You only get one chance to save the world so don't screw it up by Dir3kt 2013-12-17T21:24:00
I like how this game actually gives me one chance. Goodjob :P

I like how this game actually gives me one chance. Goodjob :P
Awesome game, great graphics, great music. If I have to add something negative it would be that is not very innovative, but I think you can live with that, right?
Awesome Art! Lots of z-fighting unfortunately. I liked how you made little puzzles based on the weapon you chose.
These games are very addictive, I shouldn't spend to much time playing this :P
I really liked the last two puzzles! Nice graphics, fun nice mood.
Nice idea!
@Jezzamon: As the tutorial (should) state: With shift you can switch between the two weapon sets. After each wave the weapons can be used again. Your weapons get strong based on the combos you make.
I'm not entirely sure about the combat system, it seems way to responsive to mistakes, mistakes that instantly kill you. But overall very awesome. Also the theme seems a little hacked into the game, but I know how brainstorm sessions go :P
Great game, especially for a one button game.
Good graphics, nice sounds, feels polished. Maybe it's a little to fast paced for me.
Idea is nice, however it doesn't really feel balanced yet. But that might be a lack of tactics.
It is a cool concept and it looks good! However, I don't particularly like this kind of game so I am probably not the best reference. The precision needed to pass some of the enemies is to harsh. But it looks very broad!
Solid, but not to much innovation. But a fun little game to play.
Cool concept, I didn't get too far however, the first jump is way to hard for a first introduction to the mechanics. I like the artstyle very much!
Really love the game, a lot of fun to play. The parallax effect is totally awesome! I also liked the physics of the ship, very deep indeed. Cool transition between the sea and the surface. You could add enemies which need to be defeated by shooting above and below sea level.
Awesome game concept. Very accurate to the real world. I love that you need to bump into bacteria to get receptors to shoot. However, it is not very clear what the losing or winning conditions are.
Cool concept, but sadly not very fun to play. I AM SORRY! However, I did like the mechanic that you need to use your pickups to advance.
Pretty good graphics for 72 hours. However the tutorial is a little over crowded.
Also nice if this was pure js + three.js. (This seems the case given the music player :D)
A very mysterious game. I love the idea of only being able to go down, and the message in the end is just glorious. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, despite the art :P Maybe not the most technically impressive one so far, but story wise it is awesome! My first 5 rank overall.
I tried to get off the couch but it didn't work. Very meta. But I like the idea of making something text based very very cool. However, a list of possible commands in the "help" command would be nice. Try to 'modernise' it at least a tiny bit.
Cool idea, however the mood setup in the first part of the game is not really reflected in the combat of the game. I do however like the way you handled the mechanics of combat. Only the continue function was not really explained.
File was deleted form the server :(
A little buggy (probably fixed in the post-compo version?)
I would love to play your game man, love the idea of a bunker hider and would have loved to see what your story was about. Send me a message for sure if you fixed the executable.
Love the game, it reminds me of the old rogues on DOS. I like the idea of money but it has no significance but to be there as a score meter. The combat is a bit unpredictable but a nice edition. Would love to have had some minimalistic music and sfx just to increase the mood. Also like the water idea!
Good use of the theme, however, it is a somewhat simple game. What I do find awesome is that you used webGL! And a very good effort if this is you first try! Keep it up!
You could spend some more time on making a few interesting art assets instead of a lot that do not blend really well into the rest of the world.
The grappling hooks made the game more interesting from other similar games.
This was random....
Strange game and I probably don't get the satire part of the game. But the fist of truth is a cool concept. However, you could improve the concept by facing the players actions by using its fist all the time.
The visual style is cool, however, my WASD doesn't work for some reason. I can't walk.
Hey thanks for pointing out Webplayer problem, it would be awesome if you could check back :D.
P.S. Loved your game :D
It is a nice looking and sounding game, that's for sure. However I am not really digging the sound effects. The story is well written and the characters are believable. I liked the suggestion in the story for you to fill in the gaps, you could have pressed this much further I feel. As of the gameplay part, it is not very much there. It's more book then game I'm afraid.
Found this because of your blog post. Nice!
Nice feeling of the game. I also like the difficulty level. :D Also the take on the theme is nice, in the way you use it for the difficulty of the obstacles.
P.S. Could you check back on our game with the debug version (www.randomabductions.com/space-trader)? It would be awesome if you could help us getting it to work on extra devices.
Pff, I'm not good enough at multitasking for this. Great idea, nice graphics :)
It's a funny mechanic to swing your sword, but a controller is definitely required to enjoy the game at least a little bit. The amount of enemies are cool and the levels are fun to walk trough, but I wished more time was spend on actual game mechanics and refining the sword mechanic then extras. Also, some of the randomly generated seeds are just impossible since 10 guys are standing next to you. And, no, this is not the fault of RNJesus.
Something went wrong I see. That often happens when I'm tired. Should be up now.
Sorry for the inconvenience. :(
Hi,
Thanks for (attempting to) playing our game. I have added a debug version, which drops a debug.log file next to windows.exe. It would be great if you could mail that to me siewart&randomabductions.com if you have any trouble with the game, so we can support more devices.
