yellow dude started attacking me xd). I liked the kind of strangeness vibe that the house emitted. I also really liked how the UI was done, very intuitive and clear. The visual style was also very good. I did think that the sound and the visuals where kind of different. The walking around sound was also kind of weird; first I though it was some kind of radar but it seemed to be just going up and down all the time. Oh well.

Space Cadet by bobismijnnaam 2018-08-21T09:40:22Z

@deaymon Thanks! At first I only added it as general juice, but later I found out it actually makes the ending and the "strange floaty" a ton better.

Space Cadet by bobismijnnaam 2018-08-21T12:00:27Z

@riptidestudio Thanks for your comment! It sounds like I didn't make it clear enough that pressing space bar the main goal :D

The idea is that you play an idle game a la cookie clicker but with your space bar. You collect "spaces" by pressing the spacebar in-game. However, sometimes the spacebar breaks, and you have to look around in the house for a new spacebar (these are actually the sticks you are referring to ;)). Some spacebars are left around the house, but if you run out you can always ask the strange floaty for more. As the game develops you can buy the end-game item which sets in motion the final stage with an interesting cutscene.

Hope this explains the game a bit better for you. If you have any comments after giving it another shot I'd be very happy to hear them :)

Space Cadet by bobismijnnaam 2018-08-30T17:31:55Z

@Lumos Thanks for your comment! From what I've read on the internet "space cadet" is also a way of describing someone with his/her head in the clouds, which relates to the character that loses himself in the space bar game, like in my game. However after submitting I also realised it is the same as that windows game which I also lost many hours to :) Sorry to hear the WebGL didn't work well for you, Unity still doesn't seem to get consistent performance on that end.

@Yetman I didn't spend too much time on tuning post processing but I'll be sure to tune it better next time, thanks :)

Space Cadet by bobismijnnaam 2018-08-31T06:39:11Z

@solrun Thanks for the comment! You got most of the things I "implicitly" put in the game, very good :) That one door doesn't open unfortunately so you probably 100%'ed it.

Running Out of Space by karmo 2018-08-21T12:28:10Z

Well, I finished both chapter one and two. One was impossible to finish without the tips in the comments here, two was doable with some trial and error. I think this is a very good start for making text adventure games (especially with the floor plan, that's a nice touch). However it could be a lot better with giving subtle hints of what to do and being more comprehensive about what verbs and nouns to accept. Also, the story wasn't very linear. I ran into the coffee machine before I ran into the mom. Usually you want to make the player run into mom first so once you run into the kitchen the player has a chance of knowing what to do.

So all in all, good first try, and keep trying! Your games will only get better as you do too!

Ascending Assault by walnoot 2018-08-21T10:18:41Z

I really liked the idea of me giving out orders and the minions executing them in a no-nonsense manner. However at some point they kind of broke down (I think after building the second floor) and I had to order them around manually, which I didn't like as much. It feels like it takes ages to get my first artillery cannon, but I'm a hopeless strategy player so that might be the cause as well. The controls felt solid and the look and feel was nice and to the point as well. Sounds were simple but made the game just that little bit better. If it would've been possible to upgrade certain stations or workers as well I think the game would've been even more interesting than it already is.

Crates by Solrun 2018-08-30T19:20:14Z

Great, I loved it! (I'm probably biased if you compare your game to mine, but still). First, loved the visual style and sounds of your game, and the way they work together very well. Second, it was amazing how it started out boring and simple. The first 2 levels were fun as you discover the most efficient way to place and move around the boxes, and figure out the controls, but by the third I got bored. Then, just before I decided to click the X button, something changed (I think it was the -1 glitch from the box machine). Somehow that tickled my curiosity and I continued with the menial job of moving boxes around. Then the light started flickering, and it just kept getting better. It's very cool how you gave every piece of the stage of the game a part to play in the story as a whole, each adding a little gimmick to the next level that kept it interesting, engaging, en kept me wanting to know what would happen next. I guess the ending is a bit random, but I think it's also very well done. I would say this is almost more an art piece than it is game (of course it can be both, but it's always a spectrum IMO). Especially the way the screen stays black, not allowing you to reset the game, really fits the ending of the game very very well. Third, I liked the way you explained the controls in the beginning. Games are always form a dialogue between the game and the player, and by making the instructions interactive you start that dialogue as early as possible. I liked that! I also might steal that if you don't mind, hehe. Very nice!

