LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Survive the doodle! by DigitalQR 2014-12-08T13:33:00

Addictive little game! Good fun and pretty imaginitive :D

I avoided the spikes and boulders, naturally, however did learn the hard wa that the stars were NOT meant for collecting!

Very good little game :)

Pinball Wizardry by dsilvers 2014-12-08T19:38:00

Music is pretty epic lol! Especially when under that electrified effect :D

Gameplay is great fun and graphics aren't bad either. Good entry!

There are a few bugs though, which is a shame. The ball seems to pass through the flippers sometimes, at the hinges, and there's nothing you can do to stop yourself from losing a ball :( Downer when you're on a roll! But, still a great little game :D

Well done!

StarFighter by MegaMasterX 2014-12-08T20:30:00

Decent game, with great voice acting :D

That, with the cartoony feel of the... *ahem* "Rock-it..." reminded me of my son playing with his toys lol.

Very easy, but I guess that's no big deal. Making the Spawner move through space would have been a simple way to make it a little more challenging, perhaps?

Rated well :)

Suzy v Dark Lord by Jonapulse 2014-12-08T20:18:00

Definately a strong entry :D Was good fun!

I kept getting a bit stuck on the scenery, and there doesn't appear to be a "reset" option after death? Those two things were a little frustrating, but I think I've rated this higher than virtually every game I've played so far, so well done for that :D

Zombies Vs Army by AntonyBaasan 2014-12-08T20:06:00

Web link works now.

I don't see how this fits the theme tbh; not at any point is the whole game one on screen. Minimap can't count, surely...

Graphics are great - I guess you produced the (great looking) UI, but what about the models? They've got to be stock?

This Is How It Comes About by DesignerNap 2014-12-08T13:07:00

Certainly interesting, I played it right through and enjoyed it.

Took me a while to figure out how to control the plane though, if I'm honest :P

SFX and Atmosphere were nice too :)

Galaxia by greysphere 2014-12-08T17:54:00

*ahem* current progress....:

http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll44/Critical-/lolthatsscience_zps91edfa61.png

I guess i'd better give you 5 stars, lol!!

Frosty Ninja by belva1234 2014-12-08T14:49:00

Yeah, had a bit of fun with that xD How could I not when playing a game about a swag frosty ninja??

Only issue I had with it is that I wall rode up the right of the screen, and jumped out of the game!

Hippie Convention Inspection by Dr_V 2014-12-09T11:15:00

A little slow to play, but a great concept. Nice to see you've both reinterpreted the theme AND managed to stick to the actual wording of "entire game ON one screen" as well.

Dark Rabbit by Lo-X 2014-12-08T10:43:00

Really good entry! Some quick feedback - A reset button would have been nice, to respawn after dying. If there is one, I missed it - my fault. Carrot gun also seems to reload a little slowly, though I guess that just takes getting used too :)

Really nice game overall - enjoyed the look/feel of it and the audio :D Plus its always nice to see games that were programmed from scratch!

Broken Turrets by Biliogadafr 2014-12-08T20:45:00

Downloaded Win_64 version, and got an error message on launch:

The program can't start because MSVCR120.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

=(

CHANGE - A homeless roguelike survival simulator by DanHayesGamer 2014-12-08T12:39:00

Played for quite a long time actually. It really gets you...

I didn't get the dog :(
I got mugged :(

Baldaquin V by Marcellus 2014-12-08T10:58:00

Victory! :D Nice entry, took a few moments to get used to, and just as I thought I was getting the hang of it, I get overrun by tanks! Pushed back and won though! Good game.

One Screen Many Jumps by Natura-Time 2014-12-08T20:40:00

Really enjoyed it! :D

The "Add Difficulty" thing made for a somewhat masochistic experience at times, but was a particularly interesting mechanic.

Was good fun, and I've rated it well :)

Meaty Tears by Zwergesel 2014-12-08T12:21:00

Tricky! Very tricky lol :)

Good game, good fun, great music :)

Bit Raiders (multiplayer) by Hexicube 2014-12-08T14:00:00

Really good fun! Pity about the crashing. I entered several times to try and see what was causing it,but its definately related to the projectiles:

Error is actually caused by an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds exception :

Hope that helps you out mate, game is pretty good fun otherwise :) Gratz on all the multiplayer stuff!

Will watch and rate if you manage to get this sorted out! Or leave a comment on my page when its fixed that I'll spot to get me to head over here :)

Bit Raiders (multiplayer) by Hexicube 2014-12-08T14:35:00

Well done mate. Tons of fun :D Glad to see its all fixed up! Thanks for leaving the comment - I can rate now :)

Bit Raiders (multiplayer) by Hexicube 2014-12-08T14:56:00

Oh the one when we were stood testing the collision on the walls? I was toooo tempted lol! xD

My favorite shot was the double thrust upwards, over the platform and boom! downwards headshot! Was about the only time I hit you though I think :P

Dungeon Cards by DudleySoft 2014-12-08T11:47:00

Great concept; really unique idea!