I added instructions to:
www.randomabductions.com/space-trader
If interested you can use ctrl + shift + alt + c for realtime messages. (Not to convenient yet i'm afraid, still a WIP project of mine.)
Oh, and please also post devices that did work :)
The tests we did with the web version did not work. Maybe after the compo (:
Nice ambient game, very stressful on the higher difficulty, peaceful on the easier grades. I loved it. The only thing is that it is sometimes too hard to control the amount of units you want to send. But I have no clue how I would have done it. The innovation on this method is very interesting. Loved the minimalistic but pleasing colors and shapes!
Given the 1.5 days its quite nice, however it does feel a little unfinished.
It looks very nice, but I don't really find the gameplay anything to write home about. The controls are good, for a mobile device, however I wished I didn't have to hold down the mouse button all the time. The music fits the theme that the game is going for. One other thing that you might want to consider is that you can't stack the shield upgrade, which seems somewhat unfair since you mostly need to risk a lot to get the second one in the first place.
Hey thanks for pointing out uploading problem, it would be awesome if you could check back :D.
P.S. Liked your game as well, nice puzzles, fun art. I must agree that the theme is not entirely visible in this one.
Very polished, nice graphics. The music did become quite repetitive (but you have music so that's good). Nice puzzles, but could use a little more different variations to it, besides the 3 buttons you have right now. (Maybe add a switchable diode or weird logic nodes.) Still it was 48 hours, so great job!
Hmm not sure what i was doing besides getting extreme XP by fighting dragons and losing it by fighting kings.
16 seconds... Simple and fun take on the theme.
To bad it wasn't finished. Still quite impressive art/music wise.
Very interesting good looking game. The gameplay is bare, which is bit sad. But the art direction is very nice to look at. I love the paper cardboard style and the vibe is very well pronounced. The game also looks fairly polished.
nice little game. I love the art style you were going with and the whole old school scanlines thing. It is very colorful. However, why did you go for geometric shapes instead of asteroids and planets? This seems to be more fitting to the vibe and theme. Music is also very well done. Very ambient.
Nice short game. Plays well and controls well. Art style is decent, but could use some work. The colors on the characters don't really fit the world. The rest of the textures are good. Good implementation of the them into the game. HTML5 version is super awesome.
Sorry, can't run the game. Instant crash. :( (windows 7 64 bit)
Good mood setting. Music, visuals and gameplay match perfectly. It is a very relaxing game. Good for the evening.
Aw, I want to try this game!! But I have no android device, would there be any chance of getting a PC port?
Pretty cool short game. To bad there is no sound as for feedback. The game does work well and the theme is apparent.
Looks interesting, but I can't get past the star and moon scene. It seems that you need to find all the stars, but the moon keeps falling. Very artsy.
Fun game, love the screen shake. However the controls are horrible. It would be better if you could walk with wasd/arrows and then face towards the mouse when attacking. Now the movement is awkward.
Once you know the rules for game of life, the game is practically too easy. If you don't know the rules, the game is pretty random.
Very novel concept, I like the mashing of genres. However it is somewhat buggy if you want to move the block the character is on. Maybe prohibit this? The music didn't really fit the theme the game was going for, but it is great that there is any at all. Maybe some sound effects would also help. Overall a good game.
Game looks like fun, however after 5 seconds of play the game just crashes. I won't vote of course. But the idea is cool. Not very innovative but seems to work fine as for the rest. Shooting arc is very handy.
Pro Tip, Run in circles around the enemies and swing that mighty sword of DOOM! Pro tip 2: Don't touch the enemies with any body part but your sword.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but i noticed too late that the items description don't fit the window. Try to play in a 16:9 ratio, that should 'fix' the problem. As of the room, you can't go back, you have to do the whole loop before you can re-enter the shop, this was a design decision.
I feel you Kim, movement is very floaty :(
@LostTrainDude, thanks that you liked the game this much! I will most probably make a new version in 2D, I think that better fits the gameplay. Let me know what you think!
Fun little game, however it seems that one ball falls faster than the other, which seems unfair. I played it multiplayer for a bit and it seemed lots of fun. However, I wouldn't play it another time later.
An interesting concept, but the execution is a bit lacking. The art looks cool and the inventory is very impressive. It is however not really clear what type of attack is effective against the fully shielded goblin(?). Since we both seem to do just 0 damage. Is this a bug? Nice Idea for the theme and a cool take on the RPG genre.
Most fun game that I have played so far. Good graphics and fun gameplay. The hit was definitely a must. But after 10 minutes of play the game becomes way to easy.
I don't know what to say. I didn't really like the game since it was very generic and felt like something made in 2 hours. Sorry. But I didn't really like it.
Definitely needs some work. Also the feedback to what you are doing is lacking. The idea doesn't really come across to me. How do I gain carma? Can I talk to people? Art style is interesting.
Fun small game. I liked the progression with the turrets and enemy speeds. The magic didn't work for me for some reason. Also, when you place a turret on a surface where you can't put it, it does remove the money. Could have used some music for in the background.