Crates by Solrun 2018-08-31T06:39:51Z

TOROID by Yetman 2018-08-30T13:48:20Z

Very interesting idea! The 3d mode was almost impossible to control but I really liked the idea of flying somewhere and then briefly dipping into the 3d dimension to jump over an edge of something, kind of like paper mario. I also liked the visual style and color palette that you used, it makes a game so much more pleasant to look at. The 2d controls were also wonky but that is precisely what made it fun to fly around in 2D!

ClapBang by arron-fowler 2018-08-21T11:10:07Z

It felt like a fun game! It took me a while to get the hang of it and I got grumpy since the yellow mech managed to snipe me every single time. But I managed to get a good weapon a few times and then it becomes really fun! The way you pace your robot can really decide winning or losing. The visuals where nice and fit the game together with the sound, but they were also a bit chaotic and unclear (altough that was also what attracted me to your screenshot in the first place, so there's that).

Fuoco and Tenebra by Optimans 2018-08-21T11:46:22Z

Very good game with very striking mood! I liked the graphics and the fire effects. The game mechanic was a bit monotonous but fun for a while. When I started clustering fires because I'm incapable the game started lagging a bit, so next time maybe spend a few minutes on optimizing/finetuning those effects.

1066; The Viking Conquest of England by prv 2018-08-21T11:54:51Z

Fun game! I like the tower-defensy aspect with the added bonus of being in the action yourself too! Not sure how it resonates with the theme though. Also it seemed that the further I got into the game either my swordsmen got fewer and fewer, or they started merging into 1 since there was no collision between them. Anyway, I liked the shop aspect of it and the fact that there were many upgrades. The sounds altough minimal fit the look and feel of the game.

The Curse by jiukka 2018-08-21T11:21:59Z

Simple but good! The art style and animation was nice and consistent and fit the game together with the sound. I liked how the curse was truly on the right side of the boy (you guys didn't just mirror the sprite). The mechanic was simple and the puzzles were pretty much trivial, but I still was interested for the entirety of the game. Finding the third relic was actually somewhat of a challenge compared to the first two (since it required you to do something new), that was very nice. Only downside is that sidescrolling the world slowed down the fps or something which made it a bit more boring to walk the longer distances. Also kudos for actually putting a help screen in the game that concisely explained how the game works. Those little details go a long way. Lastly, it's fine if you want to support q and d for walking, but please also support the arrow keys (and h and l for us vimmers while you're at it). I have an EU keyboard and q and d are just strange for me.

Clutter Dungeon by kodran 2018-08-28T11:02:10Z

I liked it! The visuals were cool and consistent and the sounds weren't too far off of the visual style. Also nice that you explain how to make your own maps. Didn't use it but it's always nice if people want to tinker. I also really liked how you could cut off whole portions of the map, that made it feel very real to me. What I didn't like was that once you figure the game out it gets very easy: just dump all the enemies behind you and keep walking. The game would be better executed if there was a mechanic that sometimes forced you to put a knight in a bad place, e.g. in front of you or on route. Or maybe the game would pick the place, and you get to pick the drop or something. Anyway, nice game!

Requiem for the Postman by Lumos 2018-08-30T13:18:40Z

Great game for only 10 hours of work! Very interesting gameplay, develops nicely, nice pacing, enough new stuff every few minutes to keep your attention, and also quite funny. I liked how it was actually kind of annoying to rotate the envelopes, which made it funny somehow! Also the boss is a total stupid, hehe. I like the aesthetic as well! Made me think of "papers please" very much. Only downside I could think of is that the sound effects become a bit monotonous after a while.