Well executed too, which is very cool :)

Madness Race by paps 2014-12-08T11:07:00

I have to admit I found it really hard to control, because the steering had so much acceleration attached to it. Also, I first thought that the A key would "move right" instead of "rotate right" - after a second sitting on the start rotating, then another rotating back it was impossible to catch up.

I do however like the kind of "Mario Kart" style of power-ups and nitros - they're a pretty cool addition :)

Ride A Novel by Eno Khaon 2014-12-08T11:15:00

Wasn't sure what was going on tbh, or how to have any effect on the jump itself... I would only get to the word "was" and the ride just began. Did I miss something? (Very possible!)

Death in front by mahham 2014-12-08T19:30:00

Obeys the theme for the event, which is a plus, and I marked you up on humour for the wooden spoon idea! That was amusing :)

EXACTLY the weapon I would choose in a zombie apo...cal... ...No, actually, it really isn't, lol!

SpeedRPG by Random Abductions 2014-12-08T11:56:00

Nice little game ^_^; Well done!

Boobs Of War by Monochrome Bears 2014-12-08T11:38:00

===========================
Now runs fine on Windows 7.
===========================

I laughed, lol. Very funny.

Behind the humourous exterior though is a pretty nice little shooter - was genuinely good fun to play. Best game I've played today, I think, the first game I've played that I expect to retain and play for fun from time to time :D Good effort!

Any plans to continue on this?

Late Icedodger by Doubstract 2014-12-08T19:24:00

Quite enjoyed this one :) I don't really think its much to do with the theme though - any game could finish with a collage of screenshots "on one screen". That or I've missed the point, but still...

On the plus side though, graphics were great, sounds were well balanced and it was fun to play.

Good game :)

Last Rooftop Hero by Phoenix849 2014-12-08T14:26:00

Good fun! assets are really good, well done!

Like everyone else, I tested to see how long I could get away with not doing anything: 57.75 seconds was the result. First try with jumping? 8 Seconds. I jumped straight off the edge accidently xD

I also agree it would have been nice to start the player off at a random location. perhaps "the centre +/- 3 tiles" or something, just to stir things up a bit?

Break The Screen by xerohuang 2014-12-09T10:58:00

Was really nice until that "power off" button bit. Such a critical mechanic and it wasn't introduced at all before it is required to win the game.

Other than that, the concept was pretty cool :) I liked the tape over the holes lol.

KEYBOARD WARS: SUPER SNOWMAN TUG-O-WAR EDITION by 5T4MP5 2014-12-08T15:06:00

I wish there was someone here I could rope into playing this lol, it looks like a lot a fun xD Still, played it for a bit to experience the keyboard mashing, and I can see this game being a great little mini/drinking game :D definately 5/5 for fun and humor! ^_^;

Muaic and graphics are good fun too :) Well made, well done!

Fizz-X by Cheetoturkey 2014-12-08T21:42:00

Played it serval times, good fun!

On my last run got to the 16th wave with full health, and then died to... something? Perhaps I got shot, but my health clicked down once and I died with +48 displayed :(

Get the fick out by elkiwydev 2014-12-08T18:09:00

Good fun :) Didn't shut down properly though, leaked and crashed the game I was playing :( I didn't mark you down for that, but might be something you want to fix :P

Ocean Crossing by andysolace 2014-12-08T12:15:00

Thanks all for comments; I've added the controls to the description, and expanded the description to explain the event generation.

@Zwergesel > You can!

Ocean Crossing by andysolace 2014-12-08T13:37:00

Hi MegaMaster, thanks for the feedback.

It compiles and runs without Errors or Warnings here - Could I ask which OS you're using and which Error was generated? I'll look into it.

Many thanks,
Andy.

Ocean Crossing by andysolace 2014-12-08T14:52:00

@Stamps

:O really like that idea! I didn't think about that - the idea was that each map would have obsticles placed about, and you would need to find the fish while avoiding the storms. But the interactivity you suggested sounds like a great addition!

Thank you :)

Ocean Crossing by andysolace 2014-12-08T18:01:00

okay :( Seems that the exception might be to do with the Java version. I wrote this using Java 8 =/ I will see if I can switch out the libraries and create a version that runs on Java 7 to replace the mac and linux versions...

Ocean Crossing by andysolace 2014-12-08T21:01:00

@ Skeeto

I think that's.... a fair statement, tbh.