Cool new game concept. I like the idea and it is fun to play. The progression is a bit steep to keep the match growing with new fighters, but a good challenge. Art and music could use some work but the core is well thought out. AI seems also reasonable.
Graphics are very good, however there is little to no gameplay. Which is not so good.
Cool mechanic for as for the energy system. However, it is a lot of waiting for things to happen. Since you just wait in front of an enemy to regain enough energy to punch it in the face. Platforming is solid and the beer thing is quite funny. The music didn't really stick with me and came of as somewhat somber and repetitive, but good effort non the less.
Cool game to play. Graphics look quite amazing and the theme of the game really gets me into the christmas mood. This game would benefit so much from a little bit of sound and music!!! I would definitely play this on my phone if it had some way of progres. Usable items, powerups ala mario cart like boosts etc. Also, bro tip, clear the first few meters so people can test the controls and adjust to them. Sometimes there spawns a snowman right in front of you. Since you are Jam contestants, get some 'opensource' music to accompany the game.
Fun game, however it seems very random to win. After trying 5 times, I couldn't get to the other side. Is this the message? The text that displays is very cool though. One thing of improvement, maybe show the controls here or in the game? I didn't know you could move up and down until the 5th try.
Small little fun game. Love the style of the graphics and the NES vibe. It would be cool if bumping into walls would damage the ship. And the propulsion is a bit slow-ish. Good game!
Cool concept, get the whole fright night at freddies vibe here. Controls are a bit weird because of the camera angle. The battery could be a bit shorter to make the cleaning more of a challenge. The map is really a must! Also, good use of the theme!
Cool game! Very fully featured and looks quite done. Gameplay is fun and the strategy is very apparent. Also the tutorial is very nice. Theme was well implemented.
Reasonably good game. The graphics are well done and the music fits the theme. However, I don't really like the reload mechanic, I understand why, you need to give the player a reason to not shoot, but this is not the right solution for this game I feel. Also, the best (game breaking) strategy is to stay at the fire and let the elves bring the packets to you. You have no reason to pick them up yourself.
Cool idea. But how do you slay the enemy? It would be handy to see how many flairs you have, since you can only seem to fire it once? But I don't know. Art style is cool but I'd like for the camera to zoom in a bit.
Super cool concept! I love the puzzles and the effect is quite amazing to look at. Awesome gameplay. The graphics could use some work.
Simple gameplay, simple graphics and easy to understand controls. I don't really see how the theme was implemented but it is relatively fun to play. PRO tip: make a web player version, more people will play your game that way!
Very good attempt for a first ludum dare, keep up the good work. Menu works great and adds some progression. I would like to move though, adds a bit more interaction. Or let the player fire himself. But its a general problem of the genre. Artstyle is well done.
The game is a bit bland. Also, the start position is absolutely horrible as an introduction. It is way to hard to progress. The freeze mechanic is quite novel, though. But please state that you use spirits from other games. The portals didn't work for me, they didn't warp me trough the level, or are they just for spawning enemies?
Nice short game. Like the lighting but I don't quite understand why shome lights stay on and why some don't. The mechanic with the angled walls is very cool to see. But could be used with more puzzles. Music sounds nice, but the phasing is to fast for the slow type of game. Am I done after the screen fills with darkness? Great artstyle.
This game is amazing! The slow motion effect is really cool! Adds a lot of excitement. The bullets are small enough to dodge and the characters look so well done! Animations and textures are quite good. Love it!
The game looks really good, however it is very hard to distinguish the different ground types. Was hard to look for dirt in particular. And what is the win/lose condition? I wasn't able to find that yet. The game also lacks challenge.
Interesting idea, but there seems to be no strategy. We just started firing and the one who started also won. But the art looks good and the game is easy to understand and play. Cool option for more players, i like that.
Keep working on it man! See it as a great way to learn all this stuff. If you set a few date goals to finish, I am sure you'll end up with something great!
Fun little game with fast gameplay and a very well done artstyle. Looks inspired by super crate box without the shooting. Which is a good thing. Would love to be able to jump, but I understand why you would leave it out. This game would benefit from insta-death since you are going to die anyway when in a corner, why wait?
Super cool puzzle platformer. Got see hooked from the beginning. Would definitely want to see a full game from this concept with some extra mechanics. Love the art direction and the sound design. Also like the absence of music. Gives more space to think.
Fun easy to understand game. The amount of levels is very nice and the controls feel responsive. Music is a bit repetitious but thematically ok.
Interesting way to tell a story, which is very well portrayed and written. I could imagine playing a fully fledged game of this with a little more polish. The pixel art is cool but a bit oversaturated and too much contrast for the story. The changing seasons is a cool concept and the theme was very well implemented.
Great experience. Lots of stuff to do, only the launch was a bit tricky to do at first. Played it almost 3 times in a row, loved it so much. I really got sucked into the experience. Great art, great sound effects. Lovely absence of music. If you had time to improve some things, make all the gauges and levers inside the cockpit, the menus pull you out of the immersion.