Eggstra Space by thegreentofu 2018-08-28T11:20:50Z

Technical comment: the initial window was too wide for my screen size (1920x1018). If you really want to started windowed pick something that's sure to work, i.e. 1024x768 or 800x600. Luckily full-screen fixed it for me. I liked the start of the game, it was funny! The platformer element was very interesting however it wasn't that well implemented, so I often got stuck while platforming. The puzzles started out straightforward but got me curious enough to continue playing. However, at level 3 (the one with the big button on the ceiling) I stopped because the getting stuck constantly irritated me a bit too much. However all in all I liked the simple audio and visual style and I think you made a nice game!

S.P.A.C.E., inc. by Team-on 2018-08-30T13:52:54Z

Classic idea, interesting execution! The main character was kind of hard to see but once you got used to it the gameplay is very challenging! I think the bounds of all the objects were very tight, as well as the time for jumps and rolls, so you really had to be careful to press the buttons at the right time. Also, I like your take on the theme, it's very similar to mine ;) Would've really liked a full screen or bigger sized mode, such a tiny screen was a bit hard to play in.

Running Out of Space! by ArtemFTW 2018-08-30T13:58:15Z

Cool game idea! Could have used a bit more juice, i.e. different pitch of sound when you pick up garbage, or a screen shake. The sound and music fit the 8bit graphics style very well, I liked that. Also very good to have a simple but effective menu. I only noticed very late that the score increases very very slowly, is there a reason for that? Or maybe to encourage you to drink more potions? Hmmm, interesting.

Shrinking Universe by Renier 2018-08-28T11:12:43Z

I like this game a lot! Making an innovative arcade-y game is hard but IMO you pulled it off. The controls for asteroids were a but clunky (clicking twice for something that you sometimes want to use as rapid fire is a bit too much), but besides that it played very well. The background music was also very space-y and the sound effects in general fit the visual style. Would've been even more interesting of there was a bit of a storyline or stages (the universe can't shrink forever! Or can it?).

EDIT: Think I posted this as a comment. Oops.

Petrocket LD42 Running out of space by petrocket 2018-08-28T11:07:29Z

Nice game! I liked the visuals and the gameplay. it was fun to discover that the lights give you some sort of speed boost, because first I though "cool!" and then I though "oh shit now it's even harder". Not sure what the shooting did but it was implemented in an interesting manner, I could certainly envision some interesting gameplay with that mechanic. After the first segment it got really hard though. But kudos! It plays very well for such a classic game.

Space Farmer by TalesOfPixelia 2018-08-21T10:45:17Z

Look and feel was good, and the music fit the atmosphere of the game. Was a bit confused at first but after two or three reads through the rules I got it. Didn't really get how the water usage was related to planting, but at some point I ran into a planet where I could stock up on food (one plant seemed to do really well), and I just raced through the last 4 planets without planting anything. The mechanic can be interesting but needs some more balancing I think. One thing I found interesting was that the well-being of your people depended on how fast you played the game. I think this is pretty unusual for these types of games, so this is definitly an interesting design decision.

Plag by OiledOwl 2018-08-30T13:41:27Z

Pretty game! The darkness crawling effect was very nice. I thought it also was a bit clunky to play though, which made the game's objective feel a bit artificially hard. Good job on the intro and the nice finish with a functioning menu with an about section, tiny details are important!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Gettn' Diggy Wit It by Archimagus 2021-04-27T18:07:56Z

Fun game! I like the polishing in the animations, the art style in the entire game feels pretty consistent and that makes it fun to play. I guess the hearts mean you receive money? I was a bit sad that sometimes I dug under things and I couldn't click on them to collect, or jump, which felt a bit mean. I was also playing it on a laptop so the clicking mechanic didn't really work for me (pressing keys disables the keypad partially), so it would've been nice to have "space" or some other key dig in the current looking direction or something, but I was able to make it work and play for a bit. I also liked the map mechanic, only did the first two sites partially but makes me feel like there's a lot that I missed! And also being able to walk through the hall and look at your progress is very cool!