I did have maps for each level that marked out the location of the events on a per-level basis, and that allowed me to group some events and scatter others a bit more strategically. The idea was if you failed a few times but learnt where the fish were, you could make some progress. The storms were always going to be random, though. Unfortuantely, I didn't finish implementing the code to read the maps into the game, and was forced to just leave the random generation in place. It was a real shame.

Thank you for the comment about the graphics :) At least I got something right!

Harpoon Raccoon by mahu 2014-12-08T14:18:00

Very good lol, music is great, artwork is great, game is very good fun :)

Infact, the only issue I had with it at all is the opponent can move off of the screen, away from the ravine, meaning you just have to wait while avoiding the harpoons until he wanders back on.

Needs multiplayer!! That would be great fun too! :D

The Unfettered Arrow by inkeystring 2014-12-09T10:11:00

Not a bad little entry overall :)

Controls, as its been said, are interesting and took a minute to get used too. Game is pretty tricky too, and in a few attempts I only managed to survive to ~80 or so.

That said, I've not quite woken up yet, so perhaps I'll come back a bit later and try to improve on it :P

Oceanite by Yazara 2014-12-08T10:24:00

Its really nice mate, well done! I know the musical loop is only seconds long, but it really adds something, and it somehow fits the underwater theme too :)

Square by onilink_ 2014-12-08T10:32:00

So I discovered i'm very bad at this game :D

Doesnt make it a bad game though! Its really well put together. Very solid entry, congratulations :)

Cobot by GameQuester 2014-12-08T14:12:00

Surprisingly difficult!

I got a little frustrated by the fact you can't turn around without moving, and some of the jumps seem punishingly precise.

That said however, its a nice little platformer with some nice little sound effects :) Well done!

One Screen Of Burgers by Searge 2014-12-08T11:27:00

"your score &xe0" lol

Fun little game :)

Only thing I'd say is reduce the number of lives!! When I tried to game over to see if there was a score count, it took as long as collecting the burgers! :D

gg, brb gonna get a burger...

Mobster Massacre by Shpuld 2014-12-08T14:43:00

I'm sorry, would love to rate because it plays quite well, but the game doesn't render charcters or entities for me either (Windows 7).

The game feels good though, the controls are tight, the sound is pretty cool and the graphics are great too. Real shame I can't get it to run properly :(

Project Candyfloss by sausagroll 2014-12-08T19:56:00

I think its impossible to fail this game, (unless you don't put down towers at all, lol), because you get enough money for 1 extra tower per level, and that extra tower is enough to handle the next wave.

Still! Its an excellent first(ish) game, so well done for that :D Pretty good overall :)

Perfect Mind by nekroadmin 2014-12-08T19:43:00

Hey there,

Any chance you could add the controls to the description, please? Nothing seems to do anything...

Would be helpful.

The Harrowing by K.Chplr 2014-12-08T13:23:00

Really want to play! I loved Touhou Youyoumu, but only the bottom half of the window appears in the browser. :(

A few moments later:
Game works on Chrome (as stated) but not IE or FF.

-------------
On to review:
-------------

Mechanically very sound game though - Was impressed :D Had to mute though after a little while. Controls are standard and responsive, and the difficulty is up where it should be, though it might be an idea to "work up" to hell-mode over the course of the first minute or so, to stop people from being killed by the first wave and quitting lmao!

Really nice. I hope this does well :)

The Harrowing by K.Chplr 2014-12-09T14:14:00

@K.Chplr - I've actually never played 8, but I still have Perfect Cherry Blossom on my desktop lol. I love the music and the visuals, and the gameplay is fiendishly addictive lol.

I've wanted to produce a game like this ever since - now I'm definately inspired to actually get on with it!

Project 327 by jn327 2014-12-08T15:18:00

Good overall, with some really nice little details (such as the asteroids moving in real time)

Really didn't think much of the UI,and the big yellow splash screens between each round though. After the first time I thought they would stop being displayed, but its not really a big deal.

Background assets were hot though, so well done on the artwork!

I do wish that gravity effected the ships too though, perhaps even only when they're moving. It would help with the players hiding from eachother, and help the game universe feel a little more consistent.

Really good overall though, well done!

Dot Dungeon by torcado 2014-12-08T21:19:00

Great fun, and really hard to complete!

So naturally, I couldn't complete it :(

Music is perfect though - suits the game so well :D Graphics are great too :D Rated very highly.

Hackception by Gemberkoekje 2014-12-08T21:55:00

Like someone else in the comments, Nothing happened when I tried to move. I ran the game, got into the tutorial, and when it said "use the arrow keys to move" ...I did and nothing happened. No idea why...