Sewage Surfer by fachscahfttf 2021-04-27T19:00:03Z

I couldn't type more than three letters! Good thing my name is so short haha.

Very cool game! Love the theme. I think twice it happened to me that I ran into two half-grates where one grate covered the left side of the pipe, and the other the right side, but maybe there's a special trick to passing those. Controls are typical for a turd, which I like. Jump seems a bit overpowered but I guess hitting a grate because you jumped to early or too late is very much un-fun, so a powerful jump is probably best. Also like the music a lot, nice drumlines! Also felt like the pipe was heading down constantly, which made it feel very fast. Good job!

Raid' Simulator by alpacalypse 2021-04-27T19:06:01Z

Interesting idea. Would've been cool to be able to have other interactions with other players as well, or maybe do some healing. Controls worked well and the art looks nice, if both limited. Audio scared me a bit at first but worked fine afterwards haha. Would be cool to play a more complete version of this game!

Nice game feel and juicyness!

Space Grappler by Duvey 2021-04-27T17:52:35Z

Cool mechanic, don't think I've seen this before. Took a while getting used to. Can feel a bit unfair at times but when you get used to it it feels fun to steer, and even better when you miss an asteroid by an inch at least I felt really cool. Music gets a bit repetitive but it's okay. Controls are nice and snappy and gameplay smooth. Felt like sometimes the beams passed an asteroid which it didn't grab, even though I expected it, but it didn't happen too often.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

HellScape by Cassio Eduardo 2018-04-24T16:19:12Z

That's an amazing amount of content for 3 days of work, good job! Absolutely love the aesthetic, makes me think of Doom, the monsters as well. Unfortunately I died pretty quickly every time but I got to see a few parts of the map, they all looked very coherent and like I actually was teleported into some entirely different world. Very cool! Controls were also pretty smooth (once I lowered the quality a bit). I especially like the pixelization layer/shader over the screen. Only downside was that it seemed pretty hard to get new weapons and the game wasn't very forgiving. Nice entry!

AsteroidSweeper xTreme by Ananace 2018-04-24T15:25:35Z

Kudos for using SFML!

Interesting take to literally combine two games. I like them both, however playing them together certainly causes some friction... Very interesting! Implementation looks solid and is probably very efficient.

Could've maybe used some simple sound effects, or an extra button for flagging the mines. Then in asteroids both keys would just fire.

This is the smallest executable I have seen up until now, most games are 10+ mb these days but yours is just 1.20 mb!

Sandwich with Pigeon Meat by rodancheg 2018-04-24T10:44:36Z

Very fun game! I thought it was very hard to actually play the game, get powerups, and also use them, but it didn't make it any less fun :) Some questions were easy and some were hard so I guess that balance was great! The music was also great and fit the visuals of the game. Only thing I didn't really understand is why pigeons would be eating sandwhiches with meat, but oh well :D Also it wasn't really clear to me what the present boxes did.

Our Hero - A intriguing look at the life of an old hero by stormburpee 2018-04-23T15:57:43Z

Very good entry! It was a bit buggy at times and the damage mechanics are ruthless (i.e. it is hard to hit enemies without getting damaged). Also the health items were kind of underpowered. However I thought the look and feel of the game was great, the sound track fit the game very well. Also the intro while a bit lengthy was also very thorough and polished! One downside I noticed was that the map seems very big and there aren't really any pointers about where you should go (besides the dialogs, but they disappear after a while. maybe too quickly too). I got lost walking in circles easily. Maybe next time put some big arrows here and there for bad players like me :)

Bugs I noticed: Escape exits fullscreen before exiting the inventory. Why didn't you just use E to toggle the inventory? Sometimes I had a hard time clicking items in the bottom row, even though the mouse pointer was in the center it still didn't select the square. I didn't die at 0 health (not that that was a bad thing, it allowed me to explore the map some more). I was able to walk through walls at the bottom of the map (I think it was the bototm at least)

Conquer a chef's heart by JanWe 2018-04-23T19:54:16Z

Two quick tips which would probably make it *even better* than it already is:

- Full screen mode! - Text skipping manually - Descriptions of critters and towers (even though I am too stupid to just remember it inbetween rounds) - Maybe less repetitive music

Besides that, I thouroughly enjoyed playing the game for about 25 minutes (probably also because dialogs were sometimes a bit slow). I liked the different tower types and I liked how the battlefield slowly got littered wiht dead vegetables :p Dialogs were fun to read too! The look and feel of the game was very coherent, good, and cute! The only downsides to this game is that it could use even more towers, vegetables, and maps, but mechanic-wise this game is very complete and robust!

I can also proudly mention that I made it to the end! Very good job!

BEAT KILLER by Dragojt 2018-04-24T14:37:29Z

Side note: executable from itch.io doesn't work according to my win10. Gdrive does

Very interesting combination, kind of like crypt of the necrodancer but side scrolling and real time :) I liked the artwork and sound, simple, to the point, and coherent. There could have been more variety with the enemies/map but the basic game was solid. The rhythm arrows seemed to be pretty accurate with the beat as well so good job!

Watcher's Steps by snapman-gt 2018-04-24T10:22:45Z

This game makes me feel conflicted. The ambience is great; the storyline is intriguing and I like the general weird/unknownness of the setting. The voice acting, sound, and look and feel also fit very neatly together. However, the game is not very playable. You have to walk very long distances and even then sometimes when you keep looking at your feet you fall randomly. Also when those turrets turn up it becomes even harder, especially since there's not a run button (or I missed it, possibly).

I really want to like this game because it's so intriguing and mysterious, but on the other hand I also think that a mechanic that basically forces you to look at the floor all the time is not very much fun. Maybe if there had been a few spots with rocks/puddles of water where you had to be careful, or that you only had to be careful if you ran really fast? At least then it could be sort of a choice to take the risk. Now I kind of felt like I was randomly punished, which is a shame because I really wanted to know how the story ended and what is on top of the tower!

Next time if you make the game a bit more approachable I think you'll have a very, very solid game!

Watcher's Steps by snapman-gt 2018-04-24T10:48:59Z

@snapman-gt If you explain them like that it sounds very logical and I guess I could properly finish the game, but that wouldn't change the speed at which I would play the game (which is really slow currently). I want to emphasize that I **really** liked the game a lot more than I do most other games (propably also because I'm a sucker for walking sims), but the mechanic as it is now is kind of anti-fun which is not great for the overall experience.

Watcher's Steps by snapman-gt 2018-04-24T11:04:49Z

@snapman-gt Well in that regard you definitely succeeded :-) Yeah it kinda does I guess, sometimes in good ways in sometimes in less good ways.

Rythmer by TheWGBbroz 2018-04-23T15:47:05Z

The music is nice, the controls are acceptable (f is a little close to A/D though). I had a hard time to figure out what qualifies as a beat and what didn't, and I also for the life of me couldn't kill any enemies (even if I didn't take damage from the beat somehow my bullets never killed an enemy). All in all a nice idea and the basic stuff is done well (basic controls and graphics), but the finer bits could use some more work.

Version 0.80s by Vovin 2018-04-24T16:28:11Z

Don't forget to turn off networking if you don't need it. The aesthetic is very nice, love all the bright colors and straight lines! The turn based mechanic was a bit odd, but once you get the hang of it it was logical. Didn't make it past the third level though, the row of 10+ robots was a bit much for me and I got a bit impatient. Very nice looking and well playing game!

Clicky Cards by Connor McGrory 2018-04-23T18:55:31Z

Some technical tips: - Try to limit your fps to 60 per second. More really is unnecessary (30 would also work for this game) and just makes my laptop fly away :p if you just put a Thread.sleep in there somewhere it should already improve the situation. - Tutorial with pictures is really necessary for people who never play card games/rts's. or maybe putting a quick key/scene description in the pause screen? after I thought really hard for a minute I got it tho hehe - good stab at making your own music. got a bit annoying after a while unfortunately - my nervous newt was attacking and empty spot and then the game froze. I was clicking a lot, maybe that was it? - again when a corrupted blue slime jay attacked me and I switched to the card game screen I saw it was charging but then I also noticed that the game froze. I was just beginning to understand the mechanics :( It still responds to the close button so it seems like your event loop is still working...? I'm on ubuntu, maybe that matters - Tried one more time. When it freezes nothing prints to the terminal either. what does happen is that first the sound stops. then I can still do stuff in the top-down screen, but as soon as I switch to the card game it freezes. dunno if that helps

Some thoughts on the game: At first it seemed really confusing but as I started to understand the game I liked it more. I think it's interesting how the only feedback from the card game was the sound which meant you had to keep close track of managing both situations which was a nice combination. the art was really simple but fit the game and as a whole it was pretty coherent. unfortunately I didn't get to play it very long each time because it froze within a minute or so (which is sad because I actually enjoyed the combination a lot!) maybe next time try to make it a bit more robust technical wise and you'll have a really solid game!

BatBall: The Debut by OhFiddleDiddle 2018-04-24T15:18:58Z

Love this narrative! Also love the visual style and the accents! It also really great how there run multiple storylines through this short game, very good :) Also did you get the idea from tommyball? Even your voice is similar to the voices of those guys from the unmade podcast!

Literally the only tip I have: voice skipping would've been nice. For the rest, this game is just perfect. A+!

Lazors by tthe 2018-04-24T08:33:31Z

Very solid game! The laser mechanics are implemented quite nicely, didn't have a single problem with them. The minions move around naturally and even have some nice tactics to avoid the obvious way to kill them (spinning around) which is ingenious. The music also fits the atmosphere quite well and doesn't get too irritating, good job. One thing I would've added is maybe fixed points where the critters can enter the game (now they sometimes spawn behind you randomly) or that they maybe crawl over the walls or something. ALso It would've been really cool if you could move the mirrors yourself :) very nice game!

The Freedom Bus Tycoon Empire by yatan 2018-04-24T14:06:20Z

I didn't really understand the game. The menu was nice and simple and the help menus were clear as well, but when I entered the game the blue car would always be immediately destroyed by a red one. I could also somehow control both red and blue cars, which was confusing. I failed to grasp the purpose of the game so I didn't really enjoy it that much. However the technically speaking the game responded accurately to clicks and it looked fairly polished graphics wise.

ACCIDENTAL EXISTENTIAL by slovnoslomo 2018-04-24T10:33:50Z

I liked the sybmolism in this game! Especially the second story was very accurate. I thought they were all really dark, though. Hope the author is doing well mentally! Overall, short and to the point, with nice aesthetics, graphics and sound!

Stealth Trucking by Crabman 2018-04-24T16:45:16Z

Nice entry! The ambient works very well, I really felt the need to be stealthy. I agree with the guy above me though, it is pretty unforgiving. It seemed almost impossible to get this right on your first playthrough. However if you know whats going to happen it's fun to figure out how to drive around it.

Maybe a nice addition would've been turning off the engine as well (making enemies aware of sound). Another idea would be maybe night vision that you could only use for a few second, i.e. needs time to recharge, or would blind you when headlights came into sight. I managed to play most of the game without the headlights as well, maybe something cna be done with that as well.

The steering mechanics were very solid and the music fit the game as well!

Deep Space by SG Alin 2018-04-23T18:35:27Z

Basic but good game. Music and sound fit the atmosphere, controls were solid. I like how the controls mimicked the floaty feeling of a spaceship (or was this accidental ;)?).

The game is very unforgiving though. Even having multiple lives (like 3 or 5) would've greatly increased the games longevity, as even one hit killed me which meant after dying within 5 seconds for 10 times I didn't have much patience left for this game.

The game had a coherent look-and-feel and a simple and clear start screen is always a pleasure to see. The powerups weren't very original but properly implemented and synergised well with the rest of the game.

TD Racing by AllesKapaul 2018-04-23T19:11:03Z

Very nice entry! The web player worked fine for me. However controlling the car was enormously difficult. I really liked the idea tho. I also could see how the terrain would play a very important role since it kind of allows you to "hide" from the towers while you are speeding by. The game didn't look too bad and was also coherent throughout the game. Nice try at making your own music, a bit repetitive but didn't really get irritating which is really good. The camera angle relative to the car was pretty weird (the car was in the bottom right corner?), not sure if that makes the racing easier, I would've prefferd a regular in-car or directly behind car angle.

Where's Waldy by Dartictheunic 2018-04-24T14:14:29Z

I thought this was a very interesting game to play! The controls are kind of weird and there are things happening everywhere so it's total chaos, but after getting used to it for a bit it's a very nice and unique way to play a where's-waldo kind-of game. I thought it was really hard to properly defend against the paparazzi but I imagine that's exactly what you guys tried to achieve. I also like the way the sound effects make the whole thing more confusing!

Alchemy by Enalye 2018-04-24T15:31:30Z

Nice idea! As you said, it's not very playable, but I threw a bunch of potions at myself. The game looks pretty good for a demo, the visual style is nice. One tip I can give you is before you upload the game to LD run a release build or remove the flag that adds the terminal. It's not a problem but it looks more polished if it's not there. One bug I ran into is that sometimes my flask froze, as in it didn't fill up with new potion whatever I did. So all in all, for a tech demo this looks and plays pretty good!

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-04-24T09:02:29Z

Great game! I stopped at the arithmetic part as it was getting tedious and there are other games as well, but loved it! Only thing I was missing were comments and the fact that for most levels exhaustive testing is possible, i.e. in the left/right level you only have to test two inputs for an answer to be correct, and now it just bruteforced it 4 or 5 times. Very nice game!

STEW'M by Bradalli 2018-04-24T16:35:14Z

Good and simple game. Walking, shooting, and picking up mechanics have been well implemented (except maybe the head bobbing was a bit much). The visual look and feel of the game was coherent, the style of the pot and the walls fit the style of the meat and walking mannequins. Only the bullets were maybe a bit boring. I did like that they were flying slowly though, it meant you had to take care when aiming. Maybe next time a bit more depth can be achieved by making weapons upgradable or being able to add turrets of some sort, or different kinds of enemies/more intelligence.

Overwhelming by Ziovoxxer 2018-04-23T19:39:09Z

Don't use rar. Windows supports zip natively and I think (hope?) some linuxes do as well, so that should be the default go-to imho. However I downloaded 7zip especially for you because your game looked interesting :D

And I was not disappointed! Looking around looked very smooth, however walking around could use some help, it felt less smooth. It didn't really impact my ability to jump from place to place though.

First I thought the game mechanic was going to be a bit underwhelming but then when I figured out you had to escape from the box it turned out to be really engaging! By the fourth level I got bored because it gets a bit boring but the mechanic was really well executed.

I also think ten bullets is not that much btw.

Another downside I ran into was that sometimes you just sit around waiting for a block to turn up nearby. I guess that's hard to tune but having to wait is really a showstopper.

Something that I did like a lot was the way the yellow beams indicated where and in how long a block was going to land! It was really fun to look around searching for blocks without a beam while also taking into account the block you're standing on :)

The music was pretty good, the main menu music as well as the game intro music was almost of the quality that I would actually listen to it (not sure if you made it yourself but kudos anyway).

One last downside is that I thought the main menu and game didn't really have the same look and feel, the main menu felt kind of artsy while the main game had more of a sci-fi feel.

A Kid's Nightmare by N.O.X 2018-04-24T14:32:17Z

Well you definitely managed to nail the scary part! I guess I don't have nerves of steel but usually I can handle myself in scary games, but this game definitely made my eyes twitch! The impossibility of navigating through the room without walking into the scary robot or witch was nerve wrecking. Only downsides I ran into was that it was sometimes really impossible to walk around properly more than was interesting (altough for some part I expect that to be on purpose), and sometimes it was really hard to pick up a toy, or it wasn't clear if it could be picked up. Very scary entry!

DUCK! - LD41 Jam Game by WarticWare 2018-04-24T15:50:58Z

Great entry! Wayyy too hard for me but I can see someone who's into this genre really enjoying this! I liked the way chaos was made in the game (screenshake, bullets everywhere, being able to throw away your weapon). However the game was also very unforgiving, the enemy bullets were very fast so sometimes I just walked away and got instantly hit by enemy bullets (maybe there's a pattern but I haven't seen it)

Cold Stars. Empty Voxels. by Alexander Danilovsky 2018-04-23T19:26:08Z

Overall the game was pretty good! Real gameplay was missing but the controls were really interesting, a bit hard to grasp but once I figured out they were just shorthands for certain directions I got a lot better at controlling the spaceship. I also liked your intro text, meteor showers sets the scenery very well indeed :)

Also, I think it's very good you just put up all the controls on the main screen. It's not pretty but it gets the job done quite well and is definitely better than nothing!

MazeInvaders by Jenonator 2018-04-24T15:03:21Z

Why did it want network access? You should probably turn that off to not scare off users.

Collision with coins is undesirable, monsters got stuck behind them a lot and they blocked bullets as well. Usually what you need is called a "trigger" or something along those lines, UE4/Unity both have them iirc.

Cost of towers was unclear but after the first two I knew it was 10 :p

Overall I really like the idea of the game (makes me think of the book maze runner!) however the low-powered ness of the weapon made it so that you almost entirely depended on the towers. I liked the look and feel of the game, walking around and looking around was very smooth. Grpahics were simple but to-the-poin. If I could also upgrade my own weapon this game would've been even better :-)

Ugh (Ludum Dare 41) by dangerbackwards 2018-04-23T19:20:04Z

When I saw the easthetic I immediately moved to my windows box for this game and I was not disappointed! The game looks great and has a very nice art style in general. The music is good and the sounds are funny, as are the (albeit simple) animations. I also liked the mechanic of how the blocks blocked your shots. I also liked how the environments were very varied, A+ for effort! Gameplay could be a tad more interesting though, I got by most of the time by just bashing left and right mouse button (but maybe that was your point? :p)

Date Night by Darby Costello 2018-04-24T11:02:09Z

Very nice game! I had a lot of fun figuring what was needed to pass the game :) I hope there is only one date because I couldn't figure out how to pass the first one without dying. The look and feel and music is amazing, and also all the flavortexts and dialogue made me laugh out loud! :D The only thing I missed was dialog skipping so replaying was less tiresome. Very good game!!

The game looks good and the controls were also very intuitive. The music fit the game and it had a coherent look and feel. I just couldn't for the life of me figure out how to solve even the first puzzle! I guess each food had a place to go but I couldn't even get the egg in the boiling water, it just kept hopping against it. Or did the egg go in the pan with butter? I guess the confusion stems from the multiple ways to prepare an egg :P I liked the idea though, very well executed but way too hard for me! Also the way the characters hopped around was funny :)

The executable says "failed to load mono". Haven't had any trouble with any other unity games during this LD. Maybe try rebuilding?

Barry Has a Secret (horror, meal hiding simulation) by jamfella 2018-04-24T15:43:57Z

Very funny game! Makes me think if the stanley parable but more violent somehow :) love the weird camera perspctive and the goofy physics. After day 3 it got kind of boring (I just kept piling limbs in the... washing machine?), not sure if there are any other approaches, maybe blocking the walking path? Anyhow I liked it a lot, the room was also very realistic looking and the animations were spot-on and lifelike as well (especially barry, hehe).

Fun but short game! The mechanic is simple but plays well. The platformer mechanic could be better implemented (I got stuck on a platform a couple of times) but does not prohibit enjoying the game. The ending screen was fun too. I also liked the music, very simple but not irritating and fit the game!
